This is really a review of RadPower's test ride policies. I went to Rad Power in Ballard (Seattle) midweek, at 10:20 am, on a rainy day (so not a busy time). I wanted to test ride a bike in the parking lot. First, they ask you to fill out (digitally) a waiver for the test ride. However, this form is not simply a waiver, as it collects a lot of information that goes beyond what is needed for a waiver - phone number, email address, and various other bits of information (how you heard about Rad Power, etc.). My personal contact information is private - requiring it in a waiver is inappropriate. My personal data has value. and I don't appreciate being expected to give it away for free, simply to test ride a bike that costs over $1,000. Rad Power's website encourages people to come in for test rides, but their web page says nothing about a drivers license being required to do a test ride. If that is a requirement, it needs to be made really obvious, at the top of that page. Rad Power insisted on a drivers license in order to do the test ride. While I can understand they're trying to protect themselves against theft, the reality is it doesn't (as any 19 year old can tell you, it's easy and cheap to get fake IDs). I never hand over (or allow to be scanned) my drivers license to any business, because that increases one's risk of identity theft. My car was parked right in front of the bikes they have sitting outside for test rides. I asked whether I could simply give them my keys - they saw me drive up; I could show the keys were for the car. A supervisor also said a passport couldn't be used (passport numbers in the US aren't usually linked to one's financial identity the way drivers licenses are (so using a passport would have been far safer than a drivers license), and they also provide less personal information - in text, readable to anyone, plus businesses aren't likely to be able to access info contained in the chip in the passport, they way they can with drivers licenses). But the real problem is the degree of inflexibility I encountered. Rad Power also needs to change their waiver and only require the minimal information that should be in a waiver, i.e., name and signature. Someone's desire to test out a bike shouldn't entail giving away (for free) unnecessary personal data. If theft is such a concern to Rad Power, then they should look into fencing in their parking area so people could at least test ride the bikes in a contained area, without putting themselves at risk of identity theft. So, I didn't do a test ride. A Rad Power bike is simply not worth the risk of identity theft. I'll look at other companies instead. I don't live in Seattle, and went out of my way to get to the Ballard location to do the test ride - had their policy been clearly and obviously posted on their web site, I wouldn't have bothered. They're a fairly young company, and need to re-think some of their policies. I know they've grown quickly, and that growth hasn't been without problems (read the other reviews here). Despite my experience, I'm hoping they can smooth things out and address some of the problems, and re-think some of their policies. Keep in mind, asking people to pay over $1000 and close to $2000 for a bike is asking a lot of people - and if your product has problems, and you're not able to provide good customer service - eventually, that will negatively impact your business. read more

This review is not of the bike itself but of the COMPANY. We purchased a RadRunner utility bike and it arrived with scratches and dents all over the bike. Clear to the eye that this were not caused by the shipping, which meant the bike LEFT the facility in this condition. Had I wanted a used looking bike I would have purchased one for less money. After calls and back and forth emails (with Andre at customer service) the best they could offer me for my inconvenience was to refund me the cost of the paint (they know a store wouldn't do the job), which also meant i had to pain the bike myself. I asked for a minimal refund for the inconvenience but they did not accept this. Just as bad as shipping a damaged bike for the cost of a new bike is the fact that they DELETED my review in the website (like this one). I purchased 2 ebikes a 2019 Rad Rover 5 for myself and a 2019 Rad Mini Step Thru for my wife. I got the Rad Rover in about 4 weeks. The Step Thru was on back order and was due 4 weeks after the first bike. Well it was late by 2 weeks but Rad gave us a $100.00 credit for it being late. Now for the bikes themselves they are assume, both of them. They are not built cheap. They are built very sturdy. These bikes are tanks! My wife and I are in our mid sixties but we are very active! We have taken our bikes out on various types of trials, gravel, paved, dirt. Our average ride is 15 miles some up to 25 miles. We are peddling most all of the time. My wife carries our small morkie dog in a carrier on her bike, while I pull our 40 pound spaniel in a dog pull behind. These bikes are the best. I have had one total knee replacement, from serving in the military, and my other knee is bad. These bikes allow me to get out and exercise outdoors with everyone else. I have had no problems with my bikes. They we're packaged very well, and assembly was easy. If you haven't ordered a Rad power bike yet don't wait. They are worth it and then some! read more

