Came for coffee and donuts at Randys in our awesome Costa Mesa area. I live only 15 minutes from here. I get coffee and donuts maybe once a week. I had not yelped them in awhile. I stopped by Randy's Donuts this morning planning to pick up three dozen donuts for my CSR team at work. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. When I walked in, the employee behind the counter looked directly at me but did not greet me or acknowledge that I was there. I noticed he was working alone, so I waited patiently. However, even after about five minutes, I still had not been acknowledged. During that time, he continued taking orders from the drive-through and answering the phone, but never once addressed the customers standing inside the store. While I was waiting, a mother and her son came in after taking a selfie outside with the famous giant Randy's Donut sign. They were also never greeted or acknowledged. After waiting around 10 minutes without any acknowledgment as a paying customer--or even a simple "I'll be right with you"--I finally gave up and walked out. I had already wasted part of my morning and ended up leaving without the donuts because I needed to get to work. I was ready to spend around $80, but instead left with nothing due to the lack of basic customer service. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way, even if the employee was busy. Randy's Donuts is an iconic place, but the morning staff should understand that customer service matters, even when you're working alone. I pulled up in the parking lot today at 6:45 am and the counter person smiled at me through the glass door as I shut my car door! Greeting the guest with a smile and warm welcome before I even entered! Both the girls were "so sweet" when servicing me! Kudos for having team members who want to be there! Original Old fashion glazed 7/10 It is alright. I love the old fashioned glaze. It's usually my favorite donut. But I didn't care for it much here. Oreo 5/10 Not good. What is this? Arty was amazing! I called asking if they do can pink ribbon frosting donuts for my last day of chemo so I could hand out to the nurses. He wasn't sure he could do them and said he would have to ask district mgr. but he said they would have plenty of pink donuts if they couldn't. His authentic happiness for me completing chemo and enthusiasm for what I wanted to give the nurses just put the biggest smile on my face. I don't usually leave reviews, but I felt compelled to say something after what I witnessed early this morning around 6 a.m. I was in the drive-thru line nothing out of the ordinary, about four cars. Then suddenly, a white man looked to be in his late 40s got out of his car in a rage. He banged on my window and another car, yelling at us to "move the hell out of the way" so he could leave. I was frightened. His anger was unprovoked and disturbing. He ended up going inside the restaurant, and by the time I reached the drive-thru window, I could hear everything that's how loud he was. He went inside the store and first thing he did was scream at the top of his lungs at the staff calling them "retarded," "stupid," and "slow." The language he used was cruel and completely uncalled for. I also heard him threatening specifically the young woman working behind the counter. I heard a "I will find you" I honestly feared for her safety. No one should be treated like that especially not employees who are clearly doing their best while understaffed. The young cashier was visibly shaken, her hands trembling as she gave me back my card. She looked like she was on the verge of an anxiety attack. My heart broke for her. Randy's, please do better. Protect your staff. No one should have to endure that kind of abuse just for showing up to work. The service at this place is spectacular and they make you feel like family. They helped me out with a special birthday order for my daughter. I've rarely had one who was engaging. It often feels like either they're there just for the paycheck or they've been there since early morning making the doughnuts & are ready to leave. A simple 'welcome' or 'have a good day!' goes a long way. They're not rude...but they're not giving off vibes that they want to talk with you either.
