I will never return after having one of the owners get in my boyfriends face for taking photos during an open house. Never mind the fact that he had previously asked permission BEFORE taking photos, he was then asked to put the camera away, quite rudely and in front of other customers. It's not like we were taking tons of photos to try and copy someones technique, if anything the photos would have been free advertisement for their business. I spent quite a bit of money here when I first got into glass. Thy have very little supplies for flameworkers, and are over-priced. I will shop elsewhere even if it means I have to go out of town or mail order. I have never had a place treat us that badly and wish I never would have given them my business. I will never return which is unfortunate for someone (me!) who is obsessed with glass art. read more

Rip Off !!! They charged me $35 to cut a glass tube that had been broken. It took about 3 minutes to do this and then charged me $35. I had been quoted $8 by another company but their machine wasn't working. Sad , if you ever go there make sure you ask the price before you have them do any work for you. read more

I do not like the business practices here. I take photos of glass artists and events to build albums or articles. One owner and the artists involved all agreed to allow me to take photos. The female owner decided she didn't like it and had me stop taking photos. I've been to several events all around the US with all types or artists and have never had problems. This company doesn't seem to be customer centric. read more

I was looking so forward to this place as I live far way and have to drive a distance to get there. Due to my distance I called ahead to request if they had a certain type of glass the lady on the phone told me they did and that she would hold it for me. When I got all the way up there it was not the glass I asked for at all! She acted as if it was my fault and since she cut the glass in half insisted I pay for it. I would hope after the many years they claim to be in business that they would know their inventory! I will never drive that far to them again to get such poor service and then be told it was my fault. read more

Took my admin staff here for a full day of glass blowing as a team building event. It was a blast!!! Highly recommend to anyone. You get lots of detailed instructions, it is very hands on and you pick your design, colors, everything so it's a great sense of pride knowing you designed, colored and blew your own piece! I cannot say enough good things about Rainbow Glass. I recently took an Introduction to Glassblowing class there this weekend that I had booked via Learning Exchange. For an introductory class, it was very hands on for the entire 7 hours that our small group was there. The owner, Phil and his assistant Renee were both very informative and helpful. Even if the class cost me $120, there were no additional material fees, and I learned so much I will be thinking about the experience for weeks and months to come. read more

My parents ordered two custom pieces for their kitchen cabinets and were very pleased with the way they turned out! They were the only place in town that could do this specific design too. The shop is nice inside - lots of beautiful blown and stained glass. The owners are very nice people. It feels good to support a local mom and pop business! A great store with a good amount of glass available. I was able to find large pieces of a Spectrum glass which is no longer being made. Good glass is very hard to find these days but RAINBOW GLASS had everything I was searching for. It's definitely worth the 2-hour drive from me to go to this Sacramento shop. Our front door glass was broken by someone's shoulder and we couldn't find any one to fix our beautiful door with etched glass. However, Rainbow glass saved the day. It took about a week, but they came to my house removed the damaged pane and repacked it with hardwood. They fixed every piece of glass and it looks brand new. It was pricey but still cheaper than getting a whole new door. I would gladly play the same amount again. I will definitely call them again for all my glass needs. read more

Owners are incredibly rude, I don't know how they stay in business. As a "new customer" I won't go back and I wonder how those who are older customers who witness this rudeness stay. Very poor "teachers" (owners) who prefer to inflate egos over non-class subjects. They do not teach yet gave expectations of you knowing everything. Rainbow Glass restored the stained glass design on our concrete garden bench. The bench is fifteen years old and the weather caused a great deal of damage. They did a fantastic job and restored it to like new condition and in a very short time. read more

What a terrible business. First time we ordered a piece of glass it took almost three months to get it...always something. Husband sick, on vacation or some other bs excuse. Now we order over six weeks ago, never heard anything. Called today to follow up and now they are moving and will be at least another month out. Came over from Reno looking for glass supplies, had no idea where to go. I do now, rainbow glass is a all inclusive well stocked store. My husband is a novice and Hazel set him straight!!! She is a very knowledgeable , patient, and kind when it comes to advise. They had people in the work area which is incorporated within the supplies. Somehow my last review was removed, so here goes again. I asked for a bid for a job from Rainbow Glass for a project that I was doing in Sacramento, they bid the job, I paid (a rather large) deposit and they never gave me anything but excuses as to why they couldn't deliver. After countless phone calls and emails begging them to deliver I gave up and moved on and asked for my deposit back, keep in mind that they never even supplied samples, just took the deposit money and did nothing. It has now been 10 months and I am in the process of suing them. I am an artist with 2 kids under 3 years old, lest just say I'm not rolling in money and it takes a particular type of crook to defraud artists. I am not the type of guy to yelp about anything but I really feel it is important to warn everyone that these people are not honest and they do NOT deserve your business. read more

What a disappointment! I was excited to find a glass store in Sacramento. I don't use the glass for stained glass projects, instead I use it for mosaic. The staff was somewhat friendly when we first entered, but as soon as they found out that I wasn't interested in stained glass projects, we were treated like we were a nuisance. When asking her if she had any solid colored glass in brick red, she threw up her hands and gave a loud sigh and pointed at all the glass along the walls. Well, that was helpful. Then she let out another lough sigh and walked over to some glass along the back wall and pulls out a fire engine red piece. I told her that was way too bright and she put it back and walked away. She was more interested in chatting with the other people in the store, than to show us what she had available. Both my husband and I really wanted to leave, but we figured since we'd already driven all the way from Meadow Vista, we might as well buy something. We found one piece of glass and purchased that. NEVER again will I return to that store!!! read more

