I finally convinced my bf to bring some donuts home and break our diets to end up pretty disappointed. According to yelp they're open 24 hours but hardly provided any options of donuts to choose from. I have more options at 7/11 then at this place. I wanted a chocolate sprinkle donut and my bf wanted a chocolate long john and neither was available. I ended up with a pink sprinkled donut (flavor was good but frosting was so thick it fell off at every bite- more than usual) & the hot chocolate tasted hardly like chocolate and more of a spoiled milk taste. I really wanted to like this place! I knew the lines would be long today and sevice would be wonky, but I chalk that up to this being a new location. Where they fell short for me was the flavor of the donuts. The chocolate raised was okay, but the honey wheat tasted a bit stale and the glazed old fashioned did not have much flavor. So my wife was down by Stonewood Mall with my daughter about 1 hour ago and they decided to stop by Randy's Donuts in Downey and surprise me with an Apple Fritter, my favorite donut. They get home and hand it over to me when low and behold, I take the first bite and it tastes like it's burned. After examining my fritter, I see black areas around it confirming my suspicion that it was burnt. I've had many many Apple Fritters in the past, and none that I've had have had this dark brown/black color to them. Now, I'm not an expert, or a baker by any means, but it doesn't take an expert to confirm that somethings been burnt. Either the staff at Randy's just didn't care and sold them burnt, or someone there isn't paying attention to what they're doing. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND DEFINATLY WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! My 1st impression of this new location is in 1-Word: Excellent! We arrived for the Grand Opening, and were left quite impressed, especially because: we were attended to very quickly (a 5 mt wait in-line), despite being caught in a long line!!! The staff behind-the-counter works so quickly and in a greatly coordinated manner that made this all possible: one person takes the orders, picks them out & hands it over to the register who charges, meanwhile another (if needed) is watching close-by to grab any last minute items. It's like your dealing with 1 nice unit. The inside of the shop is tiny, but very accommodating with AC, a few sit-in-tables/benches, a small coffee bar, nice wall mural decor of randy's/la times history, and a bathroom. Great place to stop-by, sit-in and enjoy chatting with friends/fam over a quick bite of a donut with/without a nice drink. And what makes for a bonus is: they are super Nice!!! I arrived with my dad, and we both received the Grand Opening special (a free glazed donut & iced coffee), since we were, "customers" without any doubt/hesitation. It may not all make sense, but, recalling an incident at the Randy's location in Inglewood, in which the employee denied my mom and I that same promo, and a manager had to be called-in, in comparison to this, says, A LOT! Excellent service! Both in & at the drive-thru (which is available; and although we didn't make use of it in this visit, we still observed how fast cars were coming-&-going) And last, but not least, the donuts. The donuts are the same fine-quality donuts that Randy's is known for. They had fresh batches ready for the donuts on display that had been sold away before. (And the fresh iced coffee was nice & refreshing--roasted perfectly & not over-filled with ice) Overall, we are very satisfied and look forward to coming back more to this new location (that's thankfully closer to home, too!) read more

i work nearby and picked up a box of assorted donuts on my way home one night. my kids and i are donut-nation, and Randy's didn't disappoint. chocolate cake donut had a firm texture and strong chocolate flavor. cinnamon roll crispy glazed outside and thick-n-fluffy inside. my absolute fav donut is apple fritter, and i get them everywhere i go as a kind of baseline test. Randy's fritter is excellent, though i have to say that I'd still put my local apple fritter up against anything else. (K&M donuts in Placentia, fyi) Randy's staff was super nice and we had a little fun wirh the donut ordering because I'd never been there the counter guy let me pick my fritter off the cooling racks behind him. if I'm in the area and craving a good donut, I'd definitely get Randy's again. read more

Tastes just like the OG... The donuts were super fresh... The Grand Opening was just that, a Grand Opening. This location is very new and has some growing pains that go with it. I'm sure the owners had an idea it would be popular but not this much. Things that need to be addressed: 1. The parking lot and drive thru grid lock. If you manage to get into the lot and park in a stall, great, but getting out will take some time especially if the line for the drive thru is out into Firestone Blvd. blocking traffic. 2. The donut quality. I went there twice already and tried some varieties. The blueberry iced cake donut was great as was the devil's food cake. The cruller donuts are pretty much like others I have had albeit these were a bit more greasy. The old fashioned buttermilk bar was fresh and well cooked but very tough to bite into. The red jelly donut, since the flavor was more like cherry flavored cough medicine. This was a let down. 3. Staff is friendly and hurried to try and keep up with the crowds. It's not their fault if they appear rude as they are trying to get used to the amount of crowds. I don't want to give any stars yet as this Randy's is too new to make a fair revue. I'll return at a later time to see if they worked out the minor issues. But yelp is making me put some stars. read more

