The Eggs Cochon and the Chicken St. Charles
    Tommy S.

Holy hell!! This place has it going on! The food on three different visits during my trip there for a conference. It was in walking distance and had good reviews so I decided to give it a shot! I got the peacemaker. This option let you choose two Benny from their list. The first trip I got the chicken st Charles, which was basically a chicken and waffle benny, and the eggs cochon with the apple braised pork! Sooooo good!! The eggs cochon shined like a constellation mapping the food gods and pointing to right here at this point on the planet!! Second visit I did the same thing but this time got eggs cochon AGAIN!! Since it was amazing but the second one I got the Bayou shrimp! Oh man, it drooling just thinking about it! Both were so much fire!! I couldn't even stop the happy dance I was doing in my seat! I sat at the bar and even the bartenders were cool as hell and both agreed they love the bennys! Third time I was in a rush had to bring the coworkers and got the same thing again!! The Bayou Shrimp was missing the the pork bits but hey you can't win them all! I'm still giving 5 stars because has I not know that I would have still been and was still a happy camper! One of the other guys got the veggie benny and it looked soo yummy! He was also impressed as he was Indian and never had hollandaise before. WHAAAAAAT!?! Mind blown, haha and so was his!! I'm glad we did this! Thank you guys for such a great place!

Went for the hype at Ruby Slipper Cafe and unfortunately... it just wasn't it for me. Used the app for reservations which at least helped put us on the waitlist, but there wasn't really an option for indoor vs outdoor seating and we ended up inside. Since it's such a popular spot, service was definitely slow. We were seated sandwiched between two other couples and overheard how delayed orders were, so we decided to order everything all at once. We got the fried green tomatoes, mimosa flight, cappuccino, and a boozy iced coffee. The mimosa flight was actually a LOT, and because it took so long for the server to come back around, I had to slow down my drinking just to pace myself with the food coming out. For food, I had the trifecta of bennies -- and I think we also got an omelet. I didn't even finish the trifecta, but to be fair, it's a LOT of food. The seafood bennie just wasn't giving what I hoped for. I've had some amazing crab cake bennies from smaller mom-and-pop spots, so I know how good they can be, but this one just missed the mark for me. The breaded chicken bennie was actually pretty good though, and the pulled pork/beef one wasn't bad either. The fried green tomatoes caught me off guard because they had a sweeter sauce or jam on them -- not what I expected, so I'd personally pass next time. I know a lot of people come here for brunch and bachelorette trips, but after going myself... I honestly don't really get the hype.

Brunch at Ruby Slipper Cafe was actually really cute for Mother's Day. It was PACKED, but the vibe was nice and they gave all the moms a sweet little card and a carnation, which was a thoughtful touch. The mimosa flight was overpriced and honestly... still nasty but that's probably my fault for thinking this time would be different. The morning margarita though? GOOD. New Orleans never misses when it comes to strong drinks. I had the trifecta eggs Benedict with three different styles and it was really good. The fried green tomatoes with the bacon jam were probably my favorite thing we ordered -- absolutely delicious and definitely recommend. My oldest daughter tried poached eggs for the first time with her Blackstone Benedict and loved it. It also came with a fresh little salad that balanced everything out nicely. My youngest got the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. Couldn't really taste the hot honey, but the chicken itself was fried perfectly, super tender, and flavorful. Overall, cute brunch spot, good food, strong drinks, and a nice Mother's Day experience.

Everything was lovely, from a surprisingly short wait time on JazzFest weekend, to quick service and great recommendations, to food served fresh, hot and delicious. The decor was nice and welcoming, with plenty of space between tables which is an issue with some NOLA restaurants. I didn't feel like I was sitting with my neighbors or overhearing their conversations. I appreciated the space! What more is there?

Love the Ruby Slipper. The wait can take awhile, but the service is super friendly and the food is delicious. I love the avocado toast which comes with fried capers and pickled onions. My spouse picked three of the eggs Benedicts. The chicken Saint Charles was the favorite of the three. The tasso sauce was so good and the fried chicken was so flavorful. We also get an order of bananas foster french toast for the table. So yummy!!