This year I was looking to bike to work over the warmer months and wanted an e-bike that would help me get in without working up too much of a sweat. After doing a lot of research, I ordered my 2019 Rad City from here in St. Paul, MN and it arrived in about a week via FedEx Ground (on a Saturday--a welcome surprise!). The box was slightly damaged in transit but the bike was well shielded by the foam packaging and there was no damage to the contents. Assembly took me about 40-50 min. going very slowly and reviewing all the details in their videos and manuals. In brief, I love this bike!! Not sure the Yelp community seems to have lower ratings than in other forums where they get ~5 stars but I'm happy to share that my experience has been great all around. Service-wise, Rad Power politely answered and resolved all my questions within 1 day of emailing them. The bike is hefty and solid--built like a little tank and quite a change from my old Trek road bike. Button controls are intuitive and you just have to memorize a couple of double button presses for certain features, such as turning on/off the integrated head/tail lights. When I hop on board on PAS 3 and start pedalling, it feels like cruise control on a car and you can really zip around at 20+ mph. My commute to work used to be about 40 min and this bike shaved it down to 30 min, probably because I pedal hard with the motor assist and save time going up hills. Hardly ever go above PAS 3; I didn't notice much difference actually in stepping up to 4 or 5, probably because the bike automatically tapers off the power when you approach max. speed (which I bumped up to about 24 mph from the default 20 mph.. shh). The functionality of this machine is beyond any bike I've owned. Great built-in features include the integrated lights, including the brake-activated taillights, fenders, and rear bike rack, which is really beefy and can accommodate a lot of cargo. The Rad Power folks are continually improving their bike design through model updates. A lot of these improvements (even little stuff like increasing power to their USB charging port) come from customer feedback and this level of refinement shows in the product I received. I went into the shop at about 10:30am and was promptly helped. I've did a fair bit of research before I came into the store and figured I'd probably be grabbing an entry level bike here. Colin walked up to help immediately as I stepped through the door, and handed me off to Noah for a few test rides. I got to check out the RadRunner, RadRunner Plus, and the Rad City 5 Plus. Noah was able to provide clear pros and cons with each bike and gave clear instructions on how it worked and where I take the bike up a pretty significant hill. When I came back, Colin was there to help me with the final selection and walked me through some accessory purchases with good recommendations. At no point did I feel pressured to buy anything in particular. I wound up picking up a City 5 plus with a few extra accessories. The seat was an in-shop installation for $10, which let me ride it out the door after about 30 minutes for installation. Noah and Colin both offered superb customer service. I didn't experience any negativity nor did I ever feel ignored. In fact, while I was waiting for the bike to be pulled from the back, I counted 3 other employees who confirmed that I didn't need assistance -- and it was a pretty busy day. Don't give your money to this company. We ordered our bikes almost two months ago, paid over four thousand dollars for them and our ship date came and went with no word from Rad. I had to track them down to get an idea of when we would be receiving our bikes and they have no idea. Talked with multiple reps and no one could tell me when we would receive our bikes, they actually each gave me a different time frame which leads me to believe they are just throwing a date out there to satisfy me for the time being. Feeling super frustrated and out $4500 and no bikes for the summer. I am sure the actual bike is great but the customer service sucks. Even though they were busy it only took about 20 minutes to get out on a test drive cause you got to fill out a detes and release form, pay a refundable fee, get fitted for a helmet and get a quick tutorial on operation of the bike...and your off. You like you buy...I bought a Rad Rover. Six months after I got my bike I had my electrics burn...literally...burn up and a sensor in the motor failed, so, I contacted customer service and I got everything taken care of (replaced) with no problem and they were ever so friendly,too, helping me. Ordered my first RadRover six High step in June. Got a great price on it. It arrived on schedule, but had the front wheel damaged in shipping. Called RadPower and Gil handled the matter like a pro. After sending a few pics of the damage he immediately sent out a new wheel. I rode the bike a few times around the block and loved it, but had trouble getting on and off (I'm short and old). I thought I would sell it and order a step thru. When I called to order the step thru I got Crystal who informed me I could return the step over for a full refund. I was amazed. I have posted, revised, then reposted reviews of Rad Power bikes. Why? Every gone out on a date with the most beautiful girl or handsome guy, really liked them, but discovered serious flaws in their character? This is what's happened to me and my relationship to my Rad Runner 6 Plus - now sitting in my garage because of a damaged battery. I like the look and feel of the bike. Its braze-ons allow for cool racks and baskets and it's comfortable enough to ride. It's range and speed are lacking - but they're listed on the website. Oh, and the brakes screech like a pack of wounded wolves. What's really-really screwy about this company is their idea of Customer Support. Rad Power Customer Support is to the Rad Rover 6 Plus as halitosis is to a beautiful woman. You love to look but you don't want to go near her. The Rad culture reminds me of the petty Socialists who for the time being control our town. They make life impossible. Exp: I discovered on the first ride that that gear shifter was not working - you slide the lever but the derailleur does not move the chain. I telephoned Rad Support for assistance i.e. to request a mobile mechanic visit to adjust the problem. The agent I spoke with said I needed to 'document' the issue with photos of the bike, a copy of the sales receipt, a photo of the odometer showing mileage, and my last three years dental records! Seriously, except for the dental records I would have to go to work collecting this information - and if that was not enough I was asked to shoot a video of the malfunction. I'm pretty coordinated but I'm not a member of circus act. I can't ride a bike, hold the handle bar with one hand, a smartphone with the other then shift with the other. Why? Because I don't have three hands. I said how about sending a mechanic out to service the shifter then getting all the info you need from his report? You don't pay me enough to get all that information together. Then, there's the battery. The little round charge port is about an inch away from the little round lock port on the left side of the down tube. After having the bike for about two weeks I reached over the top tube to unlock the battery and stuck the key into the charge port. Zap! There as a spark. Then, the battery would turn on but not charge! That meant a short! Last years battery had an accessible fuse box. If the battery shorted the fuses could be replaced. This years 'improved' battery's fuses are inaccessible. Thus, when I reported the problem to Rad they said the battery must be scrapped. That is not a very sustainable design for a 'sustainable' company. I'd love to keep my Rad Rover but the Rad people have to do something about their halitosis!!!! read more

