Back in September I had you guys do some work on my bike. It was a fairly big job. You upgraded my 11 speed Ultegra Mechanical group set to 12 speed, Ultegra DI2, on my Orbea Orca. I've only dealt with this shop online, but the experience with them was superb. I ordered a fairly high value bicycle. First, Sean, Sales Manager, reached out to let me know they only had the floor model, he offered to either cancel the order or provide a discount. I took the discount and very much appreciated the upfront manner in which he handled this. Eagerly awaiting my new bike, UPS literally drops the ball, or the bike fell off the truck or something....who knows? Anyway, again, Sean was always a pleasure to work with and provided a refund immediately. I had to ultimately buy the bike somewhere else, there was a very specific bike I wanted, but I was super impressed by this shop. I only wish I had a shop this cool near me! Top tier for coffee and bikes! I recently moved up from SF with my dogma F and was looking around for an Italian campy friendly bike shop and found the one! Not to mention their coffee is top tier!! I bought a used set of Enve tubeless wheels that needed retaping. Enve specifies special tape and a new sort of valve. Online with shipping these tiny parts would have cost $64, at the least I was going to save that shipping. I called around to various seattle bike stores and no one had any in stock, intil I called Metier. While they didn't have new product in stock, Metier's mechanic dug around and found pair of half used rolls and some enve valves that he would sell me for $10. Excellent! We came in, parts were waiting at the register and... OMG the store is full of the most beautiful bicycles I've ever seen. Stuff from magazines. My wife and I walked around just admiring the paint and shapes for 20 minutes. I've not seen such an awesome display of bicycles since Klein in the early 90s. Way to go! I can't say that Metier will be able to hook you up with used shop supplies, but I am very pleased that they made the effort in my case. It's been a long while since a shop has shown me such courtesy. I'm certainly going to make an effort to buy from them in the future. I've had two interactions with the staff at Metier. The first time I wanted to buy a saddle, and had some options in mind. The sales person I was directed to deigned to squeeze me in between two appointments, and then rushed through our interactions, proceeded to not listen, talk over me, and condescend when I tried to ask questions. The second time I had Specialized send a small part to Metier, a standard option as Metier is an authorized Specialized dealer. The person at the counter had a hard time finding my package, and expressed their frustration by asking why I had chosen to have it shipped to them anyway. I'm a middle aged white guy with money to spend. I can't imagine what these interactions might have been if I'd been some other demographic. read more

Definitely an interesting spot. Was in here on a coworking sesh and had never even heard of it prior to that day. Looks cool on the outside and definitely fits in with the rest of the Cap Hill businesses. This place is literally a bike shop/bike classes/coffee shop/small bite joint? Oh, and you can get beer here, too. So I mean, there's a lot of stuff goin' on in here and you could have a myriad of reasons why you'd wanna come in. For me, it was because of the cafe side of things, but hey, I'd come back for a beer post-baby. I ended up getting a decaf vanilla latte. Latte art was pretty and the taste was dynamic - super good lattes served up here! I think my only gripe is how long it took to get said latte. The cashier was super apathetic from the get-go with me AND my coworker. Almost borderline rude, but I think it was true apathy. After ordering it was like 10-15 minutes til we got our drinks delivered to us at the bar and only a few people came in after us. They have a food menu that has a lot of healthier bites on it. Had I got food here, it would've been the Beecher's Grilled Cheese. Not sure I'll be back because I'm not the biggest biker/class taker, but... Who knows. read more

