I always pass by this place on my way to grocery shopping, but never had the chance to visit, my hair grew a little bit long, so I stopped by, saw the sign that said "by appointment only" so I was a bit concerned, it's already 3:30 PM. After I spoke with the lady at the reception, she said she could arrange my haircut when the other employee come back in about 30-40 mins, and I told her I would wait no problem, it seems the salon only has 3 employees who can cut hair, that explained about making appointment before you walk in, but they gave me an exception today as long as it was not busy, the other guy finished his client haircut and packing ready to leave already. Ms Trang Lieu the person who will cut my hair came back early, and she cut it in less than 10 minutes while still chatting with me and included washing my hair, she did a great job of cleaning me up nicely, so now I don't look like a bum anymore lol, $35 for haircut plus $10 tip, actually not bad, no gimmicks, I will definitely come back in a few months read more

Initially, I wasn't able to get an appointment because they were booked until next week, but someone kindly called me back to squeeze me in when there was a cancellation. Lena helped washed my hair, massaged my scalp, and treated my damaged hair gently for my trim. She helped condition and cut my ends, and styled them exactly how I liked it. This is the second time I came in for a hair perm and I am very happy and satisfied. The first time I visited was in 2022 and she was very honest when it came to my hair. She washed my hair and prior to the perm she recommended that I wait about 6 months due to my hair being too damaged. She could have ignored it and given me the perm anyways, but instead she chose to provide her honest opinion. That fact alone makes her a very credible and trustworthy stylist. The second visit for a perm was last month, January 2023, and her service was just as excellent as the first time. As you can see, we were able to do the perm and it turned out amazing! After doing some yelping, I decided to give this salon a try. I got my hair cut at Moga a few months ago & absolutely LOVED my overall cut & experience. Buuuuuut I'm one of those ppl who like to try new things & so I ended up making an appt here. I got an appt for the next day, which was great! And I needed to go to work afterwards, so 9AM was perfect for me. Based on the reviews here, I requested Cindy. I was a bit worried at first, because like Katrina L., I don't have the most manageable hair. It's wavy, unruly, thick & frizzy. Not very many stylists can deal with it successfully and not end up complaining about my uncharacteristically Asian hair or hurting their wrist from detangling & flat-ironing it. My mane needs to be TAMED, you get me?! Ok, so I exaggerate...but you get the point. Overall, it was alright & I'm happy with my cut. I'll probably come here again but my 1st experience was only so-so, hence the 3 stars. In short, I was burned by the flat iron, didn't get a shampoo, & didn't get my requested stylist...But here's the good stuff first: ONE STAR- MY HAIRCUT I showed the hairdresser (Linda) a few pictures of Theresa Fu. I love how gorgeous her hair looks, and the way her hair is layered, etc. I wanted her cut plus a V shaped back, which I thought would be fun. My cut turned out pretty similar to how I wanted it, except for the bangs were cut off a bit too short & when she asked me how it was, it was a bit too late to do anything about it. It's ok, nothing major, since my bangs will grow out to my desired length in a few wks anyway. She took the time to flat iron my hair so that it was SUPER STRAIGHT, SMOOTH & SLEEK, which was really nice. My unruly hair was tamed! Yay! ONE STAR- PRICE The last salon I went to charged about $60 for a cut whereas this one cost only $25 ($20 for short hair) & I have long hair. It was very reasonably priced but it is what you pay for. I didn't get a shampoo, which I thought was supposed to come at the beginning before you get your hair cut. So that was a bit weird, but I can't complain b/c like I said, it was a pretty good price. Oh, and for men, it's set at $15. ONE STAR- LOCKERS Instead of awkwardly looking for a place to set your purse when you're getting your hair cut, Muse provides these lockers at the entrance for your convenience. You can put your personal belongings in there & they give you the key to hold on to. I was being helped by Cindy for the first few minutes I was there, getting signed in, situating myself & putting my things in the locker, etc. but then all of a sudden, I was led to a seat and Linda started helping me. That was weird although Linda was nice. While she was straightening my bangs, I got BURNED by the straightening iron, which I'm sure was an accident, but it hurt! Since it was my bangs, the iron had touched my EYELID. There's not lasting mark or anything serious, but I couldn't be at ease at all after that. I was tense in my seat and was afraid