My boyfriend and I were visiting NOLA for Mardi Gras and his birthday. Our Airbnb was nearby Rainbow Grocery and when we landed, we just wanted something quick to eat. I saw that Rainbow Grocery had hot food, so we went over here. I wanted a po-boy, but they ran out of hoagie rolls, so we opted to get a cheeseburger with fries. My boyfriend and I were actually amazed that the cheeseburger and fries were good! From a liquor store?! I feel bad about leaving this review. I might be ruining an amazing thing for those already in the know, as now even more people will discover this secret gem. Rainbow's poboys are as good as any I have had in New Orleans. Well look man I think the appearance is pleasant. I've thought really hard about this, and I'm ready to say that they have my favorite fish on toast in the city, or anywhere. All the food's really good! Solid and interesting rotation of beers in the cooler. Huge tree root out front that makes a comfy chair while waiting for an uber. In a city that's becoming full of $12+ poboys, this place still makes my favorite shrimp poboy. The price is incredibly reasonable and the quality is fantastic. They use enough large shrimp that the 8" is enough to fill you up. Their hot sausage is legit as well. During Mardi Gras we usually get shrimp plates and drinks there on a daily basis and when we don't feel like going to Rouses during the rest of the year for a six pack they're our spot. One last note: the employees/owner and whoever does the food prep are always so damn nice. I love this place and everything about it. read more

I love this place! LOVE LOVE LOVE! This is my favorite place for a cheeseburger, especially after happy hour at my favorite watering hole. I call Rainbow Grocery as I'm walking out, place my order, and it's ready in the 6 minutes it takes me to get there. Best part? Order a "Combo" and you get a dressed cheeseburger, crinkle fries, and a can soda for $7. The kitchen in the back of this store is small, nothing fancy, but always clean and efficient. The older gentleman that worked the kitchen was a true gentleman, was a master at cooking up anything back there in no time flat, and had the tendency to share off-menu foods that he had prepared for free (my favorite were his grape leaves). Sadly, I've noticed that he has not been in the kitchen lately. A younger gentleman is and the food is just not the same. Usually overcooked. The alcohol selection here is amazing. I've been able to find things at Rainbow that I can't anywhere else in the area. I also find a few new things that I've never seen on the shelves of other local groceries. Did you know that Angry Orchard made a bubbly? Neither did I, until I found it at Rainbow Mart! Unlike the food, alcohol here is a little overpriced. I paid $16 for that bottle of newly discovered bubbly. It's nice to have choices though, unlike other quick-stop businesses. read more

Love the rainbow grocery! I stop in about once a day, sometimes twice because I work such long hours. They have almost anything you could possibly need, from top shelf liquor, great beer selection, to fun ethnic food products. The place is always clean and well stocked, and they keep the riff raff away. They recently opened a kitchen and have an awesome breakfast sandwich for just under three bucks. Their wings are also really good, and at six bucks for ten of them you can't beat it. The kitchen is also really clean, which is a rarity for little places like this. The staff is awesome and remembers you by name if you go in enough. They also special ordered a specific kind of mints that my friend and I are obsessed with because we go in so much! They have really turned this place around from what it was when it was under old management, so if you have not been in recently you should stop in and see what it's about. read more
