The care I had was wonderful. I first met with the lovely assistant that asked me questions about my braces. She took great care of me during my X ray. Then I got to speak to a dentist. She was very considerate and empathetic of my situation. I went to Mexicali where my teeth are at risk of no longer existing due to their horrible care. I wish I would've known sooner if this office. They may have been able to save my teeth. It was pricey as all dental care is but my insurance did help tremendously. The gentleman that cleaned my mouth took excellent care of me and would stop if ever I was in pain. I can't wait to go back and that's something I never thought I'd say about a dental office. I was very dissatisfied with my experience at this dental office. I was given an extensive and expensive treatment plan that included several procedures I do not believe I need and that differed significantly from recommendations I received from another dentist I have seen for years. This included a surgical wisdom tooth extraction and oral surgery consultation rather than the simple extraction I had previously been advised I needed, as well as over $300 out of pocket for ridge preservation, even though I specifically explained that I was not planning to have an implant or bone graft. I also was especially concerned that a broken tooth my previous dentist believed could potentially be restored with a post and crown was instead recommended for extraction and replacement with a denture. When I questioned the treatment plan and costs, the front desk employee was rude and ultimately told me I would be better off going to another office. I agree. I will be getting another opinion and taking my dental care elsewhere. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this office, and I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to an extensive treatment plan here. read more

Last week I had a dental emergency, somehow I developed a very painful periodontal abscess. Needing a surgical procedure to resolve. The office helped me go thru the options and understand insurance coverage to make a decision. Today, Dr. Herrera walked me thru the procedure and had me out of the chair in record time! I've been going to this dentist for around 20 years. All was wonderful until I needed dentures. They did all the prep work, making molds, taking measurements, and all that. The dentures arrived and they fit well and I could eat with them, but when I tried to remove them, it hurt so much I would scream. They tried to fix it six times over the space of a couple months. It still hurt a lot when I went to remove them. They said they could no longer fix them because they were running out of plastic. I said, well, I paid around $4000 for a set of dentures I cannot use. They would not create another set of dentures for me and I could not afford to pay for another set. Then, during an exam, they told me I might need dentures for my upper teeth. I have had 2 appointments for dental check-ups cancelled twice. Each time I get close to an appointment, I am told the dentist will not be there. Due to being cancelled, I am told all future appointments are booked out for 6 months! It will be a year since a check up if I wait this latest cancellation out full term. I am highly disappointed as I once spoke very highly of the services I received from a former dentist and a dental hygienist. Getting a competent dentist in the Coachella Valley isn't easy. Have had problems getting an appointment with a dental hygienist to get an appointment for teeth cleaning. Talked to my insurance company and Desert Gateway was on their list of referrals. Called them up. Told them I haven't had a cavity in 20 years and wanted to get my teeth cleaned. They said I'd have to do X-rays and see a dentist but they'd do everything they could to get me in for an appointment with a hygenist the same day of my appointment. They booked me for an appointment on a Friday at 2pm. Neglected to tell me they close on Fridays at 3pm. Got to the appointment on time. Did the X-rays and consultation with the dentist. Asked what the next step was to get a basic cleaning. They told me I'd have to talk to their "consultant" who came into the room and told me it would be $1700 for their "deep cleaning" service. Was told it was necessary by the "consultant" for "good hygiene." By the way, the consultant had the worst breath I'd ever had the misfortune to smell. Then was told they were closing and I'd get an appointment to come back a week later. I took their appointment card and just left. Called them when I got home. They were closed at 3:30 on a Friday. Called again on Monday and told the woman answering the phone that I've had two "deep cleanings" in the last few years and didn't want to do those anymore. Just expensive and not worth it. And $1700? No thanks. I just wanted a standard cleaning. She put me on hold for 10 minutes and I just hung up. Called my insurance company and told them I wasn't happy. $1700 for a "deep cleaning?" When I had clearly said I wanted a standard cleaning on the day of my appointment and they booked me in for a 2pm appointment when they knew they were closing at 3? Run. Don't just walk away. I initially felt safe and confident choosing this dental office they made a great first impression. But unfortunately, that quickly changed. I went in for a front crown, and the results were terrible. My teeth now look worse than before the crown doesn't match at all, and each tooth is a different color. I hate smiling now because of how unnatural it looks. What's worse is that they refused to fix their mistake. I trusted them, especially Dr. LeBard, but that trust was completely broken. Please do not trust Dr. LeBard. She made a mistake and then left me to deal with it. On top of that, the price I was quoted was much lower than what I was actually charged in the end. They took away my confidence, and I deeply regret ever walking into that office. Nice staff but they have no idea what they are doing and they will take all your money. My temporary crown fell out 3 times and my real crown fell off once when I was flossing. Furthermore, the second time it was put on it was put on wrong because half off the crown had a gap so it was going to potentially fall off. I went to a new dentist because I couldn't trust this office and many people told me run far away. The new dentist suggested I take it off and put a new one in because it was going to fall off anyway. I tried getting a refund and the office said no because I should have came back to them to see if they can fix it. Total fraud. I can't believe I wasted my time trying a new dentist. I have always had healthy normal teeth. They did a Full set of X-rays (the kind I can only get every three years). I didn't love this- to me it's a sign of diving right into my/insurance pocket. I asked three times why there were so many x-rays and he said it is required. I then had the exam and a man came in to show me I needed a special laser cleaning, vitamin injection into tooth and some other items. I said no thank you, I would just like a normal cleaning. He said NO. So I asked are you telling me I cannot just get a normal cleaning? And he said no sorry. So I had to leave and go to my normal dentist. 1. I just found out they LIED to me and were not in network for my insurance. 2. I just found out some of these extensive x-rays are ONLY for ortho treatment and just ate into my lifetime orthodontic plan. 3. And since they are OUT OF NETWORK I am supposed to pay $359.00 out of my pocket for X-Rays I didn't ask for. 4. The medical record contains blatant lies. 5. I went to my own dentist a week later and the gum measurements were completely different. This is WRONG. These people are liars, cheaters and dangerous. read more

