Noah and his team were so great! I brought my cousins car in after it failed the emissions test across the street. Mely in the office hear all my concerns and was able to get me in the same day. After running diagnostics Noah and Yaakov determined her car would need a new catalytic converter and 02 sensor-both of which would be under warranty due to the year and mileage on the car. Rather than try and charge me to repair there they did my oil change and told me to take the car to Honda where the warranty repairs would be covered. The emissions testing station told me I had something wrong, so I needed it fixed b4 I could pass. They pointed to this mechanic behind the testing center. I kinda thought it was a little scammy, but what else could I do? Then, as I sat there waiting for my car to get fixed, I still was feeling like maybe I was going to be taken for a ride... Finally, my car was ready at a total cost of a mere $45 AND they'd taken my car to get the emissions testing themselves. From what I can tell, it was good service. They also parked my car in a way that made it easier for me to leave. Seems like a win. read more

I brought my car to Factory Muffler for transmission issues after bringing it to AAMCO on N Western Ave when they told me my car of only *five* years old needed a replacement transmission for $2200. I don't know anything about cars but it didn't make sense to me that a car with only 71k miles on it could have a transmission go out like that. I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on the *used* replacement AAMCO was offering me so I brought it to Factory Muffler since I knew someone who worked there. I'm SO GLAD I got a second opinion at Factory Muffler. It turns out my car's transmission had a loose screw and the transmission fluid spilled out of the car. So they replaced the screw and the fluid and I was on my way without spending thousands of dollars for a new one. Factory Muffler didn't take advantage of me as a customer who didn't know anything about the cars when they easily could have. Their quick and honest service made me feel respected and also relieved me of all the stress I was having for three days after AAMCO told me very confidently that my whole transmission needed to be replaced. I went here for years until Noah, the owner (at the time, at least), did $200 worth of work on my car WITHOUT MY PRIOR AUTHORITY, APPROVAL OR KNOWLEDGE. What the heck is that?!? When I asked him why he did this work without calling me first he said that if it's not a lot more money he will just do the work he feels is needed. What??? Since when is $200 and a 30% increase to the amount of charges that I agreed to incur not a lot more money??? Maybe $200 is not a lot to him, but it is to me. I don't know much about cars. Any time I need to take my car in to get repaired I feel like I'm rolling the dice. The guys at Factory Muffler really make you feel comfortable and informed about your investment. I have a '98 Honda Civic that I bought used 6 months ago and knew it would need some repair. I went to the Devon location first and Aviv referred me to his dad, Noah at the Skokie location (Noah's shop does welding, a possible cost effective measure). My muffler had a hole and after being invited to look under the car with the guys I saw that the entire muffler and piping up to the converter was rusted. A shoddy patch repair had been done previously. Instead of replacing the section of rusted pipe and doing the due diligence the previous owner instead decided to cut off the bad and weld the mid section pipe directly to the converter. Awesome. So instead of replacing the muffler and piping up to the converter I now was forced to replace the converter as well. They offered to do a patch job to make things cost effective, but unlike the previous owner I'm not a patch and go kind of girl. I don't like making repeat trips to the mechanic, I'd rather pay a little more upfront and not have to go back for multiple repairs. Basically even with a much, much cheaper patch job I might have been able to skate by for maybe another year and then would have to go back to get the whole thing replaced anyway effectively spending at least $150-180 more in the long run. Noah is pretty great, he gave me a couple parts at cost and even threw in a discount for good faith. I showed up at the shop a little before 5 pm, I was assessed, parts collected, repaired, and out the door by 6 pm. My little Honda no longer sounds like a jet engine coming in for a landing and I would without question recommend these guys to anyone needing any repair. read more