I'd get burned again whilst she had that flat iron in her hand. She didn't even notice until I let out a squeal & immediately touched my finger to my eyelid. Imagine if my eye was OPEN! That is a scary thought. Anyway, as I mentioned, it was definitely an accident, but ouch! I think it kind of freaked me out b/c I wear hard contact lenses (which are made of plastic btw) so I'm kind of especially sensitive when anything hurts my "eye" area. A 360+ degree HOT flat iron is definitely one of those things... It was a tad bit unnerving that she suggested I get a magic straight perm on more than one occasion. Lol. Yes, that's when you know your hair is a beast. haha. Lastly, I was a bit put off by the fact that my hair got cut without a shampoo beforehand. I mean, I had washed my hair the night before, so it was clean, but since my hair wasn't straight, it was a bit awkward that she cut my hair while it wasn't wet...and it was still wavy. I think personally I would have preferred a shampoo first, but maybe that's just me. I think overall, I was satisfied with this salon & its services at this price, but my experience could have been better. Like I said, I'm happy with my cut, so I'd still recommend it. Yes. $20 haircuts. And mine came with a shampoo, blowdry and style. The stylists that were there were pleasant, middle-aged Korean women who know their stuff. I had Gina as my stylist, and I'm quite happy with the way she cut my hair. I've always had my hair in layers. I came in to get it trimmed and get some of the damage out. About five minutes into the session with Gina, I remembered I wanted a v-shape in the back with my layers. She said that's what she's thought of doing but since I didn't say anything, she'll just give me a plain ol' trim. But Gina gladly accommodated my request, and the result was more than satisfactory. She understood my needs - I don't have a lot of time in the morning for blow-drying and styling. I needed a cut that's wash-and-go, air-dried, but would still look good at the end of the day. Gina assured me that my cut would be all that, or was at least pretty low-maintenance. She also offered to put highlights in my hair for only $30, one of their specials for the month of April. I like this place, but I have to give it a star lower than it is. PERM: Okay, I got a perm. My hair is dyed brown (natural black). So when i came, I couldn't get Gina, from all the reviews she was really good. But with my work schedule it did not work. So Cindy, the owner permed my hair. Did it work? NO. The next day it went limp/dead straight. I wonder why it didn't work...and I guess because my hair was dyed they didn't want to put my hair under heat because it will turn dry. Well i called the next day and told them it was straight, came back and got another perm. This time I asked her to put me under the heat thing. She did it for like 10 minutes, I wanted more but she didn't think it would be good for my hair. No offense, but I came here for a PERM, not to get my hair straighten. I was disappointed because it didn't work the first time. Then the second time it did because we used smaller curls and a little heat. I knew I should just have waited for Gina. After being disappointed from getting my hair cut from a couple other places in convoy, I decided to try out a new place. Finally ! I found a place that cut my bangs the way I wanted. I picked up this card from Zion market that was advertising this place. $15 for a cut and $60 for a perm. Which is REALLY cheap for the cut I got. Usually Korean/Japanese hair salons will charge over 30 dollars just for a cut. But according to the lady, they just opened the salon in August. I think the prices will stay till September.. so HURRY UP and get there! I loooove my haircut from Muse. My bangs are perfect, not too short, not too long. My sister's perm turned out great too. I've been needing a haircut for a while. I cut my own bangs but have been letting my hair grow a little over 6 months and my split ends were getting ridiculous. It was time!! After a really bad haircut almost two years ago, I was really adamant about going to a salon, even for a 1 inch trim. You get attached to your long hair, ya know? Anyhoo, my sister, who also had a hair appointment at Muse finally talked me in. I can't remember the name of the lady that worked on me; I think it's Kia or Kai. After my hair was shampooed, I showed her a picture of what I wanted, which was sideswept bangs and long layers. I also wanted to keep my length, but was fine with a one inch trim. Honestly, I was really nervous during the whole session because she was going so FAST and I felt like my hair was just dropping to the floor. She styled my hair and used what seemed like 4 or 5 thinner round brushes to give my hair some curls, and I looooved it! It's been about a week since I went to Muse, and still happy with my hair. She really listened to everything I asked for. I would definitely come back again, and might even try their digital perm. For the haircut, I was charged $30 because of my long hair, which was almost at or already at my waist. For short hair, it is $15. Very reasonably priced, I think. read more

