    Hot & Spicy Tofu Ramen
    Vivek D.

Ramen, much less good ramen, is pretty hard to find around this area. I stumbled across this as my girl & I were craving some ramen on a chillier evening and wanted something fairly quick. It's how we ended up here. I had a feeling this was quite the popular place as I used to see a ton of people walking in, anytime I went to grab dosas with my family next door. The inner ambiance looks a bit modern, but is fairly simple nonetheless with some standard tables and some long tables in the middle. There's plenty of vegetarian ramen options in here. Just gotta emphasize you want the veggie broth when you order. I went with the Hot & Spicy Tofu Ramen. My girl went with the House Ramen. The ramen itself tasted amazing. Huge bowls. Barely got to finishing the noodles, but ate all the tofu and veggies. Very tasty and had a nice kick to it. My girl enjoyed the House Ramen too. Only downside was the oyster provided on the side. It was a bit stale. Service is generally pretty quick, but it's only a couple people handling everything, so you don't get the quickest attention one may tend to expect. Still, we were done in an hour so you can't go wrong.

Rai Rai Ramen has just overtaken Ajika Ramen as my absolute favorite ramen restaurant! It is that good! The broth is that flavorful and seasoned. The charsiu is so soft, it almost melts on your tongue. The fungus and scallions add a delectable flavor. The boiled egg is the perfect added touch. Ofcourse, I cant forget the ramen itself, where the noodles werent limp or mushy and were cooked just right. The coconut milk tea was very enjoyable. If youre on Route 27, definitely stop in! Its in the Plaza 27 in North Brunswick.

Nice bowls of hot ramen and katsu chicken and green tea for the three of us. Small place, but busy, tucked next to a ShopRite. Katsu was nice size breast w panko crust sliced and dipping sauce. Three bowls of ramen, one spicy. Great service, constantly checking on us, refresh water, and seemed to care if we liked the ramen. Plenty of noodle, mine had sea weed, fish cake, bamboo shoots and pork char sui. Definitely come back

The food here is very good, which is earning them a three. However, the ambiance and service at the East Brunswick location are significantly better. I wasn't checked in on once during my meal and had to request napkins and chopsticks as there were none at my table. The dining area also had Fox News playing on full volume the entire time I was trying to enjoy my lunch. I completely understand having the news on, but there is a reason that they have subtitles. It was very hard to just disconnect and enjoy my lunch in peace. I will be sticking to the East Brunswick location from now on.

The parking lot can be a little tight/small if it's during peak hours so just be aware of that. I came for lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was moderately crowded. Service was quick, the ramen amazingly flavorful. Each bite was better than the last. Perfect spot for a cold day!

Rai Rai is one of my go-tos in the area for a hot bowl of ramen! I may be biased as this was where I had my first bowl of ramen, but it is one of my favorites. I usually try something different. My favorite is probably the mapo tofu ramen, which combines my favorite dish with noodles. However, this time I tried the tan tan ramen, which was equally meaty and hearty. Service is always fast, and there can be a wait if you go at peak meal times. I've seen this restaurant up its decor game over the years, and its a fun spot for a casual date or time with friends and family. I'm looking forward to the next time I can visit Rai Rai!

Came here for some ramen on a rainy day. The menu is a funny and interesting mix of all kinds of Asian food. There is of course ramen, but also some Chinese items, Malaysian stuff (roti canai), and even Hawaiian bbq like loco mocos. Super random and I don't remember them having any of this stuff before, but don't worry - the ramen isn't any less yummy just because they serve all this other food. I got the spicy miso ramen, which warmed me right up on this cold, rainy day. The beef and chicken based ramens were also super flavorful. The broth has a good depth of flavor, though maybe a bit heavy on garlic and salt. The only small negatives were that the ramen could've used some extra meat, and I would have liked the option to add some extra pieces. Also, for the vegetarians in my group, some veggie options for curries, fried rice, and some of the other dishes would be nice. The veggie ramen was great though! Overall, nice spot! Good food and cozy vibes.

Great food and generous portions! Tried the Taiwanese pork rice, great flavor on the munched port, comes with an egg. The mini sets are great, which is a small bowl of ramen with a side of curry rice, fried rice or gyoza. Server was friendly!

