Service and ambiance were nice without complaints there. I got the special ramen with the duck and dumplings. The presentation of the bowl was well put together. The gyoza were fried nicely too. The ramen itself tasted was good but wasn't memorable, considering how more expensive this was compared to the other ramen.
I had the most stressful first day of school, and I didn't plan on going here at all. I had parked 12 mins away from this spot, and it wasn't my first option. Even though I was having such a drag of a day and I had to cross mountains for my meal, I ended up having a great time. Maya was my server; she was super pretty, charismatic, and very patient with me, which made me feel a lot better about my day. I don't usually eat alone because I'm still very young, and I'm trying to get used to doing stuff solo, but with Maya as my server, I felt very at home an I didn't find myself feeling lonely at all! The feel of this Ramen San was so cool; the interior is so nice, and they even had Shrek playing!! Amazing soundtrack as well... 10/10 Highly recommend I ordered the 10-hour tonkotsu and the shrimp xoxo pork dumplings!! Two very delicious & safe options
This is a 5.0. Mantou are a MUST. Service was great, Japanese whiskey is refreshing and might, and the outside seating right on Green street is sized for a group of 4-6. This was a great experience, thank you RSWB team!

Ramen-San was such a lovely stop during my time in Chicago--definitely a vibe if you're looking for something fun, flavorful, and a little turn-up with your meal. Now I have to be honest... the one thing that really threw me off was the fruit flies. There were quite a few, and it honestly felt a little gross. I'm not sure if it was our seating area or something with the dishes at first, but it did take away from the experience a bit. BUT--let's get into the food because they did their thing: * Chili cucumber - 5/5 Sweet, spicy, refreshing... a perfect starter. I could've ordered another round. * Kimchi fried chicken ramen (with egg + extra buttered corn) - 5/5 BABY. This was that bowl. Rich, flavorful, comforting... I could eat this all the time. * Brussels sprouts - 4/5 Well-seasoned and solid. Nothing crazy, but they get the job done. * Crab rangoons - 4/5 Tasty, crispy, and filling--no complaints here. Drinks? They didn't come to play: * Penicillin #2 - 5/5 A smooth whisky moment. It sneaks up on you--giving Jack Honey + ginger vibes but more elevated and grown. * Hot sake - yum Simple, warm, and hits every time. * Yuzu sake bombs (we did 3... party style ) Surprisingly delicious and just fun. Highly recommend if you're with your people. Service: Our server was sweet, attentive, and checked in just enough without being overbearing--always appreciated. Overall: Despite the fruit fly situation (which I really hope was a one-off), the food and drinks carried. I'd still come back, maybe just be a little mindful of where I'm seated next time.
Stopped by for a late lunch and was able to enjoy their express lunch option. A great amount of food for the price! Service was quick and easy and overall a great location if you need a substantial lunch. Plus, they're able to substitute for GF noodles and molten egg! The edamame hummus with the nori was the surprise highlight for me!
Met my godson for dinner while my daughters were studying, working or on a flight meeting me for Family Weekend at U Chicago. Love to try the places that my children, nieces, nephews and godchildren recommend. They are always so much unique. I love being able to choose from the options they recommend. Easy to walk to Fulton Market on a chilly fall day. I love walking in Chicago (unless it is winter with plummeting temperatures.) Easy to get a table with an early dinner reservation. After work and before heading to the airport. We started with the fried chicken mantou buns. The steamed buns were so soft and fluffy. A delicious contrast to the fried chicken with shredded cabbage and Japanese mustard. Definitely try this as an appetizer. Next, it was time for ramen with loads of classic Tokyo wavy noodles from sun noodles. My godson had the 10 hour tonkotsu which he loved. I ordered the chicken shio with a chicken broth, chicken chashu, buttered corn, scallions and a molten egg. Nice to have options for both chicken and vegetarian broth. So good on a chilly night. Sat at a high top. Service was great. Never felt rushed on a Thursday night. Nice to be able to enjoy an evening catching up.
Food was delicious here! You can't go wrong with ramen. The service was quick and lovely. Nice dark ambient lighting for a cool vibe.
There's no one that will ever be able to convince me that Ramen San isn't good. They're quite tasty and always consistent. The ambiance is always amazing and the music is always a bop! One difference about this visit was that I came to learn they have a lunch menu option - even on the weekends! I'd never done lunch so I thought why not now? I ordered the Chicken Shio ramen, the Big Eye Tuna rice bowl and it came with a salad. For $17, this is a massive lunch. I ate a late dinner because I was just that filled. You receive nice lunch size portions of food to leave you satisfied and happy. I can't remember the name of my beverage but it was quite tasty. This is all to say, visit any ramen San location. You won't be disappointed.
Stopped here for a work lunch and it's was terrific! They had the perfect seating for our large group and the server was so efficient. The ambiance is modern and the place was spotless. The large bar centers the space and the poop emoji marking the loos was hilarious. We were all about the ramens on a cold day and the food came out quickly and was served warm-- not hot but at a good temp. I got the fried chicken and kimchee ramen. Timing is everything when you have fried chicken swimming in savory broth and it ate crispy (dark meat) and the kimchee was at the right level of fermentation. The noodles were spot on al dente too. A keeper if you're jonesing for ramen!
I always love it here when I visit, but recently I visited and they had new menu items and listen -- IM MORE IN LOVE! I tried their bang bang shrimp, omgggg still thinking about it!! & they had a new spritzer drink on the menu that I loveddddd!
I have been to other Ramen-San locations. On my first visit here, our party of 3 each opted for the express lunch. We all had the tonkotsu ramen with the karage and tuna as the rice plates. We all enjoyed the edamame hummus and the rice plates. The ramen noodles were a bit over cooked but the toppings were delicious. The pork was tender and my daughter loved the bamboo. All in all the food was great. We all left pretty full and actually had to take our rice plates to go. I will be back again to give them another shot.
I can't speak to the food, but as far as whisk(e)y bars go, this place was absolutely fantastic! I was looking for a calm whisky bar where I could sip that golden "uisge beatha" in relative peace. Yelp directed me here, and I decided to give it a go. I always thought of Ramen-San as a place that specializes in ramen and other Japanese goodies, but at this specific location, one of those goodies turns out to be whiskey! They have some tremendous things going for them: First, their selection of Japanese whiskies is very impressive! They have a wide variety of different brands and variants, with something for every palate and price range. I especially liked that they offer a 1-ounce and a 2-ounce option for each. Then there's the bar staff. The bartender I had the night of my visit was an absolute delight. He was clearly someone who not only had a tremendous amount of knowledge but also a person who genuinely loved his job. This is becoming more and more rare, and it made for a great experience. In terms of the vibe, while it may not be the most comfortable spot to spend several hours due to hard stools, it makes up for it by not being otherwise obnoxious. With all of this, while I can't speak for the ramen at this specific spot (I've had it at others), the whiskey portion of the experience was one I would love to repeat... maybe even slowly work my way down their list.

