Had a cut in my wire and had them splice in 30ft of sprinkler wire. I was told it's expensive wire as they charged $6.5 a ft. Internet price is $1.05 per ft. They ended up charging $420 with less than a hour of labor to replace 30ft of wire (splicing it in). Last time dealing with a company that gets their ft. to your door with a low start up cost but gouges on any additional work. I also asked for a price to install a WiFi controller (I had purchased from Amazon) since they were already here. The quote was $295 to hang it on the wall wired up and extra to program. I said no thanks and installed it (never installed one before) in ten minutes and then fully programmed it on my phone in under 10 minutes. It's not about the $$$$ it's about the lack of ethics /transparency.

This is a family business and they specialize in servicing sprinkler systems only (ie no new installs). I needed my sprinkler systems serviced due to a specific problem I was having. They seemed hell bent on replacing the valves in my sprinkler system, with each one being costly. They didn't actually diagnose the problem, but simply told me that replacing valves would fix. Three replaced valves and problem wasn't fixed. They were also eager upsell and charge me ~$200 for a 15 min labor and $50 part to optimize the flow of water through one region. Overall I felt the service was not good quality, rested on upselling services at ridiculous prices, and questionably transparency.

We have been using Alfa Backflow for a number of years to perform the test and are very happy with their service. When you call Alfa Backflow, you will be speaking to Michelle, who is very nice and friendly. She is also very responsive in email communication. Tom, the technician who conducts the field test, is very professional. Their price is reasonable, and they are prompt in filing the test result with our Village. After our sprinkler system provider (another company, not Alfa) turned on the sprinklers in the spring, we noticed that there was water dripping from the RPZ valve. They suggested that we should replace the entire valve, which would cost $600 - $800. However, after Tom had inspected the valve, he said the leak could be fixed just by replacing a washer. It did work, and the washer only cost $10. Alfa Backflow truly deserves a 5-star service award!

While the technician seemed to be good, he said that the backflow valve was old and leaking, and had to be replaced. Since it would be an expensive job, we told him that we would do some research first. Like 5/6 years ago, I called Michelle at Alfa Backflow to see if they could fix the leak when they come to test the backflow system. Michelle sent Tom, who showed up on time on the scheduled day. He tightened the valve and the leak was fixed! He didn't charge us any extra fee! We are so lucky to have such an honest and skillful company helping us! Michelle has always been very helpful and accommodating to us, and she is always very nice and friendly to talk to. I feel blessed to have a backflow company that we can trust!

I called JH to see if he could repair the damage and he was able to come out the next day. He was super friendly, professional, and it was clear he had a lot of experience in this line of work. In less than an hour, he patched up two leaks in the underground piping and replaced some damaged sprinkler heads. He made sure to test everything before he left and kept everything very tidy. He is an incredible tradesman and always our preferred choice where his services are warranted. We, however, live in Winnetka and this is outside "Armando's" service area. He, however, recommended HT Strenger to us and we are extremely happy that he did. We experienced a leak behind a kitchen wall that another vendor purported to fix yet to no avail so this was a re-do. David of Strenger reported precisely on time and opened the wall as if he was instead a laproscopic surgeon, unlike the previous failed vendor whose access hole/port was four times larger and created a mess that required the acquisition of a drywaller and several hours of collective inconvenience. The first failed plumbing contractor billed in 15 minute increments and, if I am not mistaken, so did Strenger, with the difference being the former's "efficacy coefficient" was zero. Stenger's work lacked the haphazard, sloppy and careless inputs of the first acquistion, one of those "always on the radio" suppliers whose name a collegue supplied, and who regretfully I called, as the job seemed perfunctory to say the least. Unfortunately, my belief of the strong inverse correlation that exists between a company's propensity to run obnoxious radio ads and its tendency to screw up the simplest job remains. Neither my wife nor I believed it necessary to ask a real plumber for a more proximate recommendation ("Armando, who would you hire if you lived up here" was indeed the targeted vernacular) but such is the world in which we now live. Another reviewer apparently thought it strange that the company requests "five star" reviews post completion. David made the same request but I construed this not as a plea of desperation inasmuch as affirmation that one would be forthcoming IF and only IF, we felt comfortable rendering such. Strenger's management, unlike the radio advertisers, seemingly understand that loyality, and the ability to thus eschew spending thousands of dollars or whatever these others pay on psychobabble laden. platitude filled ads, comes from telling customers what you will do and for how much, doing it as promised and then billing appropriately. We now have two favorite household plumbers with Strenger being our preferred provider up north. It's just a shame, however, that it takes typically two suppliers, both requiring remuneration, to acquire one good outcome. Strenger made write all that was wrong and I am very grateful for its excellent work. You will be too.

First…read moreI talk to a guy there and explain the situation and send pictures and am told me I'll need a camera inspection before doing a pipe repair, and the camera inspection will be $600. OK no worries, let's do it. So then they come out to do the inspection, take a look and tell me I don't need the camera inspection after all. OK great. Then they charge me $200 for coming over for 10 minutes and telling me that....OK. So the guy tells me it will be a couple of thousand dollars to dig down into the basement floor and fix the pipe, and I'm like oh that's not too bad. He says he'll send a quote over. So five days pass and I still don't have the quote after reaching out to them twice to ask for it eventually the quote comes in, and to my surprise it's over $5000. And at that point, I give up.