My 10 year old son and I did a class here on a Thursday night (tonight!). My son made a mosaic plate featuring a penguin and I made a flower! We had such a nice time and the instructors were so patient with us! Also, seeing that my kiddo is... well... A KIDDO... the owner sat down and explained the instructions to him personally and even demonstrated. I really appreciated the extra attention he gave him. Never again will I go to rainbow glass. I picked up some glass rods from here a few months ago. Phil helped me. Could not have been nicer. Charged me $1 a rod. I left happy. Called this morning asked if they had 96 clear rods in stock. Was told by the woman on the phone yes and they hung up. I thought it was rude and bad customer service but whatever I just want the glass. Drove 20 minutes to get there. Hazel (Phil's wife) shows me where the rods are. I pick out the rods and she goes to ring me up. Says that will be $3 a rod. I said $3 a rod for clear 96? Was in here six weeks ago and Phil charged me $1? Hazel says oh no he wouldn't have done that. I am sure I was looking at her like really?? She then says okay then how about $2 each? I am floored by this point but still really need this glass and say fine I will take them for $2 whatever. She adds the rods up and tells me will be $56. I asked can you humor me and put it on the scale right there? She puts the glass on the scale. It was just over two pounds. So they were going to charge me $56 (before tax) for basically 2 pounds of 96 clear glass? I said over $30 a pound for clear 96 is really high. Hazel says well you can order online but will pay shipping....What kind if a way is this to run a business? I will NEVER again go to rainbow glass. After rolling my eyes and ignoring Hazel for years today was the last straw. It is a shame because Phil is great-Hazel is beyond rude and is known to charge different prices than Phil. In the past I have gone in and if I see Phil will beeline to him ask him for what I need have a quick chat and leave happy. The last few times if I go in and see Hazel and no Phil I just turn around and leave rather than be treated like she is doing me a favor by taking my money. I hate to not support a local business but please save yourself time and money and order online. The price is clearly stated online not like the ever changing prices at rainbow .Where today went from $3 to $2 a rod simply because I said that's way too high and not what I was charged last time. In fact their prices changed in a matter of seconds. Went online after leaving Rainbow and ordered the same 96 clear rods for $14 a pound and they had a free shipping promotion and added some more things to my order spent over $250 online today that could have been spent locally if Hazel wasn't so rude and intent on robbing me blind. Also I went home and checked my receipt from last time and I was clearly charged $1 a rod for the same 96 rods in clear. Never again will I go to rainbow glass :( read more

I bought a Groupon deal for my daughter and I to do a glassblowing class here, and it was an awesome experience! They offer exactly the right amount of assistance - just enough to not let you screw up your project. :) You have your choice of project and color, and at first I thought the class size was a bit big (you will spend some time standing around), but actually, it was good to be able to watch other people doing their projects, and the owner is very knowledgeable about the history of glass making and slips in that info as people are working. My daughter made a blue-swirled vase which turned out GREAT, and I made a bowl in orangey-red hued swirls. I would love to go back again and try a different project. Highly recommended for a great glassblowing experience! read more

I began my stained glass journey here by taking their beginning stained glass class about 15 years ago and have successfully competed and sold my glass art because of Rainbow Glass. They have way more fun stuff to play and create with at Rainbow Glass than you could do in a lifetime, and they have always been extremely forthcoming with their knowledge and good will. Phil and Hazel know all there is to know about glass. They are super friendly and very helpful. I just took a glass fusion class last month, and Phil explained everything so well, it was easy. I'm addicted. I've gone back for 5 classes in a row with no intention of stopping. Please look at any negative reviews with skepticism. I've only been going here for a month, but this place feels like a second home. This is small business at it's finest. This couple works hard to cater to their customers. These guys are GREAT! I can't say enough great things. I've taken 2 fusing classes myself, my husband and mother have also taken one and my twin 9-year-olds have as well. I bought a class for my husband as a gift at full price for $150. I was told BY THE TEACHER OF THE ACTUAL CLASS as I stood int he store that there was no other fee for tools or materials for this particular class. It stated the same thing on their website. When my husband arrived for the class, a woman working there informed my husband, in the immediate presence of the teacher, that he would have to purchase his own tools. Another customer/attendee showed on her phone that Rainbow's own website said that materials and tools were supplied, to which she replied that she "didn't know why it said that", and insisted they needed to buy tools, at over $50 for 2 items. Only minutes later, they entered the class to find their work stations already set up WITH TOOLS and materials. The teacher never said a word about it. At the end of class they were also informed that they would be taking their pieces up to a certain point of completion, but that in order to shape them and have them finish fired they would need to return and pay a $25 studio fee to complete their pieces. So now, if you wanted to actually complete your pieces you would pay $225, not including the cost of bails to actually turn the fused glass pieces into "jewelry". When we went back today to pick up the pieces my husband made, he brought the tools back and was given a refund with no resistance by the same woman who initially told students they needed to buy their tools. My husband mentioned their website again, and she again said something about that "needing to be changed". He told her that the teacher had also told his wife tools would be provided, and she simply said, "Well, that doesn't matter now because you got your money back." My husband DID enjoy the class, and yes, we got our money back. I just wish that what was meant to have been an exciting gift for my sweetie hadn't turned into a situation where he felt tricked and up-sold. I love to support small business and especially artisans, but not when they are pulling stunts like that. We have also taken classes with Design With Fire and I would recommend them over Rainbow Glass.
