Took us 10 minutes to get drink orders, ordered apps , came out cold and took 30 mins....when our entrees came, my steak was over cooked but was so hungry I didn't send it back...wait staff was less than attentive and management seemed very un interested in what I had to say about my experience. Funny how this experience reminded me of the one I had while vacationing in Florida at T. rex cafe, later to learn that they're owned by the same company, Landrys, it's gotta be a company wide deal just to focus on theming of the restaurant and not actual customer service. read more

Just got home from having dinner here. I used to go to rainforest cafe as a child and haven't been back in years so I was excited to bring my 1 year old. She loved it. It's definitely a little different from when I was younger, not as much animal interaction as I remembered but it was still fun. I had the salmon and shrimp and it was very good. Two people of our party had fish and chips and they weren't crazy about it but this place is more about the experience than anything else. The kids Mac & cheese was good, my daughter liked it. I think not!!! Went for lunch at 2:30 in the afternoon. Decided to sit by the bar.. No one was there... Not another soul other than 4 servers behind the bar and all equally clueless and disinterested in their job. My husband and I ordered two burgers which took over 40 minutes.. Think they had to hand grind the ground beef themselves. Then we decided to join the Landry club that cost $25 and the card can only be given by the manager (another useless individual ) who finally came out after almost another 30 minutes.. Came here for a spring break treat with the family. The restaurant is in Menlo Park Mall. There was a souvenir shop at the entrance. We went on a weekday and were seated within 5 minutes but if you have to wait there are fish tanks and stuffed animals in the storefront to keep the kids occupied. The restaurant is dark and there are more fish inside and animatronic characters that "come alive" every 10 minutes or so during the meal. The food was good. I had chicken and ribs with mashed and broccoli. The ribs were flavorful and tender. The chicken was good but I requested a side of bbq sauce for more flavor. The portion of mashed potatoes was small and the broccoli should have been cooked more. That meal was 22.99. The kids ordered off the adult menu (Tweens) but there was a decent kids menu with ribs and popcorn shrimp- no fries. The bathroom was clean and our waitress ( or Safari attendant as she called herself) was really attentive. I wish there was more variety in the animatronic entertainment. We've been to Disney World on numerous occasions. The theme is similar to TRex in downtown Disney but TRex is way better overall. I may return if they offer a different entertainment experience. My son loves this place so I can't completely bash it, but the food really does suck here. My recommendation is to save your money and eat elsewhere and then come here just for desert and the experience of it. If you must eat here, I suggest keeping it simple and getting the fried shrimp. read more

The food was awesome. I was on a lunch date with my fiance. We definitely hit up the gift shop on the way out. My fiance found a heart shaped rock in the pile of rocks for sale so she had to buy it. Worst possible experience I had ever had in a restaurant. Don't waste your time going to the Edison branch. Take my advice and do not go there. I asked for a steak medium and it was cooked and then microwaved, the management is clues and the staff are slow. So many people working there but we have to wait an hour for our reheated meal. So you are aware you are mostly paying for the atmosphere, so please expect that when you go here! We made reservations here for Valentine's Day because we wanted to bring our son along for dinner and thought he would like this place. We were right! He loved it! He was so excited over the animals! The food we ordered was okay, it was not great but wasn't horrible. The coconut curry was absolutely delicious, if I could I would eat it on everything!!! This is definitely a place to go to take your kids so everyone can enjoy a nice meal out (the animals distracted my son enough where me and my husband were actually able to eat a little bit at the same time lol). My Only complaint is the check in process, someone was standing at the post for 6 minutes (the only reason I know is cause we got there exactly at our reservation time) and did not greet us or anything, it wasn't until another employee walked over did they finally greet us. I see this place received some harsh reviews but it was exactly as I expected. It is a place to take you children for the atmosphere. The food was OK, nothing special but thats not why you come. We were here mid-afternoon on a Saturday and the service was fine. Our waitress was attentive, prompt and polite. Our drinks and meals came out in a timely fashion. They offered to rush order the kids meals which we opted for and this certainly kept them occupied while we awaited our meals. We orderd the Volcano desert and split among 4 people and it was good. My expectations were that of a chain geared towards kids and this place lived up to it. read more

