I've heard this was the best Thai in the area, but I was skeptical because I love Thai pepper so much. They totally lived up to the hype. I got the level 2 heat and it was HOTTTTTTTTT! I'm a huge fan of heat so when I say something is hot, it's hot. I would totally get it again though. The egg noodles just hold the flavor so perfectly. I happily ate off the portion 2 times. My boyfriend got the massaman curry which has potatoes, chicken, and pineapple. SO GOOD. I loved the balance of the sweet and heat. So comforting and hearty with the potatoes. First time take out tonight. WOAH. We had pad Prik Khing crispy. Crisp it pork w green beans and chili pepper. Ordered level 2 and it brought the sizzle! Then massamahan? Curry w shrimp, potato and pineapple. Level 3. It was so delicious but next time (and there will be a next time) level 2. So so spicy. Dumplings just delicious. Best Thai food I've had on the Northshore. We had the garlic vegetables and shrimp and the massaman curry both were very good, definitely authentic Thai flavors. The intro dish of rice and chicken soup and chicken wontons was really tasty too! And a special surprise for us was finding the Thai donuts, basically tiny beignets with a dipping sauce made of condensed milk and peanuts (many Thai restaurants around Miami have them - first time seeing them in Southern Louisiana) we will return! Come here on average about once per week for lunch. The food is always freshly prepared and consistently very good! I normally have the chicken pad thai and their pre meal teaser is the best! Not a ton of seating inside but I have only had to walk away once and that was only due to the fact that I didn't want to take a larger table for just myself. We were driving through Covington, Louisiana, on Saturday, October 29. We looked at several places to eat and decided to do a to go order at Rakong Thai because it was in walking distance to our hotel. Bobby, who took our phone order, was super friendly. We arrived to pick up our order and Bobby was there. He mentioned that the dumplings were his favorite. So in addition to our pad thai and won tons, we added an order of dumplings. Two women, were sitting in the restaurant eating and drinking red wine. They mentioned the happy hour wine special. Bobby then gave us the happy hour wine price and out the door we went. When we go back to our hotel, we first devoured the dumplings and wonton. My husband loved the wontons and especially the sauce. I loved the Bobby recommended dumplings. Just when we thought things could not get better, we had the pad thai. My husband and I both thought it was the BEST that we had ever had. Thank you to Bobby and the two women in the restaurant. We went there for the first time last week. Staff was short. So it was a little slow, but that's everywhere right now (get jobs people) and there are only like... ten tables. After talking about it for a couple months, we made a special trip here for dinner last night, a Friday, and arrived at 8pm to a dark restaurant. No sign. No explanation. No Rakong Thai for us. It was something of an out-of-the-way dinner choice for us, as we passed a number of other options on our way to Rakong, including other Thai restaurants that we thoroughly enjoy. We were just excited about trying something new. The adjoined restaurants were open, so it was not an electricity issue. There was no indication of any special circumstances surrounding their being closed. According to Yelp and the signage on the door, we were a full hour before closing. So, at this point, I guess the real question is this: Did we wait too long to try Rakong? Is this restaurant already shuttered for good? If so, maybe we didn't miss much. If not, we'll just miss out, as I don't plan to make another special trip to find out if they decided to stick to their scheduled hours of operation or not. read more

However, I felt the need to write a review because recently they opened up almost immediately after the area was devastated by Hurricane Ida and gave people with no electricity an opportunity get a delicious hot meal.