Went here for lunch were we started with the fried green tomatoes. The waitress was awesome and when I asked for them plain she convinced me to try them as the menu described them. They were delicious and then since I like my fried green tomatoes she brought me a couple plain. I would say put it on the menu as an option please. I then ordered their southern BLT ( guess what it had fried green tomatoes on it ) sandwich hit the spot for me. I enjoyed the overall jazzy type of southern hospitality and again I can't say enough on our waitress. I'll do my best to hit here again prior to leaving

One can never go wrong with visiting Ruby Slipper. Its always a must while visiting. The food is always delicious and made to my liking. The patio seating while visiting allowed up to enjoy the view as people went about their day. SOUTHERN BREAKFAST: I chose scrambled eggs, stone-ground grits, Applewood-smoked bacon, fried green tomato a buttermilk biscuit. 5/5 Mocktail sparkling sunrise: muddled fresh strawberries & Crofter's strawberry preserves with fresh lime juice, Natalie's Blood Orange Juice, and San Pellegrino Sparkling Limonata. I absolutely loved this one as it was so refreshing and full of flavor with a hint of fizz. Rosa was an amazing server!!!

The food and service were fantastic. Best grits we had on our trip. We sat outside and it was a bit chilly and rainy, but that's not the restaurant's fault! They also were able to accommodate us even though we got our timing mixed up, coming from NYC (that hour messes with you!) I ordered Migas and it was so flavorful and delicious. My friend ordered the eggs cochon, which she also said was very tasty. This is my second time dining at Ruby Slipper and I definitely intend to come back if I'm in the area again!

We came here on the recommendation of our hotel doorman. There was a crowd outside the Magazine St location (there are several spots), but we were seated within 15 minutes. The place was noisy but upbeat and the service was charming and very "local." We had delicious lattes featuring nearby French Truck Coffee, and some mimosas. The Gulf Shrimp omelette was a favorite, with big, plump, fresh shrimp, and accompanied by delicious grits and a biscuit with honey butter and jam. The place was hopping but service was great! Worth the visit!

Very good breakfast last minute! Having a very large group we came here to try and get a quick bite late in the morning. They were able to accommodate a group of 10 with only a 30 minute wait and got the food out pretty quick. The food was very good for being a large popular chain. My friends loved the shrimp and grits, and I absolutely adored the fact that you could mix and match the Benedict's. This is a great spot for brunch if you're not looking for a quaint local business.

Fried chicken and French toast bites with praline sauce
    Erica D.

Food was excellent and a very good value. Something for everyone for sure, even someone like me who isn't in to breakfast and brunch. Smiling friendly service from hosts to waitstaff to food runners. I chose the Southern Breakfast because I wanted to try the grits, fried green tomatoes and biscuits so the eggs and bacon just came for the ride. Upgraded to cheddar cheese grits for $0.50 which was fine and they were delicious. I liked the applewood smoked bacon and the biscuit was EXACTLY to my liking: the fluffy/doughy kind that takes any flavor you give it. Bacon jam and butter were on the plate as well. Loved the FGT so for sure would get an order next time. Partner had the fried chicken and French toast bites with a side of praline sauce (for an extra buck, fine). He's the brunch eater of the family. That was dessert as far as I was concerned--too sweet and fried and cinnamon-y for me. Great fried chicken though. Took awhile and a couple of reminders to get coffee but then refills arrived regularly so all was forgiven. Waitress was a great up seller but we didn't go for every suggestion--they were all reasonable though. Really nice Ruby Mimosa. You can make reservations through Yelp! and you probably should. Outdoor (quiet) and AC indoor seating (loud) available. Will return.

Excellent service, I was treated like an old friend from the moment I walked in the door. I tried their hot honey chicken and wasn't disappointed. The fries were nicely seasoned. This place is a landmark, drop in. The bar was particularly comfortable.

Cannot wait to get back to New Orleans so I can eat here again. The wait time was reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the food is great. Loved the laid back atmosphere! We sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be back!

Ruby Slipper Central Business District Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Ruby Slipper Central Business District

Can we make a breakfast reservation?

No, but you can add your name to the waitlist on their website. BUT... you still need to get there and check in face to face to make it official. Expect a long wait.

