I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! Since moving to Astoria last July, this place quickly became a favorite ice cream spot, especially since it's right next to the Trade Fair where we get our groceries. First, it's important to mention that this is a SEASONAL shop! They close down completely during the cold, winter months then reopen once the warm, spring weather arrives. "Water ice" is similar to sorbet, and it's what they're known for here. Dairy free! They also have "cream" flavors, but I haven't tried any of those yet. They have a wide variety of flavors for both the water ice and the cream versions - there's truly something for everyone here! So far, my favorites have been Watermelon water ice and Mango water ice. My husband dared to try the chocolate water ice flavor, and it was his one and only time ordering it. Lol! Also: this is an order-at-the-window type of place, so be prepared to get your iced treat and walk away. Thankfully, Athens Square park is nearby and is a great place to enjoy a frozen treat! Lastly, be sure to get a "punch card" if you plan on returning!! We have at least 3 of them because my husband keeps forgetting to keep it in his wallet. Ralph's is always the perfect place to pick yourself up a little sweet treat. They have tons of delicious options. You can get yourself a creme ice, water ice (dairy-free), a shake, or so much more. If you have trouble deciding which flavor you would like then the friendly workers will allow you to try out the flavors you are interested in. Tasteful Chocolate Italian ice. Very flavorful. The ice cream is smooth and rich. The lady's are always cheerful and polite.

If you're coming to this location with a flavor you have your heart set on getting, you need to be able to pivot quickly. This location almost always has a long line, and once you finally get to the front of it you're bound to find that at least a few flavors are unavailable. Because this spot is open seasonally I've found that employees are always working with a learning curve which holds up the service a bit more. Not sure what to say about ambiance here because it's just a little stand. All that said, if you're in the mood for Ralph's and specifically, Italian ice, this is one of your few options here in Astoria, which is too bad. Ralph's is a family owned business which started in Staten Island, NY in the late 1920s and which now has a new location here in Astoria. Personally, it gives me a lot of hope to see new businesses opening up but I'm especially glad to see one with a NY pedigree like Ralph's. Ralph's is mainly known for their really great Italian ice. I've been to some of their other locations and have tried many flavors offered in their huge menu but my go to is the watermelon ices. It's so refreshing, light and tasty. So today, for their Astoria Grand opening, I just had to order a pint of their watermelon ices. Ralph's menu also has various home made ice cream, sundaes, shakes, fruit smoothies and icebergs (smoothie with soft ice cream). This new location is right off 30th Avenue. Go right up to the outdoor window to order a treat to go. Right now they are only taking credit card or mobile pay. And don't forget to ask for their rewards card. The 10th item (ices or ice cream) is free with the reward card. read more

Great news for Astoria, another excellent dessert option for the 30th Ave area. If you need something quick, Ralph's is always a classic with tons of options. Ralph's is an icee/ice cream shop where you order from a window on the street. We had a small strawberry water ice (icee) and a peach iceburg (icee with soft serve on top). Both were delicious. The strawberry water ice had real strawberry seeds in it and wasn't too sweet or artificial tasting. They are only open after 2pm though. The prices are a but high though. read more

great great icees! I do think everyone that's complaining is being kind of unfair, there's long waits everywhere especially during the summer. They do run out of flavors constantly, but I think whoever is running this store really needs to be better about that. More than half the board is covered in "sold out" dots Staff is great! The ice cream here is awesome and they have a big selection. I got the nutty buddy sundae with hot fudge added - all the sundaes seem to just be vanilla soft serve with various toppings. The prices are super reasonable - $6.25 for a sundae. The bad part is that the service here sucks. The place was run by 3 teenagers who didn't really understand customer service. The girls were talking with each other behind the counter while we tried to ask questions about the menu and order. Then all 3 teens stood in the back to mess around and make our order, leaving the next people in line waiting for a while. I also saw one of the staff grab a clean cup, pour in some toppings and scoop them into his mouth then put the cup back onto the stack of clean cups. Gross for whoever got that cup for their ice cream. Also, most of the staff were wearing their masks on their chin. Great ice cream but bad service and hygiene in this place - hope some improvements are made because the ice cream is really good. read more

What a refreshing experience -I love water ices I just returned from the new creamery, Ralph's Italian Ices and Ice Cream, 3002 30th Street. Yes, they are the real deal. When I came to the States, I always though sorbet was an American word for water ice. In the UK, I grew up on water ices after a long day playing football (soccer for the Yanks) in Hampstead or the fields around Harrow. we would buy a water ice on our way home from school. My favorites at the time were mango, lemon and strawberry. Today, I stopped by their Astoria location for the first time. I paid $10 for two medium sized cups of strawberry and lemon water ice. I spent over 20 minutes on a long line only to be told that AFTER I placed my order and paid that the thing I wanted wasn't available. The workers are ridiculously slow, have bad attitudes, and quite frankly I'm happy they ran out of what I wanted so I could be refunded and not support this business. Ralph's is my new summer go-to! They have a lot of cold treat options, but their specialty seems to be water ices and cream ices. So far, I've tried the cherry cola and berry burst water ices and the Nutella cream ice. All have been great-- they're obviously sweet because they're dessert, but they're not *too* sweet. I think the berry burst, which has real bits of blueberries, is my fave so far. And the refreshing cream ices are perfect for someone like me, who likes the flavor of ice cream but can find something like soft serve to be too heavy. There are so many more flavors to try, and I'm seriously looking forward to making my way through all of them. read more

Third time I've been here since they opened for the season in March 2023. They haven't had soft serve ice cream (vanilla) all season, which is unfortunate since one of their signature products is a Twister (made with ice and soft serve). while enjoying a hot summer night in astoria, a visit to ralphs for some italian ices sounds good. yes along with a good variety of flavor ices, you can get soft and hard ice cream, frozen yogurt. smoothies, etc, but i like to stick with what made ralphs popular and its the italian ices and a large cup of cherry/lemon ice is just right on a saturday july night. folks please remember you are dealing with high school kids so dont expect much in conversation but its ok , just get my order right and i am cool with it. easy to view menu board and so many choices but try to keep it simple and get a few pints that you can keep in your freezer to enjoy later. nothing better than italian ices on a summer nights and those memories of my youth in the bronx start to return in my mind. read more

if you want to find the world's worst ice cream scooper come to this Ralph's. She had crusty orange hair and DID NOT wear a hair net. Her nose was so droopy that it melted faster than my icee. Make sure to avoid this employee at all costs. I asked for a strawberry icee and she said I was coming for her brand and refused to serve me the flavor of my choice. She had the audacity to scoop the icee out with her hand (no gloves). I asked her for my change and she barked at me and said it was necessary tip. Never had a problem until I ordered on seamless and received only one part of my order aka one ice. This prompted me to check the receipt and in my email I noticed a refund for the other ice. This has happened before and if any problems. I called and asked why no phone call that you were out of that ice as this has happened before. The person said well we lost our phone and found it a few minutes ago and if you want something else place a new order. Unacceptable. I really want to like this place, but the teenagers running the joint are a disaster. I waited until my third visit to finally write it off. While the cream ice is delicious, the wait is always absurdly long for a handful of people. Tonight was the icing on the cake, when my husband ordered a soft serve waffle cone and was told after we paid the charge that the waffle cones were broken. The child behind the register argued with us about the charge (claiming it wasn't the case, when it was) and then served my husband a tiny soft serve that melted completely before we got to the corner in a completely stale cake cone. For 6 dollars. Get out of here, Ralph's. There are better options with good service. Go elsewhere, Astoria. read more