During a recent conversation about Rainforest Cafe, my girlfriend and I were surprised to see that there were any still in existence as we thought them deforested a long time ago. We decided to come to relive some childhood memories. Yes, this place is primarily for children and may have lost its luster a long time ago, but it was nice to come back. Service was attentive, food was alright, probably in line with anything you can get at Applebee's, Friday's or the like. I don't think it's as bad as some of the reviews and overall rating would suggest, although it definitely shows its age. I can't believe I haven't rated this place yet! This is a favorite for the kid, for obvious reasons. It's a far drive for us, which is good and bad. We don't have to go all the time, but when we do go, it's a ride! The atmosphere is absolutely great, of course, that's their thing. We always have a good time when we go. It's always clean, though the bathrooms might need a little more attention every now and then. It isn't terrible, especially when you think about the amount of children that go through there. Service is spotty. Sometimes you get excellent, sometimes you get shoot me. Our visit yesterday was a "meh." The host, Robbie (? I think?) was terrific and helpful. The waitress wasn't spectacular but she wasn't as bad as we've had them in the past. The service isn't consistent at all. One time we got a waitress who must have been on another planet because she didn't get one thing correct in our order. The last time we had Wonder Woman - she was phenomenal. I mostly always get the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger because I know it is safe. The SO gets different things, usually revolving around steak, I don't know why - I tell him it's a waste of time but he doesn't listen. Last night he finally relented and went with the fish tacos. The munchkin pretty much always gets the Jurassic Chicken Tidbits, which there aren't complaints over. She and I both get broccoli as a side, which is usually under cooked and hard to eat, but it's alright. The tacos were okay for the SO. He finished everything. My burger was good, but it comes with an onion ring. It was so teeny tiny and the bacon was all crammed on one side. I got a good laugh out of it and ate it anyway. Overall, I think the menu is too complicated and pricey. If they simplified it would be so much better. People would be happier with the price and taste then. They still get the traffic though. One other complaint - we always go in as three and every freaking time they sit us at a huge round table. I hate it. It's like "here guys, have dinner completely separate from each other. One of us is always isolated.. if I sit in the middle, then I have to basically turn my back on my man to interact with the kid and vice versa. I HATE this so much. Last time I complained and we got moved to a square table, which is so much nicer. This time I didn't have the energy to do so. What I do like about Rainforest is the atmosphere, of course. I love when the animals go crazy - sometimes all together, sometimes different groups at a time. I love the store and we love the crocodile outside the restaurant. The store has things of varying prices so you can get away with a little figure. We are Landry's Select Club members, and the manager came around to thank us for being members, etc. However, they do this anyway. Every time we have been there, the manager has come around at least once to see how things are going. They genuinely care about you having a good experience and I appreciate that. They interact well with the Bean too, which is nice. She is a person and I like that they acknowledge that. Last, the Volcano thing is so worth it. It was the Munchkin's birthday, so we ordered it for her. They come out yelling, "Volcano!!" in a line, stick a candle in it and sing. If it's not a birthday, they still yell out, "Volcano!!" It's a pile of ice cream surrounded by brownie and topped with whipped cream. I think there's caramel and chocolate syrup too. I'm not sure. I get in a frenzy and am hypnotized by it's deliciousness. Excellent for kids. I also like how they change the kid's menu frequently. We hardly ever get the same coloring & activities. We're super happy with it, despite the shortfalls in the price and food quality. read more

I had a dinner on a Wednesday. The wait time for having the food out was extremely long, like over 45 minutes. No wonder many people go to the other end of Menlo Park, which has the Cheesecake factory, which is much better. I ordered a Beastly burger with fries. Literally, you can count the number of french fries which is about 10. Why so cheap with your fries. My spouse order a a chicken breast. She is literally hungry leaving the place and overall she is not a big eater. In addition, most of the food that was served came out not hot. They need to make big changes to keep their business afloat. I definitely wold not go back there anymore. read more

This was my first ever visit to Rainforest Cafe. It was Sunday at noon as to avoid even more kids. I had to trek my way through the gift shop in order to get to the restaurant. I ordered the Rainforest Ricky and the Pastalaya. I'm sure Kaitlyn automatically brought me a glass of water because of how spicy it is. I ate my meal while listening to bongo-heavy music and the occasional monkey and elephant noises. The place is loaded with water from the several exotic fish tanks to the controlled rainfall next to some tables and even more flowing water under the bar. The" thunderstorm" would seem more real if white light flashed rather than just the yellow house lights going on and off. Several kids seemed to be scared of the decor and animatronics but not to the point of screaming. read more