Please don't go here! First they tried to pull a tooth my original dentist just said needed a root canal. They had no plan whatsoever. I walked out before receiving any treatment after he said that. I went back to my original dentist and his endodantist did the root canal and told me I was very smart for walking out of desert gateway because there was zero reasons why they needed to pull my tooth. He said my tooth was perfectly healthy. So after all this desert gateway charges me so I try obviously get my money back because who charges someone when they haven't got anything done. A couple weeks go by and desert gateway charges me again for 280$ when I literally didn't receive any service! I walked out! So now I have to dispute this charge! Ok, look... You go to a bad Mechanic, you can always replace a part. You go to a bad tailor, you can always get a new suit. Your teeth are something that cannot be replaced, and should be treated seriously! Let me start off by saying the people who work here are very nice; this review is not targeted to the people working here. The place is nice and clean, but it's also expensive and nightmarish. Also, I have poor dental hygiene. I didnt brush my teeth for years when I was a kid. I will admit to that, but now let's talk about why i would not recommend this dental group. My insurance company recommended it, which was the first mistake. NEVER GO TO THE ONE YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY RECOMMENDS! Anyway... I needed a root canal done two years ago. It was expensive, about $2400; but I was in pain, and I needed it done. I got the root canal, and there were no problems for 2 years; until my crown and dental filling came off. I went back, and they said that my tooth needed to be pulled... uhmm, what?? Apparantly, a cavity was growing underneath and rotting my tooth. Then, I was quoted $2400 to get my tooth pulled. I took my stuff, went to another dentist, was told it did not need to be pulled, he could put the crown back on, and when I asked how much a pulled tooth would cost, I was quoted way less. I'm sure my tooth will need to be pulled later, and I am getting better at brushing my teeth. However, the other dentist told me everything I was doing wrong, everything! From how I brush my teeth, to the kinds of toothpaste I need to use, to how often I need to get a cleaning, to even how what I eat was affecting my teeth. He gave me a quick cleaning, requested I get a second cleaning tomorrow, and put me on a schedule to not only fix my teeth, but also clean them. I never had that kind of information given to me at Desert Dental. Come to think of it, I never got a proper cleaning after I got my root canal. I didnt think I needed one. It wasnt till I actually got a cleaning today I realized how valuable getting a cleaning is. So, again... the people working at Desert Dental are really nice, but a mix of how much everything costed and the bad experience left a sour taste in my mouth, and I sadly cannot recommend them. read more

