Raley's may be a little higher priced, and it may have less inventory compared to other groceries, but I feel it is an institution here in Brentwood because it has been there for the longest time. I reckon it has a fairly good cuts of meat if one desires a steak dinner and we have ordered a few cakes here for a special occasions. What I like best is that all four (most of the time) of its water refilling stations here are working and hardly has a line compared to Winco. I started using Raleys pickup when Shelter in Place started. My husband and I are Seniors and this is, or should I say was a great service. After receiving a coupon in an email for free eggs, I thought great I will place an order and get my eggs. But when I went to place my order it said there was a $5.95 service charge. The store had been mentioning how they were helping customers out with the pickup service so I called the store to find out if this was an error. The manager I talked with had no idea that the fee was being charged. Evidently there had been a fee but they stopped during the onset of the Coronavirus. Instead of the manager finding out if the fee had indeed been reinstated she told me to "Call the 800 number and find out". Seriously? So I did. The answer I received from Customer Service was "We did stop charging the service charge during the Coronavirus, but we did start charging again 2 weeks ago." Wait the virus ended 2 weeks ago?? Is the Coronavirus gone? When did that happen and why is everyone still wearing masks? On the Raley website the CEO used to have a large picture of himself on the main page saying how he was committed to helping the community. Now when you log on to their site there is a small "Covid-19" link in very top right hand corner. Cost of groceries have increased. Grocery stores are not losing money. To charge $5.95 is ridiculous, when I can just drive to either one of the Safeways...which I did. Evidently I wrote this awhile back...Yelp reminded me to post! read more

While it puzzles me why anyone would purchase a blow dryer from a grocery store, I can't understand why the store won't at least exchange an item that they know they sold without a receipt. So I run into here, just to pick up a bag of tangerines and 6 pears. When I get to Express the cashier tells me she's closed but lanes 5 and 6 could serve me. Of course both lanes have multiple people doing what looks like weekly shopping. So ok I stand and wait, another lady passes me by heading to Express . The same cashier greets her by name "Danny" and says I can help you and Danny says are you sure and cashier replies of course...I'm just assuming Danny works for Raley's...but my question as s customer my time is less valuable? Sad part is I normally shop at the Oakley location but was in the area. Not sure if management cares because it's only a loss of less than $10 because I walked out without my items...but thought others may be interested in hearing how regular customers are treated. read more

Store has a funky odor, almost like a Good Max rather than an upscale (pricey) grocery store. Clerks are okay. I was not overly impressed on my last visit. I only buy tea and the that I always get was suddenly not in stock. Most upsetting about that was that the Yogi brand (the one that carries my husband's preference tea) was on sale! :-( I was in line with one item for over 7 minutes ( long time for a grocery checkout with just one item). Even the customers here were less than my usual experience of friendly ones at Trader Joe's or even Safeway. This store is always my favorite "grocery store" to go to when i need only a few items. Clean store, friendly staff, and a drama free parking lot! With 5 kids, im at the grocery store @least 3x a week! During tonight's visit, i wad craving some potato salad with egg, which is usually sold in thier deli department. However, being after 8pm on a Sunday, the department was closed and thier was no other potato salad in the store for sale that had deviled eggs in it. Lo and behold a deli worker who was shutting off all the backroom lights (exterior deli lights were already off), gave me that look, that im enjoy my job customer service look. I come to this Raley's often. Not for full on grocery shopping but because we live near, it is easy to grab last minute items. A mom, with a sick three year old and even sicker 8 month old ran out of Tylenol. So in effort to stay close we head to Raley's. I find our items, Tylenol, eggs, cheese, baby puffs and head to the register. The lady who was checking was about to leave and a new checker was coming on. But she wasn't leaving without her two cents. She looks at me, my kids and our items and says " this is WIC right?". For those of you that don't know, it's a government program that aids low income families for basic items. Um no. Although I understand people needing occasional financial assistance and I in no way am hating in then, I am not one of them(and I have been fortunate to never have needed it). The comment was condescending and rude. To assume someone is on assistance is upsetting. Maybe I looked young, or haggered ( remember the two sick kids in tow?), Who knows. I told her not everyone who has children is in need of assistance. She knew I was upset and immediately complemented my son's bright red hair. The next checker took over and was extremely pleasant. She asked how my day was even though she has just heard the exchange. I told her I was really offended by the comment and she shouldn't assume someone was on assistance. The checker said the lady is new and was probably nervous. I get it, being new, wanting to say the right thing and be helpful, but I hope next time she isn't so quick to judge. read more

