He referred me to his colleague Devon who knew exactly what I wanted and gave me recommendations for other beers like it. I felt compelled to share my experience with the outstanding customer service I recently received at the Total Wine location in Pleasant Hill. I live close to a BevMo, so from a convenience standpoint, BevMo should be my obvious choice. Unfortunately, my experiences with the two retailers have made the decision much easier than geography would suggest. The difference in customer service is so dramatic that, despite BevMo being just up the street, I would much rather drive farther to shop at Total Wine. About a month or so ago, I purchased a lighter from Total Wine. I was having trouble with it and decided to stop by the store to see if someone could help me figure out what I was doing wrong. I have to admit, I rarely read directions (lol), and I also have a bad habit of throwing away packaging and receipts sooner than I should. I walked into the Pleasant Hill Total Wine and approached the customer service desk. I explained the problem and was upfront that I had neither the receipt nor the original packaging, and that the purchase was approximately a month old. The employee's immediate response was: "No problem. Would you like to exchange it for a new one?" No interrogation. No lecture about the return policy. No insistence that I produce a receipt I no longer had. No implication that I was somehow inconveniencing them. And certainly no "we'll make an exception this time." Just a friendly, straightforward solution. Wow. A retailer that actually understands what customer service is supposed to mean. This experience also highlighted, once again, why my experiences with BevMo have been so disappointing by comparison. BevMo may have the advantage of being closer to my home, but convenience means very little when the customer experience leaves you feeling like you're asking for a favor rather than being treated like a valued customer. There is a fundamental difference between simply enforcing policies and actually taking care of customers. Total Wine demonstrated that difference in a matter of minutes. They could have easily found reasons not to help me, given that I had no receipt or packaging and the purchase wasn't recent. Instead, they chose to solve the problem. That decision matters. Retailers sometimes seem to forget that customers have choices. I don't expect every situation to result in an automatic refund or exchange, and I certainly don't expect a company to ignore its policies. What I do expect is reasonable judgment, common sense, and a genuine effort to help. The Pleasant Hill Total Wine team delivered exactly that. Kudos to the staff and management at this location. You made a very small issue incredibly easy to resolve, and in the process, reminded me why good customer service still matters. BevMo may be closer to my house, but Total Wine has earned my business. read more

My review is mainly for the class, Wines from the Old World. Just $20 included a seated two hour slide presentation by the wonderful host Spencer, tastes of 9 different European wines, a bottle of water, cheese and crackers, and small sandwiches. Quite the bargain and the wines were very good! We were even offered a discount to make purchases after the class! It was a great learning experience and fun way to spend the evening. After class we shopped the store and found some interesting and well priced items to buy. I found the store to be clean, bright, well stocked, and all the employees were very friendly. LOVE THIS STORE!!! A shoutout to Ted the Sommelier in helping me pick out a few nice bottles for gifting and self consumption. Upon entering the store - you will see a nice, clean and roomy store. On the left (and if they're not super busy), ou will see a few staff greeting you and ready to assist if you have any questions. I was lucky enough and Ted the Sommelier was helping me. Having explained to him that I'm looking for 2 nice bottles for gifting, price range, and taste preference, Ted helped me pick out a few bottles. Along the way, he also explained / educated me on some wine knowledge. This store is HUGE and the selections are vast! Welp, this is it for me and Total Wine. I defy you to find any beer brewed this year on the actual shelves. In the freezer you can find recent stuff. On the shelves it's old, sometimes year old or more beer. See my screenshot. Today is March 27, 2025. I was trying different beers and the one I took the picture from was brewed in May of 2024. It's like that all over. This is not acceptable. I buy some Bare Bottle beers. I'm at the register forever because the guy can't get the register to ring up any of the beer. This is absurd (I give him credit, there was only one line as usual and it was long and he called me over, which generally doesn't happen here). After a while he gets it rung up - a four pack of Bare Bottle IPA is 17 bucks. Singles are 7 bucks a piece. The same beer you can get up the road at Monument Liquors for 4.50 a piece. 