WOW. It's been a long time since I've updated my reviews of Rancho Las Palmas. After having dinner there last night, I realized I need to shoot out an update! Honestly very little has changed. Through the COVID drama, they stayed open, doing first take-out and then outdoor dining. We're back to indoor if we want it, but al fresco is still available. The quality of the food and the service have continued to be excellent. We've introduced RLP to our close friends and not only do we meet them there often, but they eat there without us plenty as well. Since my last update, I've been introduced to Micheladas and Margaritas with Tamarindo, which are SO FREAKING YUMMY. I try new things here and there, but seriously, I still love the flautas. Last night I got enchiladas and asked for a side of queso fresco to eat with my chips. Felt like I was down in Baja. This restaurant is often quiet and not busy although there are times it gets full, but no matter what, the service is great, the food yummy and the prices totally decent. We still love Rancho Las Palmas and I think you should eat there! read more

Please don't come here with the expectation of a taco shop or order something you could have ordered at alberto's down the street. This is a working class diner, true Mexican fare menu with various selections to appease the local crowd. I encourage you to try something you wouldn't order on your way home from a wild night out. The bacon wrapped shrimp with cheese are amazing and come with a side of rice beans and salad. I highly recommend this dish. The interior leaves much to be desired but don't let that overcast their amazing food. I am really surprised this place doesn't have higher rating, but that might be due to the limited amount of reviews or fake reviews with profiles with limited reviews. Came with my wife and her service dog on a Saturday. I ordered the Carne Asada Combination plate. The me came out as 5 small wafer thin slices of rancheros steak was uncut and were cold upon arrival. The refried beans were good, but the rice was dry. When i brought the cold asada to their attention they offered to put it back on the grill. Even after i had eaten off it. They said i couldn't replace it with another item if i was unhappy with it. The store bought chips with the jarred salsa were unappetizing. The tables have salt, but you have to ask for pepper which you get in packets. 15.99 for that? Btw, no ambiance. I wont be back. Hope we dont get ill. My wife and I just visited this restaurant night before last. Owners are very nice and will actually stop and talk with you. Very clean inside. If you want salsa and chips you must ask. And they do have a better fresh 3 varieties. Just ask. No charge. Food was good but serving was small compared to other competitors. We WILL be going back . We enjoyed it. This evening, I ordered takeout food from Rancho Las Palmas. I called in my order and the wait time was great...15 min. I live very close so it was very convenient. The restaurant is very clean and staff was super friendly. My order was exactly what I had asked for...no missing items or mixup's. The food certainly could use some improvement. My son ordered the carne asada brochetas (skewered meat). He said the meat was a bit tough. He did like the grilled veggies. My daughter ordered the carnitas plate and the carnitas were a bit dry. I ordered the gobernador tacos and the shrimp were not deveined. Yuck! I did like the veggies in the tacos. My husband enjoyed his breakfast burrito. We also ordered the rolled tacos. They were good except...melted Jack cheese! Come on! Let's put cotija cheese on "them tacos." Rice and beans were tasty. Also, the salsas were good. OUCH I had to lower my star rating on this place. This is based on a meal we had, that was terrible. Tacos were deep fried to death, burnt shell dripping in grease. Meat singed and very little lettuce. That was the tacos on the 2 taco plate. I got a carne asada burrito, not good either. Meat was chewy and fatty, tasted old, the guacamole was nasty. We ordered 2 breakfast burritos for the morning, and they were only ok. Again they were full of more potatoes chunks then egg, ham and cheese. Seems potatoes chunks make cheap filler, can't find a decent breakfast burrito anywhere in Escondido. I'm giving them two stars because the server discounted my tacos when I wasn't happy and the rice and beans were good. I ordered the mar y tlerra tacos and the carne asada is really thin and therefor flavorless and the shrimp is not cleaned which I've never seen before. It's unforgivable really and makes me not trust the food. We will never go back because of that alone. My BF ordered the rolled tacos which they assured us were made from scratch but they looked awfully uniform and tasted frozen. We only went because our favorite spot is closed on Mondays. The service started off ok not great but ok and everyone was going decent up until the waiter came to take a plate and clearly picked up more than she could she was struggling with four plates and got two more all the aguachile juice fell on my husbands pants and his WHITE SHOES and they are not cheap shoes he was highly upset the waiter just said "oppps sorry" and walked away it was a little splash it was all the juice and a simple $50 meal cost us triple since his shoes were wet and they can't be washed as they are expensive shoes. The absolute worst California Burrito in town. The reviews looked so promising. An unexplored treasure trove of traditional (Escondido regional) dishes and tacos. All that was missing was a live Ranchera band and a Quinceanera in the their banquet room. Alas, foiled again by questionable positive reviews. The Story - Rancho Las Palmas is Located in Escondido's seamy district with multiple cheap motels and even cheaper ladies of the evening. Nothing too fancy on the inside, pottery on the walls, beer posters, and ESPN Deportes playing on a big screen TV. We ordered a few diverse menu items and I got a bottle of Mexican Coke.. All was good. The food came out and looked delicious. I honestly thought a scored a big Yelp coup with this place. I made sure I took a few pictures then I ripped into the burrito with my fork to taste it.. This California burrito was one of the worst I've ever had.. Here's why. Perhaps I made a mistake ordering my burrito "wet" style. Because at Las Palmas "wet" means inside and out! There was sooo much American style guac and Mexican crème in the burrito it could have posed as a liquefied 7-layer dip. The asada (there was a large portion of it) was so salty and tough that we couldn't really eat it. Clearly this was old meat and salted to last longer. Keep in mind that Las Palmas isn't the type of place where you send back your food... I had to gracefully rearrange the burrito to make it look like we had eaten most of it.. . (I'm sure you've been there / done that before). On the positive, the traditional ( plates) like enchiladas with rice and beans were a hit with the kids. Summation, stay away from their burritos and go for standard plates. read more
