Looks like things are not same anymore in Rajni. We had get bad experience today.first of all they served our main course before the appetizers. I took shrimp dosa and asked him if this is spice hot waiter said no; I told not make spicy. Then they served dishes instead of all main courses together they brought in the entry with no kadidosa or rice. We had to wait for 15 minutes to get rice. And most horrifying was the Shrip dosa... it was spicy like hell.... I finished my water and my kids glass of water as it was too hot for me to handle. I asked to serve me water 4 times.... waiters are so unresponcive still they did not get me water! Finally I asked please tell me where is the water so I can take it myself. I got and took water. Very average food and unprofessional manager/ waiter. We were there last night to celebrate our Wife's b'day at 9.20 pm and you can feel he was not happy to see us there. No greeting and sounded unpleasant. Although the restaurant closes at 10 pm, he wanted us to order everything even before we sat in the table. Wish that was the worst part. Food finally arrived. Except the first item all other items appeared undercooked with less salt and literally no flavors. Worst part is all chairs were lined up and cleaning started even before we finished. This place is special. I am no expert but this seems more authentic than many Indian places that cater to more western tastes. Second time here and this time I got the non vegetarian Thali (a bunch of little dishes around some rice and a roti) ... so many great flavors, yum!! Really very polite and courteous staff. We had the non-veg thalis which I quite enjoyed - I haven't had one in ages! The mutton and fish curries were quite delicious and I took an order of the goat karaikuddi home - the scent of it is intoxicating! What I can't understand is why we were charged $11.99 per thali, when the menu says $10.49 each. Oh well! Just one more thing - the food is terribly spicy and needs to be toned down. I usually resist from giving a bad review. But I am have to on this one and here is why... We live right behind Rajani, literally within 0.5 miles. We have been there atleast 10 times before our last visit and the food was always great..With all the love for their food, we decided to order in food as we had family visiting, so we had kids at home and didnt want the hassle of dining in. We ordered indo chinese, we placed the order for $75, within 10 mins we got a call saying fried rice was not available, so we said Biryani was fine.We picked up food, the Gobi manchurain was not good at all, in fact they did not even cut the gobi into small pieces, the color, the odor didnt look normal. We were still ok thinking the rest of the food will be great. We odered only veg, but we were given Chilli chicken instead of Chilli paneer. Now without making a big deal, we called back and they agreed to give us chilli paneer. We went back to the resturant to pick up chilli paneer and we had told them to not make it extra hot(we tasted the chicken thinking it was paneer and it was extra hot). We asked the spice to be medium, but we ended up getting the chilli paneer extra hot. I cannot even explain the spice level it had. We are a family who eat spicy food and this was unbearable. We had to trash the food and we all ended up with tummy aches next day. Our family visiting NJ always have a lot of hopes of good food and they were disappointed. We being the hosts were very disappointed given the quality of food from a resturant we always liked. It kept bothering me, so I went back to the restaurant on a Saturday night hoping the owner would be there to give me my feedback. I only wanted to give the feedback and was not looking at anything else. I understand they were busy, there were customers in and out, so the owner said he would check back my order and would call me. Never got that call meaning they never cared about a customer. When you ask for extra chutney, You got to be kidding me? you will be surprised to see even smaller micro bowl this time. Seriously, I mean where did they even buy those EXTRA SMALL bowls? I have few items I always order like pomfret grill fish, maragadham soup, chicken 65 for kids, fried rice and mutton sukha, this is pretty much what I order. These items for me are just awesome, not once or twice how many ever times we ordered these items the consistency is the same. Only dish I once got disappointed was the anchovies dish and another one dont remember the name, I asked for curry types but got the dish like a dry item. In recent times they started this dosa night with buffet. Been there couple times, not really a big fan of buffet but definitely good deal. I love dosas so I went for the unlimited dosa night buffet featuring 20 varieties of dosa with few other south Indian items. It was a big let down. I tried 5 different types of dosas and they all had very little filling as you can see from the pics I attached. Definitely not worth the $14 price tag. If you're dosa fan, look elsewhere. We ordered the veg biriyan, mango lassi, and a rava dosa. The biriyani was pretty tasty and something I would recommend ordering. However, the dosa was not up to my expectations. The positive is that it was perfectly crispy; however, it was overly salty. The filling was not very tasty in my opinion and neither was the sambar. The chutneys that came along with the dosa were good. The mango lassi was delicious. My concern is the below average service. In short, the waitress was not very attentive. When we first came in, we were seated and we waited a while before recieving the menu and that too after we asked. I get it, maybe she was tired or just simply forgot... Or maybe she's new. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. We then asked for papad twice. We never got our papad. I didn't bother asking the third time. Really delicious and authentic Indian food. I came here with a coworker who is from India. Their spicy dishes are not for beginners, so tread lightly or you'll get a stomach ache. Try having lighter dishes if it's a late night dinner. A few weeks ago, we took our 2 year old son for his first dosa. It was delicious! I shared the masala dosa with him and my husband got a Mysore masala dosa. Both were delicious as well as the side chutneys and daal. I had been coming to this location when it was a different restaurant and Rajni is a really great improvement. This is my go-to (southern) Indian restaurant in Parsippany. It is nestled away in a little strip mall that looks like the strip mall time forgot, but don't let that scare you away. The employees are always nice to me, and the food is consistent. My favorite two things to get here are the Chicken Curry and the Samosa (I keep it simple). Both are very simple to make but making them WELL is another story. They make it well every single time. I've had other dishes here but sadly I don't remember the names as they were ordered for me instead of by me. All I know is, it was all very tasty. It would have 5 stars, but I haven't tried enough of their food to give them the highest honors! We just finished our meal, and it was really good! The other reviews are right - it's definitely on the spicy side! However, we weren't surprised with it. . We did order two curry dinners. I got the chicken makhni and my SO ordered something else, please don't ask me what because I have no clue, but it had lamb and green chili. He really enjoyed it, and there was a fair amount of lamb. Mine had a ton of chicken. I think it's the most I've ever gotten with similar orders at other places. They were busy and it took a bit to order, but not a really long time. He was apologetic. The rest of the meal was incredible. They were so attentive, making sure we liked everything and had everything we needed. I don't understand the negative reviews with this - I think this was by far the nicest staff we've encountered in a long time at similar restaurants. Not that others weren't nice, but these guys were out -of-their-way nice. I think maybe it's a tad bit high in pricing, but not much. It's still alright.
