Since it's Monday it wasn't hard to get a table. Well it's a rainy day so I guess it will get packed on the weekends and warmer weather. I ordered an appetizer of chicken and beef skewer with spicy plum sauce and it tasted good. Today special was buy one and get one free appetizer so I got a free chicken wing. The main dish was really good. The service was very nice and the interior was very romantic and cozy. I would recommend this place if you are a Thai food lover. read more

RaKang was a great experience! The atmosphere and service was excellent! Very warm, inviting, clean and cozy. The food and drink were great. It was a nice change of pace and scenery from the other local restaurants in the area. I would definitely be visiting RaKang on future visits to Long Beach. I ordered the Panang Curry which had a decent amount of spice to it, not overpowering at all. The green beans were tender. For personal preference I would like to have more spice to the food, otherwise a perfect meal. The spring rolls were cooked just right...all around a great experience! read more

I'm glad to see an well decorated, comfortable spot on the West End of Long beach. The atmosphere is inviting enough and makes this spot great for a cozy date or dining alone. Even groups would be fine. So why the three stars? Two big reasons: 1) Consistency: I've been here a number of times and the first few times the food was soooo good (4.5-5 star status), then i saw a decline in flavor and presentation and then it was OK the last time I went. There's very little consistency and when it's not great, it's not really worth the trip. Seems that it depends on the staff/chef and for this, I can't give it a great review. Also, I noticed that recently they have run out of certain items on the menu. 2) Service: The waiters are nice, but seem to disappear and when they come back they seem to bring everything out at one time. I guess this also a problem of consistency. The pricing is ok and on a good day, it's a really great restaurant but I can't recommend because it's a gamble. The food taste fresh but has 0 flavor, none. Super disappointed, maybe all the locals are uncultured and this is the best thing around. What a great addition to the West End. We ate here after unexpectedly finding Swingbelly's across the street closed for the night, and we're very glad we did. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, I was impressed by the ambience. We ordered a calamari appetizer to start which was cooked perfectly- golden brown and crunchy. This was followed by a duck noodle soup and pad thai. Both dishes were amazing. Having worked as a waiter a thai restaurant for quite a few years I like to consider myself somewhat knowledgeable on Thai food and the food here is definitely up there. The service was fine although the restaurant was packed and busy and at one point they seemed a little overwhelmed with the large amount of people showing up. However, this didn't cause any noticeable delays with the serving of the appetizer and main dishes. Luckily we had shown up before the friday night crowds and so managed to get a seat right away.. One recommendation I would make is for them to process checks faster- ours was waiting a while to be paid. It's quick to do and that way they would get customers out and be able to flip their tables faster. But this was a minor issue. We'll definitely be returning. read more

I can't speak to the restaurant as far as dining in is concerned, but I can say that their take out is on point. I've been ordering from here for years and the food is consistently good and ready to pick up in under 30 minutes, which is great. I like my Thai food spicy and when I ask for "Thai spicy" level they only slightly hold back, where as usually you don't get much heat when you order take out or even at the actual restaurant in any Thai spot in this country (from my experience at least). The point being, the food hits the spot for me and I prefer it to the Asian Fusion place across the street. One day I will actually dress like a human being and eat inside the restaurant. read more

Having driven by this place for some months now, I finally got curious enough to look them up on Yelp and, after reading the plethora of pleased reviews, order take-out. From the moment I called, things didn't bode well. I saw the "Chiang Mai Noodle" on the menu, and suddenly became hopeful that this could be Khao Soi. Having recently spent some time in Chiang Mai, I have yet to find a place in NY which does it right. I asked if Chiang Mai Noodle was, in fact, Khao Soi, and heard a long exchange between two members of the staff asking each other if the two names were actually for the same dish until it was finally agreed that we were talking about the same thing. Uh oh... Still, I had to try. Let's just throw in some sticky rice and peanut sauce, and we have a great meal in the making. Walking into the restaurant, I had to admit it looked lovely. The dark wood paneling and muted lighting reminded me of the St. Regis Bar in Bangkok, and I hoped the confusion was all just something lost in translation. Getting the food home, I was impressed by the forethought used to package it. The noodles, onions, etc... were all in one container, while the soup and chicken breast chunks were in the other. Putting them together, I was disappointed to find that the noodles on top that were supposed to be crunchy were soggy enough to be chewy, while the base noodles underneath were so overcooked as to be a nearly-congealed ball. The chicken was of good quality, but the curry was too mild to be enjoyable. I turned to the sticky rice and peanut sauce, only to find jasmine rice and a very oily peanut sauce. I'm disappointed, but given the other reviews here I will be giving RaKang another chance. read more