Have tried Raley's for the last 3 shopping trips and won"t go back. The prices are higher but I figured the better selection and service would be worth it. The selection is ok. No better than Safeway. But the service is subpar. For the second time I was hurried out without a simple thank you. This last time in fact as they were closing, and I get that they want to go home, but they don't post the hours on the door-and I was checking out before closing not after-no word from the cashier or manager who was assisting him. In fact with 15 minutes left I was in the produce section shopping and an employee was covering up food I was trying to look at! I get it you all want to leave, but anytime of day I've gone there Raleys is empty, are they just running out the clock all the time? The staff at Food maxx are much friendlier, and I can save money. I am surprised by all the negative reviews. Raley's is a a decent place to go for groceries. Safeway on Balfour is bigger, has better produce and is a bit cheaper. However, I like this store...homey atmosphere and has items I can't find at Safeway. The staff is not overly warm and friendly, but neither are the Safeway folks. I've had no outright rude people interact with me. The only true complaint I have is that when I use Instacart, the shoppers don't check expiration dates on milk, cheese, etc. I've had several way outdated items I had to be refunded for. Ok. Not the most "with it" grocery store, but damn...they don't deserve all these bad reviews. I am a person however, who is very angered by treating people of color, or religion rudely. Racial comments and rude treatment of customers is NEVER ok. The gentleman who posted this issue has my sympathy...totally unexceptionable. I ran in the store to quickly purchase a cold beverage. I saw that there were these coconut drinks on sale for only 99 cents so I grabbed one and went to check out. I got in the "Express Lane" so I could quickly run back to my errands and the man in front of me had a cart full of groceries. Mind you, there were two other lines open with very minimal people in line. The cashier didn't say a word and proceeded to check him out, which frankly was really irritating as Safeway is great about enforcing the "Express Lane" guidelines as they should otherwise what's the point? It was my turn to check out and the cashier said it was $2.50. I told her about how the labels said they were all 99 cents, so she went to check. She came back and said the ONE you grabbed is $2.50 and was very rude and cold about it when I know for a fact it was 99 cents. I didn't feel like arguing and holding up the line, so I left but I'm just very annoyed with how things are apparently not labeled correctly and no one is enforcing general policies within the store. I know it's not a lot of money we're talking about here, but it's more of the principal for me. I don't care to return to this store. read more

Worst experience by far!!!! So today i went in for some valentines day stuff and well my son really likes a kitty stuffed animal he saw there. so when we got to the cashier to pay i give her the cat so she can check me a price for it since it didnt have a tag and she automatically assumed it was lost by someone . called the cashier behind her asked her and they both assumed it was lost and had the bagger take it to lost and found. i had my 3 year old son with me watching all of it when all they where supposed to do was get a freaking price for me !! Then shes like we have to take it to lost and found incase someone ask for it so i told her he got it from where all the stuffed animals were she kept with her story of i think its stolen and we don't carry this after she brought me up and i paid by this time my son was very upset because the cat he wanted was taken away by the cashier and the bagger. After i paid then she ask me if she wants someone to check so i was already done so i told her no ill go check myself and what do you know they have them there !! So these people made my baby upset for no damn reason like you guys dont even bother to check what inventory you have !! They were more worried about the security doing his job then Helping me . Screw this place im never stepping a foot in here again . Management and the employees really need to get their crap together !! And not to say after i walked out the cashier still had the nerve to tell the person behind me the situation like it was any of his damn business!! Like can you greet him first ! I love our local store and want to give them a shout out for their constant handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. They have always been pleasant and quickly recovered with stocking their shelves in just a couple weeks. Their cashiers take sanitation breaks and spray down their carts regularly. The most understaffed store in the world. the PEETS coffee is not staffed. They use the deli staff which is already under staffed. I waited 10 min for service as a really nice lady said she would right with me but got caught up with a Cake order. She was doing a real job with the cake customer, but that meant she was doing a bad job with me (management fault, not her's).. Only one register open at the check out. 15 min wait and no calling up additional checkout. I will never go back. read more

Really gone downhill since they changed the layout, about 3 months ago maybe. Four main problems; 1. replaced a lot of premium brands with Raley's brands (Frozen veggies, Organic chicken, etc.), 2. frequently selling expired or nearly expired date coded products (lunch meat, hot dogs, more), 3. sold out frequently (Dave's bread, Just Mayo, more), and 4. its a crime scene at night, with brazen shoplifting happening every other time I'm there near closing time. If they want to sell commodity products, they need to lower their prices. No excuse for not removing expired stock, or not ordering more of the things people want. Hire some security at night. Otherwise, I'll just go to Safeway. read more

