We went to Omaha for a weekend trip and, because of the online recommendations, decided to try Railcar for brunch. The restaurant itself is nice and the service was good! The restaurant decor makes you feel like you're at a train station. Unfortunately, if this restaurant were a train, the food would make you want to get off early. I ordered the smoked turkey melt and the mole-seasoned sweet potato tots. The sandwich, which is on a hoagie roll, comes with house smoked turkey, brie cheese, sliced apples, arugula, honey mustard, and bacon apple jam. I ordered mine without the arugula. It was greasy, like a heart attack on a roll. The sweet potato tots had the right amount of spice, but some of them were mushy. My husband ordered the salted caramel apple waffle. It has roasted fuji apples, salted caramel sauce, whipped cream, cinnamon, and streusel topping. The waffle was raw in some places, although it did have a good cinnamon flavor. If/when we go back to Omaha again, this is a place that we will not revisit. read more

Service Communication Food Valentine's Day...of course they are packed! No worries. They inform us the kitchen is behind and may be a slight wait for our reservation. No worries! Seated within 15 minutes so not bad at all. Place is packed. Tables that were seated after us have a server. Hmmm. About 10 minutes after being seated our server shows up. Very nice but hurried. The other tables were asked if it was their first time; talked about the menu for the evening etc. again, not a huge deal. Drinks were great..an old fashioned and a black Manhattan. I'm assuming it was a manager who came over and apologized for the delay in getting our dinners. Again, we let them know we were not in a hurry. We get the craziness of Valentine's Day. But let's get to the food...did they remove all the seasoning from the kitchen??? Our Brussels sprouts were undercooked and little to no flavor. The steaks had absolutely no seasoning and the mashed were like paste. We had to ask for salt and pepper. Why can't they just put it on the table? My prime rib was blood rare which I talked to the server about before I ordered and said I would like medium and he said they could. Oh and no horseradish sauce like it said on the menu. The saving grace was I had the French onion soup which was terrific. Like I said, knowing how crazy it is on Valentine's Day, we expected a wait. But after waiting quite a long time for our food, I think they could've made sure it was cooked and seasoned properly. read more

I had been to Railcar for weekend brunch before a couple times and was never blown away; it was good, but not extra... This last time really moved it to the great category though. We were sat in the bar area at a table to watch Nebraska basketball. Our server was the bartender and she was awesome. They have bottomless mimosas for $15, but I chose to just do a single. Since champagne is already sweet, I like minimal orange juice and the server happily explained that orange juice was on the side. The food came out in quickly--the Barbacoa Shakshuka tender and full of flavor and the waffles with salmon and goat cheese was a new experience. I look forward to returning! read more

Delicious!! Hubs had the Spinach Benedict and had an audible reaction. I had a breakfast sandwich. Bacon was delicious but the sausage was amazing! Clearly specially made. The hash browns and potato rounds were expertly flavored. Drinks were great too!! Service at the bar was exceptional! Unique setting and ambience. We came here to check out their happy hour. Martinis are poured short, but are made well. I like their wine options plus good 6 ounce pours. We started out with their meat and cheese board. That was really good. Three different kinds of cheese with meats. A yummy fig spread on bread was delicious. They also had a sprinkle of caramelized pecans and olives to make it look fancy! We loved it! I ordered their chicken Thai flatbread pizza that came loaded with toppings and had great flavor. Our bar server was friendly and attentive to be sure we were well taken care of. The service was attentive and the food was great. We came here for brunch on a Saturday morning and both ordered the croque madame. I would absolutely order it again. The sandwich itself was delicious with all of the components contributing to a great meal. The side of hash browns were unlike any hash browns I've had before and my only complaint is I happily would have eaten more of them. The only somewhat miss for me was the sparkling Pom cocktail. The food is good, although I found everything to be salty and everything had spice, so be warned if people in your party don't enjoy spicy food. Our service we found was slow, but she was enjoyable. It was quiet enough to easily have conversation though so that was nice! Pricey and mimosas aren't very alcoholic though so not my first choice for brunch. read more

