I have yet to have a bad experience with Canes. And this time was no different. After attending a concert dropped by to pick up a nice chicken meal. Ended up ordering the box. The lady at the counter was nice enough to upgrade the drink which I appreciated. The chicken was fresh I literally had to eat 2-3 mins for the he chicken to be cool enough to eat. ITS ALL ABOUT THE TOASTED BREAD. I wish I could have substituted my fries for 2 more pieces or bread. LOL.

I normally do not eat fried food but thought I'd give Cain's a try. Surprise! Nice 3 pieces of chicken what was well prepared and served hot and fresh. To me fries are fries, I don't care too much. Great to have unsweetened tea available. Clean seating area, friendly staff and plenty of Jayhawks decorations and local Lawrence Kansas trivia ( did you know that Brian McClendon, a graduate of Lawrence High School and KU was the inventor of Google Maps? And his childhood home at Meadowbrook Apartments was the original centrepoint of Google Earth? Well, now you know.

All my chicken strips are as small as chicken nuggets. Usually they look better and are bigger

Bro the lady taking our order yelled at me and asked what drink I wanted and I was all like damn and we laughed really hard because of it and I got a drink that I didn't even want because she pressured me into it but it was so funny that I think we will be going back, also the food is delicious

On a Sunday when chic-fil-a is closed and you don't want over seasoned fries or super buttery toast you come here. The crinkle-cut fries are lightly salted, the chicken is made to order, the house sauce has the right amount of flavor, the toast is thick and could be toasted a little more but still great! I chose lemonade as my drink and it's split down the middle sweet and sour makes it very refreshing. I was greeted when I walked in the door. As always I washed my hands after ordering, the bathroom was clean and very modern...almost futuristic! Everything was up when I was finished and still piping hot after I chose a place to sit and enjoy it. Great place for a quick and filling meal and family friendly. The atmosphere definitely reminds you that you are definitely on KU territory. I love it because I'm a Jayhawk, but not sure how Haskell feels about it? Would've been cool to see a little bit of both but overall the food and experience was 5

Normally, when I have to wait 10 minutes at a fast food restaurant it's too long. However, in this instance I was patient, happy and content knowing they were actually making the tenders from scratch not frying frozen ones. Where else can you find that in a fast-food chain (except maybe across the street at Slim Chickens, which is also becoming a fast-growing chain)? Be forewarned, I've been to more than 60 Cane's across. Cane's is one of the top fast food chicken tenders in the country. The chain is fairly new here, but has been around in the South for a while (they are popping up all over KC). As long as you dig chicken tenders this spot will become a standby. What's so good about Canes? And, why is it so much better than places like KFC, Church's and Popeyes? Canes dishes out hand breaded chicken tenders, average fries and yummy sweet tea/lemonade. They've mastered consistency. Whether you arrive at 11 am or 11pm the tenders always taste the same and no matter what day it is the lemonade is hand squeezed daily. Fresh, quality white meat is always the norm. There's no gristle, dark meat or lukewarm chicken. We come for value, flavor and good service - and get it every time. A few things to remember about Cane's (from a Cane's expert): *The fresh squeezed lemonade is hand squeezed daily and brings a perfect blend or lemon/sugar cane and that favorite shaved ice. It does costs a few cents more than the sweet tea/fountain drinks - and it's worth paying. *The toast is soaked in butter and then served with a crisp exterior. It's as unhealthy as you could ask for - but tastes so good! *You might want to order an extra side of Cane's sauce. It's that good. Really. *They serve fried chicken here - and fried chicken. I hope you eat chicken. Don't ask for a salad. Or veggies. *Don't ask for ranch, honey mustard or BBQ sauce (we get enough of that in KC), either. It's ketchup or Cane's sauce. *The sweet tea is good. Like Southern good. Like KC BBQ restaurant good.