7 bucks a can here. That's absurd. I don't care what beer is it, 7 bucks for one can of beer is not acceptable. They have some great beers and whiskey at Total Wine. But I refuse to pay these prices or buy beer that's almost a year old. And that's it for me an Total Wine. This store used to have knowledgeable and helpful employees who ring up sales by helping customers. Now, it is staffed with rude and incompetent employees--especially the checkout clerks. Last month, I bought 30 bottles of wine and champagne. The checkout clerk was chatting the whole time with her co-workers and didn't focus on her work. Even re-counting 5 times at glacial speed, she STILL couldn't correctly ring up the sale. The supervisor had to cancel the sale and start from scratch. I never requested for delivery because I live 2 miles away and I'm capable to pickup 6 bottles of wine. I spent over $200.00 on the wine and the delivery was $45.00 on top. I couldn't cancel because I couldn't find the phone number of the delivery people and it was to late I think that total wine should have free delivery when you order above a certain price. Lucky does and other places do the same. I will not order again on line from Total Wine & More even though it's convenient. For some reason they "looked too young" even though the person BUYING the alcohol is 29 years old and supplied her ID, he SNATCHED the alcohol. I used to like coming here but tonight, I've just had it. My husband and I were in the middle of loading my cart up with what was going to be 18 bottles of a cheap $15 California sparkling wine when an employee came over to ask if we were finding everything alright. I said, "yeah we're good," and he said something to the effect of, "no you're not because of what's in your cart and we have way better stuff from France," in a really snooty tone. I was next door at Best Buy picking up an Echo Studio (fantastic speakers, by the way) and on the way back to my car, decided to pop into Total Wine & More to check them out (especially their Single Malt collection). WOW! They have one of the largest and most comprehensive Scotch inventories in the Bay Area. It includes examples from most of the distilleries in production, as well as quite a few proprietary bottlings. Prices are SRP. They have a very nice Bourbon and Rye collection, but their Irish Whiskey section is pretty small. Huge beer and wine inventory. Nice folks are eager to help. Plenty of parking. We have been going to TW&M many times since the first in 2017 and must say it still maintains it's wonderful selection of wines and spirits plus the best customer service/help in selections and information. Today, Frank helped us prepare for a wine tasting and was very knowledgeable in all the wines and regions we were interested in. It was a very enjoyable and educational experience. The cashier was also excellent making sure we received all the discounts we were entitled to. We would highly recommend TW and their staff and programs in Pleasant Hill. OMG why have I never heard of this little gem. Was looking for a rare wine that has tried at a restaurant. Online browsing stated this store had the wine was seeking. The wine was from Portugal. Get to the store and it's BEAUTIFUL. Well organized. Great variety, decent prices... Knowledge staff. We were helped by Jason. He was great. He looked over my list, shared locations in the store. I was on a drive up from SoCal when Hubbers called (probably while I was around the Coalinga area) asking me to stop by Total Wine to pick up a couple of drinks. I guess they were the only ones carrying the brands Hubbers was looking for. He said he'd already placed an online order and all I have to do is swing by to sign for it for pick up. "No problem." I'm pretty familiar with this particular Total Wine since I see it from the freeway each time I drove through so I knew it was going to be convenient. And how easy was that whole process! I parked, I came through, I provided my ID and I was out the door with my items in less than 3 minutes! WHAT! Talk about consistency. They are just like the one located in the South Bay. Total Wines to the rescue. I was looking for a ready to drink Jose Cuervo grapefruit tangerine margarita drink for a birthday present. The challenge was that it was a flavor that was hard to find as I had checked supermarkets and box stores. Checked Total Wines website and two stores had it, Mountain View and one bottle at Pleasant Hill. Since Pleasant Hill was the closest store to me, I called and the worker who answered said he would place the bottle on hold for me to pick up. The