First time trying Ramen and it was a pretty good experience. Hosts were accommodating and helped us navigate the menu around some allergy and dietary restrictions. Had the special of curry shrimp ramen and it was solid! Felt like the flavor was lacking just a bit so I couldn't give the food 5 stars but it's definitely a good spot to try out if you like ramen or want to try it for the first time like I did! read more

I absolutely love this place. Let's start with the music selection, if you enjoy hip hop this is the place, nothing but classics. Next Appetizers the wings . The fried chicken kimchi ramen is spicy AF but delicious. Your nose will definitely be running by the time you're half way through the bowl. Dessert any flavor of the ice cream. Update So I've been coming here for awhile now, but the Huron location is great bc it's right under my job. They also offer the kimchi fried chicken on the lunch menu. We came for a date night and made a reservation online. We were seated right away and had great service with attentive staff throughout. We shared an wings, dumplings, and ramen which were each spot on. I love the spices and it was great pores with Yuzu margarita for my husband and Yuzu lemonade for me. We decided to go to Ramen-San to celebrate being fully vaccinated! When making a reservation, it's recommended to book online. Options for seating include: indoor, outdoor, and outdoor with heat lamp. We reserved outdoor with heat lamp but when arriving we noticed their indoor dining actually had the windows/store front completely open. This made us feel very comfortable and you can tell they cared about making their customers feel safe during the pandemic. We decided to give indoors a try. We tried the Laksa Ramen, Karaage Chicken Nuggets, and Fried Brussels Laksa Ramen - the limited edition ramen caught our eye immediately. Understanding how much effort it takes to make a good laksa we couldn't pass on the opportunity to try it. You can smell the spices and lemon grass immediately when it was brought over. Broth had great flavor and the spices definitely add some heat to the dish. Shrimp was cooked nicely. Fried tofu was cooked perfectly but we had to move it to a separate dish otherwise it was going to get completely soaked by the broth (we're big on getting that nice crunch with fried food). If there's one thing we could have asked for it was for the broth to be richer. It also lacked the nice rich dark color you find in traditional laksa. But all in all a very delicious dish. Karaage Chicken Nuggets - perfectly fried chicken thighs with a side of their lime kosho aioli. What makes this dish stand out is the aioli. The aioli helps bring out the flavor of the karaage as well as brings balance to the dish with it's citrus notes. Fried Brussels - roasted brussels, we were a big fan of these. Came with a tofu sauce and topped with scallions and crispy shallots. Definitely a good ramen place but not the best we've had. Would definitely come back to try their other ramen! read more