We have purchased two Rad bikes over the last month and here is my experience. I purchased the Rad Runner 1 for my wife's anniversary present. Took some time to assemble, the video makes it look super easy, it's Ok. Then the bike stopped taking a charge. We were planning on taking it on a weekend vacation to ride bikes and we were not able to. Called Rad Bikes and they let us know the fuse needed to be replaced. So, I went to the auto parts store and bought the fuses. Looked at the video they sent me, and tried to take off the battery cover part to replace the fuse. It wouldn't budge although the video made it look really easy. Called Rad Power bikes and they told me to take it to a bike shop. Really? Cut out the bike shop on the sale of the bike, then take it to them for service. That's nor Rad, that is Sad. Eventually ripped the cover off and got the bike working again. Good quality bike, questionable service. Then, I got a notice that the RadRover 5 was in stock. I had been waiting for this one and ordered it planning on using it for some trail rides. Brake rotor was bent, but managed to put it all together. Again, not as easy as guy in video explains. Bike is super heavy and does not have the pick up of the Rad Rover. Decided to return the bike and called Rad. They verified that I was under 10 miles riddent, w/in 14 days, etc. and requested that I send them pictures. I sent them the pictures and have heard nothing back. I have cancelled the order on my credit card and the bike is sitting in my garage waiting for them to come and get it. Overall a quality product, but a real pain the ass to deal with Rad and their business model. read more

