I love Ra Kang for the quality of their Thai food and for the fact that they offer gluten free options. They take great care in ensuring that my food is prepared GF which I appreciate so much. The BEST Thai Food on South Shore LI! I usually go to or order from Thai Table or Tum Thai (RVC) or Chaba Thai (Long Beach) and I decided to give RaKang a try, since a friend recommended it. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines and some places try to make it but fall flat (dry, sticky noodles, watery curry, etc) and RaKang totally killed it! Everything my BF and I ordered was amazing, that we ordered it again two weeks later. Highly recommend the Green Curry, Panang Curry, Duck Noodle Soup, Beef Noodle Soup, Pad Kee Mao and Pad See Ew. The second Thai place to open the Long Beach, similar menu, may be owned by the same people, not sure. Good food though, I've ordered take out and also sat in the restaurant. We have ordered the wonton soup, shrimp with mixed vegetables, tofu and mixed vegetables and dumplings. Everything is very flavorful and fresh. Great food and beautiful atmosphere! Feels like a spot in Brooklyn... Nice servers and helpful in recommending food items. Been several times since the opening and will keep going back. Have tried multiple dishes, enjoyed some more than others, but overall, except on one occasion, everything was great, particularly fish specialties and noodle dishes done as soups. I have made some requests, like no crab stick (what is that anyway?!) and sliced duck in duck dishes. Love the spice and spicy condiments! Beef salad great as are the skewered lamb and chicken w various sauces. Only downside is attractive windows are drafty and no liquor license (but that makes it a BYOB which, honestly, is better!). I ate here last night for my friend's birthday and we both loved it. It looked a little bright from outside but inside the lighting was lovely, as was the decor. The service was great... warm, friendly and attentive but not overly so. The food was delicious! I started with the crispy duck salad (which would make a perfect lunch on its own), I thought it was a little heavy on the onions but otherwise loved it... crispy flavorful chunks of duck that was mild and not at all gamey. The flavors were beautiful and there was plenty of fresh cilantro in it. I had the mussaman curry and loved it, mild and flavorful. I always get Thai iced tea when I go out for Thai food and theirs was as hood as any I've had. I liked that they used crushed ice and not too much of it, not too much milk either, it was just right. My friend started with the basil shrimp, I had one and loved it... the shrimp tasted very fresh, slighty sweet and perfectly cooked. She'd been craving Pad Tha and was happy with it. We both felt the duck salad was the highlight of the meal and would definitely come back for more. read more

Everything was delicious!! We ordered the fried tofu and spring roll appetizers, and the vegetable pad thai as an entree. They don't have their liquor license yet so you can BYOB. RaKang is terrific if you go to the restaurant. BUT the take out service is terrible. Undercooked chicken, burnt Panang Duck. Both of these are great on site. Also they won't send chopsticks unless you ask. If you are more than 1 person you have to ask for more than 1 pair, no matter how many entrees you have ordered. 1 star take out/ 4 stars on site. read more

Just went here for the first time. The food was excellent. great Thai food! I have never been to Thailand, so I don't know if this is authentic or not. But it did taste great! We got the scallion appetizer and they were better than any scallion pancake I've had from a Chinese restaurant. Then I got the Thai basil pork stir fry. it was spicy but not overwhelming. I went in a couple days ago with some friends and was really disappointed. The food we had was okay, although the portion sizes were pretty small especially when you consider the amount of money they're willing to overcharge you for it. I guess the owners are trying to save money or something. My main complaint is for the poor service. I was bit surprised as I had gone in a couple of months ago on a relatively busy Saturday and remembered the service being pretty good. Guess there's been a change in management because it took forever to get our food and there seemed to be a language barrier with some of the wait staff. I could be wrong, but they seemed to be pretty inexperienced like it was their first day ever working anywhere. So yes, the restaurant looks nice and is very aesthetically pleasing as one reviewer said, but it's not worth the overpriced food and the poor service. I am definitely not going back there and feel sorry for taking my friends there. Overall, I would not at all recommend going here. read more

It's too bad to write this review because we used to like this place. But tonight, the service was not only horrible, but management's response to the bad service was so inappropriate that we won't go back. To begin with, we had a party of 8 and the waitress took a drink order for 1/2 of the table, then forgot to take the rest. When I pointed it out, she begrudgingly took the rest of the order. Then we ordered dinner. 1/2 of it came out. After 10 minutes, i pointed out that the rest of the meals were missing. They were surprised, then the waitress said there was a problem with the system that "did not print out the order for the kitchen." It took 15 more minutes to get the rest of the order, except that they missed ANOTHER order. It took another 10 minutes to get that, after complaining again. They took 10% off the order and i tipped just 10%. After we left, we discovered that my sister in law left her pocketbook there. She went back and the waitress complained that we had left a bad tip! Frankly I debated at 0 or 10% - my wife convinced me to leave anything at all. The waitress said "you are lucky I returned your pocketbook at all!" - can you imagine? This place needs a serious change in management and ethics. Do not go here. read more