She does not acknowledge our greetings, has a perennial frown on her face. Maybe it is just us and then she proceeds to terrify two other patrons. She has an AirPod in their right ear all the time. Setting: (+5) Really love the venue, and having been here once was really looking forward to returning again. Coffee: (+4) It was actually decent; we need to get some writing done so the caffeine boost was welcome. Summary: ( 5*4/15 = 1.34) We must confess some partiality, primarily because last summer when we first visited, such a wonderful experience it was. We suspect it's the management now that's to blame. Today I had the intention of going to the bike store to look for a U-Lock for my commuter and also to have a coffee and send a few emails on my computer. I walked by this place and thought it would be great, I could do both at once. When I first walked in, I could already tell the vibe was very pretentious and rude. There was one table with a person working on their laptop, and another guy at the bar on a stool with a laptop. The employee behind the counter was talking to the person working on his laptop, it could have been another employee or a customer. While I stood there, looking generally lost, they proceeded to continue their conversation for another 5 minutes. After waiting and wandering aimlessly, I did find a U-Lock but it was not the right size that I wanted. Eventually employee A finally takes my order, I get my coffee, already regretting that I'd asked for it "for-here." (Good thing they messed that up and made it to-go). A different employee (I'll call employee B) appeared and I asked if there were any other tables, and they shrugged and dismissed me, saying no, there's just the one, which was occupied by the guy who had been having a conversation with employee A. Unclear if this was an employee or a customer. So I was like ok I'll just sit at the bar next to the other person there, even though I don't really like to sit on barstools. Then I go and ask employee B, even though I really don't want to talk to them because clearly my presence is an annoyance to them, if I could have the internet password. They tell me that there is no public wi-fi. I was confused because surely, since I am a customer that paid for a drink, I could now have access to the "customers-only" internet experience typical for coffee shops in the US. But no, this person didn't even make eye contact with me and couldn't be bothered to treat me like another human being and explain why I wouldn't be provided the internet password, even though there were already 2 people in there working on their laptops, who I SAW were connected to the internet. Is it really such a strange request that a customer at a coffee shop would want to sit and work and enjoy the coffee while using the internet? Now after experiencing this dismissal and indifference, I didn't feel welcome. I no longer wanted to look for the correct size U-Lock, because that would require talking to an employee who really didn't care one bit about making me feel comfortable or interested in spending money there. I took my coffee and left. What a waste of time. I don't understand how this place could stay in business if their employees treat people so poorly. I am not new to the competitive cycling scene, I know how pretentious it can be. Wasn't expecting to feel it so intensely right away. Won't be going back. read more

This place is so unique and cool--it knocked my socks off. (Wait--was I wearing socks? Whatever.) Bear with me as this was my first visit. And although I love cycling, I'm not in the serious bike-scene in Seattle. But from what I could tell, Metier is like a health cafe-coffee shop-bike boutique-repair shop-gym mash-up. Phew... that was a mouth-full. Normally when I pop into hybrid spots like this, it throws me off. Like, pick a damn direction and stick with it. But all these aspects of Metier tie together like it's wrapped with a perfect bow. Fuel up, fix yo shit, get your gear, train, connect with other cyclists... and do it all here! That's a pretty dope setup, you know? Now, from the perspective of someone who came to Metier to work and drink caffeinated bevs with my colleagues, it wasn't super ideal. The barista was so nice when she took my order. But it took about 20+ minutes to get my chai tea with almond milk. Wowza. I mean, I was working from there, and they were backed up. But still... We also chose to sit to at the counter, which I wouldn't do again if I came to work. There is no bar to rest your feet on, so the benches just dug into my legs, putting them to sleep. But there are PLENTY of tables around to sit at, so this isn't a complaint. Just a heads up for those looking to work from here. Outlets seemed plentiful and besides a few random beeps towards the end of our visit, it's a pleasant, chill work environment. As far as food and drink go, the food looked amazing. But I didn't get any... so I can't say much there. And the chai I got wasn't really amazing. But that's more of a judgment of the tea blend itself, vs something I would actually dock Metier stars for. But I can't wait to come back and try some food! read more

Bike shop, cafe and training space. Where in Seattle can you find a place that has all of that under one roof? Why at Metier Racing & Coffee, of course! The shop itself is spacious with good natural lighting. Upon entering, you'll notice a cafe area on your left and on the right, an area to shop for bike and fitness related gear. In addition to getting your grub on and shopping for that much needed foam roller, Metier also offers fitness classes. The group sessions are held in the back for the upper level, while the training area and locker rooms are right down the stairs. I have had the opportunity to try a few classes at Metier: GO Circuit Training: This is a small circuit training class where you will go over about 8 stations for 3 rounds. Such stations include redcore work (similar to TRX suspension training), medicine ball toss, battle ropes, jump ropes and weights. I got got a good workout out of that class. Vinyasa Yoga I feel like you can't go wrong with many vinyasa classes but I love that the instructor took the time to ask the class if there was anything they wanted to focus on for the session. I have been prone to being tight around the shoulders and upper back so this was much appreciated. I can see myself hanging out here often and will have to try their offerings at the cafe during my next visit. read more