I was going to type out the whole experience, but it's multiple pages, and I'm sure nobody is going to read all that. I feel like they ripped me off for $1000. They feel like they did not. The work they did was not necessary, nor did it address the issue I brought my car in for. They saw this sucker coming from a mile away, and there were numerous red flags, but I ignored them all. I am not very forceful when standing up for myself, and they took full advantage. Didn't return my "broken" parts either, but later I found out they are worth money for scrap, so it's just another part of the scam. I have a feeling they normally probably prey on the people who fail their admissions test. You have been warned. Just a followup to my review from 2/19/17. My muffler relapsed in to position whereby it was again clanging on the frame, as previously. I returned to see Noah, Ashley cheerful as always, sent me back into the shop. By the way, I love a shop that let's you watch the repair process. At any rate, Noah welcomed me back, quickly reconfigured my exhaust pipes with a flick of the wrist, and arc welded the joint in a matter of moments. I was back on the road again, confident of the permanence of this fix, wondering why i had been jury rigging the problem for a year. I guess because I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting Noah yet. The other day I went to Skokie for the Vehicle Emission Test, only to find the old battery of my car dead upon the test. Referred by the office staff, I crossed the street and walked into Factory Muffler and Complete Auto Repair. I asked a tall gentleman with curly gray hair if they could help me out. "Sure, Complete Auto Repair," said he. Very soon a new battery was put in place. Before releasing my car, the gentleman checked it to see if it was ready for the test. Unfortunately, the result showed it was not. If I understand correctly, what happened was that the battery replacement caused a temporary memory loss, which does not affect driving at all, but makes it unready for the test. To bring up the memory fast requires running my car on a highway for awhile. So I drove all the way to Dundee Road and came back. To make sure that my car was ready, the gentleman ran the test again, which showed that my car still was not ready. I did another three times. After each time, they run the test patiently. Finally, he confirmed that my car was ready for the test. Even though my problem caused them all the extra work, I was not asked to pay except a reasonable price for the battery. Under the store name are the words, "Specialist in Emission Test 100% Guarantee." If anyone needs help in the emission test or auto repair, I can vouch for Factory Muffler and Complete Auto Repair at 7346 Central Park Ave, Skokie. I have only wonderful things to say about my experience at Factory Muffler and Complete Auto Repair. Noah and his team were competent and definitely knew more than the Audi dealership. My 2018 Audi A4, with only 15,000 miles, was rejected by the emissions test (3 times) due to sensors not being ready. I took my car to the Audi dealership and they were no help. Noah knew exactly what was wrong and was able to fix it. He came to the shop on a Sunday, when they were closed, to help me. He definitely went above and beyond. He even took my car to the emissions center for the final test! When I went to purchase my license plate sticker, a man was in there complaining about the same issues I had. I recommended he go over to Noah and his team. The person working at the emissions center agreed and said they are the best. I am very grateful for their help. I also should note, Salvador, the office manager, was great as well. He made sure I had everything I needed and that the TV was on a channel I wanted to watch. read more

First, a little background. I have a personal mechanic that does oil change, maintenance prevention, brakes, minor repairs etc. He is a professional mechanic that works in a car dealership auto service for over 20 years, and he enjoys doing repairs/car maintenance work on the side. He had told me that my muffler exhaust pipes might be leaking a little. My personal mechanic showed me where the problems were. He had advised me to go to a muffler shop where they can just replace the part with the holes. Well, 2 months ago in September (just a few days after my mechanic informed of my pipe problem) I went to get my emission test and saw the Factory Muffler shop, so I went there. The guy from the muffler shop explained to me the same thing my personal mechanic said about the pipes. First let me say the owner and the people at the Factory Muffler were very friendly. With that being said, I figured they were honest. He quoted me a price which was higher than I wanted, but he looked honest and I figured this might be a good price as he said that he charges less than other places. So I went ahead and got it fixed rather quickly on the same day. I went back to my personal mechanic just recently for oil change, and he said that the Factory Muffler guy did more work than necessary. My personal mechanic said that the muffler shop just needed to change the exhaust pipe, not the muffler and the resonator. He showed me what was done and he reminded me that the actual problem was just on the exhaust pipes, as my personal mechanic was explaining, I recalled that the muffler shop guy did not mention any damage on the resonator or the muffler, the muffler guy just showed me the problem on the exhaust pipe. My personal mechanic explained to me again that only the exhaust pipe piece needed replacing, and he showed me where the resonator and the muffler were. Needless to say, the muffler shop performed more work than necessary and of course charged me on extra parts and labor that were not needed, he charged me a muffler and the resonator that was not defective. Factory Muffler took advantage of my lack of knowledge. It was my fault for being so trusting, it was my fault for not getting a second quote from somewhere else. I had learned from my idiocy. I hope if the Factory Muffler sees this review, I would hope that they change their tactics and be more honest, as I would not like others to get scammed as I did. And to the people who read this review, I hope you learn from my mistakes, beware of some shops if you are not automotive mechanically inclined, that they may take advantage of you no matter how persuasive they may be. And if you are not already getting second quotes, then I hope that you will get a second quote/opinion, it may save you some money. read more

