This restaurant may have the best Mexican food in the Winder area. The atmosphere is open and bright where cleanliness permeates the entire place. (I know it's unusual to include cleanliness within the scope of Mexican restaurant atmosphere but folks this place is clean.) Plenty of free parking at the door. We arrived about six thirty on a Saturday evening and although they were somewhat busy we were seated quickly. A basket of warm chips quickly arrived at the table and I didn't dip many after ordering before our orders arrived. The refried beans and rice that accompanied my asada were the best I eaten outside of southwestern states. This food was flavorful and hot. The tacos were full of wonderful beef. My wife didn't enjoy her sandwich as much as I enjoyed the Mexican fare but I think she was expecting something different. She agreed this is the place for Mexican food in Winder after a few samples from my plate. By the way the draft beer was very cold and the lime on the glass was fresh rather than the slices of lime which sit out all day then are served to patrons at some places. We dined that night by a chance drive by on the way home but our next visit will be soon and on purpose. I only hope success doesn't spoil this restaurant and cause it to lower its high standards of quality, service and value. Staff are friendly and know the meaning of true hospitality in an industry that places demands upon them. (The men's restroom was spotless.) Next time I will try the cupcakes I spotted behind the glass of the dessert case as we walked to the door. read more

I have been wanting to go here for a while now and finally managed to go last night. I was excited to come because of the beautiful and delicious looking photos on here. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I got the carnitas bowl. The meat seemed cooked just enough but not cooked to my personal preference.Also somehow completely not seasoned or flavorful. The whole thing was kinda blah. I didn't get close to finishing it because I was so underwhelmed. I also got a margarita. Unfortunately even that wasn't what I would have liked either. The margarita was more sugary flavoring then anything else which is again not my preference. I may come back in the future to give it another go but it's not very likely at this point. read more

We waited a few weeks to try the newbie in town for Mexican food We went in on a weekday so it was not crowded. The salsa and chips were great. The cheese dip was cold and had to be sent back to be microwaved. The tamale and burrito were bland. I do not want hot spicy but some spicy would be nice. The rice and beans were lukewarm and also with no taste. The service was mediocre. Our drinks were not refilled and we were not checked on past the cheese dip. My wife and I love coming here even though it is a drive. I think the Alhambre platter is my dream dish - melted cheese, onions, bacon, steak... WHat more could someone ask for. The other meals are always good as well. The Margherita's are great and the staff is friendly. read more

Friday night we were too busy to hit our usual out of town spots, so we came here. I ordered the Alambre which sounded very good. Sounded. What I got was charred, burned actually, burned to the point everything on my skillet tore apart when trying to unstick it from the skillet. If I still had a fish tank I'd have had enough charcoal to refresh the filter for months. Still, I'm giving out 2 stars because my husband enjoyed his dinner. It makes me wonder though, who goes into a town the size of tiny Winder, looks at the all the existing Mexican restaurants (a dozen? Try their carnitas bowl with "mixed greens" SOOOO yummy! We come here all the time, but recently they changed their hours...so call ahead to be sure they're open. The rooftop is up 2 flights of stairs and has fun holiday lights and an outdoor bar. Their dranks are strong and their food never misses. read more

We are new to the Winder area and drove by this restaurant Sunday afternoon, My husband and I ordered a Texan fajita to share and I ordered a corn with cheese (been craving it for months) and everything tasted good. The place was comfortable and pleasant, the waitress was nice although she needed a little training (we noticed she was new) the place was empty but she took hours to check on us when we needed something, loved the sweet tea (big fan and sweet-tea tester over here) and this one was the good ones. I drive past this place everyday for work and I finally set out to have dinner and drinks with a friend one night. We sat on the rooftop. We were the only people sitting up there, it's a very cute area well shaded by the time we went. Our waitress was very sweet and fast with bringing chips & salsa, along with taking drink orders. My friend and I both ordered margaritas, they were okay but extremely sugary, I couldn't finish mine. I doubt the pour for tequila was even close to what it should have been. We also kept our food order simple tacos Al pastor and barbacoa. The Al pastor tacos were delicious but the the barbacoa was insanely dry and add that with a dry tortilla I could have choked to death from all the dryness. I had to drown the taco in hot sauce to finish it. My son ordered chicken fingers and fries, another disappointed plate. He didn't even get chicken fingers they were fish sticks... the fries bland and season less. I had high hopes for this place but I was let down. I can't say I won't come back to another attempt but it's not something I'm eager about. read more

On arriving, we requested to be seated on the roof and we're told certainly. The young lady server started off okay with the 5 beverages and food order. Subsequent requests for beverage refills and additional sauces for the bowls took a long time and wrong sauces were brought twice, refill still hadn't come. One of our group went back down into the restaurant twice to finally check and see you what was going on and there was basically nothing going on to fulfill these needs. When check was brought for us to pay server told us that because we were on the roof automatically 18% gratuity was added to the bill. We normally pay 20 to 22% gratuity, what we weren't told before we went up to the roof was that the service was being provided for us without our say so or agreement. So I'm wondering, if the poor service had anything to do with the automatic gratuity? Would like to think not. Will not have this server help us again probably nor will we request to sit on the roof. We love the food and have enjoyed it previously, but if someone cannot be attentive and correct and fulfilling the needs of the guest, who are not demanding, we'll make sure we are not seated at her table. Wouldn't surprise me if she hadn't been trained properly. read more

Also I ordered my meal they were out of the cheese that was supposed to come with, when I told my server he took The sandwich to the kitchen and then Brought it back now cold just to tell me that they didn't have anymore cheese. So not only did my sandwich not have all the components but I had to eats a BLT with a fried egg COLD. Really bad service, never take food from the table and bring it back unfinished and cold. Fire a new one or something. It doesn't seem right to take food away to a table and bring it back like that. read more

Food was good and upstairs atmosphere was really fun! If your doing margs - go for on the rocks and not the frozen. The main reason I give this a 4 star is we had slow service. I understand there is a staffing shortage but this wasn't the issue. We over heard the waitress in our area say she didn't want to serve our group. Everything served was not as depicted on the menu, key ingredients lacking, prices were even greater than the menu stated. Only two people working, the hostess and the waitress. Around here, Mexican restaurants fall into one of two categories: dilapidated holes-in-the wall with great food, or really nice places with mediocre food. This is the really nice place with the mediocre food. The place is nice, the service is good, the atmosphere is perfect, but this is Mexican food for people who think that mayonnaise is too spicy. Given the local demographics, that may be spot on, seeing as how crowded the place is. But, I can get much better food for less money at one of the hole-in-the-wall joints, so I'll probably skip this place next time. read more