Railcar has always been a go-to favorite of ours, and they have never let us down. Most recently, we took my husband's parents out to dinner, so I will use that for my review as the most recent experience. Our servers have always been great, and are attentive with refills on water or soda, and can recommend great beers and cocktails too. The ambiance is a little upscale, but not too stuffy. You can definitely wear dark jeans and a nice top and be fine. The prices are not astronomical for the quality and amount of food you get, which is such a nice change. On our most recent visit, we had three starters (some of our faves, and some new to us): -Brussels Sprouts: These were more on the savory side vs. the tangy and sweet side that some Brussels can have, but I love the savory type too, so these were a hit. -Fig Prosciutto Flatbread: This was new to me and SO good! It had some sweetness with the apple slices and fig jam, counterbalanced with the savoriness of the goat cheese and arugula. I love pairing sweet and savory, but maybe that's just me. This is a good sized appetizer too, so order it to share. -Helen's Caesar Salad: A perfect caesar with the exact right amount of dressing and cheese. I've had Caesers all over town and this is in the top. We had a few Entrees, and they're all fantastic and filling as well: -Bistro Medallions: This is one of my favorite entrees to order because the beef is so tender and the bordelaise sauce is super rich and creamy. The potatoes underneath are seasoned well too, making each bite excellent as you make it through your meal. -Seattle Barbecued Salmon: I love the seafood options at Railcar, and they've never steered me wrong. This was a new dish for me, and I loved the sear on the salmon, the light soy and molasses glaze that came with it, and the accompanying asparagus and potatoes underneath. It all worked so well together. -Asiago Crusted Chicken Schnitzel: My husband chose this, and it was a new one for him. It was a thinner piece of chicken, with a delicious mushroom cream sauce, and a green bean gremolata. Another dish that went extremely well with the paired potatoes (mashed, in this case). We were getting pretty full, but did take a few desserts to-go, so we could have them a little later at home: -Cronut Sundae: These actually came as little slices of cronut covered in granulated sugar, with both caramel and chocolate sauce for dipping. They were extremely tasty, and very easily shareable since they were already cut into slices. -Carrot Cake: This is my husband's favorite dessert, and it came as a little circular cake with cream cheese frosting and a maple-like drizzle on top. I think he prefers the more nutty style of carrot cake, but I liked this more smooth version. -Apple Pie: One word - YUM! This was almost like an apple fritter style, with ice cream that you put over it. And the cold ice cream with the hot apple pie made a magical mix in your mouth. I think the desserts may have been even better if we had eaten them in the restaurant and not at home out of takeout containers, but c'est la vie. We will be back many times and try things in different ways, so I don't regret trying them in that fashion. Railcar is a great option for a business lunch, date night, family dinner, or pretty much any occasion. You will always get quality food, a nice atmosphere, and great service - so you can't go wrong! read more

Decided to take a break from Christmas shopping today so stopped at Railcar for lunch. We have been here plenty of times for happy hour but never for lunch. Sat in the bar because that's what we like, service was quick from the bartender for our drink order, not too many people in the restaurant at 12:30 which I thought was kind of unusual. I had heard good things about their cuban sandwich so really wanted to try it. But after looking at the menu I couldn't help but not order the short rib grilled cheese sandwich. . My husband ordered the Cubano so figured we could share. Their version of the cuban sandwich is way different than expected, it literally looks like a philly cheesesteak sandwich rather than the pressed version we know. However it seems to work and he loved it. His sandwich came with fries and mine came with the most delicious homemade tomato soup. Both sandwiches were amazing, loaded with plenty of meat and portions enough that we each saved half of our meal to eat for dinner. I just love that Railcar can either feel fancy or casual, lunch or happy hour, but always consistently delivers good food and drinks. read more

Such great food!!! Service was amazing. Our daughter has a severe egg allergy, and they were so great about it. They had a card they filled out for the allergy and submitted it to the kitchen. It's hard sometimes to find places that take allergies seriously. My boyfriend got the steak and loved it, I got the chicken schnitzel and it was also delicious. Railcar is a good neighborhood restaurant with one lil negative: limited parking at times due to its popularity. A friend and I decided to check it out after a few years had passed for me. It was his first time dining there. Although years had passed, I recalled the personable hosts, waitstaff and menu. Seating consists of tables and booths. The very capable AnnMarie was our server this night. We began with pre-dinner drinks. I had the Crispy Apple sangria, which was good. He ordered the steak and frites entree(with shrimp/crab soup) while I ordered the Railcar mac. He said the steak temp was cooked to order and his meal was delicious. The mac has crispy Korean chicken, jalapeno sausage and pork belly. I prefer less cheese/sauce and chicken but more sausage. But I enjoyed it; it is filling. Recommended. read more

