Excellent food, really beyond what one has any right to expect in Fairfield County - better than 90% of the Thai restaurants in New York City (and maybe 50% of the Thai restaurants in Thailand based on my admittedly rather limited experience with those) Good beverage selection too. Also the staff are incredibly warm and friendly - we've been coming here regularly for about half a year now and they're always lovely to us. Great for kids as well - we have a now-almost-2-year-old daughter and they're extremely accommodating about table placements and menu tweaks. The view is a treat too, especially given that a depressingly large portion of restaurants in Saugatuck fail to take advantage of the fact that they have a pretty nice river flowing right next to them. Delivery service also solid, they take online orders on their website (faster than you-know-who and doesn't take a commission) and usually have our food at our door in about 30 minutes. read more

Tastes great, less filling... Well, beer commercials aside, this place is ok. Fish was not particularly fresh. Sauces were nice. Service was good. My first 5 star rating! For a small state, we have tons of Thai restaraunts but Rainbow Thai is a must. The food is beautifully presented and tastes amazing. Servers were very courteous and made us rad na even though it wasn't on the menu. The view of the river also makes the restaraunt a very relaxing location. read more

I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant, but the shrimp pad Thai was bland and the noodles were overlooked. I was excited to try this restaurant after viewing the pictures of the pad Thai on Yelp, but I later realized they were posted over a year ago. Fantastic. Far and away one of the best experiences I've had. Having visited twice with a group of four, we tried different dishes each time. Every item ordered was perfect. I highly recommend the chili lime shrimp appetizer, which is beyond incredible, and the curries - having tried their red, yellow, and jungle styles - were each excellent with the exact right amount of heat requested. The drunken noodles and sambal are also flavorful and prepared with a touch you would expect from a master chef. Prices are very reasonable for the portion size, and the service is friendly, swift, and accommodating. If the tables are open, you can even have a view of the water while you enjoy your meal. Each visit to Rainbow has been a pleasure and I will surely return many, many more times. read more

This place is our Jam! We order take out from this restaurant a min of 2 times a week and it's not unusual 2 times. The food is super fresh and always delicious! best Shrimp Pad Thai in the area; very nice Tom Yung Goong soup pleasantly spicy and quite nicely flavored - the one thing they could do is change to a different shrimp vendor or change the cooking technique because they are coming off as sort of "twice boiled" and that is not what you want. Some dishes really call for the shrimp to be sauteed, not boiled - and if you swap in the boiled ones it's not an enhancement. In the Shrimp Pad Thai - the shrimp should be a little bigger, and they should be sauteed not boiled. However, the noodles are quite good as is the sauce. Overall, still the best Shrimp Pad Thai in the area. Also, a quite nice view of the river and boats nearby. read more

I really love this place. I order the same thing every time: Chicken fried rice with an order of fried banana and mango and sticky rice (yes, I get two deserts with my one meal). I always order to-go so I have no clue how the service is for dinning in but I have never had a tummy ache after eating the food here and I thoroughly enjoy the fried banana dessert. Decent Thai in Fairfield County has been impossible to find for a long time. This is very good, for the burbs. One of the best Pad Thai's I've had anywhere - tasty, a bit dry. Try the Tom Kha Gai coconut soup! Small quaint, dozen tables, prompt cheerful service, very sparse modern clean locale. Long time, scruffy challenged little strip shopping "mall", restaurant is nicer inside than the exterior. Looks over unfortunate waterview in Westport, but it is somewhat bright and officially a "wet" view. If you are in this area of Fairfield Cty and crave Thai - about the best around - currently. Thai restaurants seem to "turn" quickly for some reason in Norwalk, Westport & Fairfield - hopefully this one will stick around. If you are tired of the same old Chinese haunts, this is worth a try. read more

Despite having a dizzying array of Asian restaurants including Chinese, sushi, Vietnamese, and fusion of those listed, there hasn't been a real Thai restaurant in the area since Shake Shack took over the location of the last Thai joint. I am happy to report that Rainbow is excellent basic Thai execution. The curries I ave had we're all excellent and authentic including the masamam, Penang and red curry varieties. I have both taken out and dined in. The food is tasty and inexpensive. It's good for lunch since its directly on the saugatuck river and offers the cheapest waterfront meal around. read more

Quality and quantity has gone down. Used to come here and enjoyed the food. Now, the Roti is burnt and soft; pad sew ew portion was tiny. Ended up ordering 2 more dishes to compensate for the portion size. (Previous visits-no need to add more dishes). We stopped for lunch on the way home from a weekend trip and were very happy with the food and service. Had the spicy crispy red snapper, pineapple fried rice and roti. They were all excellent but the crispy red snapper stood out. Sauce was delicious, with plenty of veggies and just spicy enough to enjoy without having to drink gallons of water. Delicious. Another great addition to Westport dining! Rainbow Thai is delicious. I had take-out once and ate in a few times... and can't wait to go back. The pork dumplings as an appetizer are very good - the dough is thin and delicate, and the meat is well seasoned a juicy. I had the chicken pad thai both times, that how delicious it is. They have a full bar, and the restaurant is small but cute, without any frills... the special thing is the food! So, no pretension but a very solid delicious meal, and at a quite reasonable price. I was wearing casual clothes when I went in and didn't feel out of place at all. The only negative: service was a little slow, but then again they are so busy, that's to be expected, and they were very nice which made up for it. read more

Pros - food is good. Atmosphere is quaint. (Had the mango salmon, which was great.) Fair prices. Cons - very little parking; had to park down the road and across the street (on a Wed evening). So dark, I could barely see my food and read the menu. Waiter didn't speak English well so I couldn't explain that I wanted my meal not spicy but with a bit of a kick. Therefore, suboptimal meal. Great Thai food in Westport. I really enjoy Thai food both in Thailand and in many cities outside. We were thrilled to try this restaurant because my son is a vegetarian and have been back 3 times in the last month. I found the papaya salad too spicy for my taste on the second occasion and the server took $5 off our bill spontaneously. The food is very enjoyable, but this example shows why this restaurant builds up loyalty above and beyond the food. We like the riverside location that allows us to look at interesting water fowl. I highly recommend, but emphasize that the spicing is true rather than being Americanized. read more

Rainbow is one of the best Thai restaurants in southern CT. The staff is gracious, well trained and quite eager to keep customers happy. The kitchen produces wonderful, delicious food. Our favoritie appetizers include larb and curry puffs. Their best entrees are Duck Choo Chee, Spicy chicken with Basil and drunken noodles. The atmosphere varies from quiet on weekday evenings to raucous on the weekends. All in all an excellent choice for Thai food lovers. read more

Loved everything I tasted and shared here. Appetizers Tod Mun -fish cakes- and Tao Hoo Tord -crispy tofu- were both perfectly prepared and a nice counter-balance to each other. The red curry was creamy and spicy just the way it's supposed to be and the vegetables were properly cooked. The Pad See Ew had that rich mahogany colored sauce that I remember from my favorite Thai places in NYC. Yum. Smallish restaurant so I suggest a reservation. Staff is relaxed. This was really good food! I stopped by there after the Korean restaurant was closed for a function. I wanted fried rice! The house fried rice was the best I have every eaten. So flavorful the scallions were tender and bright. The chicken was juicy. The tomato was cooked to perfection the entire dish was buttery and moist. I even returned the following week. It's never as good as he first time, but still very good food. The drunken noodles were good as well. Not over cooked! read more
