    Mugs!
    Jessica G.

Came here recently with my 3 year old in tow and they were extremely patient with us as we did our mini paint project for Father's Day gifts about a week and a half go. Was extremely pleased we got to pick up the week of Father's Day weekend. I hadn't made the expectation because I understand sometimes depending on how busy their schedule is with their oven - you might not be able to pick up for a couple weeks. The turn-around was very quick for us this time and I appreciated that!! I don't know if I would necessarily recommend to younger children like my son. But I think I would go back with my oldest son or even by myself as a little art outlet. You have to be patient with the process as you need to build up the layers of color for more vibrancy. It involves letting the colors dry between layers for optimal results. The colors start out muted but with glazing and firing in the kiln - they turn into vibrant beautiful pieces of work!

Before and after glazing. I'm really disappointed that the staff smudged the paint under the face.

My friend and I went to Alpha Fired Arts for a fun Saturday afternoon activity of painting pottery together. Unfortunately it was weird vibes from start to finish. First, they were almost completely out of their selection of bisque ceramics despite advertising having the "largest selection" so we were stuck picking random pieces we didn't really want. Second, I generally got unfriendly vibes from the staff but I can't articulate how and why. Third, their point of sale was down so they said they couldn't call us when our pieces were ready and instead we'd have to call to check ourselves, which just doesn't make sense because they had a paper with our phone numbers? Third, they messed up my piece! I put a little face on the dish I painted and they smudged the paint of the mouth. I know it was them who messed it up and not me because I took a photo of my piece right before I left. I am super disappointed because I was so excited about how good it turned out (I'm not very artistic). Their saving grace is the spinning wheel you can put your piece on while painting. I've never seen that at any of the other pottery painting studio I've been to and it is a game changer. Overall, I might try a different pottery painting place where that is their main business (I got the vibe that the pottery painting was a tertiary concern for Alpha behind their supplies and classes). However it's nice to have this type of creative indoor activity available in this neighborhood.

This review is long overdue. I was here last year, sometime in April-June. First timer. We enjoyed painting our mugs. The cashier/lady and gent at the front wasn't chirpy as we entered the front door. it doesn't matter to me. I paid for the service and my mug, just give me paint and help me set it. The price is pretty reasonable. Painting area is small but clean. It was filled that day, a Saturday. I wish we have arrived 3 hours earlier so we would have more time to think of exactly what we wanted on our mugs. But wait, I love my mug. So did my kid. Look at 'em, yes?

My son took their summer ceramic class and also their Thursday evening class. He loves it. He made so many things during the summer class I don't even know how they made any money. Both the teachers are very nice. My son was 7 over the summer and is 8 now. I totally recommend their kid classes. He made plates, bowls, a dog, a ceramic bird house, etc.

I came in during a weekday afternoon and was able to decompress. Their pottery item selection is pretty versatile and the employees are very helpful if you need any assistance. I love that they have a "stay as long as you want" policy and I was told you can also bring your item home and come back another time to finish if needed too. Most of the pottery items range from about $22+. Considering it is a women owned + local small business, I am all for supporting it. Would love if they begin to offer a stamp card or possibly a monthly membership/program!

Petroglyph Ceramic Lounge is located inside the Pavilions on Fair Oaks Blvd next to Piatti. We walked inside and it was pretty busy, but they had plenty of space and lots of seating. We put our names in and they told us it would be about an hour before we would be able to sit and paint - so we walked around and checked out all of the ceramic options available. They had so many cute options from bowls, to mugs, to piggy banks, to jewelry boxes to platters - I could go on and on! All ranging in different sizes and pricing! For the 4 of us, we decided on a cute set of Valentine's Day gnomes, a fairy jewelry box, a donut jewelry box and a big cafe mug. All paints, paintbrushes, stencils, etc. are included in the painting fee which is $15 per adult and $13 per child. Between the 4 of us and all of our choices, it was just shy of $200 so you're looking at roughly $50 a person which is a lot, but you also don't have a time limit on how long you can stay and with our party of 4, I think we were close to almost 2 hours. Once you are done painting, they will take your ceramic and it will go in the kiln during the week. You will need to come back on whatever day they tell you for pick up - for us, it is this Wednesday after 4pm. Overall, we had a great time at Petroglyph Ceramic Lounge! This is perfect for a birthday party, Sunday Funday or even a date night. We will absolutely be returning soon! I highly recommend making a reservation though if you can!

The worker was helpful and kind. So why 2 stars? We struggled to pick which item we wanted to paint. Not because there wasn't a lot of choices, there are, but because their prices are pretty high. We almost left to go to Hobby Lobby to buy something else to paint at home. We ended up staying and choosing a sunflower about the size of the palm of my hand for $14.00. A small "Love" word sign about 1" x 1" and it was $10.00, a leaf also the size of the palm of my hand for $9.00, and a 10" x 7" serving tray for $35.00. Plus the studio fee they also charge to sit and paint. Items we would have liked to paint where averaging around $45-$70.00. For a party of 4, we just cannot do that. My last concern with this studio is that when you paint your items they have you fill out the colors you use in the event they have to make any small corrections to your piece during firing process. At least that is what was told to us when we started. We did and at pick up, my tray had a sharp edge on the corner and when I asked how to fix that, they replied with that they would have to file it down, then I would have to repaint that section of the corner, then they would re-fire it and I'd have to come back to pick it up other day. Seems like that should have been something they could have done if they checked the pieces after firing. What was the point of writing down the colors I used if they are not going to quality control it? So that was beyond me and a bit of an inconvenience and dissatisfaction of quality.