Tucked away in strip mall setting, you won't be expecting a dark cozy atmosphere that the resturant produces as soon as you walk through the doors. Dark wood, chill music and attentive staff make for an environment equivalent to a warm hug. Joshua (our server) was amazing. The Brussels Sprout is a must get appetizer. Paired with a tangy/tart Nebraska Sky cocktail...you're immediately in flavor heaven. The Short Ribs FEEL OFF THE BONE. The BBQ salmon was something wet dreams are made of. Railcar is always a solid choice! I came here for lunch with a small group and enjoyed the soup and salad with the bisque as my choice of soup and it was very good. There was not much meat in the bisque and the shrimp were itty bitty but it still had a pretty good flavor. I wish it was a little less sweet though. The house salad was very nice and fresh! Had a good amount of chicken as well. My boyfriend got the cubano with fries and it was very good! Wish it had a little more sauce but otherwise it was great and the fries were perfect! Has been a few years since I was at Railcar. No particular reason other than so many choices in West Omaha. Went with my wife and two friends, was looking forward to the rekindled experience. Was amazed that the dirty martini was $8 dollars on Happy Hour. The good was it tasted great, the bad was it was a small glass and not even filled half way. You know something was wrong when the bartender said he had to double check with his manager that the pour was correct! That means he knows it looked wrong and set the tone wrong! He said then that happy hour prices have happy hour pours! OMG!! Then why is it happy hour, just have the regular menu with a price for a small and normal! On the other hand, the waiter was very nice and the pizza and crab were good. Friend had the prime rib sandwich which I would get next time.The atmosphere was good as well. Having started a home/cottage bakery (facebook.com/CornerHouseTreats) , my autumn is very busy with baking and especially making chocolate truffles! Railcar is my favorite restaurant in town, so imagine my delight at their email promoting their Thanksgiving pick-up dinner! At a very reasonable price, they hooked us up with turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, Brussels sprouts (swapped out dessert which had nuts, allergy in the family), and a gravy to tie the whole thing together... yum! We picked it up the day before Thanksgiving as scheduled; it was well packed, the instructions were clear, and it was so easy to do! The ease of the holiday meal allowed me to focus on my baking for the upcoming holiday markets, with plenty of leftovers, making it a welcome, hopefully annual, new tradition! read more

We went for Mother's Day brunch today and I really can't say enough about how wonderful the food was. From the donut holes, to the amazing scrambled eggs, to the delicious baked hashbrowns, Nutella French toast, lemon ricotta pancake, all the food at our table was very well balanced, flavorful, seasoned perfectly. We dined here recently and I left overall disappointed. While we did get seated before our reservation time, we didn't receive much service until our reservation time. We ordered wine, and my white was noticeably less than my husbands red, and when I asked why she said they only do 5oz pours...it still didn't explain why my wine was smaller as white vs red. And for $10 a glass, I would absolutely recommend a bottle vs a glass. While they still have a check-in offer on their Yelp page, they do not honor it, which of course is always a bit of a let down. I ordered a soup and a salad. The French onion was way too cheesy and overly salty. The thai chicken salad it was very basic and didn't include a lot of meat. It was very wonton heavy. I was pretty unsatisfied, and feel like the level or service, on a relatively steady night was not what we were used to and has colored my over all experience here negatively. read more

Where do I even begin... our server was Chelsea. From the moment we walked through the door we felt the warmth and family atmosphere. Since this was our first time, Chelsea explained the entire menu and made fantastic recommendations. My dad and I had the steak and my mom had the halibut. The food was cooked with love. Steak grilled to perfection and the halibut was cooked perfectly. They have such a great signature cocktails. The strawberry lillet is my new favorite drink. This is a perfect family or date night. It's been a while since I've been to Rail car and they have made a lot of changes to the atmosphere! I didn't like the obstacle in the middle of the restaurant which always made it feel crammed to me. This is gone, and the interior all looks much more classy/boujee in my opinion! Great service as always. This was my first time trying this salad which I've heard people rave about and it is well worth the hype! I did modify it and LOVED the sweet onion vinaigrette as well as whatever sauce was on the steak. Plenty of flavor, yet a light salad that didn't make me feel bad as a work lunch option. The $24 for a steak salad is a bit pricy in my opinion, but I was impressed with every part of my experience at Railcar so I would say it is well worth it! read more

A hidden gem! It's located in a strip mall and doesn't look like much outside, but inside was bustling and beautiful. My favorite part was the fun menu! We shared three entrees, two appetizers, and ordered two kids meals. The Asiago chicken was a group favorite. It has a lot of great flavors between the pesto and the crusty Asiago chicken strips. The taters are real! And the green beans cooked perfectly. The pappardelle pasta dish was just ok. It's great for pasta lovers. Huge lovely noodles. We added chicken. I just wanted a little more flavor. I added a little pesto. We also had the birria tacos with mole fries. They were good! It comes with two very stuffed tacos. The meat is delicious. It also has a sweet pineapple salsa. The fries were ok. I'm not a big fry person but the kids liked them! Hey yelpers! Check in and get a really nice freebie. An appetizer! We shared the appetizer boar. Yes they gave it to me free! The board was delicious. A few cheeses, a few meats (including pork belly) and plenty for sharing. Olives, spicy almonds, the bread and jam and cheese were fantastic! It was a real treat! We also had cheese curds and they are top notch! Look, they do have friendly help and their food is way better than average. I like the joint. The strip mall thing is a turn off and there is not a patio of sorts.
