I enjoyed my experience with Gabrielle overall. I got a medium-to-long haircut with bangs for $70 (not including tip). Their model seems to be fitting the cut, wash, and styling all into about an hour, which is efficient. That said, the actual haircut itself only took around 15-20 minutes. For hair of my length with bangs, that felt noticeably shorter than what I've experienced at other salons. After styling, I like to double-check the length, and I noticed the sides weren't quite even. Gabrielle was very responsive and quickly fixed it when I pointed it out, which I appreciated. Overall it was a good experience, but I do think spending a bit more time on precision during the cut would make it even better, since the haircut itself is really the main reason I came in. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. I booked an appointment in advance, and they made sure to take my credit card to show how seriously they take appointments and cancellations. However, when I arrived on time after driving 40 minutes to get there, I was told I would have to wait even longer because they were running behind. I politely asked if they could offer any kind of discount or accommodation since they didn't honor my appointment time and I had made the long drive, but they didn't seem to care and offered nothing. If you expect customers to respect your scheduling policies, you should respect your customers' time as well. Taking someone's card to enforce your rules while not honoring your own schedule is unfair and unprofessional. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

My teenage daughter really needed a cut and we decided to give a place close to home a try, and I'm glad we did. I made an appointment for a curly below the shoulders cut with Tawny and she did not disappoint. My daughter felt immediately comfortable and Tawny worked her magic. He is so good with color and can do the most amazing things with different color combinations, from rainbow to natural tones. For me, he is always able to get my hair to the perfect silver and just perfectly even out my hair as it grows out and needs touching up or a new look, even working with me while I switched up the black and the silver into various combinations. He also immediately knew exactly how I wanted my hair styled, with extreme choppy layers even with the length of my hair, from the moment I asked him about it and he's done it for me ever since. My 20-year-old and 13-year-old daughters have each had consistently fantastic experiences here, at least five visits so far, and every time, the service and care have been exceptional. Tawny is a magician from heaven. New to San Diego and suffer sticker shock. Had been going to a local beauty school and while they did a good job with grey coverage, I wasn't getting the final product I was looking for with a provided inspiration picture. I bit the bullet and found Radar Salon was highly reviewed. Filled out the client intake and was scheduled with Tawny. Upon meeting she is so warm and welcoming. I don't know anything about hair, showed her some pics, shrugged my shoulders and she worked her magic! Also special to see stylists walking around and genuinely offering to help one another whether it was to get more color, blow dry or clean. Seems like an awesome group of tight knot stylists. 2 stars for the vibe of the salon and kind people. Disclaimer that this poor review has nothing to do with who they are as individuals! Just more so that I was very unhappy with my expensive $120 base price haircut from a level 4 stylist who I was reassured to have good hair cutting skills. I came to this salon and paid a higher price of $120 (+ $24 tip) for a haircut because I wanted to be certain that I'd get a great haircut from a level 4 stylist before some big events coming up in the following months. My hair has been botched and I'm so sad that all the time I took to grow my hair out has come to this. I asked for layers and curtain bangs, even showing an inspo picture. David sounded confident in his cutting skills so I trusted him 100%. By the end of the haircut, I couldn't tell how bad it was because it was curled and styled but once I got home and washed my hair again and blowdried, it was one of the worst haircuts I've ever received. Curtain bangs are completely uneven with the left side of my face having a short, horizontal cut (not even curtain) and my right side having that longer, diagonal cut (view photo). I say botched because I can't do anything about shorter hair except wait for it to grow out and now my hair falls very weird when I tie my hair, or it just looks very uneven due to the uneven length cut. As for my layers, it doesn't even look that layered. The length of my shortest layer is only about 0.5-1" shorter than my longest strand, which is nothing like the inspo pic I provided (inspo included in pics but not layers before getting it fixed). I was so devastated that my hair was ruined and that I'd have to spend even more to get it fixed. Again, the people here are nice but I would not come here again for a PRICEY haircut just to need to go to another stylist at a cheaper price to fix it to the way I want. read more

