I ordered tonkatsu ramen and it was delicious. The hot creamy pork both just hits it home for me. I'd definitely come back here again next time to try other dishes. I recently visited Rakkii Ramen and ordered two tonkotsu ramen--one with extra chashu (an additional $4.00) and one with extra bamboo. My total came to $39.98. Like many people today, I'm mindful of what I spend dining out, so I expect good value for the price. Since I live in South Jersey, I brought the food home to eat later. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The ramen included four slices of chashu (pork belly), but three of those slices were entirely fat with no meat. I understand that pork belly naturally contains fat--that's part of what makes it flavorful--but receiving pieces that were essentially all fat made the dish unpleasant and felt like poor quality control. I called the restaurant to share my concern, but the response was underwhelming. I was simply told the manager would be informed. When I asked if there was anything further that could be done, I received no real resolution--just a basic explanation of what pork belly is. As someone who understands the product, that explanation missed the point. The issue wasn't what chashu is--it was the quality of what was served. Everything else about the meal was fine, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. However, customer service matters just as much as the food. A simple effort to address the issue or offer a solution would have made a big difference. As a former business owner, I've always believed customer satisfaction should be a top priority. We went out to lunch and were craving Japanese noodles. We ordered the Osaka Beef noodles and Tonkotsu Ramen. The Tonkotsu Ramen soup was delicious, the pork broth had a nice color. It was the best part of the soup. It was so savory. The marinated egg was soft and the yoke was perfect. The noodles were tender. The pork strips were soft and tender. I think they were too thin. Other Japanese ramen restaurants have the pork strips about 1/4" thick. The portion was good for snacking! I wish it was a little more. The bamboo shoots and wood ear mushrooms were nice and firm. We also ordered the Osaka Beef noodles. The braised beef has a light sweet marinated taste. The beef broth was clear light brown color. The beef was extremely tender and soft. We both enjoyed our order. The price was a little expensive for the portion of the soup. But overall this was a great place and we would go back here again. read more

This is the 2nd location I have been to, and it was JUST as delicious as their Long Island restaurant. I had the pork Gyoza which was fried very well. They were pipping hot, crunchy and seasoned perfectly. I also enjoyed the Tonkotsu Ramen which was so filling. Absolutely filling and satisfying on all levels. Was staying at the Hyatt Regency Hotel nearby and was looking for places to eat. Rakkii Ramen was within walking distance or you can use your favorite delivery service. Their Tonkatsu Ramen is where it's at. Soup is super flavorful. Best part is that they offer gluten free noodles as an option which is pretty rare to find. Highly recommend getting the sweet potato tempura! The restaurant is very large, there was a party of 10 seated next to us and there was still so much space! So a great place to bring friend to! While dropping my kid at school, we decided on ramen since it's so cold now. She got the spicy tonkatsu ramen and I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu ramen and they were both so good! Service was a bit slow but they were nice. It was clean and cute indoors. A bit on the chilly side near the doors but it was funny how warm the bathroom was- they should just bring the heater out into the dining room. Haha. My one issue is the portion is pretty small for the price? Given the price and vibe, it's a great place. Good portions. Slightly disappointed that the hot tea (even the genmaicha style brown rice tea) is a tea bag served in a paper cup. It was decent tea but not the same as traditional Japanese loose leaf. The udon was flavorful and yummy. The mushrooms were very good. The bathroom had mouthwash which was a unique nice touch. The "chicken karaage" is just a fried chicken cutlet that's been cut into strips. I'm all for reusing the same items across multiple dishes but calling this karaage is extremely misleading. The chashu in their chashu buns is the same as the ones they used to top their ramen. 2 paper thin slices of pork belly. It's lackluster in both the buns and the ramen. To end on a positive note their flavored Japanese iced teas are enjoyable. Lots of good ramen options in the area, sadly rakkii ramen is not one of them. read more

I have walked pass this place many times and have been meaning to try it out. So glad that I finally did! We were looking for a new place to try out and I was feeling ramen (as I do a lot). We didn't want to go to our go-to so my bf mentioned this place. Since it was a Monday night, we were able to get a parking spot on one of the side streets off of George St fairly easily. It is likely that during more popular nights it will be difficult to find parking so make sure you give yourself some extra time and bring change for the meter. Great location since it's right literally on the most popular part of George St. but not ideal for parking for that same reason. That shouldn't deter you though, this place is worth a visit! Appetizer: Noodle Wrapped Shrimp (Shrimp wrapped with noodles, deep fried, spicy mayo & okinama sauce) It came with 5 pieces. It was as expected - the sauce on it was tasty and the noodles were crunchy. I liked it enough but will not be ordering it again as