Another great ramen spot we found near us. We had the Me So Hot ramen and Katsu Curry Rice- both recommended! The ramen had such a good spicy kick to it (if u like spicy). Comes with green onions, cabbage, onions, seaweed, slices of pork, soft boiled egg, no bean sprouts (FYI if u like beans sprouts, I don't so it was perfect for me lol). Ramen Mik is some of the best ramen down south that I've ever had! My biggest regret is having not tried them sooner. Let my review assure you that if you've been on the fence about giving this spot a try then to stop reading this and head down there ASAP. Okay, we'll maybe finish reading this BUT then head down there ASAP! Ramen Mik is an unassuming restaurant as it's off to the corner in a busy strip mall. Thankfully there was parking near the restaurant but it's a definitely a popular and busy center. When I arrived there was only one other table with customers on a weekday night around 5pm. I was surprised it wasn't busier but still wanted to give them a try. I did notice while sitting here that they get a lot of take out business which was good to see. Also as it got later more parties came to dine. The restaurant itself is pretty big and spacious for a ramen restaurant. It's super bright inside, clean, and welcoming. I loved the fun and vibrant murals on the wall. The service here was fanatic A+. My waitress was super friendly and on top of it. She brought me water right away and as soon as I placed my order I swear the appetizer was put in five minutes and another five minutes after my ramen followed. This is definitely a great spot to dine if your coming with limited time or during your lunch break as they can get you in and out, but at the same time I never felt rushed. The waitress and cooks just seemed to be super on top of it here. I am pleased to say that Ramen Mik has some of the best gyoza I've ever had! When it comes to gyoza I feel like most places taste relatively similar and it's hard to surprise me but the gyoza here is so much better then anywhere else. You have to get this appetizer, trust me. I can't explain it but I'll try - the gyoza were so wonderfully crispy yet super delicate and soft in the middle. The dipping sauce that accompanied it was also delicious, some type of light soy sauce and chili oil mix. Heavenly and I've been craving this ever since. Next came the ramen, I ordered the Me So Hot. The ramen was also a 5/5. I loved that the broth was piping hot (temperature wise) so handle with care! But there is nothing better about a chilly night and a super hot bowl of ramen. The flavor of the broth was rich and delicious. Super flavorful and just overall an impressive bowl of ramen. The egg was cooked to perfection and the meat was good. When my son was less than a year old, I watched him stand up on his own and push a big, foam log at a Gymboree class when other, older kids were unable to do so. That overwhelming sense of pride I had while watching his accomplishment has been mirrored over and over during the course of my now nine years in being his father. And when he eagerly agreed in coming with me to try Ramen for his first time at this new spot in San Marcos, I felt that same, familiar feeling well up and I couldn't help but smile as I watched his eyes go wide when they set that huge bowl of Mik's spicy Me So Hot in front of him. I just wish I could have done better by him and brought him to a better shop for his first outing. Ramen Mik opened a few months ago, the shop on my radar as it's in a center I pass by often. When it finally unlocked the front doors, I was able to convince the family to give it a try. A few weeks prior I had sampled Harumama in Carlsbad and was an immediate fan, trying to find similar fare closer to home. Sadly, this shop doesn't even come close. I had their Show You, the pork option off their Signature Ramen selection. The Chashu was bland, mainly flavored by the broth, with no charred crispiness and little saltiness to it. The noodles were thick and plentiful, at least, giving a nice fullness to the dish. And the Dashi Egg was well made, with the yolk being soft and gelatinous, and having a nice overall color and taste. But, the broth itself was exceedingly disappointing as it lacked any depth of flavor or richness; it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it had simply come from a foil packet tossed into some boiling water. Which was a shame considering how good it looked when it hit the table. The same went for my wife's Cock-a-Noodle-Doo. She chose the chicken option so our daughter could enjoy some of the noodles. Loaded with Bok Choy and beautiful Chili Pepper Strings, it shared that lack of depth and flavor to the broth. When I mentioned it tasting like a dry pack of Top Ramen, she very much agreed. Our daughter did eat most of her noodles, however. Our son was unable to eat much of the Me So Hot, the spice a bit too much for him. I took over his bowl and gave him half of my own; he was thankful for something he could swallow and I was thankful for something with at least some heat to cover up the lack of taste. My stepson shrugged at the leftovers later that night. We also had an order of Mik's Fries on the table, a safe option for the kids. Sadly, they weren't fried well as they arrived cool and limp with no crispiness to the chew. The dipping sauce did help to cover up the flaws a bit, though. And last we had the Takoyaki appetizer. This was the true saving grace of our meal and the best thing we had all night. The meat had been cut into decent sized chunks, allowing it to be easily eaten without much effort, but still keeping the nice