Very Disappointed! It seems they are running an insurance scam at this location. They refused to give me a cleaning without taking x-rays, and they do this twice a year. They force my toddler to get x-rays twice a year, even though it is completely unnecessary, just so the office and insurance company can collect more money at every appointment. I was shocked to read so many negative comments. I have been with this practice since early this year and have been very impressed with both my check up with Jennifer and my cleaning with Dean. They were both personable polite and professional and extremely thorough. My pockets were 5s and 6s when I had my first check up and are now 3s and 4s. I'm delighted. I caution anyone considering this practice. As a new resident I needed to establish biannual dental cleaning. Over 70, I had always been good my teeth were great. Never had a filling or anything worse. First visit the dentist scared me into committing to several extra cleaning services not covered by insurance, making me think my teeth were on the verge of falling out. I know, I should have thought of a second opinion. Totally bogus. All those extra cleaning techniques, maybe 5-10 minutes. Don't try using their website's email option. Office manager says they don't read them. They are too busy. I made the mistake of complaining about the email response and was told that if I am not 110% satisfied that they will no longer let me be a patient. Don't make the same mistake I did. If you do, don't ever criticize them, or you will also get the boot. read more

I am so glad these guys are in my dental insurance coverage area. I walked in on a Friday morning at 7 AM with a front porcelain crown that snapped off at the gumline the prior evening. These people took me right in, set me down and explained my options. mind you I did not have cavities or need a root canal. I am an outside sales manager for a local company which means I go out every day and meet with my clients. You can imagine my anxiety level with a missing front tooth. They ended up providing me with a very affordable cosmetic temporary bridge. The doctor explained that I needed to have a bone graft in the gumline .with I freaked out and thought it was going to be like a two month process however I was in there less than three hours and I literally got to go out and finish my workday without any worries of how my smile looked. Thanks guys I look forward to coming back to be fitted for the permanent bridge in 30 days. read more

I was a patient here for 4 years and had 2 major dental procedures- no issues. Referred my husband who had a broken front tooth. Started the whole process to have an implant. Thousands of dollars later and 6 months after the screw was placed , he was asked to come in to have the crown impression done - last step before the crown is placed and treatment is done. He saw Dr Cheung ( he had never seen this dentist before) who told him that he could not do a crown impression as his " teeth would fall out" . He determined this by his dental X-rays done previously and did not physically examine him. The only thing that this DDS offered was that my husband needed extensive periodontal treatment. Although no one else mentioned this, and continued to treat my husband and take money for the implant. Now seriously, if that was the case why tell him now? Why not cancel his appointment? Nothing has changed and this office scheduled this appointment In November. Additionally, their office manager Mark, asked for additional money to do the crown and impression, which we thought had been included with the thousands that we had paid ( I even called billing in February to make sure we were paid off) and we questioned. Interestingly, Dr Cheung refused to treat my husband shortly thereafter. To add insult to injury they sent us a bill for the office visit! I have been a clinician for many years and this is one of the more shady and unprofessional offices I have encountered. read more

I couldn't just go in and get my teeth cleaned and use my insurance for cleaning. They had to take x-rays, though I said I was at a high risk for radiation, and I just had x-rays taken at my regular dentist. I knew they were going to say I needed some deep cleaning. They didn't even detect my THREE CAVITIES that I just had filled at another dentist. They quoted me a price for deep cleaning, and it said on the back of the estimate that I could be libel for a lot of money IF my insurance company refuses to pay. He performed an emergency oral surgery, removing an implant that had failed and miraculously was able to remove a screw from another implant that had broke. I got lured in the office with their $39 special for new customers. The practice uses state of the art technology and I like how you can do the patient form on line and appointment reminders are done via email. After getting my Xrays done, I was told by Dr Kim that I had to re-treat a root canal because I had an infection. I don't have dental insurance and the cost was much more than I can afford right now (about 2700 dollars, with the discount you get after signing up for a dental plan ("My smile dental plan" $96 a year for an individual). An office staff (probably the "closer" and/or the one responsible for the "hard sale") immediately scheduled me for the procedures (root canal "retreatment" and crown). Boy, she scheduled that appointment so fast, my head spun ... After going home, I realized that I had other options and no money anyway for the work. I cancelled my appointments, which they did very graciously. I had to come back a week later for my cleaning and a filling for a cavity which showed up on my X-rays. Besides the fact that Dr Kim numbed me and gave me a shot on the WRONG SIDE OF THE MOUTH (he realized his mistake and had to do it all over on the correct side) the cleaning and filling went very well . Dr Kim and his assistant were very nice and Dr Kim was gentle and had great bedside manners. The total cost for my filling was $151 which seems average. If you know how to handle "hard sales" and have time to wait and do some research, I think that this dental practice is well worth a try. Ideally you have a great dental insurance and don't have to worry about the "steep" prices. I will be moving to the area soon and I will give Desert Gateway Dental Group another try. The receptionist is particularly helpful and pleasant, the dental assistant and Dr Kim very nice. Dr Kim did not try to "sale" me anything and for that I am grateful. As for the root canal re-treat, Dr Kim informed me that we could wait until my next visit and see if it got any worse. I will do so and in the meantime I got a copy of my Xrays and will pay a visit to my friend's highly recommended dentist south of the border in LOS ALGODONES, Mexico. Folks like me who don't have dental insurance have no other alternatives and I am happy we are only two and a half hours away. Whatever you do, don't get pressured into anything (unless you are in excruciating pain or/and money is no object), take your time and do due diligence by getting a second opinion. read more

