Growing up in Oakland, I am beyond lucky to have this incredible bagel place right in my backyard! My go to is an Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel with salt, pepper, ketchup, and hot sauce! We asked for the eggs over-medium (makes it a little runnier and SO delicious!) and they cooked it perfectly. Got off this exit while driving through New Jersey, my reason for this exit was in truth, Starbucks is right there. While at the stoplight I saw Hot Bagels in front of me and swung the car out of my left turn lane and hit it up. In a tiny strip plaza of about 4 shops. There is extremely limited parking and most of it 15 min which suffices for getting bagels to go. I walked in to a full shop with standing room for only about 10-15 max. There was a digital menu of sandwiches and offerings and a wall of fresh bagels. "Next" is all I heard and I had to make my choice quickly. Problem was...not one bagel basket was labeled with what it was so they all looked exactly the same except for the obvious wheat multigrain. So, feeling like I was rushed by the long line behind me of hungry locals I just asked what's that and settled for it. I asked about twice more and got frustrated. Luckily I got a whole wheat everything bagel and a garlic bagel, one with veg cc and the other with chive cc. I also opted for two egg and cheese bagels since it only cost $.20 more for it. My four bagels came to $13 and I ran out with my brown bag of bagels before it got to packed to move. Each bagel was super fresh of course, which I always expect from most of not all bagel joints in NJ. The chive cream cheese was my favorite, it was more of green onion (scallion) rather than the tiny chive. Neither bagel was toasted, only warm; guess I had to specify that. My egg and cheese bagels were good BUT I could obviously taste that they made them with bacon since I could taste it, I'm vegetarian and even though the last time I had bacon was like 15 years ago, no one forgets that taste. I didn't enjoy my bagel because of this and was disappointed. They did make them fresh on the grill (eggs) and that was of course better than micro'd ones you get at Dunkin'. Overall a Greta pit stop. The only thing they REALLY need to do is simply label the bagel baskets. A simple hanging sign with dry erase labels would help out soooo much. read more

It was ok. Our order seemed to get messed up maybe because it was so busy? A breakfast burrito was delivered with two pieces of wheat bread. A bagel with butter cane with cream cheese. Screw up orders on regular basis, no wonder why I normally go to Oakland Bagels instead. Ordered a plain bagel with egg, American cheese, Taylor ham and a hash brown on the side. Opened in the car and got plain bagel with Taylor ham and a hash brown on it! Brought it back in and they took a long time to recook. Like a fool, I did not think to open and check the order again and drove home. Opened and this time received plain bagel, American cheese, Taylor ham and hash brown on the side, they forgot the egg! This place has totally flipped a 180. I have been there several times over the past few months and have always left very satisfied. It is completely different from how it was a couple years ago. The new staff is very friendly and they have even updated the inside of the place. Keep it up! read more

I don't like to give out 1-star reviews because I genuinely dislike the idea of negatively affecting someone's business, so I tend to try out a location at least 2-3 times to make sure it wasn't an off or inconsistent day, but I also cannot give a dishonest review based on what I experience multiple times at an establishment. I have been here at LEAST 10-11 times now, and 9 of those times, I saw bagels prepared WITHOUT gloves and with hands that dealt with change and dollars. The other few times, I saw the bagels being prepared with gloves that were NOT taken off when the customer was checked out, so those gloves ended up dealing with the cash and were not changed after. The themselves are so-so (sometimes hard and stale, depending on the day), and I have most certainly had better, even at commercial bakeries such as Dunkin Donuts. They load the bagels with obscene amounts of cream cheese, which they never lessen even if asked. The employees themselves can be quite rude and make fun of you in their language to one another. But the hygiene here is what gets me-- I don't mind stopping for bagels and coffee if it helps out a local or family-owned business rather than a franchise, but this is simply disgusting, and the management should be more stringent with their employees regarding health and sanitation stipulations. I will definitely skip this place and give Oakland Bagel & Pastry a try next time I'm craving a bagel. read more

Fairly decent bagels in Oakland. I've been to this location on a few occasions and have never been disappointed. Recently ordered a egg and swiss on a salt bagel, and it definitely hit the spot. Of course these bagels aren't equivalent to a NYC bagel, but that shouldn't be surprising being this is Oakland, New Jersey and not NYC. Beyond bagels, this place has everything you would expect from a good bagel shop. Hard rolls, deli selections, fruit juices. So if you happen to be in the Oakland area and need a place to grab a quick breakfast, I'd definitely recommend giving Hot Bagels a shot. read more

This was a terrible experience! Service is EXTREMELY slow. They got the order wrong and the workers are somewhat rude. The ingredients were tasty and in the right ratio, and the bagel itself had a beautiful consistency, good amount of toppings, and an okay flavor. Went here twice, and both times the bagels were hard. I don't think they boil and bake their bagels fresh everyday. Maybe they don't even boil their bagels. We have been going to this bagel shop for 10+ years and the last three times we have gone in, the service has been horrible. We went in as a group of 3 and the worker took one person's order and left, made the order and then came back - rather than taking all orders together. So given that, you would assume the order was correct - it was not! And it took about 15 minutes for 2 bagel sandwiches and 1 bagel and cream cheese. It was very disappointing considering it was always good before the remodel. read more

This Hot Bagels has really gone downhill. My family has been getting bagels here since I was born and I am now 20 years old. The last time I had a good bagel here was the summer of 2012. Ever since then, the everything bagels have NO toppings, they are all extremely bare- and the actual dough itself is all pale and soft. The bagels I got from hot bagels when I was a child were the BEST around. They were baked nice, golden, and crisp- and the everything bagels had ALL the toppings on it (covering the entire bagel.) Again, the last time I had a good bagel from here was in the summer of 2012. I'm not sure if they've come into new owners or something? If so, they really need to get themselves together. read more

This place is just okay. If I wasn't in a rush I would have just gone to Goldbergs in Wyckoff. This place charged me $9.10 for a bagel and an orange juice. I'm sorry but that is just insane!! And the egg on my bagel was cooked too long so the bagel was very dry. A group of people came in (I'm assuming they were regulars) and went right in front of me and started placing an order and the place let them do it. I just thought that was extremely rude. My experience here is limited to a cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese but it's very, very good. Very yummy CR bagel with lots of raisins, doughy and nice chewy bite. The bagel is basically a vehicle to eat cream cheese loaded with raisins and walnuts. read more

Very poor service. Awful employee mistreatment, lot of yelling from the bosses to their employees causing miscommunication and my order was messed up due to the bosses stepping in on orders that a young girl was helping me with already. The bagels were stale and hard and rushed. I live local thought I'd try it out and it was a mistake. I payed way too much for the food I received.
