I chose this company based on its previously strong reputation -- unfortunately, what I experienced was a complete breakdown in communication, accountability, & basic customer service. I recently purchased a 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport & contacted Rack Attack to purchase & install a BakFlip tonneau cover. I was initially assisted by "Steve" at the Santa Monica location. When I called back the next day to move forward with a ~$2K & change purchase, I learned he was suddenly on medical leave -- with no transition or handoff. From there, the experience unraveled quickly. I was transferred to another manager who came to "help them out" from the Orange County location, who was helpful & knowledgeable. He upsold me (successfully) to a higher-end tonneau cover compatible with future rack bars & added fog lights. I made a $1,000 payment based on his assurance that he would confirm product availability & timing for installation before my upcoming trip. He never called back. The following day, I had to chase down updates myself & reached another employee, "Don," who seemed completely unaware of my prior conversations & told me Aaron was no longer available -- contradicting what I had just been told. Again, no follow-up came. By Thursday -- now, 2 days before my trip -- I contacted yet another staff member who confirmed: The tonneau cover had arrived The additional products had not & they could not accommodate installation within the timeframe I had been originally promised At that point, it became clear this was not a one-off miscommunication but a systemic issue. Most concerning, one employee candidly admitted: "I've been here a month, & everything has been a complete mess." That statement alone explains a lot. This experience reflects not only a failure to deliver on a sale, but a lack of internal structure, communication, & support for both customers & employees. No customer spending this level of money should have to manage their own order across multiple disconnected staff members. Rack Attack -- if you are positioning yourselves as a premium outfitter & a key partner for brands like BakFlip / RealTruck, this level of disorganization directly undermines that claim. At this point, I am simply looking for accountability, clear communication, & a resolution that matches the expectations set at the time of purchase. I would welcome a direct response from management regarding how this situation will be resolved -- & how similar customers can expect to be treated moving forward. The guys here know what they're doing when it comes to the installation of the products they offer for sale. They all seem to be very friendly and genuinely want their customers satisfied. I have a new car and was a little nervous/concerned that I might end up with a ding of some sort but they are experts at what they do, Tristan, ATL and Steve are all skilled professionals. The products that they offer are of the highest quality and with that comes a higher price point. I selected a Thule racks with Rocky Mountain bike rails to transport my bikes. I've used this same setup on another vehicle twelve years ago and that setup is still in service and working. I visited Rack Attack based on the recommendation of a friend who liked their customer service. I have a newer Toyota Sequoia and needed help figuring out what cargo box would work with my vehicle. I spoke with a guy there who identified a Thule XL cargo box that he said would work great. I had them install it, for an additional fee, since it wouldn't fit in my car to bring home. They were very courteous and installed with ease. When I got home I opened the trunk door and it ran into the cargo box. I tried adjusting the cargo box are far up on my vehicle as possible but it still hung too far in the back to avoid my trunk door. I brought my vehicle back in a few days later to have them help figure out what to do. The guy told me it didn't fit my car but since it was installed, I couldn't return it. I explained that I had THEM install it after they sold it to me, claiming it would work with my vehicle. He then said he could take it back but for a 20% restocking fee. I'm extremely disappointed in the policy here given that THEY said it would fit and THEY installed it. No one checked that it would clear my trunk!? They are supposed to be the experts. Why do I have to PAY for their mistake? Their website claims a Fit Guarantee but what I got was duped. I will not be using their services again. read more

Just got our roof rack and cargo box installed, and it was a great experience. I called in a couple times to ask for recommendations based on our needs and both Ben and Eric were super helpful. They both were very knowledgeable and took their time to answer all of my questions. I never felt like I was being rushed off the phone. Eric was able to email me a quote while we were on the phone with a breakdown of all the parts I needed and the installation costs. It was very straight forward and I was able to make an appointment for the next day to have everything installed. Sad to see the business going down in customer appreciation and respect for their loyalty. In the past I have given them a 5 Star rating and recommended this place to a number of my biker friends. Now I am sorry to hear their experiences have become as miserable as mine. My Yakima 4 bike rack had come apart for some reason when removed from the hitch and I needed help to put it back together. I called Rack Attack on Lincoln Blvd where I had bought it. A guy said to come on over. Before I could explain the problem, a bearded guy rudely asked me to come next week or two days later. I didn't see a single customer in the store except for one picking up his receipt. In the same breath he said he was there just for one day but there was no one who could help! He didn't want me there! I saw another sort of familiar, younger face inside and asked him to help. He was willing to help, but technically a bit challenged. He said I had a screw part missing. I couldn't see any silver screw in the trunk where I had stored the Yakima. At that point I decided to go elsewhere or return to do it myself at home later. Today when i called to see if I would have better luck, I was sent an estimate for $25 for the speed knob assembly. But I already have that! A new guy told me some story about Yakima not shipping spare screws anymore! I am not even sure I need at screw