Canes is a great addition to the fast food scene in Lawrence for chicken lovers. Their "never frozen" chicken strips are moist and large, the Texas toast is toasted on the outside and so soft on the inside and the sweet-tart lemonade is the perfect way to offset the pepper dipping sauce. As some other reviewers have noted, they do one thing--chicken strips-- and do they well. You can get combos of 3,4 or 6 fingers with sides and a drink or a chicken strip sandwich with sides and a drink. You can also get additional strips and substitute the sides to create your perfect chicken meal. Staff were friendly, even though they were being bombarded by many eager patrons. The space is also clean and decorated to celebrate local high schools and KU. I will be a regular for sure.

Popeye's opened in the spring and had so much business for the first several weeks that they had to hire people to coordinate their parking lot. We stopped in one weekend afternoon and decided to check it out. When I was a child, we had Popeye's around, and I'm sure I probably had some Popeye's chicken, but I don't really remember much about it. I do recall that Popeye's went to re-branding a couple of years ago to call themselves "Louisiana. Fast" which moved them in my mind out of the range of Church's and KFC and into a slightly different category. But, I never really stopped into one, so I didn't know what the food was like. On our visit, I ordered a three-piece with beans and rice, and an extra biscuit, and Mrs. R. ordered chicken fingers along with mashed potatoes. I thought the chicken was pretty good; I had ordered spicy chicken, and it had a pretty good undercurrent of spice. Mrs. R did not care for her chicken fingers, and I agreed with her that the breading was too thick and they seemed more like a pre-made frozen product. We were both disappointed in them. As for the sides, they were also maringal, though I felt like the red beans and rice could have been better with a little more hot sauce in it. I thought my chicken was pretty good, and I would be good with getting that again in the future, but we both thought the biscuits were good and we were glad that we bought an extra one apiece. This is part of a series of reviews of places to get chicken in Lawrence.

Once we were ready to order, the owner was eager to help us make decisions on different menu items and even father is a sample of one of their flavored iced teas when my mom couldn't decide which drink she wanted. I ended up ordering for the spicy chick on a bubble waffle with fries, and my mom of for a BBQ chicken sandwich with a waffle on the side. The dining room was clean and comfortable, and the temperature was just right (a unicorn when my mom and I are together, as she's always too cold and I'm constantly undecided whether I'm too hot or too cold, especially during the humid weather air conditioning season!) Our food was cooked to order and done pretty quickly. By the time we got home the wake was a little less crispy, but that's to be expected when hot, fresh food is transported in carry out containers. The waffle was still delicious, nonetheless! The chicken portions were enormous and could have easily made two meals. Per my usual M.O. though, I was a glutton and ate the whole thing - haha! The sauce/seasoning wasn't exactly like other Nashville hot chicken I've had, but it still had a great flavor, and the jalapeños gave it an extra kick that pushed it right to the edge of my spiciness threshold. Good thing I had that delicious iced tea to wash it all down! All in all, I had a great experience, and this will definitely be in my Lawrence takeout rotation. I can't wait to try all the other flavor combos on their menu!!

This tiny postage stamp of a kitchen is tucked inside the dive bar Lucia downtown on the east side of the street between 10th and 11th. Not particularly a hopping kind of bar, but has a somewhat active live music scene that occurs mostly between Thursday and Saturday nights. So if you're going to base your entire business on one product, you'd better be on your A game all the time, because there's plenty of competition in this college town. These folks are ON it. Mission accomplished. Split a dozen boneless wings, crunch Thai with a friend. Couldn't believe it. An hour or so later I ordered another dozen. Both times we were told "we'll have it in the window in 6 minutes." And, you guessed it, 6 minutes later there they were, with ranch and blue cheese dipping sauces and plenty of napkins. How good are they? If you're calling in delivery (which I observed) or carry-out from that place with the Buffalo logo, please... just stop and reward yourself properly. Now I'm finding out they open specifically for KU basketball games. Talk about the perfect place to watch, because there's lots of space, there's an outdoor area if you wish to escape the dive bar part (which is kind of cool, actually), and plenty of TV screens. Good line-up of beer, full bar, world class wings. What's to not like? So good we plan to make it a destination for dinner this week. You'd walk by the tiny window they have on the street and never give it a second thought, like I did many times. Time to rectify that. These folks deserve our collective business.
