This used to be my favorite place to stop by for a cold beer and some food. Now since COVID19 its definitely different. First the lady was rude and NOT wearing a mask. So she couldn't understand me when I was placing my order. I'm sorry, but I follow the rules and CDC I will wear my mask until told not too. So I wont be coming back until everything is back to normal.

The 395 can take you to some pretty amazing places. Mammoth, Lone Pine, Bishop. However, do yourself a favor and travel off the main road to Randsburg. A living ghost town. I was lucky enough to stop here on my way to lunch. The street was loaded with quads, side by sides and other off road vehicles. The Randsburg General Store has great food and an incredible history. Built in 1904 it's one of the oldest working soda fountains you can come across. I got myself a burger, grilled old school out back and a bag of chips (Don't ask for fries here). And I got a cherry soda, made with soda water and real cherry syrup. The food was amazing and the service was great. Do yourself a favor and stop by here if you're traveling up the 395. You won't be sorry. I'm glad I did.

you'd think it'd be a cheap place by the way it looks but the menus prices are insane,

i got yelp just to post this review. i really think they're taking advantage of the pricing because there's not many places to eat out here but you'd assume this place is cheap by the way it looks considering you're sitting in a general store with only 3 tables. (next to cleaning supplies) but the menu is pricey for the very poor food choices an $8 plain hot dog... at least throw some grilled onions on there?? and a $12 frozen patty burger... PLUS the fact that you're eating a small burger with no fries? invest the money into a fryer if you're going to be charging that much. anyway the service wasn't bad but the menu...

Love supporting local businesses! The couple that owns the place are really sweet, I love how the locals stop in during the morning. We ran out of eggs and stopped in to grab some, luckily there were two packs left. I checked the date and the pack of eggs in my hands were over a month old. We were bummed but decided to try out some items on their menu. We ended up getting the egg mcminer and French toast, both around $5 each. They were soo good! The staff was very friendly and helpful! We ended up playing checkers while we waited for our breakfast to cook. I could tell the food was homemade and it was worth the wait! If you forget to pack something, chances are the general store will have just what you're looking for. Can't wait to get a scoop of thriftys next time I come back to town!

Location - In the desert in the middle of nowhere. Parking - Parking is easy if no events going on that week. Venue - Very old historic feel and gives you a feel for the old school style stores. Service - Employees here are very slow but nice. Prices - Very reasonable prices on the lower end in my opinion. Chill little place to grab some ice cream and a drink. Worth checking out.

Great place, friendly owners. We recommend the burger with a fountain drink. The macaroni salad is excellent!

While I was planning my road trip up the 395 North, Randsburg General Store was listed as a place to stop. So on our way back home on the 395, we stopped in and it was definitely worth it! Location: right near Johannesburg, both Randsburg and Johannesburg are considered ghost towns. Both are off the 395 in Kern County We ordered: - Cherry Bomb float x2 - Root Beer float I think we got the regular size and it was $3/each. They were the best floats we have ever had! I think a sign read "Home of the 100 year old soda fountain". They make their sodas the old fashion way with phosphate. A very cool experience and definitely worth the pit stop. We didn't order food here, so the review is based off the soda fountain!

In October on my way over to Lone Pine, I came across Randsburg and read the reviews on Yelp re the General Store. I was over the moon at this great find! Based on the recommendation of the cashier, I ordered the pulled barbeque pork sandwich which she said the chef spent all night slow cooking. It had the right amount of seasoning and was succulent without being dry. I also had the homemade potato salad - perfect! I had a Shirley Temple on the rocks from the soda fountain. Everyone in the store from the cashier, counter help, chef/owner, waiter were so friendly and welcoming -- I didn't want to leave but I know I'll be back!

This place is closed. It used to be bustling with good burgers and shakes. I don't know if it will re-open. FYI

I have been going to Kohnen's for decades. I am often in the Bakersfield and Tehachapi areas for…read morework, and we always stop in for a great meal when passing through on road trips. Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.
