Ralph and Kacoo's is a chain with locations in Texas and Louisiana. Cajun inspired seafood and steaks. The dining room is one of the nicest in Lufkin and the service is polished for a restaurant of this type. By and large the menu items that I have tried over the years have been decent but not great. The fish seems fresh but the recipes seem a little dated and heavy. The biggest pluses here are the delicious, warm, yeasty rolls and butter that arrive at your table shortly after you sit down and the excellent gumbo. The gumbo is a little spicy but isn't that what Louisiana food is all about? Not to put down Lufkin, but dining options there are limited and Ralph and Kacoos is a place I would recommend although, if it were located in a larger city, it wouldn't be on my list. read more

Wow, that's all I could think of at first! But, the Caesar salad, excel ant, just the right amount of dressing and fresh lettuce, croutons were fresh and not too much and not skimpy on the cheese! Then the rolls looked and smelled FRESH/Hot and just awesome, but on my current "diet" I've tried to cut down on my bread love, so skipped them. Finally the sirloin, cooked just right, almost cuts with the side of your fork, special buttery sauce on top, packed with flavor. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. read more

I came in for dinner at 9pm on a Friday and was seated immediately. Service was prompt and efficient. The stuffed mushrooms and side salad were tasty, if not exceptional. The grilled blackened catfish was tasty and hot. The portion was of a decent size. Overall not a bad place to eat. We were staying at a nearby hotel and I just had to come here. I was disappointed! In all fairness, my order was to go. Oysters, shrimp, crab cakes and bread pudding. Crab cakes were not what I expected. Soft, no crunchy shell. Unimpressive. Fried oysters were soft and mushy. No crisp at all. Shrimp were just ok. Bread pudding was awesome! Second only to Razzoo's. Maybe their food just doesn't travel well. Next time, I'll get the bread pudding to go, and call it a day. read more

Ate outside. Oysters were great and beer was cold. However, service was horrible on clearing used plates/glasses. Waitress acted like it wasn't her job to take used items away. We eventually had to stack all of our glasses and plates on a nearby table. Had a bad salad and instead of taking it back to the kitchen, the waitress simply stacked the bad salad on top of our other empty plates on nearby table. Sat down and waited, no one came our table, we told the hostess, still no urgency, finally had enough and left, they did not seem to upset to see us leave. Too bad. The food looked awesome. After reading the reviews I was hesitant to come eat here, but I am glad that I decided to give it a try anyway. Our server Luis was amazing, very attentive and helpful. Visit was good, food was good, but I purchased two bottles of their hot sauce, which were simply put on the table - NOT IN A SACK. Unfortunately, we left them there. Contacted the restaurant and someone called me back saying a manager would be in contact. No Manager and no refund. So, did an employee simply pocket the hot sauce? Tried the fried fish and shrimp and it was very good, not greasy at all and cooked just right. Also had boiled shrimp and crab cakes for appetizer and they were also good. The two items that really impressed me were the rolls and the bread pudding. If you eat here do try the bread pudding for dessert as it is so perfect you will be glad you ordered it. read more

On 5/12/18 my daughters, son in laws, and myself went to eat at this place. It was 4:23 in the afternoon and took forever to get a table. Nowhere on the menu was a list of beverages. The food was mediocre, and the prices were a bit high. They charged us an 18% gratuity on the check. That was really a kick in the teeth since the waitress forgot my coleslaw and my son in laws coleslaw. This is why I don't agree with an automatic gratuity charge. You may get crappy service, and still have to pay extra. We will never eat here again!!! I'm happy with the restaurants here in Houston. read more

Catfish Cocodrie is divine, well worth having! On the lunch menu it is 9 bucks! You get a large grilled & and a fried catfish filets, topped with an amazing crawfish etouffee sauce. I substituted the green beans for the yummy red beans and rice. Hubby had the chicken k jun blue, it was equally delicious. I'm no Cajun food expert. That being said, I didn't care for the food here. My husband found the Fresh Catch Bourbon Street extremely dry even though the fish was liberally drenched in clumpy, thick Hollandaise sauce. I had a dry shrimp cocktail in a cup so full of vegetables that I couldn't get any cocktail sauce on the shrimp. The gumbo was very thick (not soupy as I expected) and not at all tasty. The wedge salad I ordered was covered in too much dressing, however, I did like the taste of the blue cheese dressing. The stuffed bell pepper was ok. We went to this restaurant the evening before my daughter's graduation from SFA (5/18/2013). We had a group of about nine people and the place was packed, of course. Despite the big crowd, our service was great. The food was great, too. Everyone enjoyed both the appetizers and the entrees. The house wines were yummy, too. We had very high hopes for this place but were severely disappointed. Hubby got the fried oysters and I had shrimp 3 ways. We also had a cup of gumbo. All items were terrible. Gumbo was reheated mush. Shrimp was salty, cold, and just plain terrible. Onion rings were good but that's about it. Expensive and blah- keep driving if you're looking for a decent meal. read more