I was very interested in purchasing a Rad power bike and arrived at their show rooms yesterday. I should state that I am 75 years old, and it had been several years since I had last ridden a bike. I was a bit put off when I arrived as parking was impossible, and when I went into the showroom, I was initially ignored which I find tends to happen to people my age. I finally did get someone to help me and went through an EXCEPTIONALLY long electronic waiver. The woman who helped me test the various bikes was wonderful (long dark red hair). I ended up almost buying a Rad step through electric commuter bike and really liked it. However, I decided to wait a day to make up my decision. I did ask if there was a return policy and told that there was not one without a restocking fee, I later found that according to the web site there is a 14-day return policy. After speaking with some experts, I was told that I needed to be sure that the bike was proper for my height (5'10"). I was also told that I should request that the bike be fitted, which entails putting the bike on a stand and sitting on it with my leg essentially straight when the pedal is at its lowest point. I went in today and was ready to buy the bike, however I was told that I again had to do the VERY long waiver even though I had filled one out less than 24 hours before. When I told the young female salesperson that I wanted it fitted, it was as if I had asked something that was unheard of. They scrounged around and finally came out with a stand which did support the bike while I sat in the seat, only to find that even at its highest extension the seat was way too short for my height. They told me that I could go to a third-party bike store, and purchase an extension or extra-long seat pole, which I am unwilling to do. The bike would have cost me with tax over $1700.00, and I am not about to go to a third party for an extension after paying that much money. Again, the salesperson seemed to think that my request was entirely unreasonable. I left my card with the salespeople telling them that I would love to purchase that bike and would have done so today had they been able to fit the bike to my height. Upon returning home, I did a bit of further checking and found out that The Seattle Better Business Bureau rates this company "F" and it is only given two stars out of five on their customer ratings. I also went to the web site to try and find an E-mail or snail mail address for the owner, Mike Radenbaugh. I could find neither, although there was some information about the company. I still would love to buy the bike that I saw from them if they could fit it for me, but I am not willing to go to a third party to provide services which they should do in house. read more

Joe R. It seem obvious that you do not know what Dave is doing in customer service. I ran customer service and was the Lead Technician for a manufacture for 10 year. We where known of the best customer service in the business. When customers called with a problem my number one rule was to try to let the customer know I was on their side. I would have them unplug and plug there device in. I would have them turn it off and on and have them check the fuse. That was about it. I would inquire if it was an intermittent. After that I would issue them and RMA. Your company does not work like this at all. You demand pictures and videos. Have test preformed that has nothing to do with the problem. Then instead of athorizing a return you ask for more tests. After the 2nd round of test, many of which have nothing to do with the issue. You ask for more tests, Then Dave says ok we have many more tests to do before I issue a return. This was a simple issue. An open circuit inside the battery. I finally gave up on your service and fixed the battery myself in about 10 minutes. It was a bad connection on the 4 amp fuse holder. Clearly a manufacture defect. Clearly an implied warranty issue. It was clear your customer service was doing everything in there power to avoid doing any customer service. Mine is far from the first complaint. There are scores more here in Yelp and on the BBB site which has given your company an "F" rating for terrible customer service. So you are looking at a RAD bike? OK. it is a bike. They are not like cars that when you first purchase you have to get a oil change in three months. Bikes need maintenance. Either learn or take it to a bike shop. I do both. I would look at every Youtube video on the bike. Good and bad things to look at. You are buying a $1500 electric bike that is great. You are buying it thru the mail. There will be problems. If you do not want problems get a $5,000 bike from a bike shop. Bike tires pop. Been riding my whole life and they still pop. Buy extra tubes now before you need them. I have a Cargo bike, love what it does. I purchased two milk crates and electric ties at Home Depot. It works great. What is your needs? If it is once a week for 5 miles to the store get a beach cruiser. Since my purchase I have ridden 4 times per week to work. 23 miles round trip. it was well worth the costs and time. My son put the bike together. He is a college student in engineering, and smart as can be and also loves to figure out things. I on the other hand can barely fix anything. If you are like me have your bike setup by a professional. I check all bolts religiously, not to hard. I keep my tires filled with air. After one month I am going to take it to a professional for a checkup and learn how to clean the chain. That's it. read more

I could not get it off and the bike expert at Velofix was also not able to get it off and he worked with Rad Power to have them send me out a replacement rear wheel. How the heck in today's computer/systems age can the items not be allocated and ship as one unit. Why must the the a set of screws and wheels be removed to add a fender, why can the factory not provide what you ordered, bike with fenders. Then waiting waiting, you have packages that arrived months before the bike to find out when you go to add the accessory there are missing screws. STILL WAITING FOR RESPONSE, NEVER MIND THE ACTUAL PARTS...probably take 2 months for that. Who ever is responsible for the operations side of the business had no idea how inventory/order replenishment systems work. Really it is not that difficult to take care of the customer. Rad works really hard and doing the opposite. No clue on customer service, responses are least a week in waiting. Please do not buy this bike unless you want to spend Hundreds of dollars a month maintaining it and fixing it. I bought this bike to commute to and from work and it can't handle going 20 miles a day. Disc brake need constant adjusting. Derailleur needs to be adjusted constantly also. The tubes and tires it comes with are not good enough to commute with. I have spent over $500 maintaining and fixing this bike and I have not even had it 2 month. Frame and hub seem fine but everything else sucks. read more