Love this place, but there is so much to be gained from the drive thru. When you get to the drive thru, the first thing you're told to do is wait. Meanwhile, there is only one car at the window at all times. Once they are done with that car, then they take your order. I've gone at least 10 times through drive through to this location, and it never fails each time for them to take 5 min per car for just a few donuts on order. Meanwhile, the line accumulated before getting your order taken, and there is a huge line in drive thru. The employees aren't as friendly either. read more

In my opinion, the donuts were okay. I feel like they can improve the icing on certain donuts. The maple cake donut had a weird flavor to it. The orange iced cake donut was similar to a hostess orange cupcake. The chocolate raised ring and the chocolate long john were soft and fresh. The apple fritter was good and the cinnamon roll was good as well but it kind of lacked the cinnamon flavor. The glazed and blueberry cake donut were good. The blueberry cake donut reminded me of a blueberry muffin. The drive-thru line is pretty long but the staff are friendly. They should have a better way of handling drive-thru orders so the line could be quicker. For example, having someone outside taking orders or having a slip of paper with the donuts listed and having the customers circle the ones they want with their name on it. read more

But aside from having great donuts, they provide excellent customer service. They messed up our order today, but they more than made up for it and surprised my family and I with how quickly they took action and the fact that you can tell they cared made me want to write this review. I've never tried Randy's donuts before and when I saw this location opening, I had my chance! If course it being opening day the line for the drive thru was long and moved kinda slow. There were a couple of parking spots available in the lot but I had already committed to the drive thru. I also saw people parking on the residential street. The line inside seemed to move faster than the drive thru also. I got a mixed dozen which included classics, fancies, and premium donuts. The donuts were really good. I especially liked the roasted coconut. The M&M and apple fritter were also really good. I was driving by Randy's Donuts on a weekday morning, and decided to try it as I am not usually in Downey. After some circumspection, I decided to try the Apple Fritter, chocolate frosted, and churro donut. The chocolate frosted was pretty good, as so liked the fact that chocolate was a little bit darker. The churro donut was complicated to eat, as the cream on top was quite messy. The Apple Fritter was the best of the bunch, as it was moist, a little crunchy, and not too sweet. I never had Randy's donut but everyone from work always talkin about how great their donuts. Until today, i came across one for the first time and took a pit stop. Anyway, came home and found my dozen of donut to be exactly 11. I felt so bummed out without even tryin to eat one so my dad told me to leave them a message that their people mite want to check how many they have in the box before givin it out to customers. After writing them a message, Owner responded to me in no time and will send me a gc for the inconvenience. Imagine how fast and grateful they r towards their customers. I don't know what's happened to this place but Randy's was great when it first opened. As time has gone by it's gotten worse I went this morning for the first time in months. I was craving a ham and cheese croissant and a chocolate old fashioned donut. I was disappointed to say the least when I got home the croissant was was extremely hard around the edges not chewable and the ham was sticking out both ends and was completely burnt. I've never really had a good experience at this location. I was super excited when they came to Downey and couldn't wait to visit the location. I thought I would be a regular since I love donuts, but I've been nothing but disappointed very time. Given them several try's, hopping to change my mind, but unfortunately they have been consistent in letting me down. The coffee is not good, hot or cold. The doughnuts always have an oily after taste. And the service is a C / D ratting. To bad, so sad. read more

This last experience was the last straw for me. The employees at the Downey location severely lack common sense. You go to any donut shop and ask for a ham and cheese croissant and they'll heat it up for you. Not this location! They'll serve it to you iced cold unless you explicitly state it needs to be heated. If you order online, there's no option to ask for it heated so you have to write it under customer notes and 9 times out of 10 they flat out ignore it because somehow doing an additional 30 seconds of work by throwing it in the toaster is SO SO SO INCONVENIENT AND HARD apparently. Even the donuts are ice cold most of the time. So you mean to tell me it took 17 minutes for my order to be ready after ordering it just for it to be served half assed out of the fridge???? It's so depressing to see this location be so poor when a few years ago it thrived. Now I see why it's always empty. Zero care put into product or customer experience. read more