It's nice for Lufkin. That doesn't take much. Service normally pretty good. A little too pushy on th upsell. You might have to be pretty emphatic when saying no. Food is average but at least the place is clean and well maintained and has somewhat of a selection. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We were staying at a hotel not too far from this restaurant and it looked nice so we stopped. The interior is fabulous. Looks like a five star operation in Dallas, Texas. However that is where "it" ends. Our young female waitress must have had her mind in some far away land as she was not at all interested in serving customers. We finally received a menu and she took our drink order and then we waited again for her to return. She came back with a basket of bread however the inside of the buns were still raw and sticky. They had been removed form baking before done.I ordered the shrimp and oyster platter and my spouse ordered the Chicken Gambereti. The oysters were about one inch long and tough and chewy and without one tiny bit of oyster taste. There were six and I left three on my platter. The shrimp was about medium size with an almost tasteless breading. There were six and I left two of them on my patter. One of the worst seafood meals I have ever had. I also was served a cole slaw that was uneatable. Contained some type of spice or was soured, I never could decide. The red beans and rice were delicious. I also had a hush puppy but as you will note from the picture I left that also as it was soaked with grease all the way to the enter of the hush puppy. I could actually squeeze the grease onto my plate. My spouse was served a chicken concoction that neither of us knew what it contained. The chicken was covered with a sauce that was not very good. She left half of her meal as it just was not eatable. Not once did the waitress inquire about our meal. I had to push my empty glass of tea to the end of the table to get her to notice the tea glass was empty. This meals were expensive by any standards, $17.99 for my oysters and shrimp. And while I didn't mind the price I do mind the poor quality of food we received. The restaurant had very few customers when we arrived and we noticed that by the time we left there were just as few customers. Now we know why. The inside of this restaurant is beautiful with it's dark woods however the food that we received was very poor quality and even poor preparation. Now we need to find a place for dinner. read more

Just like other reviews-ours was mixed. New redfish dish was excellent; the rolls are to die for! The jumbo blackened shrimp were mediocre-definitely not jumbo-medium at best-had obviously been under the heat lamp, as was the rice served with it. Great mixed drinks. I have been to Ralph and Kacoos in Shreveport many times. This on falls way below the quality line of that restaurant. I had seafood platter, very bland could only tell catfish were freshly cooked, everything else from under heat lamp. The Cajun rice especially bad, not fully cooked, stale, and the rolls were all flour, dry and gritty. I think the corporation should look at who's running this store. Wait staff fine though they made you feel they had other places to be. The price of the food does not reflect the quality. read more

Stopped here while heading north. We were seated right away at 6:15 on a Friday, which was nice because I was starving. Our waitress was nice, but she couldn't answer all of our questions about the menu. The complementary bread is so good! We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and I put some of their pepper sauce on them. Delicious! I got the stacked salad with crab meat and their house vinaigrette. Our food arrived quickly. When the salad was set in front of me I immediately wished I made a different choice. The crab meat looked a little gross and vinaigrette was everywhere. I would give the salad a 4.5 out of 10. Everything was drowning in dressing and overloaded with tang. I figured the dressing would come on the side; my mistake for not asking. The crab meat was okay, but not great. Didn't taste fresh. We held my parents 57th wedding anniversary dinner here. The food was outstanding, everyone that ordered the fish loved it. The room was plenty big for our party of 38+, and the service was really good. I had never been there before, but hope to go back soon. read more

Really nice wait staff and great bar scene for Lufkin. It actually has a happy hour with great food prices and drink specials. The live music on the patio will be best in the fall when the weather is more comfortable. My only complaint is how early the place closes down on the weekend. Should keep the bar and patio open until midnight. read more