I love Bike shops and always give them the benefit of the doubt. But I gotta knock this one for overcharging for simple parts. I noticed a double price tag, peeled back the top one to see the lower price they used to charge. A seven dollar price hike on a $13 item is ridiculous. Keep in mind you can pick this item up on at multiple locations on the internet for about $13 as well. So why the hike to $20? I love supporting a local bike shop and don't mind a small premium but come on guys. Sounds like you are just taking advantage of locals and your location. Metier is a cool place. When I walk inside, it sort of feels like a "resto-mod" of an older bike repair & cafe shop from early 20th century. Refinished/re-purposed deep, rich floors; air, lighter ceiling wood; exposed rafters, a giant slow, graceful spinning ceiling fan in back, lots of spacious natural light piercing the windows, and a great matte black/dark gray painted exterior. I've gotten a vegan waffle on occasion for weekend brunch snacking; usually just topped with some banana and a side of maple syrup. Simple pleasures in life. The toast is pretty decent for a snack portion. I think I've seen 1 vegan pastry or 2 in the case but their uncommon it seems. Also tried a tasty, hearty soup(?) for takeout. Vegan scale probably a 2/5. The lady up front is friendly and nice when it came to inquiring about eating preferences. read more

Great place: I wanted to rent a road bike and these guys were really accommodating. The bike was fantastic and the staff were super friendly and very knowledgable. Whether you live in Seattle or are visiting from out of town, if you enjoy road biking then I would recommend adding Metier to your list of places to visit and get a coffee or a bite to eat. read more

Derek was so pleasant and just authentically nice, and he cared, and was excited!  That dude did look familiar too but admittedly I don't keep up with the sport of cycling as much as I used to (he reminds me a bit of Voigt!)  Joseph was great too walking me through the bike, being willing to work with me in different parts, taking his time and not being pushy at all. Danielle also had a wonderful time and said how she wished Métier has an Olympia location! If you like receiving indifferent customer service, waiting two weeks while your bike sits around in a shop, getting an invoice that's higher than a quote, getting jerked around on the phone, having e-mail go unanswered and your bike getting damaged while it's in a shop's care, this is the shop for you. There isn't anything more off putting when trying to make a large purchase, than someone scoffing at your questions and just being blatantly rude. I loved this place! The concept is awesome with a bike shop, coffee cafe and training rooms. I came from out of town looking to buy a bike jersey. They had nothing! Oh they had some name brand stuff, but no store brand jerseys, shorts, socks, caps or gloves! It almost seemed like a hobby for a couple real rich people who like cycling. The nonchalant guy working the floor didn't offer any insight about when they may restock, offer to ship later when they restock, if the design would be the same. To spare others the confusion, I think this is first and foremost a bike shop and a coffee shop second. I quickly found that out once I tried placing an order for a Gibraltar. My request for that drink was met with a baffled look. Then the guy working the bar asks me "is that a drink"? Seeing as it would be useless to try to explain the drink, I just asked for a cortado instead. The barista said he knew that one, so I felt safe going with that alternative. Upon receiving my drink, the first thing I noticed was how extremely hot it was - the glass was even hot to the touch. So I knew something was off right then. I wouldn't say it was a bad drink, just not the way it usually comes when I order it. Maybe the best way to go is with their menu choices. They carry good roasters so that's a big plus, they'll be using quality stuff to make your drinks. If anything I was drawn to this place because of its aesthetic appeal. I liked the whole setup inside and the all black exterior gives it a really cool look. However, as a coffee shop it didn't live up to my expectations but it could be the total opposite as a bicycle shop. read more

