Being from SW Michigan where we can get to about 50 wineries in less than 40 minutes, I wasn't expecting Cascade Winery to be in an industrial type complex. But I was pleasantly surprised that the tasting room was pretty nice and quite large. They have lots of seating in the tasting room and another room for private events. Our pourer was the son of the owner. He was very knowledgeable and fun to speak with. We tried all the reds, a few whites, and a specialty wine. They were all very good. Cascade Winery doesn't grow their own grapes. A good portion come from Michigan and others come from California. The winery is also known as the Jaden James Brewery. We did not taste any of their beers or their mead. We came home with three bottles - Raspberry Chocolate Silk, Symphony Blush, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm excited to share them with my friends.

I'm gluten free, so the beers were a no-go, but I did enjoy a nice selection of wine (the red blend was my favorite) and hard ciders (a mix of raspberry and strawberry was nice and mellow, but the blueberry hard cider was great as well). We also were able to try the jalapeño wine. Not what I was expecting, but a great experience and a new taste! The atmosphere here is nice and down to earth. I felt very comfortable and the people behind the counter are really friendly, and eager to help. I'll come back here for some relaxing time to enjoy a nice glass of wine or cider.

We were told to arrive at 6 for a 630 start but our tour guide did not show up until a little after 630 and seemed a bit disgruntled that we were all waiting on a super hot day. We were even told that they switched guides last minute to handle our reservation even though we were there with ample amounts of time. I'm not really sure why that was relevant to share with us but it was uncomfortable and made us feel like no one wanted to take our group. We also didn't get to choose our stops (I guess they said we didn't choose on time?? Though it's not like they had reservations for us, so I'm not sure why that mattered if we could have chosen the day before) but still had a great time! I think they should provide a bit more guidance with picking seats and how to work through but I really do think that we just had someone who was rushing through and it felt a bit awkward. I can't say that I'd opt to do this again in the future but glad I had the experience.

For drinks, I had the Dragon's Milk S'mores on tap and the S'moregasm cocktail. For such similar drinks they were wildly different. At 11% ABV the beer was quite strong and I really didn't taste the "s'more" flavor. Meanwhile, the cocktail was super sweet as expected. New Holland has a solid line of beers so you can't really go wrong, but I don't think the S'more flavors worked on tap. Everybody debates whether pineapple should be on pizza but how about mustard?! So I had to try the seasonal Chicken Cordon Bleu pizza and it was delicious! It had cut up fried chicken, ham, and different types of cheese along with scallions and of course mustard. Somehow, they made this work! Service was also great despite the crowds but my only real negative was that they sneak a credit card charge onto the bill and hide the notice at the bottom of the menu. That doesn't fee transparent when businesses do that but otherwise, we enjoyed our time at The Knickerbocker.

Bun was generic. My real issue was the veggie on it. My lettuce had brown/black tips. My tomato was soggy. The pickles had no crunch to it, they were tough to bite through. Fries that came with the burger were also not my favorite. Thickness between wedge fried and steak fries, rough chopped every piece was different size so how could you cook them all consistently. No crisp to the fries, fairly greasy too. I wont be back.

We took advantage of this deal as a family of four for lunch. The business model is bring your own food, or they usually have a rotating food truck to choose from... today was savory or sweet crepes. The place feels special. Rustic, nestled in the woods with an old abandoned home and renovated barn. However, on this sunny 40* day it's wise to wear boots or shoes you don't mind trekking through the mud from the parking lot to the cider barn. The igloo's were nice, hot today with the sun. We turned off the heater and stripped down to our t-shirts. The kids had fun drinking the NA cider and I enjoyed a couple of pints of the dry cider. The picnic table inside easily sat 4 of us and had room for board games to play. The "surprise" was a homemade cherry cream puff with drizzled chocolate on top. It was absolutely delicious. Overall, a great experience for a low key Valentine's Day lunch with our little family. That cream puff though... it really was the cherry on top! Check it out if you want a different experience. Pux Cider has been one of my go to concert venues. I have attended countless shows here over the…read moreyears and have always had such a good time. They cultivate a very fun and comfortable environment. Despite being a small space, they manage to pack so many events and people in to be able to connect. They often have game nights with Mario Kart, MtG, and lots of live music. I don't drink alcohol so I can't speak to the ciders but I know they have a good variety for different palates. They recently added some food to the menu which I think was a fun addition. It's bar food but well priced IMO. The staff have always been soooo incredibly kind and supportive of the local community. You can tell that they really value the people who come in and make a concerted effort to get to know everyone. I have only had good experiences talking with them and they always are good to remember me and give me a warm welcome. They do have a small parking lot and there's a park across the street in case anything gets filled! I definitely recommend checking out some local music here or attending one of the collabs with the Cheese Lady next door.

On Sunday afternoons, they have traditional Irish music sessions that I've participated in. The music sessions are fun and beginner-friendly which I appreciate. During the session, I noticed multiple groups of people come in to grab drinks, listen to music, and play games. The cider is pretty tasty and it's a great environment to sit and stay a while. I'm looking forward to when I can go again!
