This Office only cares about upselling "deep cleans" that are not necessary. They hide these costs then bring the dentist in the office to sign something with hidden costs. To charge an additional $500 for a cleaning that takes an extra 5 minutes is crazy. Wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. My current office said my hygiene is perfect and my teeth are looking great (which they are) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR BILL. I went to Palm Desert Modern Dentistry for an emergency tooth extraction, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I have significant dental anxiety, and after reading positive reviews, I felt somewhat reassured going in. However, my experience reflected many of the negative reviews instead. I was initially told they could help me, but I ended up being bounced between multiple locations, which added unnecessary stress during an already urgent situation. To make matters worse, I was charged for a tooth cleaning that I never received. When I called to schedule a follow-up appointment, I was informed that I had been seen at the La Quinta location for this cleaning--which never happened. Instead of working with me to resolve the billing issue, the staff member I spoke with became argumentative. I made it clear I was simply trying to understand the charges, not argue. When I asked to speak with someone else, I was placed on hold for 15 minutes and no one ever returned to the call. The extraction itself was equally troubling. I had been told by a prior dentist that accommodations like laughing gas would be provided to help manage my anxiety, but nothing was offered. The bedside manner was very poor--when I became emotional due to the stress and the rough nature of the procedure, the doctor appeared irritated and asked if he should just stop altogether. This experience lacked both professionalism and compassion. I would not recommend this office to anyone, especially those with dental anxiety, and I will not be returning. read more

This felt like a car dealership trying to upsell undercoating. New to the area and needed a new dentist. Scheduled over a month ago to get my teeth cleaned and standard exam. Arrive to find out I "may" not get my teeth cleaned but there was a chance. Not a great start. Tell someone this in advance and let them decide. I met 4 people and never met the dentist. No wonder they upsell everything they can to pay for staff that they don't need. I wouldn't be surprised if they were paid on commission. They spent a lot of time trying to scare me into getting work done that is unneeded. I was at my previous dentist for 10 years and there were never any issues other than needing regular cleanings. I have had my teeth cleaned regularly every 6 months for as long as I can remember. This facility was trying to get me to come in every 3 months for checkups. They wanted me to meet the on staff periodontist and schedule regular visits for that as well. If a salesperson has ever made you feel disgusted then you know what I mean. They were more concerned with my wallet posing as concern for my dental health. I left the appointment before the Office Manager could go through the costs of everything they recommended. Amazing care! I use to be petrified of the dentist ever since I was little, so going to a dentist is a big deal to me. I am so excited I picked Palm Desert Modern Dentistry because they are truly amazing from start to finish. Today I saw Dr. Justin Smith, and he was very compassionate and personable making my visit a breeze. I also saw Melina, my hygienist, and she was able to add me same day to do a deep cleaning! She was very thorough and explained everything she was doing and gave me great recommendations to keep up with my dental hygiene. The check in process is easy and the receptionists from check in and out was smooth as well. My husband had an appointment here also for a root canal and a crown, and he was thoroughly impressed... he also saw Dr. Justin Smith too and he said his experience was so smooth, seamless, and painless. I went in as a new patient, did the examination and was told my gums were pre-periodontal potential risk, the gums have been the same risk for the past 20 years. They recommended a laser cleaning, which I refused and asked for a regular cleaning. They would not clean my teeth unless I did a deep clean laser cleaning, which was $500+ with insurance or $1000+ without. Long story short; I spent two hours, paid my deductible and had to leave with no teeth cleaning. After reading all of the mostly great reviews I decided to give them a try. The practice has a revolving door type of feel but I started with X-rays and a cleaning. The hygienist was great and commented on how clean my teeth were and was surprised that I used an old fashioned manual toothbrush. I had 2 crowns done and molds and more scans were done. When I went to have them put in the color was way off. Not a problem, they were re-done. When I went back they were longer than my natural ones were but I was ok with that since my natural ones were a bit small. However, the fit was too tight. I loved with it for a few months but realized they had to be adjusted. I coordinated that with my next cleaning. The hygienist commented that several of my gum margins had actually decreased and I was happy! They ranged from a 2 to 4. I asked how high the numbers go and was told they'd seen 18. Imagine my shock when the office told me that my cleaning was not going to be $59 but $288! Evidently I was now considered a periodontal patient! WTH? I told them no, I'm paying for the regular cleaning. I will be looking for a new practice needless to say. As the previous commenters unhappy with them stated,they work hard to upcharge. I'm a US Army veteran, and in my Army days we were taught a word for a situation where everything goes wrong. That word was "cluster___." I'm sure you can fill in the blank. It was the worst dental experience I had since suffering at the hands of third-world dentists in West Africa as a kid (my father was an American diplomat). I moved to Palm Desert in August 2023 and became a new patient at Palm Desert Modern Dentist on January 29, 2024, a decision I came to greatly regret. I will spare my dentist the embarrassment of being directly named, because it's moot - the entire practice has systemic issues. I should have taken it as a clue that this dentist has been there a year but his name isn't on the front door. From that date through April 3, 2024, what was SUPPOSED to have been a single visit to replace one damaged crown turned into five visits and the alleged need to replace THREE crowns at first, then another two crowns. Problem is, one of those three initial crowns broke off (just eating routine food, nothing chewy) very shortly after they were installed - taking out a piece of the tooth underneath it, requiring surgery to remove that tooth, which was so embedded that it snapped off when the doctor was trying to pull it off and he had to resort to drilling the rest out - and much longer recovery and more pain for my gums. That tooth damage then required that I either go for an expensive and more time-consuming implant or use a bridge - which then meant two MORE crowns on which to mount the bridge. Almost humorously, the doc said they'd wave the charge for the bridge I wouldn't have needed if not for the above - but not the new crowns on which to mount the bridge. They also waved some of the dentist's time but guess what folks? My time is billable, I'm an active crisis management PR consultant, and forcing me to make five visits versus one cost ME money in lost billing and bizdev time. However, the damage to the gum meant my mouth couldn't be immediately scanned accurately to get a bridge made, so they put temp caps on those teeth. When I went back a week later for the scan, one of those caps had been glued on so tight the doc had to drill it off! So we did the scan, replacement caps put on teeth awaiting new bridge - and one of the new caps fell off while I was eating oatmeal - oatmeal! - two days later. Complicating matters was the apparent fact that the messaging function of the practice's web portal was not actually relaying messages to the doctor, resulting in my never getting a response to seven different messages and having to call the office to get responses instead. They finally admitted the system was broken after I complained loudly, with the doctor and office manager pointing fingers at each other instead of asking the question, "How could this have gone on for at least five weeks without us knowing?" I am in the process of switching to another dentist, who I will ask to carefully review everything that's been done, whether it was actually necessary, etc. If it was possible to give this practice a negative number of stars, I would. read more