Oh em Geeeeeee!!! I had no idea what dinner was going to be since I can easily burn water. Decided to stop in my favorite grocery store to see if they could help me out. Sure enough upon entering the Deli dept, I found a motherlode of 'Raleys To Go' meals. Decided on the Chicken Verde Enchiladas ($5) which happened to be welcome vittles to cross my eating threshold (mouth). Incredibly rude service in the floral department. True, buying supermarket flowers aren't a big investment, but I'd like to be treated with a little respect for shopping anywhere, especially after I am being polite. If you want to be snapped at and called a liar feel free to shop here. I won't. Ever again. My cashier wasn't much better when she rang up my items and didn't want to help me get a perks card or noticed my sale items rang up full price. A baker also told me all of their specialty cakes are shipped to them frozen which explains why my peach cake tasted like garbage. I'm really surprised how lackadaisical, the employees are here about the wearing proper PPE per COVID guidelines. While the store at this location requires all customer's entering to wear a face mask, it seems the employees have taken it upon themselves to not following their own store protocols. I had a young cashier ushering customer's through checkout with her mask down nose and mouth exposed. Another woman working at customer service, with a face shield only and no mask at all. The employees here are putting their own customer's at risk for sickness under a global pandemic, disobeying state guidelines and their own store policy. read more

Raley's is the bomb when it comes to their bakery. You can tell that they use the best quality ingredients in the stuff that they bake, some of their cakes just taste so utterly phenomenal that I can't even believe I got them from a grocery store! Definitely, definitely buy anything from their bakery section and you will not leave unhappy. Their customer service is... kind of non-existent. I'm a fan of their bakery, just not of the customer service. I have walked by the staff multiple times with little to no greeting and no acknowledgment whatsoever. There's also rarely anybody around to help and you'd think maybe they're all helping the cashier, but nobody is there except for the one person who has to bag everything. The lines at Raley's can get very long though so if you're not in a rush, this place is kind of ideal for you, but if you are, it's probably best to come at a weird hour. The variety of grocery stores in east CoCo is pretty bad, but this Raley's helps fill in the gaps a little. They have a pretty good selection of organic items; most in a special section on the left side of the store but some mixed in the other areas. They have bulk organic oats and other items, too. The store is pretty large and pleasant to shop in, with a decent variety of non-grocery things. I've even picked up a couple of garden items there. All of the staff that I've interacted with have been helpful and polite, too. I wish they would boost the quality of their bakery items, or at least some of their bakery items: they do taste better than Safeway's, but if you look at the ingredients, it's the same fakey junk that the other guys are using. Butter and cream? Not so much. Preservatives, thickeners, artificial flavors and colors, and trans fats? You betcha. They carry some local produce, but although my friends have always spoken highly of Raley's produce section, I have nothing but bad luck there. While I was shopping there the other day, it seemed to me that they were way over-watering the produce section. Things looked soggy, not perky. I bought some organic sliced mushrooms for dinner anyway, but when I opened them that night, they were furry! They were bad enough that I threw them out and didn't keep them around to return them the next day. I'll stick with TJ's mushrooms, I guess, and local farm stands for other produce. read more

Raley's - Grocery Near Me - Brentwood, California

I have always heard that Raley's and especially the one on Sand Creek Road was so nice and better quality compared to Safeway so I thought I would try it for the first time. It was our anniversary so I went to buy some fresh crab legs as a treat. I thought the seafood area was small with a more limited selection compared to the Safeway on Balfour but since I was there, I bought the crab legs. They were immediately salty which is not a good sign. Usually king crab legs are sweet but these were just salty and nasty. We stopped eating them after a few legs but not in time for both of us to get sick later that night. This went on all night. I would never step foot back in that store again. I am back to Safeway which has an amazing butcher and fresh seafood areas. read more

Updated review of Raleys Brentwood. Is there ever a florist here!? Posted a review months ago how every time I would go for flowers, there was never anyone available to wrap them. Got a reply saying that the issue would be addressed. Came back recently for flowers a few more times. Still no florist. I ask and they always say "the florist is not here today." Is there really a florist at all...!???? I dunno.....I have started going to Safeway from now on who has a florist there every single time. read more