I give major props to Ra Kang for opening hands down the most aesthetically pleasing eatery on the west end. Decor and lighting is really cool. Definitely a great look for a date spot. My girl loved it. However......... What is up with these tiny portions? We had basil shrimp rolls as an appetizer, green curry chicken and lar nard for entrees. I left the restaurant STARVING. Like I swear to God I went home and made myself a second dinner. They should use a bigger size shrimp for the appetizer, 5 small shrimp for $9 bucks? No bueno. Green curry chicken was delicious, but I could've eaten two of them. And the Lar Nard was served as a soup, which we weren't expecting (in all my past experience it's a broad noodle dish served on a plate). Service was great at first but by the end of the meal it was very spotty. Cute presentation and cool decor only get you so far. The plates need to be bigger. If they're worried about food cost, they could raise the prices a couple bucks. There's no reason for an average sized man to leave a restaurant hungry. read more

I have been here lots of times for date night with my hubby. The food is great, the decor is great - the service is always weird. I get seltzer everywhere I go - I have never, ever been charged (considering carbonated water doesn't cost restaurants with a soda machine a dime!) and last night I got charged $4 for 2 seltzers. That's not cool. I mentioned it to the waiter who got very irritated with me and took off one seltzer while muttering at me. I think it was more the dismissive, arrogant attitude of the waiter/host that bugged me more than paying for the darn seltzer. I loved this place but that will be my last visit. read more

Was excited to try this Long Beach Thai restaurant after seeing the good reviews. Arrived a little after their claimed opening time and they were still closed. They claim to open for lunch at noon. More like 12:30. Anyway, we were warmly welcomed and sat in their very nice almost Buddhist temple like dining room. Ordered curry puffs and they were excellent. Next was chicken satays which again were great even though the peanut sauce on the side was a tad bland. Lunch soon went down hill fast when served Penang curry that was watered down, oily and had no flavor or heat. Tried to tell the waitress and she told me it was because It was the first prepared batch of the day (?!). Very creative excuse but I just couldn't eat my entree. Wasn't going to bother ordering something else since it did take a while for our food to come out. What I did try and like was the prik king which was flavorful. Lunch was a bit disappointing but not a total flop. Not sure if I am going to come back and if you love Thai curries then I'd steer clear of this place and stick to stir fry and noodles. read more

Had a great experience here tonight. We took one of their 2 outdoor tables but there were people seated inside. It's beautifully decorated and the staff were very accommodating to our vegetarian restrictions with food. The table shared their Tom Kha soup made vegetarian by substituting chicken for tofu and it was one of the best I've ever had with a great lemony zing. We arrived less than 30 minutes before close and they seated us gladly and did not rush us. Highly recommend their drunken udon noodles (Kee Mao Udon). Most of the food doesn't come very spicy even if it has a spice icon on it, so if you want spice make sure to tell them or ask for Chile paste (which they happily provided for us). Was there a change in ownership or chef? This went from my favorite restaurant to a disappointment. The Hot sweet Basil (same dish I've been ordering for a few years) was so bland it was tasteless. My 4 year old who used to cry from eating it agreed it had no taste at all. I'm really disappointed my favorite Thai restaurant keeps failing me. My girlfriend and I have eaten here once or twice before and I've ordered takeout many times with no issues, however, our experience this past Sunday evening warranted a review. This review serves more as constructive criticism for the restaurant owners than a complaint. We arrived around 8:15 PM on a Sunday and were promptly seated. No one came to take our drink order for over 20 minutes. Since it took so long, we also ordered our food (2 salads, spring rolls, and 2 noodle dishes). The salads came in about 10 minutes, however, the spring rolls never came and our entrees took over an hour to come (I know because I set a timer on my phone). At no point while we were waiting did anyone come check to see how we were doing, apologize for the wait, or offer us anything for having to wait so long. When the bill came, the spring rolls were on there despite never being delivered to our table. I saw similar issues with every other table's checks while we were there. The root of the issue seemed to be that the kitchen was backed up, seemingly because they were overwhelmed with takeout/Grubhub/Uber Eats orders. If you cannot accommodate both takeout orders and your actual in-person customers, the latter should take priority, as they are the main reason your brick and mortar location can remain open. read more

