Unique experience and an amazing burger! We had no idea what to expect when we pulled until this almost ghost town. Locals were sitting outside at the bar and at picnic tables near the outdoor grill where the owner was cooking up amazing burgers made from fresh ground chuck that he said he goes to a local butcher for. The burgers patties are formed upon ordering and cooked fresh with grilled onions, melty cheese on a fresh brioche bun. The burgers were piping hot and so delicious. This used to be my favorite place to stop by for a cold beer and some food. Now since COVID19 its definitely different. First the lady was rude and NOT wearing a mask. So she couldn't understand me when I was placing my order. I'm sorry, but I follow the rules and CDC I will wear my mask until told not too. The 395 can take you to some pretty amazing places. Mammoth, Lone Pine, Bishop. However, do yourself a favor and travel off the main road to Randsburg. A living ghost town. I was lucky enough to stop here on my way to lunch. The street was loaded with quads, side by sides and other off road vehicles. The Randsburg General Store has great food and an incredible history. Built in 1904 it's one of the oldest working soda fountains you can come across. I got myself a burger, grilled old school out back and a bag of chips (Don't ask for fries here). And I got a cherry soda, made with soda water and real cherry syrup. The food was amazing and the service was great. Do yourself a favor and stop by here if you're traveling up the 395. We have passed this town many times in the past without stopping. We stopped today and the only store open in this time capsule, was the general store. So glad we stopped. We had their amazing homemade root beer floats and their mint chocolate chip shake. Carol and Brad were kind and extreme knowledgeable about the town. it does not get much better than this little town. We have been coming here for some time now. I have never come here in a car only in ATV but that makes it that much better. Coming into town they are people waving and cheering and just good old laughter. The town has that old town vibe. There are a lot of people in dirtbike gear getting food and ice cream. They are awesome with allergies and there are no nuts in the shop. Want to have a souvenir they have clothing and stickers for sale. There are real bathrooms as well as a lot of history. The fire department is incredible we have seen them first had to get a call and be there super fast. There is no hospital near so airlifting is a normal thing and they are on it. Randsburg is a place that has a lot of fun memories for me and my family and friends. You should check it out. read more

Im giving this place 3 stars here's why. First i will say that the food was good. It wasnt cheap for what it was though. I had ordered the bratwurst or it was some german sounding name for a hot dog. Anyway i thought it was going to be like a typical german sausage. What i got was a slightly bigger than normal oscar Meyer & or bar s type product & it cost 8 dollars. So that was a let down. The second and probably the most wtf thing was a mangy cat comes walking out of the kitchen area. This thing looks fucked up. And it had just woken up meaning this thing sleeps back there. Love supporting local businesses! The couple that owns the place are really sweet, I love how the locals stop in during the morning. We ran out of eggs and stopped in to grab some, luckily there were two packs left. I checked the date and the pack of eggs in my hands were over a month old. We were bummed but decided to try out some items on their menu. We ended up getting the egg mcminer and French toast, both around $5 each. They were soo good! The staff was very friendly and helpful! We ended up playing checkers while we waited for our breakfast to cook. I could tell the food was homemade and it was worth the wait! If you forget to pack something, chances are the general store will have just what you're looking for. Can't wait to get a scoop of thriftys next time I come back to town! read more

Not a single mask in sight! I was the only person in the entire town who wore a mask! (Even got laughed at by a random lady for it) It's really not that hard to wear one. I have a baby at home so it just felt so selfish. The staff didn't wear masks, people were not social distancing, the tables inside were full. It felt absolutely disgusting. I went there a few days ago and if I get sick I'll know it was from this place. Location - In the desert in the middle of nowhere. Parking - Parking is easy if no events going on that week. Venue - Very old historic feel and gives you a feel for the old school style stores. We ate at the old Randsburg General Store a few years back. Brad and Carol have now moved to the other end of town and opened The Vault. Great food and very friendly service. Wife had a plain cheeseburger and I had a double chili cheeseburger. As Brad suggested, you have to try the spicy pickles. They definitely make the burger have a special taste. While I was planning my road trip up the 395 North, Randsburg General Store was listed as a place to stop. So on our way back home on the 395, we stopped in and it was definitely worth it! Location: right near Johannesburg, both Randsburg and Johannesburg are considered ghost towns. Both are off the 395 in Kern County We ordered: - Cherry Bomb float x2 - Root Beer float I think we got the regular size and it was $3/each. They were the best floats we have ever had! I think a sign read "Home of the 100 year old soda fountain". They make their sodas the old fashion way with phosphate. A very cool experience and definitely worth the pit stop. Awesome little small town general store! I used to come up to Randsburg with my dad as a kid, and then later with friends and family when I got older. I love this place!! It's really nice to see Randsburg alive and well and the general store providing for the dirt bikers and weekenders. If I could give it 100 stars, I would. All those folks who gave a bad review because of the masks really need to chill out, and remove their stupid reviews. We're talking about a VERY small town, country general store here!! And to leave bad reviews over a mask is stupid. How about the nice, warm friendly atmosphere, nice folks and good food? In October on my way over to Lone Pine, I came across Randsburg and read the reviews on Yelp re the General Store. I was over the moon at this great find! Based on the recommendation of the cashier, I ordered the pulled barbeque pork sandwich which she said the chef spent all night slow cooking. It had the right amount of seasoning and was succulent without being dry. I also had the homemade potato salad - perfect! I had a Shirley Temple on the rocks from the soda fountain. Everyone in the store from the cashier, counter help, chef/owner, waiter were so friendly and welcoming -- I didn't want to leave but I know I'll be back! read more

