two hair consults and the stylist did not listen to anything I said in fact she poured a very dark color on my hair that had did not resemble the color we agreed we upon. When asking why she told me she needed to cover a few gray hairs she saw and she needed to do this .. horrible experience I have been coloring my hair for over fifty years longer than the girl or stylist age I was consulting. She tells me she needed to add this color otherwise the few hairs would not be covered. Amazing never happened to me but if she felt that ways she should of asked me because my hair is very fine and I do not have much of it. When I arrived I asked to have my hair colored, Kristina said that she didn't have time but that I could do ombre with my hair, not really having a choice because I wanted to get my hair done for a wedding I said ok, in the process she must have spilled hair dye on my lap or the apron and needless to say after when the apron was removed she didn't say anything about how she ruined my dress pants. I also hated the ombre hairstyle and she ruined my hair by doing it. Then I was told she didn't have enough time to cut my hair either and she also didn't even blow dry it! I've been going here for years and it's the only place I will ever get anything waxed! I've occasionally strayed when I couldn't get an appointment or was out of town, and I've always regretted it. The pedicures here are great too! I do hate the parking though. There is a teeny lot in front that can park maybe four cars, otherwise you'll have to park along the side street. After reading some of these reviews I am really confused. In the 13 or so years I have been going to Racine I have sent over 15 friends/family members and they are all hooked. My best friend accidentally died her hair orange 2 days before her wedding and Racine fixed it. Specifically Dana. Really. Ask for Dana. You won't be sorry. She is so knowledgeable and really thoughtful about her cuts and is a color genius. Like brilliant. Honestly though, everyone is great. The owners are about as fabulous as fabulous gets and they truly care about their clientele. They provide free services to people battling cancer every Monday. I mean, come on. These girls are all a class act. The service and care you receive at Racine is unmatched. I travel 4+ hours round trip from Manhattan because there is nowhere quite as good, not even in NYC. A wonderful place all around! I used to go to one place to wax, one for nails, and one for hair. Until i moved to Islip and came to Racine's. They are great with my hair! I can't tell you how many compliments I get after my haircuts there, which is no easy feat with hair as long and thick as mine. I recently went to a different salon while I was in a rush to get a (what i thought would be a trim to rid myself of split ends from my constant hot tools abuse) on a day Racine's was closed. That was a BIG mistake on my part it ended up much shorter and so difficult to style in any acceptable non-messy-looking way. During my time visiting Racine's for over a year and that had never happened to me with them. Aside from being hair magicians, They are also great with nails my manicures are fantastic, and my pedicures with Maggie are heavenly. She is really detail oriented and my skin and cuticles are left soft and looking great. I also get waxed there with Rosie who is just a godsend. Her technique is as quick and painless as they come. I leave their comfortable and private waxing room with smooth hair-free legs and wonderfully shaped eyebrows every time. A man walks into a salon... sounds like the start of a corny joke. It is an intimidating thing as a gentleman (albeit a portly balding one), to walk into a woman's salon for a haircut. My experience could not have been better at Racine's. I was greeted warmly and never felt out of place in this busy Islip gem. The owner was warm and accommodating, I also got an unbelievable cut. Not only do I respect this salon for the non for profit services it provides to those undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but the customer service and professionalism of its staff exceeded my expectations. Rosie's wax was also awesome, and I never thought I would be able to use that word to describe a Brazilian wax. I have been going to Racine Spa and Salon for years. The amount of comments I receive on my gel nails is crazy. They always look perfect because Chantille is a perfectionist! I go to Rosie for waxing, again perfection! Deana for spray tan, facials, makeup and eye lashes, again perfect. Cynthia is a makeup artist and always makes me feel like the queen I am. Kristie is my main hair stylist for color, cut, styling, however I have gone to all for a blowout and they are all outrageous. Every massage therapist I've ever gone to at Racine has been excellent. I went there this past Saturday. I am a Breast Cancer survivor and have had problems with stylists knowing how to handle my new hair growing in. I was warmly welcomed by Rachel and the rest of the staff and was told that Kristin would do my hair. Kristin was so understanding, and knew exactly what I needed and listened to me while I explained my feelings about my hair. I will be honest at first while I was satisfied with my cut, I wasn't happy but that's because before I had cancer I had long wavy hair and I guess for a while until I get that nothing would make me happy. But three days later as I look at myself I am absolutely loving the cut and think I am going to keep it this way. Racine also does other wonderful things for breast cancer patients. Yes, it is more expensive than the low cost salons but it is so worth every penny!!!!! Thank you for making me feel pretty again! read more

