Shows how long it's been since I've been back to Rainbow Cafe. Yelp said it's on the East side of York Street. Nope, I said. It's on the west side of the street. So we'll just see who's right. Well I'll be. Yelp was right. Hmmm. It turns out 7 years ago it WAS on the west side but they closed and reopened across the street. Ok ok. Give one to Yelp. lol One of my all time favorite breakfast places. And just a block from where my mom use to live. We would always walk over and enjoy their great coffee and HUGE delicious breakfasts. (See pics) I'm so glad to see things haven't changed. Great service, amazing coffee and a line up of breakfasts and lunches that would be hard to beat anywhere else. The crepes are the lightest I've ever had and filled with sour cream pecans and berries, sprinkled with some powdered sugar, they're just "drop the mic" fabulous. And that California Omelette, holy cow. Absolutely huge. Packed full of avocados, zucchini, tomatoes, bacon and covered with Swiss cheese. Bring your best appetite for this one. The service is still as great as it ever was. Not once, not twice, but 3 times they filled my coffee cup. Even if it didn't need it. Meeting up with my cousins, we happened upon this restaurant in Elmhurst. Jen was our friendly gracious waitress. The place was busy being a late Sunday morning. I ordered the Greek omelette with hashbrowns and English muffin. I had asked for the hashbrowns, extra crispy, and had to send it back as it still was a little underdone. The omelette was OK, not a flavorful Greek flavoring as expected. My cousin got a fruit bowl on the side, which was large and generous with fresh fruit. My daughter got a Nashville chicken skillet. The food here is typical breakfast/lunch fare, but it is tasty. That happily made a modification to my Mother's meal and made a 1 egg omelet for her. It's unfortunate that a lot of their sandwiches are club size because I can't eat all that. But again, they were happy to serve me a two pcs bread sandwich which I really appreciated! My husband and I enjoyed breakfast here when we were in the Chicago area over the weekend. The area is super cute. The food was great and we were able to sit outside on a beautiful morning. It was clean and efficient. We didn't wait long for our food. Our server was friendly and competent. The only drawback was that it was a bit overpriced I felt. What a gem! Located in the heart of downtown Elmhurst the food is superb, the service is friendly and on point and the owner Nick seems to know the whole city that walks in his door. When I went here I ordered a cup of clam chowder and it had just the slightest hint of lemon which wow did it lighten up that soup. It was also hearty with chunks of potato and very very tasty. This was followed by the Grecian wrap which... take warm marinated chicken and combine it in a wrap with a Greek salad and you have this dish. The balance was succulent and really hit the spot. Otherwise the place is very clean and friendly. The clientele all wear average street clothes and there seem to be families that come too. I have a strong feeling this place is run on its regulars... and anyone to walk in that door and order will soon become a regular. This ones a gem. Service is quick and courteous. Love getting away on a Friday afternoon to hang out with my peeps.
