We used to love Lilac House. Last time we ordered take out, their General Tso's Chicken contained inedible hard pieces of chicken but we thought we'd give our old favorite another go. It was not to be. Tonight we had hot and sour soup. I found some kind of peppery sludge in my serving of it (see photo). Hope I don't get sick. Spicy yellow tail hand roll had nothing in it except rice and poor quality fish that tasted like a bland paste. Crispy chicken house sweet chili sauce was very soggy . The cold sesame noodles had an aftertaste making us doubt the freshness of the ingredients. We wanted so much to like this place again but unfortunately we will have to go elsewhere. read more

Great food and service but I would recommend takeout. It's not the best atmosphere to sit in. It's okay not cozy or pretty.

This is our regular go-to restaurant for Chinese food. They serve all the popular basics and a few unique dishes. We do not order the same thing every time since there are several dishes we like to eat. read more

In the past few months the food from lilac has lost its luster. Please note We always order delivery and have never dined in. On two occasions my wife soup was actually as if it was spoiled. The taste was rancid. Another incident the chicken in my order was rotten. Needless to say we called and complained with no resolution. Last night 9/15, I took my wife out to dinner and the kids insisted we order from Lilac house. They asked me for the last four of the Cc when I placed the order, which I did not know this but apparently they are storing credit card information without my authorization. I was asked if tip for the driver should go on the card. I throw a driver a courtesy $5 typically and told them no its cash and left a $5 bill on the counter. Not shocking my kids didnt give the $5 to the driver, what is shocking is I got a call from Lilac asking if I tipped the driver and berating me for not tipping. So with the food quality at an all time low even by connecticut standards and being yelled at because a driver didnt get his $5 we will never order from lilac again and recommend you dont either. read more

Love this place! They do a tremendous takeout business. Yes, you CAN eat here, but for me this is the kind of food I like to eat at home and then pick at for the rest of the night after a long hard day at work. It's delicious! Fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. My favorite is the Kung Pao Beef with Peanuts! It comes with sticky white rice and 2 or 3 un-cracked, hot peppers. If it's not spicy enough for you, all you have to do is crack those little buggers and give it a stir. Usually, I toss them out, but it's nice to have the option. This has been my go-to for years but I'm done now. Hair in my lifeless wonton soup. Wontons so soft they fell apart. No bite whatsoever. Chicken in the chicken and broccoli consisted of huge flat pieces of hacked bird that were that unchewable rubbery texture. Threw most of it out and just ate the broccoli. I usually get the same thing, and it always works for me, including the scallion pancakes. Had my typical order delivered - one bite and I could taste the oil used to fry the scallion pancakes was rancid. To be fair, first time in maybe 5 orders they were bad. Tried to ignore it, had another bite - oof. Just dangerously bad. Called the restaurant asked for the manager - young lady said he was not available was there a problem? I said look I'm not trying to be difficult but I'm just letting you know the oil for the scallion pancakes is rancid and you shouldn't serve it tonight ... ... suddenly she says, I will get the manager. Okay, so that was deceptive. He gets on the phone, instantly aggressive - WHAT IS PROBLEM? FYI - I avoid conflict at every cost - I said, look order there a lot, I enjoy your food... I just want to let you know the oil for the scallion pancakes is rancid... Literally did not get one more word out and he's screaming at me. I just basically repeated myself I said, whoa ... I enjoy your food I'm letting you know somebody could get really sick from eating this... Now he's screaming and dropping F bombs. I just ended the conversation. This place has never been on my radar but I recently discovered that this restaurant is owned or affiliated with LC Chen's, which I'm a fan of. A couple of weeks ago my husband and I ordered a chicken curry entree and a couple of rolls of sushi and all I can say about the food is: outstanding! Recently the food quality has gone to shit. Multiple menu items have been changed to cheaper lower quality versions of these items for basically the same price. For example the tangerine chicken has instead of being actual pieces of chicken fried with sauce it's instead became balls of ground of chicken covered in a disgusting syrup. Not a bad place at all and very nice inside. I have food allergies so cannot eat alot of their food but like the soup and Egg Roll. Also their fortune cookies! My parents have been here and have been fans of the place. Lilac House is easy to find, has good prices and is a nice option for lunch as well as dinner. Service is OK and staff are friendly. I would say it is just okay! I ordered chicken pad Thai and chicken lo mein and both were kind of dry, but pretty good. I also tried a shrimp tempura roll and that was also a tad dry, I would definitely recommend adding your own sauces to their dishes if you want a bit more flavor! It was great food. My bf loves their general tso's chicken and so we went there for his birthday. We ordered two orders of general Tso's with brown rice (brown or white were the options) then we ordered fried rice-it sucks that It comes separately but it was also delicious. so we had two meals plus a large plate of veggie fried rice. It was delicious, but it had this hard turnip thing in it, I wasn't sure what it was-it was a vegetable, I just took it out the rice and everything else was perfect. It wasn't packed when we walked in, more busy as we left, but it was a Wednesday night around 7. The drink was great, they lit a little flame on it which was cool. I also got a shrimp tempura roll and a sweet potato roll. both decent rolls. I would choose sweet basil for their shrimp tempura roll though. but again still delicious. Large portions, and with the two of us, spent about 60 bucks including the drinks so I thought it was a pretty decent price. They bring over fruit, fortune cookies and mints after. The place is clean, and the staff is attentive but not overly so. It was a great night especially after changing our plans last minute. read more