I had been hearing some murmurs about Métier through the vegan grapevine for the past month or so. Yesterday, I finally had the pleasure of checking out the cafe. As has been stated in prior reviews, the cafe portion of Métier shares an open space with the bicycle shop. In a Saturday afternoon, the vibe was very mellow and friendly. On the menu, there were a variety of vegan-friendly sweet or savory waffles, smoothies, and sandwiches, in addition to your standard coffee shop drink options. Additionally, there was a pastry case with a surprising number of vegan (including gluten-free vegan) options which, according to the person at the counter, rotate frequently. I ordered the savory chickpea-tempeh salad without cheese, and got a piece of iced blueberry lemon bread, a soft pretzel, and a piece of pear/walnut pie to go. When the waffle arrived, it was warm, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and loaded with goodies. The chickpea-tempeh salad was mild with a good balance of flavors. I cleaned my plate- nary a crumb left behind, though I was starving by the time I got to Capitol Hill to eat. On a normal day, I could easily have split this waffle with a friend and have been satisfied. I look forward to trying the other vegan-friendly options on future trips. What I appreciate most is that Métier offers plant-based options that don't resort to using analogs for animal-based foods, favoring whole foods that are tasty in their own right. And the desserts (*ahem*, breakfast pastries) come in as a close second. read more

Pretty cool space. It's a coffee shop, with a full bar...inside a bike shop...that has a gym beneath it but they don't call it a gym and they don't sell bikes. So, let me try again, I think they fix bikes (and sell merchandise at the same time- serious bikers' clothing- all the tight clothes) and also promote some kind of fitness on the bottom floor, all the while, they have a coffee bar, beer on tap and a full alcohol bar. All this in one space, yep. I just came here for coffee and to get some work done and it has a pretty cool vibe. The coffee was delicious (elm roaster's) and they have a few snacks/pastries, but not much. I don't think they sell any other food. It is just a bit loud when they are fixing bikes so it's not the best place to get work done. They also have a large screen projecting bike races and all that. Nice, big, clean restrooms. Good wifi. Bar has around 10 seats, and the space has around 8-10 tables. read more

The Homegrown inside this place is great! I had delicious turkey bacon sandwich and an iced coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the young woman in glasses. The selection is a little more limited than most Homegrowns, but they do well with what they have. The bike shop here seems pretty cool, I'll have to stop to look around next time I get a sandwich. read more

New "lifestyle" place offering coffee, bikes, yoga, and training stuff. Beautifully remodeled - worth a visit only to take a look. The friendly owners and staff were very welcoming when we stumbled in looking for an alternative to the yummy sugar rush at General Porpoise across the street. Coffee was very good; baked goods made inhouse were healthy and tasty, if maybe a bit small for the price (though that, too, fits the concept of health). Lots of bike gear and wood keep it feeling cozy even though the space is big enough to hold events. Apparently, they also serve brewskis. Not sure how that fits into the health dynamic. This street is turning into a foodie hub, and Metier has the potential to become a nice community gathering spot. read more

Pretty cool coffee shop but easily missed, look for a black building from the street. The latte i got here was pretty good. They don't have their own beans but they rotate through a couple different ones. On the wall they had Sightglass, Elm, Slate and Temple. They also have a selection of beer and some food. The space is a shared with a bicycle shop so you have people coming to get coffee and also to check out bikes. Metier has a really chill and relaxed atmosphere. They also have a gym and a yoga studio in the store as well but I only saw those areas briefly. The gym membership is $$$$. This place is really active, people are constantly coming and going. I don't think this would be the best location if you are looking to study/work but if you are looking to meet a friend for a cup of coffee or a beer you should definitely check this place out. read more

Metier Racing & Coffee is the coffee shop/healthy food restaurant/bike shop/gym of my dreams. I'd probably move up from Portland just to visit this place more often. I want to live the Metier Racing & Coffee Lifestyle. I've only visited once, but damn was my interest piqued. The space itself is so beautiful, with gorgeous woods and excellent natural light. It's all very spacious and the different elements work together quite well. After I bought my coffee I just browsed the bike shop and poked my nose around their workout areas. They were playing some great music, too. Any spot that plays EL VY gets a high five in my book! My beverage was a sparking cold brew, and it was delicious! I'd actually had some surprisingly bad luck with coffee throughout this entire trip to Seattle, and this drink from Metier reaffirmed for me that Seattle earns their position as a coffee capital. They're still no Portland, but... Seriously. This space is lovely. I adore this business and hope that I can return to try out their food menu and maybe even get in a workout. read more

