The employee I spoke with was generally pretty helpful, and wasn't unfriendly, though didn't seem quite as confident as I would have liked when I'm talking with a salesperson for (to me) high priced items. I knew exactly which rack I wanted for my e-bike, so that part was easy. But I also need a hitch/receiver installed in which to attach the rack. He at first thought that I was going to need a hitch that was ~$300 more than what I expected because he hadn't looked at the full range of options needed for my vehicle and the rack I wanted to purchase. Luckily, when he was showing them to me, he looked again and checked all the options and found the less expensive version (I don't a fancy hitch!). I also was a little surprised that I had to pay for the entire purchase up front (the item I have is backordered, which I actually knew and told him it almost certainly would be)--that's because when I called a couple months ago to inquire about getting the installation I thought I was told that a deposit would be necessary with the balance due at arrival/installation. But it's ok, I paid the full amount... but then got a call a few minutes later (I wasn't yet out of the parking lot) that they couldn't do the hitch installation because it required a different sort of electrical installation than they're prepared to do there. So they ended up voiding the transaction since I'd paid for the hitch and rack together. I did stop in a third time (again, just had gotten into the car) to ask precisely what I need to have with the hitch installation. Since I now have to do the hitch installation independently, I wanted to make sure I relay exactly the correct information so there's no nasty surprises if I choose to re-place my order here for the rack itself. Although I will be looking around to see if there's somewhere that might be able to do all of it together, it's more likely I will end up going here to purchase a rack and have it installed, and although I'm disappointed the whole thing can't be done here I would recommend it to others. read more

For the most part, stellar experience (and products) - I originally ordered a full set of Thule roof racks, cargo box - the whole nine yards. After a little over a month of waiting, I decided to finally call Thule corporate and found out that one of the fit kits were actually discontinued. Not in any way Rack Attack's issue. But did inform Thule that they should notify their vendors/suppliers of such issue so that in the future, this wouldn't occur as most people in my position may not have been as understanding. Anyways, decided to then install cancel part of my order (roof rack) and purchased OEM cross bars instead, once this arrived, I still had Rack Attack install the Thule Motion XT cargo box on top and it mounted just fine. Only reason for four stars was the simple fact that I noticed scuff marks on my driver side A-pillar post install, I inquired with Jacob/Jake (?) and he wasn't sure where that came from. Not blaming them per se, but I know this wasn't there prior to the install. I was able to rid of the marks with a little rubbing compound and buffer once I got home. One also slight sidebar was my refund process, not on RackAttack's end, but I believe my merchant provider had a hiccup, as when the refund was issued by RA, it first showed up fine, but then disappeared for a few days which got me worried. However, about a week later, all cleared as processed and my refund was reinstated in full. Both Jake/Jacob and the manager, Murphy, were absolutely stellar from start to finish. Would do business with again. read more

Purchased a Thule Force XT L and rack rails for 2016 Ford Explorer. After the sale but before the install, I was alerted to the fact the the unit was out of stock, but they would honor the deal and sell me the Force XT XL for the same price. Install was about a week after sale and took ~2 hours. Just used the cargo case to drive from Evanston to the SouthEast with 5 people + dog and it worked excellently. Easy to use, and great durability. Glad I worked with Rack Attack vs installing myself as the staff there showed my how to easily install and remove the case and rails. Super easy! read more

When I was searching for a shop that could install a hitch on my Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, I passed up Rack Attack because the website gave me the impression that they only sold racks. After I called several garages to ask if they install hitches, one suggested Rack Attack and said that they definitely install hitches. So I went in, ordered a hitch (a little over $200 that had to be pre-paid) and wait for about 7 business days until it arrived at the store. I set up an appointment for installation, which I was told would take 2 hours. I dropped off the car and less than 2 hours later received a call informing me that the car was ready. Installation labor was $200. They did a nice job and the employees were all very friendly. I highly recommend Rack Attack. read more

