Rackley's is shady. I called Rackley's on a Monday to schedule a time to drop my car off and was told to bring it in Wednesday morning. I dropped my car off Wednesday morning and was told "we can't get to it today but we'll call you tomorrow". I left Rackley's with instructions to let me know the cost and nature of repairs before performing any work and was assured that this would happen(it didn't). I get a call later from Zach to ask why my car is there(again) and am told(again) that they'll call me and let me know what they find. After hearing nothing for three days I call Rackley's on a Saturday to find out what's going on with my car and am told they finished the work(!) and that someone will totally call me Monday morning when it's ready to be picked up. Of course, Rackley's fails to call Monday morning so I give them a ring a couple hours before they close and they tell me my car still needs work(?) and that after Zach checks on something they'll call me right back. Rackley's never calls back and I have to call them, yet again, and tell them to stop whatever they're doing and that I'm on my way to pick up my car. I'm floored by the lack of communication and professionalism from Rackley's and despite living within walking distance will never use them again. read more

DO NOT bring your car to Rackley's. I brought my car there and they charged $2,500 to fix it. Two weeks later it died on the highway in the middle of the road. Had to pay to tow it back there, they charged me another $800 for "a different" reason. Literally have had it for 5 days and it breaks down again. Paid for another tow and they are telling me it is going to be $1,500 for yet "a different" reason. There is no way. They are rude and absolutely awful to deal with. My car has broke down 3 different times with my three kids in the car and I am out over $3,000 for nothing. read more

I guess the old saying is true... "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". I reluctantly took my classic car there after many years of refusing due to poor quality and neglect on a previous vehicle, but caved due to lack of quality options in the area, and because zac assured me things were different there now. Well, they are different...for the worst! I took my classic car there to have an overheating problem resolved, brakes checked, and transmission repaired. zac said a month... I told him it was my every other day driver! 1 year and 4 months later it is worse than when I dropped it off. It still overheats, transmission is clunky, and now the freshly rebuilt (not by Rackleys) transfer case is ruined, due to using the incorrect fluid. The transfer case has a tag hanging on it that says what fluid to use!! How ignorant and/or lazy and irresponsible do you need to be to ignore the blatantly obvious tag? They lost parts, broke parts. I would have pulled it out on month 3, but they had pulled the drive train and disassembled the car. The parts were spewed all across the shop. When I would visit, hoping that would show my desire to get this done, I would see my parts all over, many broke, and they couldn't locate rare, precious parts. The Vehicle sat outside in the natural element for the whole period. Tires flat, vehicle rotting away. I asked on multiple occasions to put the sun protector on the dash to protect the dash pad, they never did it. Finally, I went there and put the visor in the window. I had to replace/order parts for them because they are too incompetent to read a manual (I provided) and/or search the Internet for parts. They claim the parts are impossible to find. I located in less than 3 minutes. I gave them my parts sources. I had 3 mechanic turnovers during this debacle, exposing they can't keep mechanics due to poor management. zac is the problem, no doubt, and I think he has the owner fooled that he knows what he is doing. zac lied to my Credit card company about MANY things when I filed a claim. Blatant lies. He told the credit card company it would cost x had I chosen to rebuild the freshly rebuilt transfer case. I told zac, and the mechanic, on many occasions that it was 8000 miles into a fresh rebuild by a competent mechanic, and there were no problems with it prior to them touching it. If they got a second service manager, it might help. But, not sure that would work with current employees. When I picked it up when they said it was ready, I told them it leaked, it was not shifting correctly, the transfer case was making noise and it didn't before, and that it was still overheating. They said to drive it, and it will work itself out. What?!!!! Throughout the 1 year and 4 months I called many times! Texted them, called the owner, left voice mails with the owner , all ignored. I would call from another number, and the phone was answered immediately. I confronted the owner, stating it has been here over a year (at the time). He just laughed it off. I am now going to take them to court to resolve this. I think they should be ashamed they took my money. Clearly an open shut case. I have 45 pages of text to and from zac, and an expert mechanic stating all that I am here is true. THE WORST, stay far away. read more

I requested new rear tires be mounted & balanced, texting the OEM-specification 255/40/ZR17 rear tire size to ensure an accurate install according to this correct tire size Rackley's had previously installed and were currently on the car. I paid the $500.00 bill trusting the work to have been done correctly and completely. When I got home I discovered they had mounted two non-spec 275/40/ZR17 rear tires, altering the suspension geometry and affecting its wear & tear as well as that of braking components & importantly affecting braking & ABS performance due to an increased tire weight, height and width (altering transmission gear ratios & causing wear). The alignment was done when the rear tires were factory-spec, 255/40/17's, so it's now incorrect for the larger, improper tire size. This will cause these unsuitable (and costly) tires to wear prematurely. Increased tire circumference causes speedometer to read falsely lower than the car's actual speed. And the faster I drive, the more the speedometer will be off; and the odometer will read lower miles than actually travelled, serious problems for resale. The new left rear tire is on backwards, as these are high performance, one-direction tires requiring the "V"-pattern tread point V's-forward to enhance tire traction, safely displace road water and lengthen overall treadwear life, while minimizing road noise. The tire sidewall is marked with an arrow pointing forward, the direction the tire rolls, with the word "rotation" next to it to doubly clarify. The left rear tire sidewall arrow points improperly backwards, and this incorrect mounting causes an unsafe deficiency in grip and tracking that can be felt. read more