Someone answered and said they would check and then after 15 minutes on hold a female voice picked up and asked me to call back in 30 minutes because "they're probably on a break". I'm here at least once a week. That being said, I certainly don't do all of my shopping here, but then again... I don't do "all" of my shopping any one particular store. I have 3 or 4 (Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Raley's) that I frequent at any given time. Raley's offers an extensive selection, and the prices... although slightly high... aren't obscene. A big draw for me (at this particular location) is the deli/bakery, the food is always good. Often very good. Okay, so maybe it's not THE BEST bakery I've had the privilege of enjoying. Still, it's very good... and I can't think of anything better in our surrounding area. There are many reasons why I choose to shop at Raley's. One, no matter what I'm looking for... I have been trying to give this store the benefit of the doubt but my patience is wearing thin. I was a die hard Safeway fan, but found that Raley's carried my organic greens so I started shopping here more regularly. The lines are always long and they never seem to have enough check stands open, but I dealt with it. I realize Covid is going on but their stock and support seem to lack big time. Other stores don't seem to have such an extreme issue. This last time I used coupons that they sent me in the mail, some freebies and discounted items. Well, this is the third time that they forgot to scan them, despite me giving them to them personally, so that I didn't forget. All the manager said each time is, you can use them next time and they don't expire for a year! Crazy! I wouldn't have bought some of the items if I was going to pay full price. Honestly, not the best concern or customer service and especially from the manager. Safeway....here I come again! Raley's you really need to make some overall improvements...very disappointing. read more

You do not go to Raley's if you are a bargain hunter. It is expensive even compared to Safeway and I would guess that the same basket of goods at Winco would cost half of what it would at Raley's. If all grocery stores carried all the same things there would be no reason to come here at all. Raley's does have a fair number of hard to find items and that is what draws me there when I happen to be in the vicinity. In particular they carry a couple of varieties of very good pate (oddly enough, to be found in the deli cheese section). When I went looking for mint jelly (it is a yum condiment with lamb), Raley's was the only place I could find it. Still, the main reason I am even writing is to give a big thumbs up to the level of customer service. When I have needed help finding something not even knowing if they carried it most of the time the associate did not know what the item was never mind if they carried it but they have never let that daunt them, and they have always come back with an answer. On one occasion they had to hunt me down when they found it because I had given up. This has not been just one associate on one visit but four over three visits, so this is clearly a well ingrained culture. Wouldn't be great if this culture was the norm rather than the exception? read more

Wow - first to review! An honor indeed. What can I say? This Safeway is one of the best aspects of my suburban life right now. Their organic section is always stocked with fresh veggies and it's freezer section is downright impressive. With a selection of fresh, affordable, frozen goodies like that, why would I ever go to Trader Joe's again? (okay, I'm joking about not ever going to TJs again, but I'm trying to get my point across!) They even have a fresh selection of seafood, oysters, sushi, and an outstanding cheese counter. I love Raleys, I don't care which one you go to, they are consistent. I usually go in to get some salami, cheese, olives or nuts but I leave with half of the store. Recently I discovered their Horseradish cheese, it's amazing. The prices are high but the quality is excellent and much better than Sprouts. There is a nice selection of holistic items, natural foods and juices. The staff are always helpful and have good manners. read more

I stopped shopping at this store because their manager is rude when I called in and complained about an employee of theirs not wearing a face mask but just a face shield. As you enter the store there's signs that everyone must wear a mask. Face shield is not a mask! This staff was bagging groceries and have close contact with customers. I wasn't in that check out lane but on one after it . The store manager defended his staff and says he cannot discuss her medical condition with me and I said I don't need to know anything about it but she shouldn't be in close contact with customers . I shop at this location very often because it is much nicer and cleaner looking than the Oakley location. The staff is very friendly and I like the atmosphere of this particular location. I like the fact that I can buy organic and local produce here and compared to Winco, the produce always looks good. I really like the selection of "natural foods", although I wish the bulk section was better taken care of. I've learned to be cautious when shopping in this section however, due to it being neglected compared to the rest of the store. I was going to pick up some tempeh until I realized it was a few days expired. I came back the next week for my weekly shopping trip to pick up some tempeh and realized that it was the same expired tempeh from before. It was there for about 2 weeks. As far as the bulk goods in the natural section, I was going to buy some nutritional yeast on a couple of visits and decided to wait until I could make a trip to whole foods. The last couple of times I've been the nutritional yeast hasn't been rotated or touched. Other than these few things, I really do like this location. I never really have any problems. The staff is always nice, friendly and willing to open up new lines. The store is bright and clean. The food (minus a few things in the natural section) is always fresh and good. I love the bakery. For people who think Raley's is expensive, you really do get what you pay for. If you live off of processed and boxed foods like Mac 'n Cheese and hamburger helper of course Winco will be your best bet. You can get cheap boxed food all while shopping in a sketchy, dingy warehouse with horrible waxy produce and expired bread/baked goods. It might cost you a few more dollars, but at least when I shop at Raley's the store is clean, bright, friendly staff and apples that don't taste or look like cardboard. That being said, Raley's has a great selection of foods. read more