Best hair salon I've been to in SD :) Cindy was in charge of my hair, I got keratin treatment along with straightening perm. My hair is blonde (basically fried..) I had to beg her to help me with my hair. She gladly did a strand test n turns out my hair was pretty healthy!! While she was working on my hair, no one else was in the store except for the receptionist. Some ppl came in but had to leave cause she was the only one working at the time. Even though I was speaking in my broken Korean, she made sure that I was comfortable. We chatted for 4 hours, and wa-la!! My hair was done! To this day, I don't know if I was blessed nor cursed with deathly straight hair. I mean, it won't-even-keep-a-curl straight hair. No bounce. No volume. All the products in the world kept my hair with the volume I wanted. After being put through hell with just about all the colors of the rainbow, my hair had all the life sucked out of it and couldn't afford any more. Thus, I read an article about digital perms. In a nutshell--- its supposed to look like you curled your hair with a curling iron when you wake up in the morning, and even after you wash your hair. It is less toxic than regular perms, and was perfect for either fine hair like mine or even thick, coarse hair. (Heck yeah!) So I googled it and looked for a place in San Diego. I found Gina at Muse, who assured me she would do it exactly how I wanted. The whole process took about 2 hours total, and though I looked like I was having brain surgery performed on me, the outcome was pretty awesome. I love it and have gotten a lot of compliments on it. A lot of people have asked how I curl my hair, and now have been referred to Gina. This past weekend, I brought two of my cousins to get theirs done & I love how it turned out! The minus one star is for the language barrier. Gina is pretty fluent in English and is really good at explaining the process. Sure it's in an uninspired strip mall and the decor of the salon itself isn't flashy. I've been going to my local barber shop, Hair Force, for 7 years or so. My hairstyle has always been a simple buzz cut. After getting caught up in the K-POP hype train I wanted to try out alternative Asian hairstyles. I did request my hair done similar to Taeyang of Big Bang a while back and even though the barber did a nice cut, it wasn't Taeyang enough. After hearing good things from my sister and seeing a few guys coming in for a haircut I decided to give this place a try. I came in without an appointment at 9:40 AM and was able to get my hair cut by the owner, Cindy, in 10 minutes. I showed her a picture of Taeyang (which she recognized) and requested her to make my hairstyle be "meoli jjang" or "best hair". A woman of few words (mainly due to the fact she doesn't speak that much English and I don't speak Korean at all), Cindy finished cutting, washing and waxing my hair in 20 minutes. I'm really satisfied with how my Taeyang hairstyle turned out. Granted it's more expensive than my local barber shop ($15 to $9), but it's worth it. Definitely give this salon a try if you're a guy wanting to experiment with K-POP/J-POP hairstyles. What's next now that I got my Taeyang cut? Just like one of his songs, I need a girl. read more

There was definitely a miscommunication with my hairstylist. It was my first time going to Muse so I called and schedule and appointment. Let's just say that it was and wasn't a bad haircut. My hair was about down to the middle of my back. It was pretty long! It was the longest I've had it in 2 years because it takes a while to grow. I was pretty happy with my length and wanted to keep it long. All I asked for was a trim of about an inch and maybe add some layers. I also asked for her to slightly thin my hair out because my hair is pretty thick. Well let's just say that I lost half my length to my hair. I felt paralyzed sitting in that chair and couldn't say anything being so in shock. So I pretended to like it because there was nothing I could do. She did curl it, and it actually did look pretty cute. That's why I'm calling my haircut a good and bad haircut. I'm starting to think that she forgot was she was doing because she stopped halfway and started doing someone else's hair. She also let me know she would be changing me $30 instead of $25 because my hair was long. Didn't make any sense that she would up charge me because I walked in with clean hair and she didn't even need to wash my hair like most normal hair salons do. Called in around 3pm on a Tuesday to see if they were busy for a walk-in, they told me to come in around 5:30pm, which was fine with me. I've been here once before, maybe a couple years ago. