We ordered the shrimp and grits, and they lived up to the hype, excellent flavor, well-balanced, and cooked exactly right. We also had the cast iron seared fish, which was swordfish that day. We were told there was a table upstairs inside. When we get upstairs it only had high tops. The girl apologized but never offered to change it. We went with it because it does have a foot bar. There are some back issues in our party. The appetizer BLT was good. I felt it needed a little more sauce, but not much. The flavor pallet was well balanced. The duck breast was a little overcooked with no jalapeño taste to the jalapeño jus. However, it had good flavor. The portion is not large, and you will want to order a side. The chicken and dumplings are homey, but a little different. It has a creamier flavor-which I liked. The dumplings are large drop dumplings. I would have liked for the flavor of the soup to have permitted more than the exterior to take on the flavor. This was a heartier dish than the duck. I started with a Bloody Mary and my husband started with a vodka specialty cocktail, Both were very tasty. We shared a bowl of gumbo which was fantastic. We ordered the Flambeaux shrimp; we both felt that dish could have been a little spicier. He ordered the open-faced pot roast and it was so delicious. The shrimp and grits was okay too but felt like it was lacking flavor and the grits portion was bland. We were so excited to try this spot too after getting a recommendation from our guide. I also like how the downstairs seating is set up. It's like bar seating but in front of the kitchen almost like a cooking demo. This would be really cool for a date night but not for those who are seeking privacy. It could have at least used some salt and pepper, which we did not have at the table. My steak was disappointing. It had so much fat so the edible part was so small compared to the size of the steak. It didn't taste super seasoned and came with a gravy. The gravy was bland and nothing special. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Now for $52, I feel like they could throw in a veggie with the dish. A small edible portion of steak and mashed potatoes that were just mediocre was not worth the $52. The chicken and dumplings bowl was a generous portion. We also got two alcoholic beverages. Mine was just okay. My boyfriend liked his. For a cup of gumbo, steak and mashed potatoes, chicken and dumplings, and two alcoholic beverages, we paid $127 before tip. I don't think it was worth it. I suppose seafood must be the speciality here, but the chef is famous and held in high regard, so I feel like everything on the menu should be good. The menu is small. We visited New Orleans for a week in Jan 2026. We are at several places as people do when visiting there. My wife and I both agreed that Gris Grisler was out favorite restaurant, hands down. And we ate at A lot of places. We almost went back to eat there again just because we enjoyed it so much. I had the pork chop. I can't remember what my wife had, I was too busy scarfing down my plate to pay attention. I think she had a seafood pasta type of dish. Very nice restaurant.