This office is so wonderful. I was greeted on the phone by Jennifer and she set my appointment up very smoothly. Once I got to the office I was called back quickly and got my X-rays done pretty quickly. Then i was seen by Dr. Tran who is very nice and friendly and he will do whatever he can to help you. I was very nervous at first but once he let his assistants know how nervous I was, they comforted me with a blanket and offered me water. They also let me watch a movie while I was getting my treatment done, which I thought was nice. My overall experience at the office was awesome. OK, I broke a tooth and needed a dentist pronto. Desert Gateway Dental Group (DGDG) is really close to home, so I gave them a call. Their special was only $39 for initial consultation and X-rays, and I liked that. They asked for my email address and said that they would send me an email with a link to their site where I could fill in my medical history, insurance info, and all that stuff so I wouldn't have to show up a half-hour ahead of my appointment time to do the paperwork and I thought, "cool"! When I got there I found that they provide a computer terminal so people who don't have email or a computer (is that possible in this day and age?) can enter their info. Their office is pretty much "paperless" except for out-of-house things. The dental assistant was very understanding of my problem and my pain and was careful not to hurt me too much while she shot the X-rays. There is a computer monitor right there by the examination chair and they brought up the X-rays right there for me to see and the dentist explained what they all meant. Because the cost of my treatment far exceeded the credit limit on my card, I told the finance lady and she contacted the credit card company to get an increased credit limit. They even bring up the billing information on the same screen and you can sign for the charges on a little touch-pad while you're reclining right there in the chair, too. They got some good computer network going there, that's for sure. I stopped in again yesterday to see what they can do for the pain until the oral surgeon can do the extractions and have the bridge ready, the dentist checked me over, said there was a bit of infection and had me take an antibiotic. No charge for this visit. I had gone to another dentist a month ago, they said I needed $9,000 worth of work done and since I'm not quite that rich I didn't go back. At least DGDG is doing what needs to be done and not picking my pocket. And that's a Good Thing. read more

Do NOT become a patient at this dental facility. During my first visit six months ago, it took them two hours for x-rays and a dental exam (and I only wanted to get my teeth cleaned). After the two hours, I stated that I needed to re-schedule for my dental cleaning. Two weeks later, I finally got my teeth cleaned. However, the odd part of this dental cleaning is that it was performed by my dentist, Dr. Michael Gardner. The good news is that he was pleasant and engaging regarding the current condition of my teeth. Fast forward to today (03-31-2021): I was scheduled for a 6-month dental cleaning. Upon arrival, I was escorted into the x-ray room. I stated that I had x-rays six months ago and that my dental insurance only covered x-rays every twelve months. The technician basically blew me off, and stated that x-rays for this office were performed every six months. When Dr. Gardner examined my teeth and examined my history and x-rays (from six months ago and today), he stated that my teeth looked good. However, he stated that I needed a "deep dental cleaning". I stated that I only needed a "regular" dental cleaning. He REFUSED to perform a regular dental cleaning, and he insisted on a "deep dental cleaning". He also stated that I had the option to go somewhere else for my "regular" dental cleaning, but he would only perform a "deep dental cleaning". At this juncture, I left the office and did not schedule a future visit. I DO NOT recommend the Desert Gateway Dental Group to anyone. They are pushing patients to have procedures that are not necessary. read more