Had this the other day. Went with a bigger group so we had an array of appetizers. Pork and chicken bao, smoked salmon nigiri, XO dumplings, and Thai and Szechuan chicken wings. All of the appetizers were very... very good. The ramen was slightly above average I'd say... not the best but the flavor was there and I was really hungry even after all those appetizers. The broth being the best part which is always most important. I had the special of the day which was a spicy miso broth ramen. As always I left the bowl cleaned. The dessert menu was cute although I didn't try anything off of it. As well as the sign to the bathroom being the emoji..lol Overall it's a good restaurant. This is my mom's favorite place to get ramen because of the Kimchi and Fried Chicken Ramen...this is where we agree to disagree. The vibe is pretty nice, I can say that for sure. The high stools, the open bar, and dim lighting really add a sense of dimension to the area as well as the explicit hip hop that plays through the speakers. The pork belly bao is super overpriced but really cute and quite tasty-if only it wasn't so small :( I usually get the simple Tonkatsu Ramen. It's nice and rich, but almost too rich. It's super fatty and oily, which is typical of a tonkatsu broth but I was left feeling a little sick to my stomach afterward. The noodles were very good as well as the pork provided in the dish. The ramen did have some nut like factor that I thought was rather strange. I also have gotten the Sumo Ramen, which has umami dumplings and a spicy crushed egg. This was also very greasy but it offered a dimension that the tonkatsu doesn't have. My only complaint is that the spicy crushed egg is truly... crushed. I didn't even get to have that creaminess of the yolk in any bite, which was quite sad. My mom gets the Kimchi and Fried Chicken, which is not up my alley. She really likes it though, so for those who like kimchi and tried chicken or those who want some spice in their life, this is the ramen to get. I do give this place credit for coming up with a unique ramen option. The green tea creme puff is delicious, but be warned, it is BIG. Definitely save room for dessert. We were in the area because we heard about High-Five Ramen. What we didn't know was that you must be there when they open (@5:00pm) to put a name down or else you won't get in! So we opted for Ramen-San which was down the street. Ramen-San is a moderately sized restaurant. With a long bar, where you can eat also, high tables, and tables. Great if you're doing a single lunch, mid-large groups, dates, or a casual bite to eat. The service was a little bit slow, but their waitresses here do everything - host, take orders, deliver food, make drinks behind the bar, you name it. All responsibilities considered, it was relatively great service. Our waitress was super kind, helpful, and made sure that every body in our group had a great experience. Our table ended up ordering Tonkotsu bowl and fried chicken buns. The Tonkotsu broth was so rich and creamy. The broth temperature was perfect. The ramen itself was chewy and plentiful. My one snag is that the cha shu pork belly was very tough and they only gave us half of a molten egg. What I thought Ramen-San was missing was the options of side rice bowls! But otherwise, I'm glad I gave Ramen-San a try. read more

Service was amazing! This was my first time back since January! The hostess was very nice to me and my mother! The food was delicious and hot! I usually order the Kimchi and Fried Chicken only, but I wanted to try the pork fried rice. I loved it! It was a great experience being back at Ramen San! I was there around 2pm, not busy at all. Request of the night was "a ramen place we hadn't been to and that wasn't too far away". Since we're kind of obsessed with ramen, this was difficult, but ramen-san met both criteria. Ambiance was dim and pleasant, but in the end, the ramen was not too much to our liking. The tonkatsu ($14) was not bad but the broth was a little lacking. The kimchi ($16) looked promising but it ended up just seeming like a hodge podge of items that didnt go well together as ramen. The broth was spicy, it was an interesting flavor but it didn't really leave me craving more. The kimchi and corn just had the exact flavor as the broth with a different texture. The katsu, the part I was most looking forward to, looked good and was cooked well but it just tasted a little out of place and bland. They don't really have many options for the ramen (at this location anyway) and it didn't seem like any of the others would be better for us. The other downfall of the night was the bun ($5) which was more expensive than any other ramen place I've been to and too chewy to get through. The best thing we got was the spicy dumplings ($9) which were a good value and enough for sharing. They also have a nice selection of alcohol. read more

Again, I'm picky with ramen and this did not get me lethargic due to possible MSG with other ramens. This was good ramen, but a little salty for my liking as I kept eating. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the first thing I noticed was the pork was completely burnt. They didn't even give me thick pieces of meat they gave me the end pieces charred to a crisp. The egg was also just a soft boiled egg, no flavor. They did give me regular pork belly after I told them mine was completely burnt and black. Very disappointing the broth came out cold and noodles were soggy. Wouldn't recommend the yuzu ramen at all, again very different from how other yuzu based ramen do it. Originally came here for a late night ramen, but for a 15$ ramen, you would have expected the noodles to be a bit more authentic but nothing similar to ramen shops in Japan, more like what you get from the supermarket. And the piece of pork was like tough and over fried, ended up just having a bite, you can see how seriously fried the piece of meat was.
