We had been invited to join our friends to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on July 8. We had a great time with our friends and the restaurant was not overly busy for a Wednesday evening. Appetizers were ordered, stuffed mushrooms & cajon shrimp and they were very delicious. Our server Ed, was very attentive as were the other assistants. We all ordered our dinners and here is where it kind of went downhill. Our friend ordered the lobster only and his wife ordered steak & lobster. Our server placed the orders into the kitchen and not too long Ed returned to tell us they only had one lobster left. So it was decided that our friend who wanted the lobster only got the lobster and his wife opted just for the steak. Food was served and when our friend tasted the lobster he immediately stopped as he said the lobster tasted old. He advised Ed who asked if he wanted a replacement of shrimp, and he said no. It spoiled his appetite and so he just ate some mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Very disappointing for our friend who really wanted lobster. The restaurant provided a slice of cheesecake for their anniversary. Now, to me, the one slice was very slim. For the inconvenience they just had, a slice for both of them would have been more appropriate and not cut so slim. My humble opinion is that slice may be something you would have served to a child. They brought 4 forks for us to share that slim piece. The restaurant is always so clean and friendly settings. We all enjoy our favorite server, Ed. We all will be back, but hopefully if ordered; the lobster will be better than this visit. read more

Clear cut review of the Sycamore Inn is what I'd call a textbook case of an outdated restaurant in terms of food quality and overall satisfaction from taste and ambiance. The building itself is probably 100 years old with renovations keeping it on life support. The smell and overall design is not what I'd come back for. The historical aspect is cool.. I suppose. The service was good, a standard expected from their prices. The food itself was a disappointment. The crab cakes were more like salt cakes with a dash of crab, pooled in the sauce. The prime rib in the bottom of my photo may look amazing, but alas, it was harder to cut than a well done ribeye. This was their "medium rare" option that looked more like medium Now, the plate to the left was requested at medium, but as you can see, it looks well done. The sides were passable, but I feel I can replicate the same taste through canned product with some fresh ingredients. The only good things about the meal was the service and attention. I read great reviews about this restaurant and made reservations to dine and experience this old school steakhouse first hand. I loved the cozy and warm feeling of the wood-framed house, complete with a "porch" as you enter and a fireplace indoors. My wife and I made reservations at Sycamore Inn for our anniversary. We have driven past it so many times over the years but never stopped in. I am really glad we finally did. The atmosphere was great and made for a perfect anniversary dinner. Our server was fantastic. He was very attentive, courteous, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. We started with the calamari, then shared the 16 oz ribeye with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and a couple glasses of wine. Everything was exceptional. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were full of flavor, and you could tell a lot of care went into every dish. It was a great experience from start to finish and we will definitely be back. My friend Marlene from Rancho Cucamonga in the Inland Empire in California recommended this old school, been around for a 150 years steakhouse with excellent martinis plus a wonderful wine list institution. It is in an old house right on the north side of Foothill Blvd or historic Rt 66 actually. Open only for dinner we got there at 7 pm and were seated in the dining area by the bar. It was dark and I just loved the beautiful and colorful lamps. Felt the old school vibe in the air. Atmosphere - 5 stars - nice and mellow. The room - really cool. The bar was happening and popping. Really fun group. We were in the dark and docile section and had to get the flashlights on our phones to check out the menu. The food - 5 stars- great Calamari. Awesome salmon ( charbroiled with really delicious sides- mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus). The other appetizer was the guac mash which was also really nice. Came with warm bread. Table next to us got really awesome looking steaks. Lobster looked yummy as well. The drinks - Marlene had a couple of Pineapple cosmos and she said they were strrrrrronggggg. The service - 5 stars plus - our waitress Eva was really great. Very attentive and talked to us for a bit not rushing us out at 9 pm. Bartender( lady) and Manager also were really cool. After 7 years of living in Upland, finally had the opportunity to try the infamous Sycamore Inn. We went in casually dressed after a Sunday gathering and were pleasantly surprised. First off, the restaurant is still set back in the early 1900's so it feels like you just stepped into a Time Machine. The staff were all so pleasant and attentive from the hostess to the waiters. This location has a bar to the right upon entering which seems very casual, while the main dining area is filled with dozens of dinner tables and more formal. There is an upper level and lower level that are considered banquet rooms. When we arrived, there was a graduation party taking place in the upper level. Now for the main course, the FOOD. As I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised from appetizers to the main course. We tried the oysters Rockefeller($27 for 4 oysters), stuffed mushrooms ($19), and a 22oz Rib Eye steak ($84) to share with a side of the Mac n cheese. The steak was cooked to our perfect request of Medium and the appetizers were very tasty. I would pass on the Mac n cheese as not anything special to its flavor. They provide bread with a side of plain butter and a sun-dried tomato butter. Bread