I've been ordering and picking up from here for years but they've now added a 10 dollar minimum for takeout (?!?!?!) and that doesn't include the 1 dollar convenience fee ( if I'm picking up how is that convenient for the restaurant?) 5 stars for customer service. ..0 stars for the Chinese food though. I did not eat any Japanese food so this is only for their Chinese. I ordered delivery and the guy on the phone was extremely friendly. My boyfriend and I were starving, we saw good reviews and some awards for having great Chinese food so we ordered a LOT of it. Delivery was super fast to Bridgeport so I was really looking forward to our meal. (The driver was very nice too and actually listened to my delivery instructions) It wad bad. Really bad. Not a single thing we ordered was good. Lets go through our crazy list of everything we got. Vegetable fried rice - it tasted ok, but it smelled so awful I couldn't even stomach more than one bite Vegetable steamed dumplings - I should have asked what vegetables they used in them. I'm still not even sure but I think it was spinach and broccoli. That combination to me, is gross. One or the other, but they don't go good together. Boneless spare ribs - my dogs sure loved them, but they also lick each others asses Chicken fingers - DRIPPING with grease. There was very little chicken, it was mostly fried grease. Scallion pancakes - they were way too thick. One side was raw and the other side completely burnt. Crab rangoons - they were ok, but they should just call them cream cheese rangoons because I saw no sight of crab anywhere. And last but not least...a couple of eggrolls. I always order these for safety because when all else fails, I've never had a bad egg roll before. Now I have! They smelled weird, looked weird and were burnt. My dogs would highly recommended this place since they ended up with most of our food. The humans however, desperately wanted to like this place, but would never eat here ever again. read more

We ordered from LC Chen vie internet but were notified via telephone that pick up would be at Lilac House. We LOVE. LC Chen but were reassured they are sister sites and same recipes/chef style. Pick up was a breeze. We got home (Norwalk) and the food was still hot. We ordered generals chicken ... outstanding... also got the boneless ribs ... the best we have had in years! Our children ate the satay chicken and beef lo mein and could my usually picky eaters could not get enough! I've recommended this place to all my friends ... and they ones that have made the trek from Stamford or Trumbull are more than pleased as well. Can't wait to go back! read more

Not the best food I've ever eaten, but I would order from time to time because it was close and convenient. Tonight is my last night. My husband was in the car for four hours today, so we decided to order delivery. It was incorrect, and they refused to bring the correct item, just telling us we could have a credit for next time. There won't be a next time, so I'm just out $16 for a small dish that isn't how it was supposed to be prepared. Also, the dishes are the same price if you order vegetables or shrimp.