Met by friendly hostesses who also went table to table to check on everything. The chicken finger kids meal was exactly as you would expect as were the chicken strips. Wish I could select negative stars. No doubt they have really worked hard on their interiors. My toddler loved the place but when it comes to order your food, the staff here is incompetent. Even for a single kid pizza, it takes an hour for them to get it on table. Even after waiting for 75 minutes, we didn't get our order and finally decided to walk out. After complaining to restaurant manager, he says that kitchen is usually busy and you have to wait this much if you like to have food in rainforest. This is unacceptable and not a good way to treat your customers. In fact the restaurant was just half full but still they were so busy. I am not coming here ever. The atmosphere is great for little ones but the food sucks. I had the chicken chimichanga, a Mexican dish. It was supposed to have melted cheddar cheese, instead it was American cheese! Who uses American cheese in a Mexican meal? The rest of my dish has no taste My son had the Dino bites. They were the exact ones that I buy at Costco! The complementary ice cream for the children's meal was just a large tablespoon of ice cream. I do no recommend rainforest cafe! read more

I haven't been to this pace in years, well that's up until now. It was surprising a lot better from wha I had remembered and enjoyed my meal and drinks. However the service took forever, appetizers and meal as well as drinks all took way to long. For being a kid friendly place they should really work on the service... We were with 5 kids and 3 of them were able to enjoy the atmosphere and food the other 2 were to young. Went there while on business in NJ. First off we were sat right away but waited about 10 min and no one even came to take our drink order. We finally went to the manager that we saw walking the floor and told him. He sent a waiter over right away and apologized. Then we began to order our meals. First off, their dressing selection sucks. No A Thousand Island? No Italian? For real? The items on the menu were strange and didn't look appetizing. I ordered a simple soup (NE Clam Chowder) and salad (Caesar) combo. Two of my coworkers ordered the Jungle Chopped Salad (one with ranch the other with the raspberry vinaigrette that came on it) one with a cheese stick appetizer and another ordered the chicken quesadilla (wanted no sour cream) and a burger (that was suppose to come with onion rings but she didn't want them, she also wanted pepper jack cheese on it). The chicken quesadilla came out and it was more like pita bread with chicken. And low and behold there was sour cream. She just pushed it aside. When the cheese sticks came out, they had given her COCKTAIL SAUCE instead of marinara. When the main course came out, the first problem was the nasty attitude of the food runner. On the upside my food (the soup and salad combo) was fine and tasty. However, the 2 Jungle Chopped Salads were terrible. They were more like shredded then chopped and the chicken that came on them was dry. (The chicken that was in my Caesar salad however, was good.) The Jungle Chopped Salads were suppose to be tossed in the dressing but one person had asked for Ranch instead of what comes on it and they didn't toss the salad in it and she even had to ask the waiter to bring the Ranch out. The other person who got the quesadilla and the burger...not good either. The burger had onion rings and she specified she didn't want them and the waiter read back our entire order when he took it so it wasn't his fault. So they took it back and then brought out one without them (they honestly just took it out back, removed them and brought it back out) and then she looked at the cheese and it wasn't pepper jack. She had gotten rice instead of chips and she said the rice was gross. She didn't eat any of it and the 2 who got the salads didn't even eat half of what was on their plates. Now we hold 0 responsibility for what happened on the waiter, Jonathan. Who honestly did the best he could with the cards he was given.The problems were ALL within the KITCHEN. At the end of our meal we asked to speak with the manager. He was very understanding and took total blame for everything. He removed the quesadilla and the burger from the bill (we didn't mention the Jungle Chopped Salad issues to him) and gave us a free volcano dessert. (Which was AWESOME very tasty but the chocolate is kind of dry but still tasty, and the drinks from the bar were very good as well and why I give this 2 stars instead of the 1 it deserves.) Overall the food was good for myself, but my coworkers had a terrible time of it. It was frustrating and I don't think there's much more that could be done to make it right. I doubt any of us will visit this location again. (I personally would be willing to try a different location but certainly not this one. I doubt my coworkers will be so forgiving.) read more

I came here with the wife and kids and everyone had a great time. The food is nothing to brag about, it's comparable to Applebees or Chilis, but the experience is worth it if you have small children.
