I've been coming to Rai Rai Ramen since I first moved to the area a few years ago. After one disappointing experience, I decided to take a break. I'm so glad I gave them another try! This is my second takeout order since coming back, and I'm completely hooked on the mochiko chicken all over again. Good - not great. This ramen shop is located inside the random-est strip mall, I must have driven by it 100 times without realizing there was a restaurant in here. Ordered the spicy tan tan ramen and edamame. Edamamae was fine, not hard to do. The ramen portion size was HUGE, I probably finished only half of it. They have an extensive vegetarian menu as well as Boba drinks and sides. The service here is great and watching this specific restaurant go through many different cycles of management. It has always had top-tier service. The ambience is very chill with the TV there where you can watch football games to soccer and recently I watched the World Cup game there while eating, it was pretty epic. It's how we ended up here. I had a feeling this was quite the popular place as I used to see a ton of people walking in, anytime I went to grab dosas with my family next door. The inner ambiance looks a bit modern, but is fairly simple nonetheless with some standard tables and some long tables in the middle. There's plenty of vegetarian ramen options in here. Just gotta emphasize you want the veggie broth when you order. I went with the Hot & Spicy Tofu Ramen. My girl went with the House Ramen. The ramen itself tasted amazing. Huge bowls. Barely got to finishing the noodles, but ate all the tofu and veggies. Very tasty and had a nice kick to it. My girl enjoyed the House Ramen too. Only downside was the oyster provided on the side. It was a bit stale. Service is generally pretty quick, but it's only a couple people handling everything, so you don't get the quickest attention one may tend to expect. The charsiu is so soft, it almost melts on your tongue. The fungus and scallions add a delectable flavor. The boiled egg is the perfect added touch. The food here is very good, which is earning them a three. However, the ambiance and service at the East Brunswick location are significantly better. I wasn't checked in on once during my meal and had to request napkins and chopsticks as there were none at my table. The dining area also had Fox News playing on full volume the entire time I was trying to enjoy my lunch. I completely understand having the news on, but there is a reason that they have subtitles. It was very hard to just disconnect and enjoy my lunch in peace. I will be sticking to the East Brunswick location from now on. read more

Super random and I don't remember them having any of this stuff before, but don't worry - the ramen isn't any less yummy just because they serve all this other food. I got the spicy miso ramen, which warmed me right up on this cold, rainy day. The beef and chicken based ramens were also super flavorful. The broth has a good depth of flavor, though maybe a bit heavy on garlic and salt. The only small negatives were that the ramen could've used some extra meat, and I would have liked the option to add some extra pieces. Also, for the vegetarians in my group, some veggie options for curries, fried rice, and some of the other dishes would be nice. The veggie ramen was great though! Overall, nice spot! First was the Salmon Ramen (which was another customer's order) and then it was the Chicken Odon (which my cousin did not order yet the WOMAN SERVER forced her to try to see if she wanted it if she liked it) which made the rest of the interactions with the staff awkward. Because my cousin did not like the ODON and wanted the CHICKEN FRIED RICE she ordered. Adding more to the tension and awkwardness was the WOMAN SERVER and CHUNKY MAN SERVER kept circling our table watching us eat. (I paid it no mind while my cousin was peeping every move) EVEN ADDING MORE to the BS we get the bill and pay leaving a TIP for the YOUNG MAN SERVER (who needs to get a spine and tell the other staff what's right from what's wrong cause you knew what we ordered to the T as mentioned before). After leaving and getting into my car we see the WOMAN SERVER come out in search of us. She runs to my car and asks for the receipt (mind you they have SQUARE so they have a copy in their system of the payment) u give her the receipt and she asked NO TIP like I didn't give the YOUNG MAN a cash tip. What a fusion ramen restaurant with hawaiian offerings! The ramen is aite, but the curry plates and the hawaiian plates are pretty good. The garlic shrimp is buttery and delicious with the huge mounds of rice and mac salad. The short ribs were a little sweet imo but a good deal for the price. The curry sauce was strong on the worcestershire sauce but still very yummy. The ramen broth is good, but noodles tasted premade. I haven't tried the ramen here, so this review is for the Japanese inspired