Good Honest work! They take the time her to explain what is wrong with your car and show it to you in person, BEFORE you leave to have it repaired. The last place I went to would just take my car and send me off on my way, calling later to tell me what they found without me being able to see it in person. That being said, you do need to spend a little more time at the place before you leave, but it will probably save you money so it is worth it! If there is a light comes on in your car and the problem is not significant they will give you their honest opinion about weather it is worth getting it repaired or not. The workers are very friendly and work hard to do a great job! I am glad I found this place and that it is so close to me! read more

In response to the reply from the shop... When hooking my vehicle up to the computer THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES!!! I was NEVER told it was an evaporative system malfunction, I was NOT told that it would only be a $50 charge to diagnose what needed to be done, I was told very SPECIFICALLY what had to be done and the charges of over $600.00 attached to it. And I was SPECIFICALLY SHOWN A SPOT OF OIL ON THE GROUND IN THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS LEAKING OIL!! My car does not leak oil, has never had a problem leaking oil, and I haven't had a puddle of oil EVER underneath my car to this day!! I may be a female but I am NOT a STUPID female, AND I was there with someone else who was a witness to everything that I was told and what they wanted to charge me! I also find it amazing that this place can pretend to try to remember me, my car, and the details attached to my car a month after I was there. There was no paperwork, nothing... And now they want to say what was wrong? Guess what! THEY are the ones mistaken this time. I am the one that has the scratch piece of paper that had things scribbled on it with the prices attached including a $180 charge AFTER repairs to get the car to pass emissions because "It could take 5 minutes, it could take 5 days, you never know but thats why the price is $180"... No real written estimate given, just a scratch paper... No error codes off the computer... A mysterious puddle of oil underneath the car that was shown to me as being mine... SHADY SHADY SHADY... And now to reply and give a completely different set of problems from what I have in WRITING on that SCRATCH PAPER? Next time don't take for granted that the female walking through the door is a moron because some actually do know about vehicles. My mistake was coming here instead of going to one of the mechanics I have dealt with over the years for business reasons... Will I make the same mistake again?? Methinks not! read more

I was looking for good place to do alignment for my sedan car and i found this place near me. First when I checked reviews seemed good place, so i decided to go there. When they finished doing alignment i left shop, driven about a mile and i felt that did not change anything, my car was still going right and steering wheel was not straight, i came back right away to the shop and told the mechanic that i still have same issues while driving, so did it again. After couple days of driving i felt that its actually got worst and makes some noises from the wheels. Overall I figured they don't have good mechanic who can do alignment. Went to do my state emissions check but failed inspection. I brought my car next door to their shop and was immediately seen. He adjusted some electrical wiring and brought car himself back to state vehicle emissions testing and vehicle passed. He said since he didn't change any part that it was free, but I insisted he take $25 for his efforts. Best automobile repair experience I've ever had. I have brought my vehicles to Noah for about a year. On Christmas Eve my car broke down in the Wetern suburbs. I new it was the altanator and had the car towed to a near by shop that was closed. When they called back with an estimate they said it would cost about $1,400.00 stating that when the altanator went that I blew out some chip. I new this could not be and called Noah a factory muffler. He said it would be about 240 bucks. I paid to have the car towed to factory muffler where it was fixed in one hour. Took my car the same day it was rejected for emissions test for the second time, Aviv at the Devon shop told me his dad was the right man to talk to regarding problems with emissions systems. So I drove to their other shop in Skokie and that's how I met Noah, Aviv's dad. I was greeted, showed the results and told them what could have possibly made the test fail as a result of some sensors being not ready. Noah immediately understood what I was talking about, and he assessed the fee for the repairs. He said he might need the car for about 2 days, and told his assistant, Dave (very nice and amicable guy, I might add), to give me a ride to the train station. About an hour later around 6:00PM, I received another call from Dave and Noah saying my car was ready. I agreed to pick it up the following morning, (a non-working day) and couldn't believe that they had not only fixed the problem, but also had it tested again for me!!! The result was a pass, and I drove away thinking there are in fact honest mechanics that know what they are doing and go that extra mile to be willing to open their shops on a non-working day to give me my keys back. I am very satisfied with the service I got, and they will be my choice of car repairs in the future. read more