I used Racine for my hair and makeup for my wedding. They were awesome on a short notice with time and came to help me out! The two ladies arrived on time, which was great, but then took an extended period of time to set up as the two ladies were more focused on sharing stories from the salon and setting up a breakfast date for after the hair and makeup of the day. The hair styling and updos were not hideous, but were very basic and secured with at least 2 bottles of hairspray. I should mention the hairspray also got in all of our eyes because of her enthusiasm when spraying it. Even for the girls with shorter hair who had it down, there was so much spray that when a breeze hit their hair, it moved as if it was one piece. The barrettes that she secured in my hair repeatedly came out throughout the wedding and reception. All in all, compared to the makeup, the hair was a success even though she worked at such a snail's pace that we left a half an hour late for the venue. To be fair, we would have left earlier except that my maid-of-honor actually had to kick the pair of "artists" out of my house because instead of packing up their things, they were again sharing Salon stories and talking about their summers. As for the makeup, the "artist" could not have been a nicer individual! Seriously! As the person who started Mondays at Racine she really does have a wonderful heart period. She also talked at length about all of her projects and her line of organic makeup and lashes. Great success! She even applied her lashes to three of my girls including myself. Although I had lash extensions for the wedding and commented that I didn't need an extra row of lashes and that I couldn't have mascara on my lashes because the extensions come out when I try to remove it, she told me it was not a problem and it would look great. I don't feel I really needed that bigger than I look but out of all the makeup she applied the eyes were probably the least disappointing. However, at the end of the night I discovered she had put so much glue to secure her special lashes into my eyelash extensions my lash line her lashes and generally my lids into the corners of my eyes that half of my lashes and all of my extensions came off and trying to remove them. I also got a slight irritation and rash on my eyelids. My bridesmaids also mention that they had the same problem and are also rather lashless at the moment. As for the rest of the makeup, I showed pictures & told her I wanted a very light and just a foundation that would look good in photos. We also had a rather extended discussion on how whenever I get my makeup done people put on bronzer and it looks terrible because my skin so light. She agreed and said it's terrible how people do that. Then, she applied multiple layers of bronzer and blush (at least 5!). I also requested no under eye concealer because it takes and makes me look older. You guessed it, bring on the layers of organic concealer spackle. On to the lipstick. I had purchased Revlon ColorStay lipstick for the wedding. She put so much of the ColorStay part on my lips on the inside of my lips and on my lip line on the outside that it started crusting and got all over my teeth. She said I was a vision. When we were packing up the car to go and my maid of honor was kicking them out of my house as previously mentioned I looked in a car mirror and thrn i saw it. The concealer had gelled with perhaps the makeup setting spray and was in little globules under my eyes. On my face, every pore seem to be filled in with little dots of makeup accented by blush, bronzer and a broad stripe where I guess the brush had gone? There seem to be some kind of stripe of contrast or something from my cheekbones down & from the corners of my mouth down to my chin. I was a hot mess. My bridesmaids suggested I go have her fix it - which would make sense since I paid her to do it in the first place. However, this was her studied & unrushed work - there certainly wasn't time or any point for her to redo the same very caked & aging look. I grabbed a bunch of random makeup & baby wipes from upstairs and threw it in a bag. On the 20 minute ride to the venue, i wiped my face, leaving the eyes (no time!) and I redid my makeup. It looks great in the pictures - which surprised me - who knew I had makeup talent!? But I would never have my makeup done there ever ever ever again. In fact after that, I never want to get my makeup done again. If my eyelashes ever grow back I might try extensions again. But right now my eyeballs look rather bald. I must say she was a very very very nice lady. But the makeup was beyond disappointing and I would not suggest anyone who wants to feel good about themselves getting it done there. She was very very nice though. A very big heart. read more

So went in to get hair colored with highlights. Jamie as always does a fabulous job. What I didn't like was that I had to have someone else do the rollers and smooth out my hair. She was really nice and I enjoyed conversating with her. As well as Kayla, very sweet and sociable. But.. If I make an appt I'd like to stick to that one person, however it may have been my fault because when I made my appt I couldn't say what I wanted to say the "right" way and said that my hair I felt was half assed. Not sure if maybe that was the reason I was handed off to someone else to "finish" my hair and it even cost me more money because I felt like I should of gotten the rollers and the "blow out" discounted if not free because my hair the previous times when I went to get it done did not stay nicely at all and had to put it up or redo it myself which I don't think is fair after the amount that I spend. I tried the rollers this time, however my hair still didn't really turn out the way I wanted to, unless I'm being picky but if I'm going to spend $230 I would want for my hair to be how I want it And never the less not throw it up or redo it myself. Disappointed but my hair is hard to deal with and it's a lot of hair but I also feel not too much attention is payed to the ends which plays a lot in the styling of the hair as well and maintaining the style. I'm going to try to push it to every 4-5 months if I can and just get the coloring done. I'll prob start drying it and straightening it myself or go elsewhere for just that. I was there for 4.5 hours and felt at some point uncomfortable since I saw someone walk up to the stylist and probably was like... Why is she still here? I don't know but either way I'm going to just stick to the coloring here and walk out with a wet head, that way I don't spend the extra 40-50 bucks. Seems only I can tame my hair.. read more

I used Racine for my hair and makeup for my wedding. My trial was great...but then came the wedding day. My eye makeup was falling down my face about 10-15 minutes after having it applied. Well, I got my proofs back and they look awful. It looks like I did my makeup myself. My face looks uneven and the eye makeup you can barely see. I am so unhappy. Plus, the young lady who did my hair didn't even put my hairpiece or veil on after she finished! I had to do it myself with the help of one of my bridesmaids!