I've been shopping online for a roof rack system for awhile and called over to this location looking for a specific rack. The one I called about was out of stock, but Giovanni offered me some other options that were similar in style and price. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, which I appreciated. I paid a small fee ($25) to have the rack assembled out of the box and installed on my car. Giovanni walked me through the install and explained how to load my bike onto the rack. In our recent out of state move to Chicagoland, I lost my Thule Apex keys. I've searched online and fiddled around with the lock since for the most part it's supposed to be easy once you identify the serial no. for the key: N***. For some reason, my piece didn't come with the serial no. engraved anywhere. Took my rack to Rack Attack and one of the gents went through pretty much every Thule key until he found the right key. He went inside for a min. came back out with a new set of keys and 2 cylinders; changed out the cylinders and gave me the new keys. I was pretty stoked that this was resolved so I asked him what I owed him for the new locks. He said, it's an even exchange, his cylinders with mine, so he charged me nothing. What? What in the world? Am I in Thule heaven? Nope, I was just in good hands with the Rack Attack folks. These guys are extremely helpful and I would recommend them highly. Will and Kohl are super knowledgeable, patient and helpful in what can be a confusing process if you get sucked into the reddit vortex of hitch tongue weights and "best" bike racks. In addition, next level with communication over phone and email. I bought a hitch, platform bike rack, roof rails and rooftop bike carrier through them and the install job was top notch on all of it. Better prices than big box and better install jobs than places like Uhaul. Super happy with everything and I know based on the communication that they will stand by the products or help with the manufacturers if there's ever an issue. Be careful to check the product features on your own instead of relying on the sales people. I spoke to Giovanni at the Rack Attack store in Skokie asking for a 2 bike platform that tilts out so that the trunk can open without removing the bikes off the rack. He sold me the Thule T2 Classic. But after my purchase, I found that in fact it does not tilt out...you must remove the bikes. Gio apologized for the error, as he was relatively new to this rack. Still, it was too late to try to secure another rack for my trip, so I had to keep this one. The product is not as advertised by Rack Attack, so unfortunately, I am a dissatisfied customer. Clean, well organized store, attentive employees... I purchased a replacement lock set for a Yakima Space Cadet, as I had lost the key since last used. The website is usable, i located the item i needed (200LOCK) and called to confirm it was in stock. Walked in around 4:00pm, the entire transaction took about 3 minutes, and that included them locating change - there apparently aren't many cash customers, I'm told. Got home, removed the old lock set with the SKS control key, but I'll be damned if i can get the new lock core inserted. After an hour of trying, I was considering just pouring gasoline on the whole thing and torching it. I called Rack Attack when they opened on Thursday, and asked if i could bring it by on Saturday morning and pay to have the lock set installed, and was told "sure, no charge". The killer? Upon removal of the old lock core that was missing a key, it's the same code as the new lock core - A135 - I could have just used the key that came with the new lock core. Bottom line - very professional, excellent service, better prices than REI. Pleasant atmosphere, very clean and well maintained store. I decide to move forward with this company over Uhaul because their customer service was unbelievable and yelp reviews were excellent.The communication was 100% and with the country needing hitches, there is hIgh demand. Rack Attack was on it and informed me that securing a hitch for my car could be a problem due to low inventory in the country. They said they'd be on it and I received a call that they secured a hitch and they got me in 2 days before I was leaving for my trip to Michigan. This was amazing timing. It was a fast appointment. My wife and I wanted a bike rack installed on the back of our Honda Pilot that could hold 4 bikes but were reluctant because we don't have a trailer hitch. At Rack Attack, not only were we able to get a trailer hitch installed that is aesthetically pleasing, but were able to get a Thule bike rack - all reasonably priced. We also recently purchased and had installed Yakima Kayak racks and the price and service continued to be top notch. I purchased a rack for my vehicle off the Mazda website. (I am brand new to biking). They had a product I needed, so I purchased it. There was only one option. I thought, great! I did not realize different racks are made for different types of bikes. My bike does not fit. Mazda will not allow me to return it. Now what? I did homework. I found the right rack for my bike online by Thule. Great reviews. Thule listed local dealers with my product in stock. I called Rack Attack and spoke with Will, the store manager. He heard my story, empathized and took my info to call me when the rack arrived. We hung up and 30 seconds later, he called. It had just arrived as we were talking. I promptly went to the store and met Will and Cole. They had just opened the shop, two or three days prior. Will took time with me to make sure I understood how to use the rack and coached me through setting it up on my vehicle. I needed to know I could put it on and take it off by myself. Indeed, Will offered, but I declined. These gentleman were kind, knowledgeable, patient and clearly believed in the products they sell. I purchased several products in the store from Rack Attack-Chicago. The day of the purchase, I was told that all the products were available to leave the store after the transaction on my credit card. After charging my card, they then told me that I would have to return in a week to pick up my products. A week later, the products were still not available for pick up. Then another week went by and the products were still not available for pick up. I finally was able to pick up my products weeks after the agreed upon date. A discount of 10% was going to be refunded for my inconvenience. At pick up, the Rack-Attack employee was not able to produce a new statement or receipts for the credit amount. I was told that a receipt would be emailed to me later that day. I received an email the next day, but the credit was not completed after checking with the credit card company over the next week. I have been dealing with issues with Rack Attack-Chicago for about a month. Rack Attack-Chicago overcharged my credit card. I requested a credit to my credit card for the incorrect amount and nothing is being done. I have stopped payment on those charges until the matter is resolved on their end. read more