We really like what the new owners have done with the menu here. My family has been coming here for many years, and we're happy to see this place thrive. The burgers are bigger, and tastier than ever. I like the protein burger, basically no bun and a burger wrapped in lettuce. I may have to try other menu items, but I am a creature of habit. I will try to visit this place again on my next off-road trip. I am writing a review of a quick pop in to buy ice cream from the case. I do not know anything about the food, the service or drinks. We were off-roading at Red Mountain and drove in with our quads, dirt bikes and dunebuggy. It was the day before Easter and this place was CROWDED! A lot of staff running around trying their best from what I can see. A guy cleaning tables, taking out trash. A woman cooking up pizza....the gal at the registered looked frazzled but kept going...they were all hustling. They serve menu food, tables to eat inside. They have a store (General Store), a whole room full of souvenirs, shirts, etc., All kinds of little unique doo-dads to buy. I couldn't see much because it was wall to wall people. Keep in mind they are just about the only store open besides the bar...so yes, on a busy weekend they will be crowded. I have to admire anyone who is brave enough to open a store in a small out of the way ghost town. However, we just wanted to pay for our ice creams while walking around this quaint little ghost town. It took 40 minutes to get through the line. The reason: one line for EVERYONE! So my advice to the owner is to have a line for merchandise and a line for people ordering food. I know, I know you're small but I think in the long run it could save you money. People will be more willing to recommend your place and honestly, I could have walked out with 6 ice creams and no one would have noticed(I would NEVER but some might). I recommend this place to stop in and have a look-see. One day I will come for food and leave a more detailed review about food and service. Keep these little places alive!!!! read more

Great little family run restaurant. My family has been coming here for years. This weekend we were here 3 times. Brad and Carol the owners are very nice. They can get busy on weekends where's there are a lot of people in the desert but it's worth the wait. They said the breakfast menu may be changing soon so my pictures of that may not be accurate soon. Brad makes the chili from scratch and it's the best. It's a little spicy but that's how I like it. There's now a condiment bar so you can add your own toppings to the burgers, hot dogs or chili. The deserts are all made in front of you and huge. We had the banana split last night and it was large enough for 3-4 people (see picture). We will definitely be coming back. read more

On getting out of the truck in Randsburg, the other folks in our party declared, "To the general store!" They were all natives to the area and came to visit the "living ghost town" from time to time, deciding it would be fun to take their extended family visiting from the big, bad city. To speak only of the general store, it's definitely a step back in time going through the spring-loaded screen door - Wood floor that slope in one way or another, small metal-blade fans slowly turning, old-fashioned products line the shelves behind the individual tables, and counter looks like it was pulled from a turn of the century Five and Dime. The place was crowded with motocross enthusiasts clad head-to-foot in Day-Glo jumpsuits and armor. I wandered out of the larger room and into what looked like a smaller dining area. There I found a box of used books, most first editions. I pulled out a book that was entirely humorous line drawings of people trying to hang themselves. $5? Sold! read more

Ok, my honest review. Stick to the ice creams and sodas and fountain yummies. Pass on the food. In my opinion, if you serve good (not great) but good food, people will not mind spending $70 dollars. That being said, we all ordered burgers with potato salad. If the burgers had been cooked out back, as the local residents stated, why were there no seasonings on the burgers? Some salt and pepper would have gonna long way. Onion and garlic powder would have been amazing. However, don't know what kind of pickles they use but wow, those are good! The produce was very fresh and the buns are very soft. Watch out, they will fall apart on you. As for the potato salad, just a tad heavy on mustard. This is coming from someone who uses mustard on just about everything and anything. I love mustard but the potato salad was just a tiny bit too tart. Again, salt and pepper would have been fantastic. I just think if there are only two eating establishments in town, they could do so awesome in business if it was just kicked up a notch. The bikers would order more food and drinks, the tourists and visitors would order more food and drinks, and I'm almost certain the locals would as well. We will still be back but, most likely for the root beer floats unless I hear that the food has improved....I will be keeping my $70. Still love the town and the people. I just hope they read this and mull over my comments. Good food, will bring more business.... read more

Lovely folks I came across while I was here. They were all very sociable and eager to help. Breakfast and dessert are a good deal here imo, but burgers were kind of pricey. I got the Regular cheeseburger and that came short under $10 bucks. Wished I would've skipped and had a cup of noodle instead and saved for breakfast here the next day. But I do understand why costs have to be a bit more considering its location. We normally come out on the weekends while exploring the local trails. They get very busy so be prepared to wait a little sometimes. But we've always ben lucky and got in right away and found a place to sit. But seating is limited. Prices are reasonable, specially for the area and there are not many other options for 20+ miles in any direction. read more