Awesome!! Went here tonight for dinner with my boyfriend. Started off with the fried sui mai appetizer and an order of pad Thai. Both very delicious. My entree was the Massuman curry and he had the pineapple curry duck. Mine was very good but his was absolutely amazing! So flavorful! This place is small and it was crowded as it was a Friday night at 8pm... however they seated us right away (we had a reservation) and although the space is small the decor is really cute and it was very clean.. we liked the ambiance a lot. Staff was pleasant and the food didn't take very long at all. Also very reasonably priced. Will be returning to Ra Kang very soon. read more

overpriced for what it is..we had thai wings app..i had pad thai food was ok However my wife ordered the short ribs in yellow curry tougher then rubber,,,all they did was offer her a scoop of green ice cream in its place..her mistake was trying to eat it at all ..chewed pieces but all back on plate and more then half left.they should have offered her another choice then charge us 22.95 for a non edible dish. very poor on managements part..we live local but will not go back read more

Ok so we came here in December when they just opened and food was amazing portions were a lil small but they didn't have a liquor license so it was byob and all was great!! I went yesterday with my hubby and it was just ok! Someone wrote about the menus being tacky and they were right!!! The menus were taped together and old and ratty looking! The food was ok nothing great but def not bad. The prob I had was the price. Our appetizer of spring rolls were bite sized they were only 5.95 but it was a baby portion and im no heavy eater. My husband ordered peanut chicken and its $18 for 2 small chicken breast, Jasmine rice, and a few steamed pieces of bok choy...not worth it!! I had a chicken pad thai and again it was a small portion for $11.95. My hubby had 2 Thai beers so our bill was 50 bucks with tip $60 and we left hungry. It just was not worth the $$$. Id rather go grocery shopping and buy my organic food cook a great meal and have left overs and tons of beer. read more

FINALLY !! a real authentic Thai restaurant not only in Long Beach but on Long Island. I work on the upper west side of Manhattan where there are several fantastic authentic Thai restaurants that I frequent. When I drove by this restaurant last week I told my husband lets try it but it is probably not authentic Thai food. WELL I was surprised. The dishes I had were exactly the same taste and quality of the best Thai restaurants in Manhatten. The decor is very nice and the staff tries very hard to be warm and helpful. My wife and I went yesterday to Ra Kang for dinner using a restaurant.com certificate. This was the first time we have eaten at this restaurant and did not know what to expect..Ra Kang was clean and airy as well as quite attractive.We were seated immediately and proceeded to order three appetizers a spring roll some dumplings and a fried scallion dish. All of the appetizers were very good however they appeared to be expensive in comparison to portion size.We then ordered a wonton soup which was flavorful and excellent. After this we then proceeded to order 3 entrées two pad Thai (one with broad noodles)and a Thai fried rice. The entrées were great especially the pad Thai which was among the best I have ever eaten. Service was excellent and responsive and we never felt abandoned. The price to value ratio is about average except for the appetizers which were below average for this type of restaurant. All in all this was a excellent experience and I look forward to returning in the near future. read more

Great addition to the West End. While the service can be a little slow when they are busy the food is always worth the wait, and the staff are gracious and acknowledge the wait. The Edamame and the potstickers are excellent appetizers. The Chicken with cashew nuts, and the beef and chicken skewers with peanut sauce are also very good. I'm a home chef so I'm a bit particular. We ordered in; which is not the best way to test a chef, but I found the few appetizers we ordered to be less than impressive. We had spring rolls, shumai and calamari. Especially disappointing was the squid, although it was well seasoned, it was way too toothy and the serving was pitifully small. On the brighter side - the dipping sauces were very nice. Also ordered in green tea ice cream - but I can't comment, because as of this writing I did not try it - I'm hoping its a saver. read more

I was there on a Thursday Evening the food was good. The problem is I ordered the tofu appetizer and the served it to the table next to me, the couple sampled the tofu and told the waitress they did not order it the waitress picked it up walked to the back then brought it to our table. I could not believe it I watched her and the tofu was already dipped in sauce from the table next to me. It bothered me so much I had to write a review. I even told the waitress I don't want it you already served others the same plate. They said I didn't have to take it did not even offer me a new one but at that point I would not have taken it. read more
