A short story long: I drove my truck into a mislabeled parking garage that was too short for my truck and ended up ripping off one of my Yakima roof rack crossbars. The garage owners didn't want anything to do with it and I was in a hurry on my way out of town and mad as a hornet at this point. I remembered some months ago though a friend had told me that Rack N Road was the tits so I called and asked them what I could do in a pinch. I thought the whole tower piece ($50.00) was damaged and they set one aside for me to pick it up an hour later. When I got there though, they took a quick gander at it and only one small piece that sat below the tower was actually broken. They just happened to have an extra one laying around in the back that they tossed my way no charge! They even helped me with an end cap that got torn off too. These guys are awesome, and my friend was right. If you ever have any need for a roof rack, a bike rack, a trailer hitch, snow chains, or anything Thule/Yakima please check these guys out. Wow... if you were ever considering going into the trail and hitch biz, Seattle could really use another place to do this kind of work. I had heard great things about rack and road, but our experience was awful. First off, they didn't have what we needed- which of course is fine- but they found it at one of their warehouses and took a deposit from us. Two weeks went by with absolutely no word from them about the hitch, when we finally - after several tries- got through to them on the phone. They guy didn't have any idea about our order, apparently had no way to even track our order, and they had spelled out name wrong so it was impossible for them to find it in their system for a bit when we first called in. We were told that the part would "probably" be in soon, and that we should make an appointment for install since they were weeks out already! First time anyone had mentioned THAT important piece of info! So we make an appointments for two weeks out, the part FINALLY comes in, and we bring our car in at the appointed time. We ask the tech how long (even though we were already told it can take up to two hours), and he says a few hours. So we leave, Walk the lake, hang back and return at a little over two hours and they are JUST getting started on our car!!!! Unreal!! I cannot believe how unorganized and terrible the customer service is here, but I guess because they're the only game in town they don't have to worry about it. Really hope our hitch actually stays in place! Long story short- at this point there's not another local option- so if you have to use this place, just have a very low expectation for customer service. UPDATE** We went to pick up our car last night and they graciously offered us a 20% discount for our trouble. And the owner/manager actually called us to check in and make sure all was well and admitted to things being a little off given the times we're in. I must say, that extra mile of a personal check in really changed my mind and showed that the management is looking out for their customers. Sounds like we just had bad timing! read more

Whatever you do, do not try to sell your racks or components back to these guys. I didn't have time to post my stuff on Craigslist and had to get rid of it because I don't have storage anymore so I went to them to sell my complete Yakima system. 4 - q towers, 2 - 54in bars, 1 - viper bike rack, a wind screen and 5 locks with key. Cost over $600 new. Saw the identical q towers on the shelf for $119 and the viper bike rack for $70. What did they give? $15 total... if you have time, shop and sell on Craigslist or EBay, Rack 'n' Road are a huge, huge rip off... read more

After reading Yelp reviews I headed down to Rack N Road with my newly purchased 2007 BMW wagon needing some extra space for camping this summer and for my skis this winter . They were most helpful , straightforward and honest . I felt no pressure from them , and after a short wait left with a roof rack and box that looked like it was made for the car. I bought a new car. I called these guys before I bought because with four kids, I need some extra room for camping and bikes. They ordered the parts and I brought it in. I went for a walk around green lake, got some coffee, browsed Greg's, and got back at 4:20. Seems like these guys had time to smoke some of the good stuff. My vehicle hadn't moved. I was kind of upset, so I asked the guy if there was a problem with my rack. He looked my order up and told me that they had the vehicle until five, which, isn't a big deal, but I brought it in at three. I had to disagree. The employee then got in my car, but the rack on in ten minutes, and brought it around. He gave me the keys and said, 4:30 and walked away. I thought to myself, what a prick. Customer service sucked. Will NEVER go there again. I should of gone with the guys in West Seattle. At least they understand customer service. Shit. read more