Rackley's offers some of *the best* service and staff of an auto shop I've ever encountered! Veteran employee Zachary, up front, deserves more than 5 stars on the scale of professionalism, knowledge, friendliness, and work ethic. He is very communicative and he handles his workload like a champ. Over multiple visits I've sat in the shop for many hours and he works nonstop to make sure everyone's issues are handled even when there's a line out the door. Zach always answers my questions with poise. He goes above and beyond as well. For one job Zach helped work out some pain-staking details with a warranty company to cover shoddy work I had done at another shop, something he didn't have to do. Rackley's was able to fix this problem in a very quick time frame..."very quick" considering how many other vehicles they had on their docket! (Something to always note as a customer!) Nick, the tech who's worked on my car, is also extremely professional and friendly. He's got a lot of passion for his job. Nick was/is a perfect match for me since we both like the same make vehicle. Likely, Zach matched us up on purpose. Great! All around, Rackley's makes sure I am fully taken care of and driving a safe vehicle. Everyone I've met at the shop is happy, and fun and easy to talk to. They have a loooong line of loyal customers out the door almost all the time and I completely understand why. I really had high hopes for this place but boy was I mistaken. This was the second car I brought in for a tune up and for them to fix the hydraulic pump in my S class Mercedes. Before I brought it in, I specifically asked if they worked on this type of Mercedes and they told me yes. Well, they didn't. They messed up our car completely! They fried the entire electrical system in our Mercedes and never owned up to their mistake. This was working perfect before dropping it off. On top of it, they messed up so bad, they kept the car for over a month bc they couldn't figure out how to fix it. These people are LIARS. The worst kind of mechanics you can think of....this is it. Avoid this place at all costs. I had to pay about $3k to get my car out and then took it to Mercedes where they could not believe the level of incompetence. To fix their big Fuc*%# up, cost me another $4k. I've had my review waiting to post for a while and didn't bc I've been so pissed over this. Beware and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! read more

my vehicle was towed in for them to look at and let me know of the fix for not starting. good thing that i didnt need it right away because it took 46 days to get it back. they never called me for an update. i only got a return call after calling them, no answer and them then calling me back. repairs were made that i did not approve of and that was not broken when dropped off. sure wish i had taken it somewhere else. stay away, David Rackley might rip you off as well. read more

These are really nice people. I had a minor repair there a few months ago and it went great. I took it back yesterday thinking I needed new brakes, prepared to pay for front and back brakes. They took a good look and came out and said I had about a year on both front and rear. Now they could've made a lot of money on me and I'd have never known different but they didn't. I had my truck inspected at Black's Tire and Auto Service for an auto inspection. I highly recommend Black's and have been using them for years. When I went to pick it up they told me it failed due to some emission codes. I didn't realize at the time they do emissions work but you need to schedule. They also said my front brakes only had a month or so left but the rear brakes were fine. My mechanic of 20 years moved so I read the reviews on Rackley's as they are right down the street from my house and scheduled for them to work on the emissions problem. I also told them to do the brakes since the vehicle was already there instead of going to Black's. After not hearing back for 2 days I called them and they said it would be $415 for the emissions work. I didn't question the emissions repair. The front brakes would be $150 more than Black's and a whole lot more than my last mechanic. But here's the shocker. They said I needed rear brakes also. I told the manager that doesn't sound right as Black's told me they were fine. Well the manager said he would check with his mechanic and call me back. He never called back and when I had to call again to see if the emissions work was done he asked if I wanted the brakes done. I said no and took the vehicle to Black's to have the front brakes done and the rear brakes checked again. The rear brakes pads/rotors were not even close to being replaced. So I went back to Rackley's to speak to the manager and tell him nicely what had occurred. Well he said Black's had probably not checked the inner part of the brakes and consulted with his mechanic that checked out the car. He came back and started discussing with me the inner brakes and out walked the mechanic. He proceeded to explain the reason for replacing the rear brakes was that it was making noise. Well it's 2 weeks later and still no brake noise. And brake noise could attributed dryness, dirt, and other causes but not a reason to replace pads. He also told me that they always give the customer their old parts back to make sure they are not ripping anyone off. Well after I got home I realized that isn't true as they did not give me the emission parts replaced. This is 2nd time in Wilmington I've been told to replace my brakes when they didn't need replacing. When I lived in Miami the local news stations did investigative reporting on auto shops. They would take an automobile in with no known problems to see what they would bill them for unnecessary repairs. It sure cleaned things up. You be the judge of my situation as it's pretty black and white before you take your vehicle to Rackley's. I even told the manager I have 3 vehicles, live down the street and really need a good repair shop. Sometimes making a reasonable profit is just not enough for these repair shops. This is a review of my experience with Rackley's Performance and Auto and is not reflective on all of the employee's that work there. My experience started in June when I was having a leaking water pump problem and based on Yelp reviews chose them to work on my vehicle. When dropping the vehicle off I requested that anything they found that could cause me problems in the near future to go ahead and fix or replace it and that I was not in immediate need of the truck so they could take their time. No problem so far BUT by the end of August I started to ask how long before I would be getting my truck back. Finally around mid-September I decided enough and asked for my truck as I needed it. Upon getting it home I noticed that skid plates that protected the underneath of my truck were gone. I also noticed a bad vibration in the front so I took it back and asked where were the skid plates and to check out the vibration problem. Skid plates could never be located and the gentleman that did the work on my truck was no longer employed there. I also found out that he had been allowed to drive my truck home overnight to road test it. The vibration was a front axle problem that required replacing and when asked what would cause that all of a sudden I was advised that "they just wear out". To just wrap it up in November this is what I'm left with.... I had to add a gallon of coolant as it was never filled back up. After replacing the front axle and having it aligned I still have a vibration problem, just not as bad. After having a new fuel pump installed and a tune-up it takes a minimum of 3 attempts to get it cranked. After forking out $3k for repairs I still have doubts about the vehicle, no skid plates, just an improvised sheet metal fix, and to think it all started with a leaking water pump. read more
