Was very disappointed. California Roll seaweed was fishy and tough to chew, the avocado was mushy. Teriyaki chicken the teriyaki sauce was do watery. Had no flavor. The chicken fried rices chicken was rubbery. The only thing good was the dumplings. I also thought it was a BYOB but it's not and they wanted to charge me $5.00 to open it. Delicious, fresh sushi is on the menu at Raku. Prices for the special rolls are a bit high, but the regular ones are good enough to satisfy. I love the crazy dragon rolls with the big shrimp pieces. Go for pickup as the minimum for delivery is high and they can take a long time to deliver. read more

We have been coming to Raku since they opened (many years back) at least once a week... Absolutely love it! They have a varied menu, Something for everyone! Their sushi bar was the perfect addition to Ringwood, so happy they're here!! They have done catering platters of rolls for me as well. My boyfriend and I order take out from Raku every Friday night. We spend about $70 for like, six rolls and a few pieces of sushi...and we eat it ALL. It's so good. We get the Raku Special, Outta Control Roll and sweet potato roll every time we order, then we usually get whatever the night's special rolls are. Everything is always so yummy. Very nice place. Have been there many times. Tuna, spicy tuna, yellow tail, salmon skin, cal roll are all very good. We especially like the Ringwood roll. My family always gets the salmon teriaki too. Beef negamaki and Japanese pickles are our favorite appetizers. Always fresh. Friendly service. read more

My friend lives in Ringwood and suggested we go to Raku for lunch. Despite my one somewhat uninteresting experience there quite some time ago, I figured it was worth a shot since it was so close by and I haven't eaten there in so long. Service was civil, but not the kind of enthusiastic, engaged service I am used to finding in small restaurants. It was a slow Tuesday morning, and when we went in there was only one other pair of diners in the restaurant, and by the time we got our drinks (which were mixed up - a hard hfeat considering there are only two of us), we were the only two people in the restaurant. Despite this, it was a full ten minutes before our orders were taken, though we were sitting there with the menus closed from the time we ordered our drinks. The edamame was decent - maybe a touch too buttery, but still very good. I ordered my two favorite rolls - spicy tuna and spicy salmon - and my friend and I split the Raku special roll. tHE miso soup that came with it was excellent. The rolls were very surprising flavorless, the opposite of what I would expect from spicy rolls. The fish taste was barely detectable. It tasted like I was biting into oddly textured rice with a dash of tempura flakes. I wasn't happy at all with those.The Raku roll would've been a winner if, again, it weren't for the flavorless spicy tuna on top. The shrimp tempura part of it was excellent. I'm pretty picky about my sushi and usually only stick to one place for freshness, great service, and consistency, so maybe I always set myself up for disappointment. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by sushi restaurants that aren't my favorite, but sadly, I was disappointed here. read more

My all time favorite sushi place - after trying many other sushi restaurants in the area around Franklin Lakes, Montclair, and New York, I always find myself coming back to Raku. The staff is extremely friendly; their sushi is always fresh and delicious. You can't beat their lunch special either - two rolls and soup or salad for around 8 bucks. I love Raku! read more

It really is shocking to find sushi this good in Ringwood. Sushi is as fresh and creative as I have had in NYC. Owners are very pleasant and provide excellent service. I think most customers do take out but there is plenty of room to dine in and it is casual and quiet inside. read more

I tried this place randomly, all-in-all it's meh... But it's close to me so I might go back if I am seriously craving sushi... If you want great sushi there are much better place unfortunately I have yet to find one in this area. I alway recommend sushi suzuki in metuchen, long drive but worth it. read more

The food is always pretty good, but nothing great. Service varies from nice and prompt, to nice but slow. Pricing can be a little over the top, and some menu items have changed in the past few years, meaning less food for the money. In all. If you're in Ringwood and want decent sushi r Japanese food, go to raku. If you're looking for anything out of the ordinary (in terms of service, selection, quality, ambience, etc etc etc) then this may not be the spot for you. read more

Don't bother. I had hoped there might be decent sushi in town but to no avail. Being a little hesitant we went for very traditional items that are hard to screw up, but Raku succeeded in an awful experience. When they try to pawn off fake crab in spicy sauce as "spicy tuna" I have to draw the line...and who puts lettuce in a sushi roll in place of avocado? Guess it is cheaper. Bottom line...I will definitely NOT go back nor would I recommend to anyone. read more

Decent sushi for the buck, but you can definitely taste the fact that everything is frozen. I ordered 2 California rolls, and they were just a little above average. It was not noisy in there, so that helped. But, it is the best "cultural" food in the town mostly because all the other restaurants taste like they throw a packet in the microwave, (packet and food made in China) and serve it. Edit: if you want good sushi go to Circle 3 Farms on Route 23. It tastes fresh, it doesn't smell, and it won't give you a good reason to buy a new toilet. read more
