The last time they performed this, some of the lugs were just hand tightened. When I checked today, they were not 130lbs again SAFETY CONCERN. Next, when I was checking the torque, I noticed one of the lugs did not match the others. It was a 13/16 and not a 7/8 like all of the other ones. Just great, it had I gotten a flat tire in my truck, I would not have the appropriate socket to get the tire off and put the spare on. I called the store and talked to Joe, he said that they replace the lugs when they are rusty. Not a single one of my lugs has rust on it. I don't know why they would've switched it out. I hope the thread patterns are the same and not cross threaded now. Joe told me to come back into the store and he'll get me the correct size lug. Unfortunately, I can't do it today because that would be another hour round-trip. Had I had a flat tire, I would not have been able to get that tire off because I did not have that socket in my truck. I would've been stuck calling a tow truck. Staff are friendly and they always get me in right away. They need to work on their attention to detail. Peoples lives are at stake.

They seemed to do a good job meaning nothing was forgotten, broken, and I did not experience any…read moreleaks or collateral damage. It was also fast and they did put in the correct quantity of oil. Not sure what grade of oil or brand of oil filter they used. At about $120, it's very expensive. Clearly you are paying for convenience. As a former tribologist, mechanic and DIYer, I can do this job myself in 15 minutes for about $35-40 (using a group 3 / group 3 PAO blend "synthetic" like Mobile 1, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or similar), and an OEM filter which is my personal preference. I don't know what grade of "synthetic" they use. Many oils labeled "synthetic" are not group 4 / 5 based oils, ie PAOs or Esters - true synthetics. Most are made from group 3 base stocks - a highly refined, ultra clean petroleum. Having said that, as long as the API donut meets your engine's requirements, you are fine. I recommend changing the oil every 5,000 miles. Knock 20% off of that if your car is turbo charged or 4,000 miles. Obviously PAOs and Esters will give you better protection especially at the thermal extremes but come at a premium price. I'm positive these oil change shops do not use true synthetics because they are cost prohibitive and would eat their profit margin. Caveat emptor.

I was vacationing at Topsail Beach with my extended family the week of July 4th. Luck would have it my Mom's Lincoln Town Car's rear end air suspension system went out with the rear end of the vehicle almost touching the ground and not driveable. After calling several auto repair locations I was quoted some crazy pricing... Kelly's: $561, Lincoln Dealer:$875; another place: $1,100. My last call was to Black's. Brian couldn't have been nicer, more knowledgeable, or more honest. They quoted me $408 and was didn't hand it to me marking up the parts needed to complete the job. Not only did they receive the vehicle from the towing company, but performed the work the very next morniming. I drove my Mom down to pick up her car and Brian and team couldn't have been nicer and the car drives great. As a woman, this is the one place I feel comfortable enough taking my vehicle without my husband at my side. Their customer service is epic -- they even took the time to put my SUV up on the rack to visually show me and thoroughly explained WHY I needed the proposed work done to my vehicle prior to working on it....I feel like they always have my family's safety in mind-- and treat me like a real person. These guys are Awesome!!! I have a 95 Jeep Wrangler. They have been maintaining it for 4 years. I just turned 150k miles, and they tuned it up. Its running the best it ever has, last tune up was done when I lived in Virginia. I thought it was running great before, but it is as smooth as glass. Went in at 5pm with a nail in my tire. They were closing at 5.30pm. They were happy to squeeze my car in and get the car fixed even though they had other jobs they were also working on. $27 and I was back on the road. Nice honest people!!! read more

Adding updates to my original review from several years ago…read more 7/11/24: Want to reiterate that these guys TAKE CARE of loyal customers. They have bent over backwards for me several times when i have been in need. Also, from a year ago: Went to these guys for a full synthetic oil change on 5/23/23 -- their price was $30 cheaper than Jiffy Lube! Then, coincidentally, as I was leaving town at 1230 on 5/26 on 74, my steering wheel started shuddering whenever I steered toward the right at high speed. Immediately turned back to Grease Monkey. Alan accompanied me on a test drive all the way from Monkey Junction back onto 74 to troubleshoot, ordered two control arms on the spot, shoehorned me into their schedule and had me back on the road by 4:30PM. Incredible! Nicest, most respectful guys and so relieved to have found a dependable, trustworthy shop. I had no idea they did all sort of mechnica work!