store is located in a strip mall next to Best Buy. Upon entering, I asked a worker about an item hold and he pointed me to a counter straight ahead, where a worker handed me the bottle. Of course, I love browsing the store to check out the large selections of wine, beer and spirts that Total Wines carries. I saw a unique flavor of a margarita drink and decided to get it for my friend as well. I had to get something for myself and got a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. My go to place for Spirits and everything alcohol like! If you are a fellow mixologist such as myself, this is the place to go to when you can't ingredients from your local grocery store. They got everything from Licor 43 to Passion Fruit Puree. They got realllly good stuff. I also love how close it is to my work. It's always nice being able to grab a bunch of bottles right after work since it's so close. The people that work here are highly knowledgeable and super friendly. I've asked for recommendations in certain whiskeys or dessert wines and always been given great recommendations on stuff. What on earth just happened here?! A young white couple in their late 20's early 30's in front of us at Total Wine we rung up and checked out, not carded. My turn... I'm quite a bit older and not carded either. Ok fine, cool. Now my daughter and son in law are next They're in their late 20's & early 30's... They both get carded... WAIT, WHAT??? Do they look younger then the last couple? NO they don't! I know I have been in quarantine a looong time now but, I have never seen any store card a person not buying anything. What on earth is going on here?! I'm puzzled... If TW is gonna ask for ID for a purchase please make your policy consistent. The fact that cashier picks & chooses who they card and who they don't is not ok! I would understand if it was all young ppl, that did not seem to be the case... They seem very selective of the crowd they are carding/checking ID's. That is a cause for conflict & frustration from the party checking out. Where's the explanation in that? Is it a racial thing? So now I've attended about 6 tasting classes and will continue to go to more and more classes. They keep coming up with unique pairings or different things to try. There was a classic pairing of wine and cheese class, and a fun wine and pizza pairing class! But most recently I attended the new class Intro to the History of Sake. The table layout was smaller and more intimate, versus the larger classroom style wine classes. The smaller class made for a much more in-depth or personal interaction. There was also catering from Yumeya Sushi (which is not too far down the street). From avocado rolls and California rolls, to gyoza and tempura veggies. It was all delicious and a great balance to the sake. We learned about how sake is made, the different grades and styles of sake, and reasons why you'd serve sake room temp, hot, or cold. (I won't give the answer away.. suggest you take the class to find out!) This was possibly my favorite class so far at Total Wine and I do hope they come up with more classes besides the typical wine tastings. read more

Excellent prices here; with coupons you can buy items 10% less than BevMo discounted items. The offer curbside pickup which is very convenient during the pandemic. Just park in the designated parking area and open your email order and click the "I'm here" button. Pretty good feature. Sometimes there's a great store right under your nose and it doesn't register. And so its been with Total Wine & More as I've visited the Best Buy next door, and have not noticed. If I needed a better wine or beer selection, you'd normally find me at nearby BevMo. It wasn't until Gayle pointed this place out to me as we passed by, that I knew. So I stopped by a couple weeks ago to look for Christmas beers. The selection is places I've looked seems to be down this year. In my humble opinion, the Deschutes Jubelale is one of the best. However, on this trip, I found a couple nice Belgian versions and picked up some future beer and wine ideas. Since I've just moved, that will probably happen at the Reno NV location, but it's good to know that such a huge selection of adult beverages no matter where I'm nearby. read more

I typically pick up Hennessy and Don Julio spirits, & I know Costco has em but it's time wasted at Costco vs here it's within 5 - 10 min & you're outta there. I accidentally ordered (2) 375ml bottles of Billecart-Salmon on DoorDash from this store by accident thinking they were the standard bottles. I called and was flustered thinking they most likely wouldn't let me exchange them. The woman I spoke with was so nice, said "We got you girl," and when I went in the next day it was zero hassle to return the 357mls and pay the difference for the full size bottles.
