    VEGETABLE TEMPURA

The restaurant's interior brick clad walls and the warm soft ambient lighting provide a comfy rustic feel. The seating layout leaves a wide walkway in the center of the dinning room, allowing the dinning experience feel intimate even when people are seated nearby. The service was excellent. It was our first time at the Udon Mugizo, so the server offered to walk us through the menu. He explained the differences between dishes and their sizes. He even offered to show us images on his hand held ordering device since we were debating over what dishes to get. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday celebrant received a free dessert. Kind, patient and helpful. Excellent customer service. The Order: Crispy Onigiri Bites -Chopped up pieces of well done pork Chashu with some delicious sauce and fresh green onion, all on top of crispy rice. A great starter. Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe (no spice) -The broth was well balanced. Full of flavor and not too salty. The shrimp tempura wonderful, even though it was slightly submerged so it was as crispy as I hoped. The deluxe comes with a cube of braised pork belly, and it was so tender and sweet. I could eat an entire plate of it! The noodles were perfect, soft and flavorful. The egg was sweet, but I wish I would have eaten it sooner, as I prefer the egg to be a creamier. I definitely recommend the Deluxe. Vegetable Tempura & Broccoli Tempura -A beautiful and tasty assortment of pieces. The corn was a stand out since it was off the Cobb, being held together by the tempura batter. It was delicious, with a batter that was not overly thick. Both were nice side dishes during our dinner. Kurogoma Mochi Ice Cream -The mochi may tend to stick to the paper lining, and picking them up with your fingers can be slightly sticky. The nutty flavor from the black sesame ice cream is fantastic. The pairing with the sweet chewy mochi exterior is a wonderful pairing. Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream -Delicious and creamy. Not overly sweet. A nice subtle creamy flavor. A great way to end the meal. The food and the service truly make this place stand out. Everything had a well balanced flavor, with the components to each dish (appetizer/side dish, soup, dessert) having a wonderful flavor journey through each bite, as the various ingredients take turns on center stage as you work your way through each dish. I will be coming back to try more of the menu, and I recommend you do too.

Charming little udon shop with both indoor and outdoor seating. Located on a quaint strip with other popular shops and restaurants, so parking can be tough to find at peak hours. I had a nabeyaki udon and thought it was just okay. It felt a bit heavy for me. My boyfriend really liked the mentai cream udon, which is one of their signature dishes. Service here is good.

I visited Udon Mugizo again and always enjoy coming back here. The outdoor seating was really nice at first, but some stuff from the trees kept falling into my water and even my udon, so I ended up moving inside. I always get the tonkotsu deluxe with spice and it never disappoints. The noodles are great and the broth is rich and flavorful. It can get a bit salty, so I don't recommend adding the extra spice powder they provide. Will be back!!

The service was attentive and their in house made udon was perfectly textured chewy. I actually prefer the cold udon since it's more flavorful and the udon keeps its bouncy texture compared to the hot udons. The tempura was honestly really mid. The tempura batter was extremely thick, heavy, and a little oily. Would recommend the cold Niki Udon

I've been to several Udon Mugizo locations, and every single one is a unique, delicious experience! The MV store is decorated beautifully. The interior features wooden furniture, warm lighting, and plenty of booths. Its atmosphere is cozy and inviting! I visited with a party of five on a Thursday evening, and we were seated after about a ten minute wait. It was pretty busy in the store, so there was a pleasant chatter that added to the warm ambiance. The employees were super efficient and offered great recommendations. The food at Udon Mugizo never disappoints! The quality across all their restaurants is consistently good. Every bowl of udon I've had has been solid and full of flavor. This time, I tried the Mentai Cream Sauce Udon. This was probably my favorite udon I've tried here. It was the perfect combination of umami and creamy. The sauce was rich and decadent, and the noodles had a great bounce to them. I probably finished my bowl in a couple minutes because of how good it was! My friends were also really impressed with their selections. You can't go wrong with Udon Mugizo, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Came here on a Tuesday at 12:30pm; there were a few people standing ahead of me waiting. We were offered a table outside. In the interest of time, we accepted, even though it was a bit cold outside. Unfortunately, the standing patio heater wasn't working that was next to our table. Not a huge deal, but would've been nice while we waited for our udon. I ordered the tonkotsu udon and the broth was SO rich & flavorful. The udon noodles were chewy and fresh. Great portion size, I would definitely return. It's nice that there are multiple locations in the Bay Area.