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it, so decided to give them another try, Got there by 5:15pm, was told I'd need to wait another 15 min. When it was my turn, the one that spoke more English washed my hair, and then seated me with the hair stylist. She asked what I wanted, I said "layered, in a V shape, and you can cut off about 3 inches." She told me since my hair was long, I'd need to pay $30, instead of $25 (the sign outside said women's haircuts were $25). She barely spoke English, btw.. Eh, ok sure. You really get what you pay for. My hair is thick, and a little coarse, and she thinned it out so much.... Like the longest lower level of my hair barely has only so many strands.. I swear, these Asian hair stylists go crazy with those razor scissors!! And it's uneven. When she was done cutting it, she blow-dryed it, and had the more English speaking girl curl my hair, without even showing me the back. Ok, I'll let it slide. But then she started curling my hair without putting any kind of heat protectant product. And took for-everrr curling it. I wanted to take it out of her hands and do it myself. So I've gotten my haircut from here numerous times, mostly by Cindy and once by Gina the last time I went. Well Gina cut my hair for the second time today and I am never going back if Gina is cutting my hair again. I ALWAYS come in and ask for a sports cut, with a very high fade with spiky top. This is exactly what I told her last time and she did an excellent job and I was very excited that she was going to cut my hair again today. So today I went in and guess what I asked for! I asked for a sports cut, with a very high fade with spiky top. She then asks me what a sports cut is and I'm like WTF you gave me a sports cut last time. Then I told her Cindy always cuts my hair as a sports cut when I ask for it and she has no fucking idea what a sports cut is when that's what she gave me last time. So I explained how I wanted my hair and she had such a hard time understand what I meant so I just told her to cut my hair like I'm going to the army and she laughs and finally starts to cut my hair. I kept having to explain what I wanted the whole time because she didn't understand. I will go back to Muse hair salon with a few exceptions. No more korean ladies cutting my hair! I'm gonna ask for the japanese stylist from now on and hopefully I can come back with a better rating review, or else I will no longer associate myself with Muse hair salon. P.S. This salon is conveniently located next to my 24 hour fitness gym. i saw the special for the digital perm ... And having heard great things about this type of perm ... I had to try it. The workers could only speak Korean and very minimal English. However, I was able to convey that i wanted the digital perm. it was a long 3 hour process with stylist ***LISA SUN*** (although the hairdresser initially said 1-2 hours...But ended up helping other customers while my hair sat in the solution / hot rollers ) ... But for the price of beauty I was willing to be patient. Since it was my first time getting a perm my straight hair didn't take the perm. I went back to get it redone since my friends who had experience with perms said this is to be expected for people with super straight hair and first time perming and salons should know that a second treatment may be necessary. When i went back they pretended not to know me. When i showed the receipt of having it done recently , they said they started speaking to each other in korean loudly and later told me it looks fine. When I showed them my straight hair and few limp pieces that they claimed to be wavy, they said they cant redo it. This leaves me to question whether this salon was credentialed at all and if the stylists knew at all what they were doing. For all first time permers, do not come here. Your hair is tugged at, washed several times, neck hurts from laying back on uncomfortable sinks, and you will be hungry from not being able to eat. Because of the bad experiences i had from going to salon, i trim or color my hair by myself...and of course the result is not good. But when my friend suggested this to me I didn't hesitate to check it out plus i have read some good reviews from the customers... Last week i had an appointment with Cindy, she cut my hair and not only she did listen to my request, she did things that she knows best for me...I love it-it made me look young.. Would give no star if there is a choice. I had really long hair. I went in for a digital perm. The lady didn't say she couldn't do it until 3 hours into the process. She told me I had two choices, either have my hair all straight, or she has to cut my hair short... It was a painful experience. Also she told me to come back next week, maybe she could make my hair more curvy. I was in the middle of the process and I had no choice. It cost me 220 bucks to get what I didn't want. I love this place. Cindy is great. Her English is limited but I show her the hair cut picture that I wanted and she did a fantastic job each time. She takes time to cut your hair and make sure it's perfect. read more