was warm and fresh. We arrived 30 mins prior to closing and never felt rushed and service was great. We recently enjoyed a banquet at Sycamore Inn with our club. We had about 75 attendees and used their downstairs banquet room. From the outside this restaurant is very inviting with its huge trees surrounding what seems to be a historic home. The inside can definitely use a rehab as carpet was old and frayed, walls dingy and with outdated decor. We ordered their filet mignon which was overcooked. It had a demiglaze which was good but there wasn't enough and I wished I had asked for more. It came with a side of mashed potatoes which was amazing as well perfectly cooked garlic string beans. They provide complementary sour dough bread which was warm and so delicious! Their dinner salad was a disappointment as it was limp, didnt seem fresh and was literally just lettuce and dressing. What they lacked in ambience they definitely made up for with their service. Staff were friendly and very accommodating and probably one of the best features of this restaurant. Would I return? I wished I got their names but this was on Mother's Day, 2026 and we had a reservation for 10 at 4:30. Our reservation initially was for the veranda, but the restaurant called and moved us into the Cucamonga room. Because our reservation was for veranda, the majority of our guests were looking prior to our reservation on the menu for what to order. Prior to being seated, we were waiting outside for the establishment to open and you can clearly see they were not ready to have any type of Mother's Day celebration of tables outside under their canopy, as the tables were not even set up. I'm guessing this was the reason why we were moved to the Cucamonga room. Normally we would have been fine with this move but the waitress, blonde hair, pony tail, I wish I would've got her name, was extremely rude when we had told her, that some of us would like to order off the other menu, after she only gave us the menu for inside (most expensive). She looked at us and sort of shook her head and said, I cannot do that. I will have to ask my manager because that menu is for outside. I kindly said, we were supposed to sit outside and the restaurant moved us. She came back and told us only two people out of 10 were allowed to order off of the outside menu. I personally got upset at this because this is completely wrong as the restaurant was the one that moved us, clearly because they were not ready for Mother's Day outside and then they want to handcuff us to the inside menu only My sisters did not want me to make a big deal of this because it was Mother's Day, so I am doing this now, while I have the time and would hope that this establishment changes that policy. The reason why we picked this place was because my mom and dad would frequent the sycamore inn back in the 60's and was hoping to bring something familiar back to our Mom. You simply just don't get treated the same anymore. The food was decent, probably could have been better had we had a kinder waitress or a manager that would have allowed anyone of us to order off whatever menu we want after being moved to the inside by the restaurant. Just left us feeling like it was a $$$ grab x10. Anyway, our reservation was for 10 on May 10, 2026 at 4:30 in the Cucamonga room, if this helps the restaurant understand who our servers were. The bread was soft and fluffy. (We didn't even get bread last time). I don't think we had so much attention. There was lots of parking. We did come at 7 PM so I don't know if that also played a part. So disappointed in Sycamore Inn. They haven't been answering their phones. It's become very difficult to make a reservation, which they request. (It used to be "first come, first served" in the bar area, but since the pandemic they have made you have reservations in the bar area, which is the only area of the restaurant that we like.) I made a reservation through OpenTable on their website 5 days ago requesting a booth in bar area. They had confirmed my reservation by text and email. Then they call me an hour and 15 minutes before the reservation (when I'm already on my way to pick up my parents to take them to the restaurant) saying they can't seat us anywhere in the bar area. They confirm twice, then can't honor it an hour before dinner?! Are they trying to force people into the rooms they want? Are they just poorly managed that they don't check their reservation confirmations until the day of, when they were made 5 days ago and autoconfimed? Are they so busy that they don't care about how they treat customers? I don't know what you have to do to get a seat in the bar area. Despite their servers always being fantastic, their management and hosts have been subpar. This is around the 4th time we've had issues with the hosts, reservations, and seating. For those of us who enjoy a good bourbon with a steak, options like Eagle Rare 10 Year, E.H. Taylor, or even Blanton's would be a great addition. The restaurant is super cute but we chose to sit on the patio where the heaters were on and we could have a nice conversation since the bar was packed. I am usually freezing and Garett was nice enough to turn the heater up to make sure we were comfortable without us even asking! Let's talk food which is why you're here. Like Blue Cheese?! Get the mushrooms! My GOODNESS! They were so good and so stuffed! The crab cakes were also ultra delicious and the hubby said they were the best he's ever had. The cheese plate was just okay. What a good steakhouse. My prime rib was perfectly medium rare and a huge portion. One of the things I love about a good prime rib is that each bite just melts like whip cream in your mouth. The potatoes au gratin was a delight too. I mean--for me that's the standard side with any huge beef meal. I just find it pairs perfectly. I also had a bite or three of the lobster tail on offer and that will definitely by an option for the next visit. I love the service. Raul our service pretty much kicked ass on every request, anticipating every question and concern. He even had time to tell stories and share pictures like a long-lost uncle.