Just had a hitch and rack installed on my new car here today. I couldn't disagree more with the lady who reviewed negatively here about her hitch experience. These guys are so dialed and professional they deserve way more than what I paid for the service and product. Less than 1 hour turn around time - perfect installation - great in-person instruction on how to use my rack - and they are just nice guys. I even watched the manager bend over backward to help out a distressed phone customer while I waited, and he completely made her happy with his resourcefulness. Go here - trust me. I drove by it many times and always thought that it seemed like they had a lot to offer. I ended up getting a truck cargo net and some bike locks and couldn't believe all the great racks they offered! Everyone was very helpful and knowledgable. I later went back and got chains and even though these weren't high dollar items, they were very helpful and even showed me exactly how to put them on and be comfortable with doing it myself. I recently purchased a new Jeep Wrangler and had an older ski/bike rack that fit my older Jeep Wrangler. I took it to them (I'd previously purchased a bike rack for a different car and had a great experience) and asked if they could make it fit. The team over at Rack N Road on Aurora are kicking ass during this pandemic. I've driven past their shop nearly daily for the last 8 months and finally had a chance to reach out. The week before Memorial Day, we decided to pick up a small camper trailer for our crossover. I called Rack N Road on Monday evening, left a voicemail. Got in touch on Tuesday afternoon and placed an order for the hitch receiver, brake controller and wiring needed for a 4-pin and 7-way setup. Picked it all up Wednesday. By Thursday I realized I didn't have the space to safely install anything on my own at home, and they were able to squeeze me in Friday since we were picking up the trailer Saturday. They made it happen quickly, were extremely thorough and helpful throughout the process. The manager and his team went above and beyond to make it work, even on short notice after I had opted to install myself at home, even amid much longer days than anticipated given the increase in business volume before the summer rush. Phenomenal customer service, can't say enough about how great these guys are. Walked in with my tail between my legs having attempted a self install drilling into my roof that went sideways. The staff didn't blow me off for having gone the DIY route, or shame me with the "should had us do it" as I was expecting to walk into. Instead they walked me through what was causing my install, inspected my project, gave me advice for getting back on track, and even threw in a couple bits of hardware to replace the one I damaged at no charge. In a word, S-L-O-W! When they booked my appointment, they reserved 2 hours, but said it would be more like 90 minutes. When I got there, they said "we have two guys, so it will probably only be a little over 60 minutes." WRONG. I sat there for THREE HOURS waiting for them to finish a simple install of a trailer hitch. They later admitted that the reason it took so long was because "we broke a drill bit at the beginning." When I asked them if they didn't have more than one drill bit, the answer was "yeah, but they're all really dull." Apparently, they don't have a drill bit sharpened either. Who doesn't have that? Surprisingly, there isn't any place to wait, other than one crappy chair by the back door and the bathroom was horribly disgusting - I've seen better at gas stations. This should have been a much better experience than it was, but I got the impression that customer service really isn't high on their list of priorities. read more

I purchased a set of tire chains from Rack N Road a few years ago, and they were very helpful in showing us how to put them on. However, they really stood out when I got a used roof rack on Craigslist this winter only to get home and find out that one of the bolts was missing. They were originally willing to pull one off of the display and order a replacement themselves. However, they found an extra one in their spare parts collection and gave it to me for free! On 3 separate occasions spanning about 4 years now, these guys have delivered simply stellar service. 1st time was enlisting help after my Thule T2 rack got out of whack going thru what should have been an ok car wash- not so much. 2nd time was installing a set up to carry my SUP board- thorough and careful installation, and they didn't mind me asking all sorts of questions about how I'd remove the racks, etc. They were careful and educated me on the system. Yesterday was the 3rd when I went in after having a hard time re-installing the SUP racks since I took them off for a detailed car wash. One of the guys came out to my car and willingly showed me the step I need to do to get the straps to lengthen. Not everyone would be so gracious as to leave the installation area to come outside and patiently show someone how to do this. While they get busy, if you can wait a bit, they know how to treat each of their customers with that one on one attention, which goes very far. Customer service is awesome! I researched the cost of adding a cargo box to handle multiple snowboards on my Subaru Crosstrek. When I talked to them on the phone, they were able to find discounted used crossbars, with a new cargo box. They were able to install all parts, and walked me through the new setup, to make sure I was comfortable handling the equipment. It saved me about 30% compared to the estimated cost! I was in the market for some snowboard/ski racks for my 08 civic sedan, when I came across the Rack N Road (aurora location) groupon. I quickly looked up reviews of the establishment and read some glowing reviews. Knowing nothing about racks, I did some Google research and finally called the store for their options. I spoke to Chris who informed me of the different types of ski rack systems I can purchase and even offered me a used option which would save me some $$$. I eventually ended up with a Thule system and was able to make an appointment to install it two days later. Nevan, diligently worked on my car for about 30 minutes and answered all my questions and explained the operation of the rack system. I was able to apply my groupon and a 10% off coupon their website had.