I haven't tried the ramen here, so this review is for the Japanese inspired dishes. I had the shumai for my appetizer. I don't recommend it. The shumai was really small and tasted and looked like something you can just buy from the store and heat up in the microwave. For my entree, I got the tonkatsu curry with rice. It was good but it could've been crispier, however the portions were huge! I also wish the curry was thicker and had more in it like carrots and potatoes. The restaurant has plenty of seating inside and is well decorated. The service is also good.

I usually recommend this place to people for ramen since their Akamaru modern ramen is wonderful. Today I decided to try something new and ordered their mapo tofu ramen since I love mapo tofu. However I was super disappointed at how disgusting it tasted. Although listed under spicy ramen, it was not spicy at all. It does not taste like any mapo tofu I've ate, not in a good way. It smelled and tasted like tofu and meat gone bad and sour with the saltiness trying the cover the taste. I would not recommend ordering the mapo tofu under any circumstance. It ruined my dinner appetite. I got the matcha bubble tea to wash off the disgusting taste and smell of the mapo tofu ramen. The bubble tea was good and you can taste the matcha. The mochico chicken was still great though and I like the sauce with the kick of spiciness to the sauce which pairs well with the chicken

Does this restaurant have Tonkatsu Ramen Broth?

I was drooling for it but they don't have it. They have shoyu, pork, vegetable and miso ramen broths.

    Is the Mochiko Chicken gluten-free?

    No it is not

I don't eat pork but I would love to try Rai Rai. Does anyone have any recommendations for ramen dishes that would taste good with the veggie broth?

They have vegetarian options! And, if you don't eat pork, do you eat chicken or seafood? They're also options for the ramen toppings.

Is the new location in East Brunswick open? Can't find anything online

Yes it's open! As of the last week in August!

The ramen is just as rich, flavorful, and comforting as the original. We came with high expectations, and both the tonkotsu and spicy miso ramen were as satisfying as ever. That creamy pork broth? Still unbeatable. The spice and depth of the miso? Well balanced. And yes, we definitely got the takoyaki again (some habits shouldn't be broken). One major plus: street parking is way easier here compared to the Bayard St location. No circling the block endlessly or needing to pay metered parking -- we found free parking right out front, which made the whole experience feel way more relaxed. Any downsides? The Easton spot is smaller, with fewer tables and a tighter layout. It feels more like a ramen bar than a sit-down social restaurant, which is fine for a quick meal or a casual date night, but maybe not ideal for bigger groups or a cozier intimate feel. That said, the staff was helpful and attentive, and the ramen quality hasn't skipped a beat. If you're craving Nagomi-level ramen but want a quicker stop with less parking stress, Ramen Nagomi Easton is a fantastic option -- same soul, slightly different setting.

I ordered a takoyaki appetizer and truffle butter tonkatsu ramen. Unfortunately the takoyaki was ice cold in the middle. I told the waiter and he kindly brought me a new order which was served nice and hot. The ramen was delicious with super rich, earthy, and flavorful broth! They also have the BEST eggs here with the gooey-est yolks! We were lucky enough to score a voucher for a free appetizer and ramen entree during our next visit, so we made our way around again 2 months later. The next time we came, I ordered takoyaki again and burnt garlic tonkatsu ramen. No issues with the takoyaki this time around! I loved how aromatic the burnt garlic in the ramen was, and as always, you can't beat their eggs! The staff has been really nice and attentive so far, and it's been very clean. Good luck with parking though! Finding parking here is a pain lol

We did not know what the tofu dish was and asked for some clarification but was just told it was fried tofu and that it was good. We didn't know what was really on it but we ordered it anyways. We didn't enjoy it but were happy we tried it. I thought my ramen was fine, not my favorite but no complaints. My friend didn't like her ramen so she asked for hot sauce, sriracha, and soy sauce to spice it up and the server was confused at first but was fine bringing it over once we clarified what we wanted. We also didn't love the karaage chicken. All in all, we enjoyed our visit there and appreciated trying something new. They give cute little cat shaped chopstick holders. We will not likely be back because it wasn't to our liking but think it is just personal taste not that the place was bad so we do recommend trying it for yourself. A lot of other people were there and seem to all enjoy their meals and said they come there often.
