I brought in my 67 mustang fastback in, with a freshly rebuilt big block 428 engine, but older exhaust that was both too tight and so loud you could hear it for blocks away with the ancient glasspacks for mufflers. Craig did a beautiful job dropping in 2.5" custom exhaust front to back, custom bent to fit. Pass-through mufflers to take the painful edge off but not block flow, and give the motor a low rumble at idle and glorious low thunder when I hit the gas. When there wasn't room for the length of muffler I wanted he came up with a design that inlined glasspacks in front, working with the scarce space under the vintage body. When all done it was breathing better, pulling strong, and a delight to the ears without the headache. The biggest thing was that he was full of great advice, but worked with me to get the balance of performance and sound I wanted. I had walked away from other shops where I felt like I was fighting to get my car the way I wanted it. Never for a second here. They took meticulous care of my vintage car. This is going to be an odd review because the work they did on my car didn't work out and needed to be undone (long story), but I'm giving them five stars because they undid the work and gave a full refund without my even having to ask for it. I also think it's probably quite rare that they ever need to give a refund, because it took the lady a little while figure out how to do a refund on the credit card machine, and she said it might have been the first time she did that. Anyway: another measure of the quality of a business is what they do in the (hopefully rare) moments when things don't go as planned, and they clearly took responsibility and made it right. Im only giving 4 stars because I didn't have them perform a major service. However the customer service alone warrants 5 stars. I showed up at Rag Muffler by recommendation impromptu-style without an appointment. Randy, I believe was the tech working when I rolled up in my 1980 VW Caddy. I had a wicked rattle in my exhaust that I wanted checked out. As soon as I turned off the key and told him what I was looking for he had me start it back up to pull on the lift. Now granted I was the only customer but he was in the middle of working on a sick custom exhaust for a modified Mustang. He explored the underside of my truck and went over a few options, showing me weak points in my system. I decided to just fix the rattle so he immediately spot welded a new hanger and replaced a rubber bushing for only $30! I also asked for a quote on a custom exhaust of my own and he obliged me with a few affordable options. Randy, was attentive, knowledgeable and an all around nice guy. He fixed me up quick without hesitation. From one gear head to the next I can tell you he has extensive knowledge. I will definitely consider getting my pipes bent at Rag when the time comes! read more

Honestly I wouldn't take my truck to any other exhaust shop in town. They recently repaired a completely broken pipe at a flange for me on my Toyota Tacoma. They did it so fast and so clean. They do amazing work always very clean and professional. Very experienced staff, flat out those guys look like your uncles but they get it done. The automotive shop I work at doesn't do exhaust work, but when we have an exhaust issue we send it down to these guys. All these years I've been working in the automotive business I've never heard a single bad thing about these guys. This isn't the cut rate cheap shop where the guys are getting high in the back, this is the place you go get it done right and get it done well. read more

The exhaust pipe leading to the muffler on our auxiliary natural gas generator failed. Initially, I searched for a mobile muffler repair guy in the Portland area. Found none. Then I stumbled on Rag Muffler & Brake. Glad I did. Gary, I believe his name was, was incredibly nice, helpful and super competent. He talked me through the dis assembly process and then, after I brought the muffler into his shop, fabricated a new exhaust pipe that was very easy for me to reassemble. Called Rocky on Wednesday afternoon and explained that my exhaust was a little too loud for my needs. Brought in my 06 Trailblazer Thursday morning and was able to get under the rig to have a look while the guys went over my options. Went with a different aftermarket part then what I had. They explained how this muffler would work in comparison to something stock, how the sound would be affected, and the impact on my MPG. After I made a choice they got right to work. I was in and out in less than an hour. The work was done right and I'm stoked to say their work was exactly what I needed! In addition to installing a new muffler for a mere $125, the guys spent 45 minutes tracking down an elusive exhaust squeak that turned out to be a few loose bolts and didn't charge me anything for the trouble. The shop is clean and well organized, the waiting room is decent (though you probably won't have to wait long) and the quality of work was outstanding; clean, professional welds and quality parts. This is a great place to take your car for exhaust work. I brought in a Grand Marquis with a rotted out "kid" muffler set. They were able to very quickly and economically replace the system from the catalyst back, including custom bending new pipes to specifications. Saved substantial money off the chain muffler shop, and had better service. read more