chewy texture you'd expect from octopus. The batter was delicious, not too overpowering in seasoning, and the blend of mayo and the sweet takayuki sauce with benito flakes on top was fantastic. I enjoyed two of them while my son greedily devoured the rest. Ultimately, a very underwhelming dinner where the main fare was bland and disappointing with only one of the appetizers worthy of any praise. Had to try this Japanese ramen place that I saw on Instagram. Parking was easy. Restaurant was clean including restaurant. Service was meh... Ramen was simple yet authentic, miso based broth with full of umami flavor! Dashi egg was a huge plus for me!! Felt like I was somewhere in Japan. But chicken karaage.. what had happened? May be they were trainng a new chef or were in rush but it was undercooked! I could taste the wet corn flour/coating inside. It was just awful. I told the waitress about it but she did absolutely nothing about it. No apolgy, no refund, just took my dish away and give me the bill. Yes, they still charged me for chicken karaage, fine. Wish they handled it more professionally. Well, thankfully I didn't get sick from chicken yet.. We were all craving Ramen, so we went to the closest spot and scored. We ordered two appetizers; baby bok choi and Mik's fry. The bok choi was very tasty, it's lightly seasoned. Mik's fry came with ketchup and a white sauce, that white sauce was delicious. We ordered two meals; katsu chicken and the cock-a-doodle noodle. My wife loved her katsu chicken. She let me have half a slice LOL, I can confirm that it is delicious. I got the cock-a-doodle noodle and it was really good, it pretty much comes with a small chicken's breast worth of chicken. The broth was very good, as were the noodles. The place is very clean as they recently opened a few months ago (I think back in March), there was plenty of parking, and the staff are very nice. This is one of those places where you can see the kitchen from your seat. When we were sat we were greeted with a cravat of water. The waitress answered a few of our questions with a smile. I ordered the Me So Delight ramen, while others at my table ordered their two other specialties: the Show You and the Me So Hot ramen. Me So Delight: The broth was delicious! It was very light compared to the tonkotsu broths that I usually get while still being flavorful. It wasn't too salty either. I tried some of the Me So Hot broth and it's very similar, just a spicy version of the Me So Delight. The egg was cooked nicely so that the yolk was jammy. The green onions were topped liberally, and the garlic paste on the side of the bowl incorporated nicely into the soup. The chashu we as fatty, rich, and melts in your mouth. The only part that disappointed me were the noodles. I'm not sure if Hokkaido style ramen has a specific noodle they use, but it was slightly gummy and doughy. It seemed undercooked, but everyone at our table had the same comment so it's possible that's just the style of ramen they use. Other than that, the ramen is pretty solid. Ordered the Pork Gyozas, Chicken karaage, and shoyu ramen. Immediately upon entering was greeted and sat right away. Server brought us water and gave us a bottle of it to refill our glasses as needed. Food came out pretty quickly, and was delicious! Pork Gyozas were nice and crispy on the bottom and nicely cooked on top. Dipping sauce was also good! Chicken karaage came with a little salad, lemon and spicy mayonnaise I believe. It tasted pretty good and they give you just enough mayo for the portion size. Couldn't hurt to add a bit more though depending on your dipping habits. It was juicy and cooked beautifully! On to the ramen, the shoyu ramen was typically not what i order at ramen shops. I like tonkotsu but nevertheless it was still pretty tasty. The dashi egg was cooked beautifully, the center was not too runny and not too cooked. It was just right. A little bland for my taste but overall great cook. The chasu pork that accompanied the ramen was delicious! A little disappointed to see only one piece of pork on my ramen, you typically see more than one thin slice of pork in most ramen shops but still delicious. The noodles were very good and chewy. I wish there was an extra noodles option on the menu but they may accommodate if you ask. I thought the toppings were a bit light on the veggies and with only one piece of meat. The soft boiled egg was perfect. The broth was flavorful. The squid karaage was too oily and chewy for me, I've had better at other places. The service was attentive and friendly. I have been waiting for the Ramen Mik location in Escondido to open up for what seems like years, not sure if they are still planning on opening or not! Meeting up with a friend, we decided on hitting up this location in San Marcos (I didn't even know they had one here). I ordered the "show you" ramen with an extra egg, and pork. We also ordered Takoyaki appetizer as well as the Geso Karaage (squid). the Geso Karaage was alright.. not terrible but nothing I would order again... if it happened upon my table, I would eat one though =). The Takoyaki appetizer was actually very very good! It was seasoned well, good sized, chewy but not too chewy and topped with the perfect amount of sauce and bonito flakes. Now to the Ramen, since this restaurant is called Ramen Mik, and not Takoyaki Mik. My ramen was sort of bland, I did order a side of bom sauce, which had really good heat to it. The pork chashu in my ramen was almost tasteless, the ramen noodles while plentiful felt undercooked to me. The Dashi egg was cooked well, the broth sadly again felt a bit flavorless.