Telephone says to go to website, go to website and get email 4 days later, no one available to talk to to get help, it's been three weeks. I haven't been able to enjoy my bike. No one to call no one will call you. Finally had person who knows bikes, found the spring and ball bearing were loose in the caliper and the cable is frayed and kinked. Now how the heck am I going to get that replaced! So frustrating they need new owner contact! read more

This review is not for the store but for the company. I have had a Rad City for 2+ years and I absolutely ADORE it. The first year I had a couple of issues and had a great response and support to get them solved. This year, not so much. I think the company has grown but their support has not. I have waited an hour to get support by phone, and over a week for a zendesk email to be returned, and also been dismissed with what turned out to be incorrect information and the wrong parts. For me, this has meant a summer of no biking so far,:( which is supper sad and means more gas guzzling. I wish companies would think about service before sales and profits. read more

We ordered 2 radrovers in August. One arrived in September and the other was scheduled for October but has now been pushed to November. Customer service offers nothing but passive apologies. I've owned a Rad Rover for 3 years, and other than replacing tires and adjusting brakes I've not had a problem. After nearly 3,000 miles on the speedometer, I decided to have it serviced. I'm in Northern California. The contracted mobile service is not available. I messaged for a referral to a bike shop which Rad Power Bikes offers to do. A day later, I got an automated reply that the company was behind in responding. A week later came the same automated response. Today, a month later, came the same response. I tried to call and they are closed for Earth Day. I give up. Rad Power may have the No. 1 ebike brand but they are competing as bottom feeders for customer service. I just bought my radrover and haven't even got it out of the box. So I can't review the bike yet. Had to wait a month to get but OK! My issue is that I'm trying to buy accessories and everything I want I can't get. I contacted customer service and they told me to sign up for the news letter and that will tell when I can get them. Haven't received a news letter yet but maybe it comes out once a month I don't know Seems like a crazy way to do business but I guess everyone's got their thing. So Its been over a week since we received our Rad power bike and I still can't tell you how it rides seeing as it arrived damaged and we are still waiting for the part for US to fix it. They couldn't even send the part express fedex. LOL. I have to say we spent a lot of money buying all the gadgets and such and to take three days to even respond with an answer as far as returns or exchange , which they don't do by the way, was just bad business. I mean the fact that it arrived damaged you would think that they would be on it, and replace with a working bike not expect us to fix it ourselves after giving the run around with long phone holds. So basically I paid 1400$ for a damaged bike WTF?!? Some birthday present for my husband . Sooooo I would think twice about Radbikes especially if you live out of state. NOT SO RAD. read more

I purchased two rad fat tire bikes approximately one month ago. Bikes came packaged well and seemed to be well built. Assembled 1st bike with no issues and all parts needed to assemble were there. Assembled 1st quite smoothly and after charging drive bike with no issues. Next while unpacking second bike began thinking about how well things went assembling 1st and was very hopeful 2nd would go just as well with no issues. Whilec assembling handle bars on 2nd bag containing screws only had 3 instead of 4 needed.stopped what I was doing and off to hardware store I went to replace screw. Next issue I encountered was rear brake caliper/ pads were closed shut and I could not mount wheel. Again after charging battery immediately after turning bike on got a error code 30 on display. Followed internet instructions checking all connections and again recieved error code 30. Contacted product support and was told problem could be easily fixed by replacing wiring harness. Waited approximately 1 week and replaced parts as instructed. Again error code 30 displayed. Contacted production support and assured again it would be easily fixed and now they would be sending a new display and remote. This was another week and e bike tech at bike shop notified me they had received the wrong part. Contacted product support again and now another week and just notified part was shipped and it would arrive in 3 to 5 days. Today is 12/21/21 and I purchased bikes to gift my two teen age grandkids. It will be close to a month and I am praying and hoping this gets resolved in time to gift . It appears there are some serious design, manufacturing, and engineering issues that need some process control. A little background with me, I spent approximately 20 years working in automotive ( toyota), aerospace, and defense mfg industries and these problems would be dealt with immediately. Product quality and safety were paramount this costs manufactures money in rework, returned product, and eventually poor sales. I hope Rad figures this out soon! read more