Back in May when I needed to get my car serviced to met the emissions standards I discovered these Factory Muffler on Devon. Their location didn't have the tools required but kindly suggested I go to their other location. I went to the Skokie location and in less than an episode of Dr. Who they had my car fixed, certified as good to go by the emissions place and I was on my way. So when my brakes started squealing bloody murder I didn't hesitate to bring it back to these guys. This time I did go to the Devon location and they were able to get my car in right away. About an hour and half later I was on my way. The prices are extremely reasonable and they are very stand-up guys (plus Sandy, the Devon St shop dog, is a sweet heart!). They are a little further away than may neighborhood shops, but definitely worth the trek from my location in Lakeview. For years my father was a mechanic so I am always skeptical of shady business practices. I cannot speak more highly of Factory Muffler and Complete Auto repair. I will definitely be back any time my car needs attention. Thanks guys! read more

Here it is, May of 2016 and my opinion hasn't changed. I had a problem with my old car. They diagnosed it, fixed it, found 2 more problems, fixed them, worked all day on it and the charge was really quite reasonable. Later, I decided to trade it in. Because of frame damage due to a reported accident, the dealer offered me a pittance on trade-in. I went back to Factory Muffler, asked the owner if he was interested and he gave me a fair price, well above the dealer's offer. With my new car, I won't need them as much, but they'll still get my maintenance business. read more

These guys do a great job and charge a fair price. I have used them mostly for emissions work on my 2004 VW Touareg and needless to say they are significantly less expensive than going to the dealer. But Noah has a great handle on what is needed to get the job done. Saved me thousands of replacing 4 catalytic converters a few years ago. This past week I failed my emission test. They replaced my air pump and a leak detector and a valve and did it for a good price and fast. I left it with them and they not only did the fix, they drove it to get the miles needed for the retest and then did the retest and it passed. Then they did an oil change and fixed the belly pan that Jiffy Lube screwed up. Noah is a great guy and was willing to meet me after hours for me to pick up my vehicle. Ok I have an older car '96 w/80,000 miles on it. This year I had to take the emmissions test before I could renew my plates (NEW LAW AS OF JAN09) and the shop I normally go to tried vigalently to help me pass. So before spending more money then I had already put in I actually read that booklet they give at the emmisions place while you wait about shops that will help you pass. I researched online and just like going to another doctor for a second opinion I decided this was best place with an "A" rating from the state, and the honorary award the state gave them for surpassing expectations. Besides this place was LITERALLY right across the street for the emmissions place. Well the owner was so hospitable and honest with me. Their compt system is tied into the state and he pulled out my original "not passing" paper to see the codes listed. (I left mine at the other shop) Had me in the shop when they brought my car in, was standing there when he put his compt on it to verify the codes. Then put it on the lift to check the gas filter (which I know was replaced earlier this year), took it off to examine it and noticed it was rattling. REPLACED THAT. Then did a "smoke test" of the air filter and componants on top of the engine and found out that the coupling hose was not hooked up to the filter it was cracked off, glued it right back on. Also the EGR valve was missing a piece and you could see the smoke coming out of the EGR ordered a new piece. What made this SOOO much more better was that HE the owner actually drove across the street with me in the car to the emmission testing. While waiting he said he does this to show people how cofident he is of his workers he will go with you to the test and doesnt make you pay anyting until you pass. OMG I PASSED! ! ! Drove back and paid the man! I couldnt have asked for more and now my plates are renewed. He has another shop on Devon in the city but really why drive all over if this shop is right there at the emmissions place. I was almost ready to put a new catalyc covertor for a dicounted price that was way more then this. Thank you =) read more

Took my car here to get help to pass emmisions test. $600 later, they were done with my car but my car was not completely fixed and ran worse than before. Took it back and i did not like their diagnosis to my car. I choose not to spend more $ here and not get results. The mechanics here are incompetent and just care to take your money. read more