Had a great meal here last night! Everything was well priced and portions were reasonable. I got the kids mini udon which came with plenty of food for the kids and was only $10. For myself, I got the tonkotsu deluxe in regular size and I was totally full by the end of the meal. The chicken karaage is also a note ale mention- crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside My husband also enjoyed his meal It was surprisingly busy at 545 on a Friday so make sure to sign up for the Yelp waitlist before heading over ! We don't have to wait long though Overall a great family friendly spot with good food. Well defs be back!

This area was my favorite to visit, the food options expanded extensively since a few years ago. I've had this spot bookmarked and stopped by for solo lunch. I got the tonkotsu udon and it was so so good. The broth was so rich, and noodles were perfect. I did wish I was dinner with others so I could have tried another udon plus appetizers!

Kim and Tracy were very sweet. Kim made our experience very delightful. They were very kind and attentive to our needs. Plus we had free live music. Shoutout to the man playing the saxophone outside while we were dining.

Had the Nabeyaki Udon and my friend had the Tonkotsu Udon. Nabeyaki Udon came with a clear broth, poached egg instead of boiled egg, fish cake, mushrooms, chicken pieces and two pieces of shrimp tempura. Nabeyaki broth is sweeter, thin, more clear compared to the creamy, milky, less sweet Tonkotsu broth. Mixing in the poached egg reminds me of egg drop soup but with a more complex flavor. The poached egg definitely added umami to the broth. Good sized tempura shrimp covered with crispy airy batter vs panko or thick breading. The Tonkotsu Udon had the creamy rich broth. Just the broth alone was already yummy. This is my go to item at Mugizo. Thick noodles, a whole boiled egg, and slices of chashu pork. They also give a side of the seasoning powder which I think is ground bonito. For appetizer, we had the corn fritter which is looks like a cup of sweet corn kernels mixed with light tempura batter then fried. I wish this is served in a thin sheets vs in big clumps. They give 4 fritters per order. Tempura sauce provided as dipping sauce. Food was quick to come out. Staff were nice. Cozy dining room.

    SALMON SPINACH CREAM SAUCE UDON

I love this place so much I ate here three times in one week... HELP I am addicted The first time, I came on a friday night around 5pm and was seated right away. Throughout the night, the restaurant began to fill up quickly. Our server was super helpful and had great recommendations. The restaurant dimly lit and has a great vibe. I tried to Tonkatsu Udon, Katsu Curry Udon, and the Salmon Spinach Udon. All splendid choices and had great flavor. I will say the udon noodles are on the softer side as I prefer a more al dente noodle. The Katsu Curry is my favorite and definitely my go to. The curry has an intense flavor and all the veggies are so tender. There is definitely something for everyone whether you like soup, curry, cream sauce or rice. There are so many locations around the Bay Area, you definitely need to give it a try!

The food here is so good! I had the salmon cream udon last time but it was so memorable I got it again. I didn't know it was smoked salmon at first but it goes together really well. The cream makes it feel so luxurious. I also had some hot hojicha, which was great in the cold weather. The location is pretty busy, but we came on a Thursday night so the wait wasn't long. They have a waitlist on yelp which helps. There's outside seating with those tall flame things, though still too cold in December for us, so we were at a counter seating, where the table was surprisingly wide, so people sitting opposite were a bit far, but I won't complain about more space for the food! Price is reasonable, but the large didn't feel that much larger than regular size. I was also a bit confused about the menu because there's a cold udon section and warm udon section... But then many other udon sections like niku and curry. Isn't every udon either warm or cold lol?

No heaviness, no grease. Just very solid comfort food done right. The double meat katsu does not come with curry sauce, even though the name and the photo make it seem like it does. What actually comes out is a lot of cabbage, a small amount of rice, and no curry. You can order curry sauce on the side, but it's a very small portion for the price--more like a dipping sauce than something you can really pour over your katsu and rice. Because of that, we usually end up making our own curry and rice at home to pair with their katsu. I personally skip the premium tonkatsu since it's a bit too fatty for me, but the regular pork and the chicken are both excellent and dependable. Bottom line: the katsu is genuinely delicious--just don't rely on the photos when ordering if curry is what you're craving.