I came here once for takeout and once for lunch. For takeout I ordered the shrimp summer roll and tom yum soup. The soup was hot and the perfect blend of sweet and sour, and the summer roll was fresh and tasty. Servings appeared small but I felt very full by the time I was finished. I came back a week later for lunch and we got the crispy shrimp basil roll, pad thai, and lychee iced tea. Everything was delicious. Service was a little dicey as the server kept disappearing, and the restaurant was empty which makes me wonder if they get enough business. My family of four dined out in Long Beach while we were on vacation this winter. This restaurant is a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The decor and atmosphere was just right and the washrooms were modern and fancy. We are from Vancouver that is known to have great ethnic food so we are a little picky when it comes to asian food. RaKang served some of the best Thai foo we have ever had. Here are some of the delights we ordered. First we started off with Thai iced tea. Bought me back some memories walking the streets of Thailand drinking this tea from plastic bags. Great authentic taste. We started off with spring rolls, steamed dumplings and gyoza. All polished off by my kids. Thai chicken salad was fresh and tasty. Pad Thai had the perfect blend of sour and sweet. Big Shrimp vermicelli hot pot was tasty......did i say big shrimp? Lastly we tried the pork chops which was also a perfect blend of spice. The kids then demanded green tea ice cream which had lots of matcha flavor. I would say overall the meal was authentic, tasty, kid friendly and fairly priced. Service was great and we look forward to coming back next time we are around read more

Must try!!! The decoration is modern (actually beautiful) and the inside is very clean. It's an open space with a few large windows and a floor to ceiling walkway facing beech street. They clearly have their stuff together although I only saw 3 staff members: one waiter and two people behind the counter. One of the two people appeared to be the owner who asked us twice how we were enjoying our meal. Everyone's food seemed to be coming out promptly. If we asked for something (napkins, sauce, etc) it came over immediately. Drink refills were given without asking. The food was DELICIOUS. We started out with potstickers followed by shrimp w yellow curry and duck w green curry. Very tasty. It was really great that they did not rush us after our meal was over... at all. My husband and I just moved to the area. It is absolutely wonderful to have an ethnic restaurant on the West End since the West End is spattered with mostly bar fare (burgers and wings). We found the menu here to be varied and with enough options for those who are not spicy/hot lovers or for those who are not familiar with Thai cuisine. The portions were satisfying and the 'heat' (aka spiciness) of the food to be strong enough to be pleasing to the palate yet not so much so that you cannot enjoy anything else. I had the Ping Yank (chicken) with spicy tamarind which was incredibly delicious. My husband ordered the jumpo shrimp/three flavors; he thought it was a touch too sweet -- but the components were tasty and abundant. We also ordered the brown rice which was nutty and flavorful with the right amount of bite/stickyness. The decor is very eclectic and inviting. The restaurant is not cramped, very clean and well appointed. My only issue was the waitstaff: they seemed unfriendly (to put it lightly). We will definitely come back and try other dishes..... Again, the food and atmosphere was wonderful; we only took a point off for the staff; hopefully it was just an 'off' night. read more

I was really pleased when dining in but the to go food is made sub par. I would ask to put the sauce separate from the meal because by time I got home it was watery and had no substance to it and made the veggies watery. Also I asked for spring rolls and I was given summer rolls so not pleased.