to put it back now. Well, that's how you lose customers and eventually your business! Let me start by saying the staff at RackSolid are very professional. Diego and Luis installed a rooftop tent for me. They then showed me the ease of set up and disassembly. So quick and was so excited to use the Yakima Poler rooftop tent for our anniversary weekend. Bill Puig, general manager, was available to answer any questions and very helpful. What a quality shop. The tent experiment was phenomenal. It took 7 mins to set up and about 10 to break down. It took a little longer because we wanted to ensure we stowed everything properly. We were the talk of the camp site. All the other campers popped over to get a look, chat us up about the Poler and wanted to try it out. Such a comfortable night's sleep and we stayed warm, despite heavy winds. It was a very steady setup and I highly recommend this product and the RackSolid store. Thank you for helping us enjoy our anniversary. On another note, I sent a friend here in the spring for a bike rack and he experienced the same quality and professionalism. Thanks guys! Ok this is why I try my best to support local small businesses. I could of done what a lot of people do. Go into a shop check out what you need to buy. Ask questions. Take up the shops time. Then go to the web and buy something for less money. I went into Rack Solid to look at a new bike rack. I wanted the Kuat bike rack. I first spoke with Bill who was very friendly and helpful. I couldn't be happier with the service I received and the Kuat rack its self. Fast forward 3 months. I went on a trip with two bikes and I noticed that the bikes were leaning into my van more than before. I have no idea how that could of happened unless I was read ended or someone tapped me hard enough in a parking lot. I looked for any bending or damage. I couldn't see or feel any. I ended up calling Rack Solid and I spoke with John (the owner). He told me to come down and they'll take a look at it. He was so friendly and professional with any question he replace my rack with a brand new. Now where in the world can you get that kind of customer service? Not the eff'ing internet. Rack Solid, that's where. If you're in the market for any high quality roof rack, bike rack, don't waste your time going anywhere else. P.S. I could of bought the Kuat on the web for $100.00 less. Rack Attack always comes through! Our Yakima swing arm bike rack was damaged after someone attempted to steal it off the back of our car. The locking mechanism was jammed, and the bike rack was slowly slipping out of the trailer hitch every time we hit a bump. We brought it into Rack Attack, where they then tried to fix it, call Yakima about the warranty on the product, and replace the broken part with a new one. When the two pieces didn't fit, they then replaced our bike rack with a new one, taking on the responsibility of dealing with Yakima. Rack attack installed an inferior trailer hitch (available on Amazon for $70.00 with a 1 star review, see below) on my SUV for $280.00. The rack hung down more than three inches from the car's undercarriage (see photo) eliminating half of the ground clearance and making it useless for driving on anything but perfect roads. When this was pointed out to the manager, he became extremely aggressive and rude, and refused to offer any sort of remediation. Note that when you read the review on Amazon, you find that CURT replaced this hitch with another model in 2016 because of this problem. To summarize Rack Attack installed a discontinued, clearly defective hitch and refused to do anything about it, including removing the hitch, which makes my car practically undriveable. Update 12/3/20. Nate "the owner" finally got back to me after a week of calling and emailing on my part. He told me that he was not going to do anything to rectify the situation. So - now I am stuck with having to pay a mechanic to take the defective hitch off my car to restore it to the same state it was in when I first took it to Rack Attack. Interestingly, in the process of trying to contact Nate, I phoned the Rack Attack store and asked for Nate, the owner. The guy on the phone, who was very polite, didn't know what I was talking about. After I explained, he said "Oh yeah, Nate is a guy from corporate headquarters". So, it turns out that Nate is an owner only in the sense that I got "owned". So the bottom line is: This is not a local business, but a front for a large corporation. They ripped me off, refused to do anything about it and on top of it all, wasted my time. read more

There has been no rectification and no, I'm not sending you my home address. Lastly, the retaining bolts were stripped. I show up just needing a new key to replace my broken one. I almost always support and choose small businesses over larger business 9/10 times. Small businesses tend to want connect to their customers and listen. I wanted that from Rack Attack; I work a few stores down, and decided to pick up a thule 2 bike spare me bike rack for $250. My boyfriend just sold his car to help us financially, so this was my gift to him. Upon purchasing i was offered to have it installed for $40. The person who sold it to me told me it wasnt that complicated and if i can follow directions i can do it. Im a new mom and part of me has always just been independent enough to try to do things myself and getting dirty doesnt phase me. Rack Attack was backed up with other customers so i left with the intention of doing it on my own. The next day I attempted to install it and immediately realized i didnt have a lug wrench. So i called ahead and went down two blocks to them and simply asked if they can losen them for me. After realizing my Jeep Wrangler spare tire is 50 lbs of dead oily weight, i was extremely discouraged but persisted to try. Mind you i just had a baby and i havent made any excuses as to why im incapable. After failing miserably in front of the 2 installation workers numerous times without a hint of advice, assistance or friendly encouragment, i gave up. Youd think if you see a woman, trying her hardest to do shit on her own, youd honor that by a simple assist. Simple help will not cost you your job, or will not offend another customer. Heres pics of what my attempts led to. Im really sad that i have to explain why its so naive and blindsided to say that customer service couldnt or didnt have time to help me for one second.