Dr DeWenter found answers for me on a troublesome root canal from years ago with his high tech CT on a root canal that was never done right by another Endodontist. He recommended a procedure that could resolve it & further exploration with the in office Endodontist. I look forward to his assessment. Fairly new and clean office with the exception of the sink in the hallway across from the treatment lanes. Not a big fan of the lack of privacy (HIPPA) when taking images and Xrays in a room without a door. Everyone walking down the hall peers in as they're passing by. I could also hear everything that was going on at the check-out and front desk. Regarding my cleaning..it was different than any that I have ever had and in my opinion there is room to improve their service. Although there was probably very little the dentist did not use his scraping instrument to pass along and between my teeth to make sure he removed any residual tartar the ultrasonic instrument (that was uncomfortably set on blast your gums mode) didn't remove. He also did not floss my teeth afterwards to get out any residual grit from the polishing compound or offer a lil cup of water or mouthwash to rinse afterwards. Was I supposed to receive a goody bag with a new toothbrush etc? To avoid any surprises or unpleasant billing conversations I'd suggest new patients ask when booking an appointment if the dentist you've select is an "in network provider?" Don't assume or expect the office staff to tell you if they are. read more

I suddenly had horrible pain on the upper left side of my face. Back molar couldn't even be touched, on a Friday night of course. I called Modern Dentistry 1st thing Monday AM and was amazed they could see me the same day. I was waiting to be given pain meds and be told I had to Schedule another appt. to fix the issue, but Dr DeWenter was able to do it immediately. He also did the dental graft so I can get an implant at a later date and antibiotics for the infection that had developed. He was extremely skilled and professional. I will continue to see him as my new dentist. (My last dentist couldn't see me for 3 weeks to remount the crown on this same tooth, and they then mounted it incorrectly per Dr. DeWenter, which led to this emergency. That ended up eventually snapping a root on the tooth) PD Modern Dentistry means it when they advertise they take emergencies. Office is nice and clean. Entire staff is kind and helpful. Dr. took all the time I needed to answer questions and show me what had happened to the tooth and surrounding area on my x-rays. read more

I was Reading the reviews... sounded great!!! But was I WRONG!! I will never come here again and I will definitely tell people not to come here!! After 10years of not going to the dentist, I finally got the courage and finally got insurance to make myself better! I was scheduled to have surgery to remove my molars... Doctor(Andrei Marechek) was the oral surgeon. 100% unprofessional guy!! You can tell he didn't want be there (probably wanted to go to lunch or something) They couldn't do the surgery because I had High Blood pressure... (totally understand) but why in the hell.... Would you go into the waiting room and talk to the person that was going to drive me home after the surgery and say, He's wasting my time!!! Why would you say that?!? Unprofessional!!! And 1 of the 2 pills they were giving me causes High Pressure... after they didn't do the surgery I went to urgent care and they told me they probably shouldn't of gave me that knowing I had a high pressure!!! Walked in without an appointment with a broken tooth. Took me in a hour later, checked carefully and heard recommendation. Two hours later walked out with a tooth restored with a crown. Modern equipment and crown made in house. Lovely not to have a two week and deal with a temporary cap. More importantly everyone was helpful and went out of their way to help me. Dr. DeWenter is caring, very patient, concerned with the comfort of his patient. I had no pain and left the office with nothing but good feelings and happy with the knowledge that I had found a new dentist for the future. To start off I'm really scared of the dentist. Bad experiences but who hasn't had them. I came in with pain in one of my teeth that I had been pushing off for a while ended up needing an extraction and it couldn't of gone any smoother. However, as I stepped into Palm Desert Modern Dentistry, my nerves were quickly tended to by the hospitality of the front manager, Karina, who had immediately asked me how my day was going and brought me a cup of cold water because of the summer heat. My wonderful experience did not stop there. I was quickly seen by Dr. Tran, who was able to address all of my dental concerns and needs. I had found Dr. Tran via independent research online and saw that he had another clinic, called Indio Modern Dentistry. His reviews were amazing and many other patients had great experiences with him. My experience with Dr Tran was no different at this new clinic as he provided CAREFUL and QUALITY dental help.