FIRST REVIEW OF THE NEW YEAR BABY!!! Happy 2023!! Starting off with a BANG!! I think I'm in love !!! My hair stylist, Heather did an amazing job with my new do! The color and style were perfect for New Years Eve! I didn't really have plans, but after my hair transformation I wanted to go out and show it off. LOL. That says a lot! Plenty of parking in the lot and street. It is in the heart of Mira Mesa and across LA Fitness. You can't miss it. It was NYE and not busy at all. The salon is spacious and bright. Everything was also well-maintained and clean. The staff were nice and welcoming from the get-go. They had complimentary water, coffee, and tea. I was able to easily book online. I was lucky to find a last minute opening. Heather was sweet and professional. She explained the process to me before, during and after. I loved her hair tips and suggestions. She really made me feel comfortable that I trusted her to work her magic. She really is knowledgeable and gave me some good recommendations regarding hair care. The caramel highlights turned out better than I thought. We used a mix of shades so it was personalized for me. I only did half my head and it was the perfect amount of color. Not too dark or light. The 3 hours flew by and I thoroughly felt relaxed and excited to see the end result. She also didn't upsell or try to get me to buy any products, but I ended up doing so since I loved it all and I wanted to better manage my hair. Pricing is also reasonable for the amount of time and attention to detail that was put in. I can tell every staff member enjoyed their jobs and were so positive and upbeat! The energy and vibe was wonderful to see. I trust Heather with my hair after just one session! Highly recommend her. You won't regret it! Go and treat yo'self! I sure did! New year, new do baby! I love Radar! I had my first experience there with Leishla and she was AMAZING. She is a trainee stylist with Radar but she definitely knows her stuff. I gave her ideas of what I wanted and she was able to discuss with me different options. I get some anxiety about going to salons due to previous bad experiences, but she was so thoughtful, communicative, and knowledgeable. She let me know some tips for my hair type and how to style it after as well as suggest different products. The final cut turned out so nice and I'm absolutely in love. I'll return next time to do some colouring for sure!!! In terms of the salon -- radar is super clean and has a great modern interior. The salon is sort of in a weird area, but once you look inside it's gorgeous and spotless! They play great music and the general vibe is just excellent. read more

I am not one to write a bad review and considered not doing so. However, this was my second time here and both haircuts have not been great. The first time it was passable and I excused it as I am genuinely not picky. I decided to give it another try because I liked the salon and convenience of it (my mistake) and the cut was incredibly uneven. I got home and noticed long pieces that were 1-2 inches longer than the rest of my hair (keep in mind this was supposed to be a blunt cut). I had to cut them myself. I snapped a quick picture of one of the pieces but wish I had taken a better picture. Everyone was incredibly nice and the salon itself is very clean but unfortunately, I am not happy with my haircut. I think part of the problem is that the stylist wanted to cut my hair dry. I am no hair expert but I think cutting it wet may prevent some of this. read more

I've been hopping around salons each year since I haven't quite found my favorite spot, but Radar may be the one I go back to from now on! I stumbled upon Radar on Yelp, and after reading a few reviews I decided to book an appointment. I wasn't sure who to choose as my stylist since it was my first time, so I looked on their Instagram and saw a few of their stylists' pages. Most people dabble in highlights or dyed hair, but I was just looking for a nice long layer cut. I ended up picking Tawny as I noticed she was just starting out and wanted to give some love to newcomers. Let's just say I was definitely happy with my choice! - PARKING - Small lot but not many active businesses, so parking is easy! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - There was a slight hiccup in booking, and I ended up being pushed back 30 minutes. They gave me a call 2 hours before my original appointment time, which isn't necessarily the biggest leeway of time, but luckily I had a slow work day and could flex my schedule. When I arrived, they offered water/tea/coffee, and had some candy jars in the waiting area. Really nice salon, tall ceilings, super brightly lit. Everything looked clean and upkept. I felt a sense of camaraderie amongst the stylists as they spoke with one another and with their respective clients, which always makes the experience a little more inviting. - EXPERIENCE - Although Tawny was held up with another client, she made sure to give me the rundown of what her plan was, which I appreciated given it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. Her assistant washed and blew dry my hair to get me ready for my cut, and even though my shirt did get wet from the wash, I was still in good spirits given Tawny's friendly attitude. Once she was ready to cut my hair, she made sure to ask me how I felt about the length and what she was doing each step of the way. I really appreciated this because I'm super attached to my hair, and in previous experiences I ended up with WAY shorter hair than I expected. Tawny took the time to slowly trim my hair to a length I was happy with. She's honestly a ball of sunshine and the conversations we had made me feel like I was just talking to a new friend. - OVERALL - Radar is definitely a big contender for my forever salon!