dishes. I had the shumai for my appetizer. I don't recommend it. The shumai was really small and tasted and looked like something you can just buy from the store and heat up in the microwave. For my entree, I got the tonkatsu curry with rice. It was good but it could've been crispier, however the portions were huge! I also wish the curry was thicker and had more in it like carrots and potatoes. I usually recommend this place to people for ramen since their Akamaru modern ramen is wonderful. Today I decided to try something new and ordered their mapo tofu ramen since I love mapo tofu. However I was super disappointed at how disgusting it tasted. Although listed under spicy ramen, it was not spicy at all. It does not taste like any mapo tofu I've ate, not in a good way. It smelled and tasted like tofu and meat gone bad and sour with the saltiness trying the cover the taste. I would not recommend ordering the mapo tofu under any circumstance. It ruined my dinner appetite. I got the matcha bubble tea to wash off the disgusting taste and smell of the mapo tofu ramen. The bubble tea was good and you can taste the matcha. Their short menu of Taiwanese specialty dishes are authentic East Asian dishes! Any of these are delicious and excellent and I'd recommend all of them in listed order. They're all what you'd normally find in Taiwan or East Asia. Came here on a Friday for lunch and we were one of the only people in the restaurant which led for quick service and overall a fast meal. The food was pretty delicious and filling as well which made it well worth the price! We had way too much food with a mapo tofu dish along with our own entrees, which our server did warn us about. We had the leftovers for lunch another day so no complaints in my opinion! I loved my mini combo set that gave a small ramen and some fried rice. I didn't end up eating the fried rice as we prioritized eating the mapo tofu first, but the portion was huge and it was just fine for another meal. The ramen had good broth and a nice mix of different ingredients so I enjoyed it a lot. The tofu wasn't as spicy as I liked, but it was still tasty nonetheless. We were craving ramen when we were in the area and decided to go to rai rai ramen. The place itself has a good amount of seating and the service is great. Both of us got the Akamaru modern ramen since our waitress recommended it. I got mine with Gluten free rice noodles and my husband got his with the regular noodles. Both dishes were absolutely great and had so much flavor. We also got bubble tea but they ran out if boba and we ended up replacing the boba with lychee jelly. The ramen soup was tasty and flavorful. Ramen had a good chew to it. The pork was melt in your mouth tender. My only criticism would be the fried oyster. It was bland, quite mushy inside, and I learned that I do not like bamboo. I don't know if bamboo is supposed to taste how it came or if I just found the taste to be "off." I ordered the Butter Corn Ramen. They have a ton of different options from the exotic Ox Bone to the normal Shoyu/Miso Ramen. They have pretty much every variation of Ramen you could think of which is great. The noodles were good and tasted fresh. The broth flavor was light, but good, not too salty. The pork charsiu was okay, it was really barbeque-y flavored which I personally don't find too authentic, but it was cooked well and incredibly tender. For an appetizer, we ordered edamame and a small Mochiko Chicken. The chicken closely resembled a Karage chicken. Flavor overall was good, but I wasn't in love with the type of batter used. Been to rai rai ramen several times over the years. Definitely a go to spot for me since it offers delicious food and is close to where I live. I personally love the takoyaki and their plate meals. Their kimchi fried rice is so good. Pretty much any plate meal I've ever ordered from here has been so delicious that I keep coming back for more. Not the biggest fan of the ramen. Just recently had the beef shabu shabu ramen and the miso charsiu. Broth of shabu shabu def had flavor and was good. Not a fan of the miso, broth felt sort of bland. This is a great Ramen and Japanese restaurant! The inside is decorated very nicely and employees are all very friendly and helpful. They are currently doing take out orders and indoor dinning, no outdoor dining though. The staff were all wearing masks and gloves and there is hand sanitizer located at all tables inside. They have a great variety of ramen flavors to choose from and also many appetizer choices. I highly recommend ordering a bowl of ramen and share some of their appetizers. I ordered the miso base ramen and shared chicken katsu and mochiko chicken. Mochiko chicken is a Japanese style fried chicken that is similar to popcorn chicken, but 100 times better! You have to order the mochiko chicken if you visit Rai Rai. The ramen was delicious, amazing broth along with chewy, fresh noodles.