Placed an online order two weeks ago for a store pickup and I went to the store on Saturday 2 days before I said that I could make it to pickup the order. The fellow at the front desk fumbled through a few plastic bins and he could not find the order and asked me to call back...he didn't offer to call...whatever. I called on Monday and left a message, as well as left an email. Neither was returned. I finally reached someone on the phone on Thursday and they said that the online "person" was at lunch and that he would call me. He didn't. I called again on Thursday they promised to call back and they didn't. I left an email as well and of course it wasn't returned. On Friday I received an email that my order was canceled with no explanation and supposedly my credit card charge was returned. You can bet that I'll check based on this experience. Definitely my last trip to this store and as it's in my neighborhood, what a shame. Perhaps too elitist in selling expensive bikes, kit and personal training to pay attention to online orders? To start, beautiful and well designed space. Cordial without being sickening sweet employees. Coffee good, smoothies standard. I assume the waffles are amazing because my breakfast bowl was straight from heaven. I worry about portion sizes at cute cafes like Metier...but they DELIVERED. I got the rice and eggs bowl, added avocado and ham since I was feeling crazy. Came out piping hot and looking so nice for the gram. Portion was huge, everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. Great service. Their food and coffee however was OK. The kimchi fried rice was too sour to eat, like it hadn't been fermented long enough. I took it home so I can tweak with some fish sauce. The waffle we ordered (Avocado Fried Egg) was fluffy and slightly crispy, but had almost no flavor. Maybe it needed more sauce or a dash of salt in the batter. Overpriced in my opinion, as I've had much better, elaborate waffles for much less than $11. Will have to come back to try a yoga class and one of their sweet waffles. read more

I came here for a tune up for my bike and that was good. I am new to Seattle and was looking for my local bike shop that I had in Chicago where you are treated like a friend...This is NOT that place. When I generally come to a bike shop I like the comradery especially being a female rider. They weren't rude but they weren't nice. They were able to do it quickly so I headed upstairs to get a plain tea...REALLY $4.00 for a TEA? SHUT up. I come from NYC and Chicago and a larger size is cheaper....dude it is tea. The coffee shop is pretentious as are the people who were hoarding the tables. You know the people who were hoarding the tables...they are all deep for the sake of being deep (not because they really are). These people are also the ones who are trying to find the meaning of life (theirs and everyone else)...give me a break. In New York we don't understand these people..they are the hipster bohemian types... I'll come here for minor issues for my bike but I would NEVER come here for more than that. Sorry. "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." My biggest mistake of today: I accidentally parked in front of this shop. What ensued from a 5-minute mistake was an employee from Metier chasing after me into the pizza shop next door to knock me down a peg in front of other customers and the cashier and then, for whatever reason, (after fast walking to my car to move, mind you) finding the SAME employee aggressively trying to get my mother in the passenger seat of my car to roll down her window to accost her the same way. That's the simple details. What you do not know is the hours before I made the critical mistake of accidentally parking here, I had just came out of a difficult 4-hour surgery (I am a veterinary nurse) which I then had to leave early to take my mother (the one you accosted) to the hospital because we have been undergoing a long battle with her health that has been putting strain on our family the past few weeks. I do not owe you these details but after the exhaustion and shambles I feel in today from my own struggles, I apologize for being drained and spaced out enough to park in your space for 5 minutes. I am sorry this caused you so much grief. My only advice is please remember we are all humans just trying to do our best. Next time, maybe be kinder. Next time, maybe fight the need to exercise power and aggressively accost people for small mistakes. I understand the establishment next door might be causing this repetitive problem for you. Metier's cafe is outstanding! From their super scrumptious waffles which come either sweet or savory, to their grilled sandwiches, to their grain bowls of awesome mixtures of super fresh ingredients. Everything is made fresh and is always a delight to eat. They have a great list of beers and cocktails too. I can't really say enough. Their service is always upbeat and the atmosphere is laid-back and cozy, plus there are BIKES and BIKERS always there. It's a special place that is different from anywhere else, a real need in Seattle as we loose more and more off-beat places to construction. Summer should be so fun there with their patio seating, their awesome fare, and a cold brew while watching the world go by.