Do they take online reservations? I see conflicting info on their website vs yelp reviews.

They don't take online reservations but you can put your name on the list for a specific time and when you arrive the wait time is 10-15 minutes

What are the vegan options or what can be veganized on the menu?

Nearly everything has some sort of milk or egg inside of it. Not recommended for vegan.

What is the average cost of the food?

Probably about $12 a plate, definitely worth it

Is the patio at this location covered?

There is some outside seating but not an actual patio and it is covered.

Is the outside seating dog friendly for non service dogs?

We saw a few dogs outside with their owners eating, none had service animal vests or collars on...so I would believe it's ok.

Do you have a vegan menu?

    yes, its called a salad!

Do they accept large parties? I am trying to seat for 18

I would recommend giving them a call.

Can they accommodate large groups- we have 13?

It may take a little bit for you to wait, but they can accommodate. They also have waitresses that peruse the sidewalk out front taking drink orders to help the time pass.

Hi. Is there a separate gluten-free menu. Can menu items be made gluten free?

There is not a separate gluten-free menu. A couple items could be, as far as I'm aware

Is the menu the same everyday or is there a special menu for brunch?

    Same every day

Would this place have a line if we come right at 7am on a Saturday?

The line doesn't get serious until 9 or so. They also have an app where you can put your name on the list before you get there!

We checked into our nearby hotel a bit early in the day and was looking to hit the streets for a spot to get a chill/light breakfast, a coffee and maybe a cocktail. We found all the things at Luzianne Cafe. Whether you belly up to the bar or grab a table, both of which are first come first serve, you start at the counter where you order, pay and grab your table number. It appears that during busy times they allow you to sit first and order from the QR at your table, this is an assumption given the code to order at the table, but the sign at the entry directed folks to the counter to order before sitting. For breakfast, we got the breakfast biscuit which came with eggs, bacon and cheese, and sided it with grits. The breakfast sandwich was solid, eggs were a bit soft and grits were more mealy than we are used to, but I think that may be authenticity of the area more than anything. I opted for the three option omelet with onion, sausage and gouda plus a side of sausage links. The omelet, though odd sounding combination turned out to be solid. Maybe it was my options, but it was decently "one note" in flavor. I tossed a little hot sauce on and that helped. However, while the sausage links were not much to look at, they were tasty, with a nice snap to the casing and meaty inside. To go with our breakfast, I got a cold brew with a splash of almond milk while my partner embraced NOLA and started his day with a bourbon sour. Both of us enjoyed our choices! Service was friendly and helpful at the counter/bar. The food runner was nice and then another member, assuming the Manager, that stopped by to check on us mid meal. She was super friendly and nice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and drinks at Luzianne. Minor things noted, mainly on the cook of the eggs, but nothing awful. It his the spot and checked the boxes!

We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children (one being only 2 years old), and because of that they changed our table type from a 4-top to a 5-top and made us wait an additional 30 minutes. Meanwhile, multiple tables became available that easily could have accommodated us, but the hostess was determined to keep telling us we had to wait. To make matters worse, there was open bench seating in the back where customers ordering to-go could sit. I offered to order food to-go so we could at least sit down and get started while waiting, and she told me if I did that they would remove our name from the waitlist because "you have to pick one or the other." No willingness to problem solve whatsoever. She repeatedly said she was "sorry," but her actions showed the opposite. I was simply trying to work together to find some reasonable solution instead of continuing to watch everyone else get seated while our family, including small children, kept waiting. Absolutely horrible customer service experience.

We went all in: shrimp and grits that were downright phenomenal (I'm still thinking about them), a goat cheese omelette that was so good it made me question all my past breakfast decisions, and pancakes with berries that tasted like they were made by someone who genuinely cares about your happiness. The coffee? Strong enough to fix your life. The service? Warm, attentive, and somehow psychic--they just knew when we needed refills or another mimosa (which, for the record, felt less like a drink and more like a lifestyle choice). Honestly, this place doesn't just serve breakfast--it gives you a reason to get out of bed. 10/10 would wake up early again... and I do not say that lightly.
