From the outside it looks like Rancho Grande would be bigger but inside it's like one big open room. It was packed last night around 6:30PM. Thank goodness my co workers already had a table by the time I got there. Tables are a bit small and close together but the atmosphere remained intimate rather than crowded. The staff went above and beyond and were just delightful! Awesome job fellas! I had two different drinks and they were BOMB!!! My favorite was The Paloma, I give it a 10 out of 10! Do not sleep on this place, came because of my husbands co-workers suggestion. He did not disappoint at all!! Never had such fresh chips and salsa in my life, and I'm a huge Mexican food fan. My mom lived in Mexico for my entire childhood and I've had lots of great food in Vallarta and Bucerias Mexico. When the food came it was just hit after hit. Came in with the intention of picking up some Tacos on Taco Tuesday for $2/each to go, then going to hang out with some friends. Unfortunately we have to dine in to get the $2 tacos or if I were taking them to go they'd be $3.50 each. Sadly we ended up staying and our friends couldn't join us so they missed out. Yelp gave us Rancho Grande Mexican Grill in the heart of Bakersfield, California, home of the real Mexican communities, accordingly to most of the reviews. Rancho Grande Mexican Grill is located on a strip mall on Panama Lane, a couple of miles from the Freeway 5 Exit, very accessible to passing motorists and customers. I enjoyed their Carne Asada, one of the best I had so far, medium cooked, perfect beans and rice, a chile and perfectly served by our server Rosita. Before, all these foods were served, Rosita our server brought a plate of freshly cut avocados, salsa and a huge stone plate where he nicely showcased her guacamole-making skills and talent. Wow! We also had the shrimp (Gambas) entree and was excellent, prepared with some Alfredo like sauce and other veggies, it tasted like a 5 star dish. The salads were equally fresh and my sister wiped that out, too. Her comment was that, why don't other Mexican restaurants be like Rancho Mexican Grill? LOL Their soup was equally amazing and it quench my thirst of real food after a harrowing experience from our Lake Tahoe trip. This was the 1st time I visit this establishment. It was quite busy due to the concert that was happening on this day so I took that into consideration in my review. This is a very small place too. Not really good for big parties because of the space. On this visit we had reservations which were a plus and they did their best to seat our party. We probably wait 15-20 after our reservation time. When we finally got seated we had our drink order taken. We all got our drinks but 1 person in our group waited an additional 15 to get his drink which was just a fountain drink. We asked for separate tickets and they said ok. Our order was the Shrimp fajitas and boy were these so good. The flavor was perfect and the beans had great flavor too. I went on a Daddy Daughter date with my two daughters and found this place by mistake after going the wrong way down Panama. That wrong turn led us here and we are happy that it did. I'll leave my review in 3 parts. Server - Our Main server was Maria and she was an AWESOME server . Aside from Maria there was a sweet older woman who came right over to our table not 2 minutes after we sat down and brought us chips and salsa and took our drink order. Which came out like 30 seconds later. This woman needs a raise. I didn't see her stop running back and forth the entire time I was there. Ok, back to Maria. Maria was awesome. She was quick to take our order and get it out to us. Every single time she passed by our table, she made sure to ask if we were good. She even asked if we needed refills while our cups were half full. Nobody does that anymore. Her service was impeccable and she was super attentive to us. The chips and salsa were fire ! Warm chips and the salsa was fresh too. No complaints there at all. My plate. (Shrimp) came out steaming hot on a skillet with a side plate of rice, beans, guacamole. And the portions were huge ! Same goes for the other two plates. As soon as me and my daughter's seen the plates we said - "Yeah this is about to be good" and it was. Everything was flavorful, hot, and I think my Shrimp were on steroids. Those things were HUGE. Also they tasted so good. All of the food was really good. This was my first time eating here. I received a warm, friendly greeting upon entering and was seated right away. The restaurant was very clean and the restroom was as well. I was there during the lunch special time so I got the combo plate with a shredded beef hard taco and a shredded chicken enchilada with rice and beans for just $15.95. I've been here for lunch and the food was good. I thought I'd give it a try for breakfast because I really wanted pozole and saw it on their menu thru Yelp. They no longer serve it because it was discontinued...which was a bummer, but I figured I'd just order something else. My son and I both ordered green chilaquiles and they were the most horrible and sad example of chilaquiles I've ever tasted. The presentation was great. Salsa looked appetizing and there was scrambled egg on top. I noticed that they were covered in raw red onion. Which was weird considering that there was already an over abundance of cooked onion mixed in with the sauce. The salsa completely lacked any flavor. It wasn't zesty, it wasn't spicy, it wasn't anything but bad. The rice and beans were ok. My son pulled three hairs from his food. We both left about half of the meal, got up to pay, and left. They have very fresh chips the salsa is out of this world delicious has very good flavor and spice. They have a wide variety of items to choose from appetizers to main courses and deserts. There are a lot of great Mexican spots in Bakersfield and I'd heard great things about Rancho Grande, but it just wasn't my favorite. I'll start off with some positives though. Our large party was able to get seated immediately for lunch. They had cute Christmas decor already set up and were quick to provide us with service. Our food came out immediately. The rice and beans with my dish were delicious and really enjoyable. I also liked that the salsa that came with the chips had a nice picante kick to it! I ordered the mole enchiladas and they were a miss. The chicken inside was really dry and the mole wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped. It'd be worth trying something else but I wasn't impressed. I was craving good Mexican food and stumbled upon this treasure. Everything from the food to the service was outstanding. It's a beautiful and colorful dining experience with a usually full dining room. I ordered the carne asada medium rare and when I received it unfortunately it was cooked well done. I let my waitress know and she immediately handled it and was so kind and got me a whole new plate to make up for it!! They handle the situation quickly and the re-make was absolutely delicious!! This is our favorite location, even though the one on Brimhall is closer... Never leave disappointed. Im a basic bro, taco/enchilada with green olives with rice and beans for me and its always so good. The enchilada sauces are all fantastic. The wife varies her orders between seafood enchiladas, chili verde, and chili colorado, of which all are great, again all of the different sauces are so good. Service is alway good, prices are inline with just about all the other mexican food joints as well... The one thing I am not a fan of is their chips and salsa, the chips stick to my teeth really bad and the salsa is so tangy/acidic that it makes my tongue tingle, not sure what it is, but I tend to avoid them both. I am from TX but grew up in the San Fernando Valley. We came here for dinner two weeks ago and it was very busy. That is usually a good sign. Met up girlfriends for a little Galentine's dinner last night. The location is convenient for me since I live less than a mile from this location. Walking up to the restaurant, you'll notice that windows are see-through so if you're dining by the window seats, people can literally see you as they drive by in the parking lot. As you walk in, you'll notice that the place is lit. And when I say lit, I mean it's bright. Maybe I half expected the lighting to be a little more subdued to create a certain ambiance that I'm used to from other Mexican restaurants in town. Anyway, on to the main stuff! We asked for the drink menu. Well...there is no drink menu here. You order what you want from the server whether that's a margarita with mango or pineapple juice, salt or Tajin-rimmed, on the rocks or blended. Your partner can also order beer by the glass or the jug. Although, the food menu is pretty extensive, I didn't think there was anything that truly wowed me about it. The plates and portions were huge but a lot more care could've been taken serving the dish on it. The beans look unappetizing ok the plate and the rice seems like it's been sitting in the steam table a while because it's dried out. With so many other restaurants within a 3 mile radius from this location, there are definitely tastier spots that deliver on flavor. Giving it 3/5 because our server was nice. At some point, I'll probably have to pay it another visit to see if it can sway me to be a regular. read more