there are other items on the menu I would like to try as well. Entrees: Miso Ramen (Housemade pork broth seasoned with miso, ajitsuke tamago, chashu, corn, bamboo shoots, scallions, nori, narutomaki) I know - basic - but I always order it because by ordering the same dish at different places I can better rate the dish fairly. The service was great, they were very attentive and sweet. The décor of the place is cool and inviting. The bathroom was clean and I really appreciated the space heater in there to warm up the place since the actual store front was more chilly (perfect for eating ramen). They even have a mouthwash wall dispenser with one time use cups, never seen that before and that was a perk. My brother told me about this new ramen restaurant in New Brunswick so he brought me there to give it a try. Service: I have been here 3 times with three different groups of people and each time the waiters have provided excellent service. They are very courteous, friendly, and can explain the menu to you if you need help. Sukiyaki Udon: My brother said that the broth was very delicious. The beef was flavorful and was not dry like some restaurants. Miso Ramen: This really hit the spot with the flavor. The noodles were cooked to the perfect texture and the broth was delicious. Karaage Calamari: This was not too fried but was on point. It has flavor when you dip it into the sauce that is provided with this dish. Chashu Bun: This was actually better than I had expected. Give it a try if you never had it before. Kumquat Lemon Japanese Tea: My brother said this is by far one of the best kumquat lemon teas he has ever drank in New Jersey. This was one of the most recommended spots on Yelp and we were just passing through so it should be good right? When we were ordering I got a pork gyoza and chashu don. The rice was cooked well, with enough sauce to coat every grain. It had a lot of fatty bits so I just set those aside. I would suggest maybe other vegetables with it but by itself it was a good meal. Here's the verdict ordering ramen options in New Brunswick (best first): Ramen: Nagomi, Rakkii, Ani Buns: Ani, Rakkii While I still prefer the ramen at Nagomi, Rakki's ramen is decent. The buns are pretty okay too, but the buns at Ani are better I think. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't super packed. We were able to call 30 minutes before we arrived and made a reservation. The tables were socially distanced. We got the calamari and takoyaki as apps and they were super tasty. The calamari was really crispy and fresh. For ramen, we got the tonkotsu and spicy tonkotsu. Broth was really flavorful and I liked that the ramen came with a good amount of toppings. We have been going back to this place a couple of times just to make sure our first time here wasn't an anomaly. This place really satisfied our ramen and rice bowl cravings! We've been ordering the chicken and calamari karaage. My mom really likes the chashu bun - I like the meat but don't care for the sauce as it's a little bit off putting to me. Personal favorites are the chashu don (if you like Asian bbq style pork that melts in your mouth- quite fatty though) and curry fried chicken Don (can't go wrong with something familiar). Honorable mention to the sukiyaki don, black garlic tonkotsu ramen, and Osaka beef noodles. I'm a long time diner at Ramen Nagomi. I love that place and was really curious about Rakki Ramen when I saw they opened up. I give special kudos to anyone opening up a food establishment during COVID, I'm sure it must be tougher than normal. I went in the evening of this Labor Day holiday to have a nice date with myself and my Murakami book + rainforest sounds from YouTube (sn: a whole vibe) There are several tables outside in front of the restaurant and when I arrived, they brought out an additional one for me to sit at so I didn't have to wait. The wait staff was made up of one main server taking the orders and another person who seemed to be helping with the food running. If those two were just the owner and a cook/owner--great job! I got the Ceylon black iced tea unsweetened, takoyaki, and Spicy Miso Ramen. The Iced tea was very strong but was refreshing with my meal. You can get it sweetened or unsweetened. The $4.50 price tag was debatable though. When I got the bill I did kind of regret spending such an exorbitant amount on the iced tea, especially since I don't know what the quality of tea really is and if it's worth that price. The food overall was very *tasty.* I put this in asterisks because I really couldn't place what exactly was so different about the food to me, but both the takoyaki and the ramen were very delicious. The kind of tastiness that leaves you smacking your lips afterwards. I was pleasantly satisfied with my meal at the end of it. The takoyaki was cooked to have very firm batter, more similar to that of the batter around a corndog I would say (sorry for slightly crude comparison lmao) but the spicy mayo and eel sauce (I think) was unexpectedly flavorful. Not that I thought it was going to be bland but I don't find that Japanese food has very overt flavor like that, so it was different. I liked it! Lastly, the Spicy Miso Ramen was very delish. I liked tasting the spice at the end of each bite/slurp--it was like a nice little extra feature of the dish. The noodles were not extremely thick but they were pleasantly chewy, a different kind of noodle from the ones used at Ramen Nagomi. I'm not sure of the names of the types. The egg was perrrrrfectly gooey--done to absolute perfection, truly ! I would absolutely return to Rakki Ramen and try some of the other appetizers like the karaage calamari, chasu bun, karaage chicken, and gyoza. read more
