Went to MIS for the NASCAR race this past weekend. My honey found this place on the map though i was hesitant at first about a bbq trailer in this area i never heard of before. It ended up being the highlight of race day. I got the Mac and Cheese on the side which was just okay. She got the corn bread which was great. We also got the iced tea and lemonade which were in essentially soup containers which was sweet; they definitely didn't skimp out on the meal. I left full and super satisfied. The original owners son was running the show with another lady. He came out and greeted us; make sure we were enjoying the meal and gave us the backstory on the restaurant/trailer. Randy's BBQ, US12, a ghost from a different time. The last time I was here, my dad was still alive. Today, I brought my own son, who is the same age I was the first time my dad took me here. Back then it was just the trailer. The prices have climbed, and our visits tapered off, but on a whim, we walked back into that memory. What a revelation. The sheer weight of the box, a promise of excess in a world of meager portions. I wish to hell I'd asked the price on those "smashboxes," but it's been a long, miserable while since I tasted anything so profoundly right. Being a life-long resident of the area, I've see Randy's BBQ for years. But this was our first time trying it though and OMG was it ever AMAZING!! We both had a sandwich basket (pork-me chicken-wife) with different sides (Mac/cheese and fried mushrooms-me and corn bread and beans-wife) and we each totally enjoyed it all!!! Total bill was around $35 and food was ready for us in under 10 min. After a 15 min drive home, the food was still warm and tasted so delicious!!! This will now become a regular stop for us!! My ONLY regret is I should've asked for extra bbq sauce on my sammy. read more

This place is the quintessential road side BBQ. A must to stop at and enjoy! Lots of parking, lots of seating and lots of food. It no wonder that every time you past by they're are lots of people. Randys is a great place for BBQ. The food seems freshly cooked that day. I had a smash box that let me try the pulled pork, some smoked wings and a side. The meats were delicious with a nice smokey BBQ flavor. The service was friendly. Highly recommend if you are passing through. read more

I had not tried the BBQ, or it had been years , had heard it was a good quality food, a friend bought two racks of ribs, cost 55 bucks but, I bought a BBQ sandwich for 8 bucks, it was a good sandwich, not dry, I took to work. Im glad we stopped! Little side of the road built out trailer. I guess i don't understand why the reviews arn't amazing for this place! I mean especially during covid! They have a fire pit out from to keep ya warm while u wait along with big red chairs (social distanced). The cornbread though.. to die for! If you love sweet cornbread this is the spot for you! The food was made to order so there definitely is a wait but we had no issues with that are food was hot and ready to eat in the truck! We just happened to be driving through and figured whyyyy not! This place is reliably awesome from the food to the people to the crazy festive venue. Right off M12 it's got the best pork and cornbread around. Definitely call to make sure they're open before you drive over. They can take huge orders (14 people!) and are allergy-friendly. I can vouch for literally everything on the menu. It's just super delicious. Sometimes I dream about Randy's, so yeah, that's about the highest rating I can give. Had their sampler plater which consisted of Two pork ribs, some brisket, pulled pork. The brisket was awesome, and the pulled pork I enjoyed. The pork ribs weren't the best I've ever had but they were decent. Loved the baked BBQ beans and the corn bread was out of this world! Service was great! read more

My husband and I are out-of-Towners but stopped by here and we were VERY impressed! The bbq sandwich was delicious and extremely generous portion of it. The best corn bread and pulled pork you'll ever have ! This place is to die for always fresh and fast enough if you're driving thru!

My wife and I were out for a drive, hunting for open houses, when we passed by Randy's BBQ on U.S. 12. Being Spring, they are open on the weekends while they wait for more stable weather, we had to turn around and take advantage of it while we had the shot. The parking is right out front, so easy in and easy out from U.S. 12 traffic. We both selected the Pulled Pork Sandwich, JUMBO sized - and potato salad. Our order was taken by the cutest 7 or 8 year old little girl who nailed it first time. My local Taco Bell team can't do that at 18. It didn't take long to get our Styrofoam boxes stuffed with goodies and we hoofed it back to the vehicle to eat. The Pulled pork was hot, saucy, and fully stuffed on the bun. Actually picking it up and getting it in my mouth was a challenge - some of the sauce left a BBQ goodness stain on my pant leg. It DID NOT TAKE LONG to SHOVE IT IN MY HEAD! While the potato salad is yummy, the star of the show will always be the meat. Over the years, I have had very nearly everything that that little diner has to offer. I have never been disappointed. Knowing the probability and chance says that I will find something I don't like, given enough contacts, I intend to keep hunting for something from Randy's that I don't like. This is simply the best BBQ in southern Michigan. We love Randy's and make it a point to make sure we spread the word.

We stopped in here last night during a motorcycle ride. We had barbecue brisket and barbecue chicken sandwiches, with potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans. And sweet tea of course! Everything was absolutely delicious. This is a fun stop to make on a road trip, or a bike ride, or simply to drive out to the Irish Hills for the food. It's worth it! read more

There are two different Randy's locations along Michigan Ave. in Irish Hills. One is a traditional roadside stand and the other is a pretty nice sit down and eat BBQ joint. The place looks good inside. There's vintage Blues Brothers and Marilyn Monroe figures and some cool ass signs and statues. Pigs and borderline creepy chef caricatures. But it all feels right. The prices are good for a good BBQ spot. We asked to sample a few different types of meat before we selected and they brought us pretty generous portions of each. We all pretty much ended up going with the BBQ pulled pork. It comes without sauce so you can add your own if you'd like, which we did. Sauce was excellent. Pork was excellent. I ordered a very reasonably priced combo plate so I also got to try the ribs, which weren't the best. Too much bone and not enough meat. We all agreed on our favorite side items. The mac and cheese was killer. Fresh baked and delicious. The mashed potatoes were pretty good too. Mixed on the fries but mostly because they were crinkle fries and we weren't all fans. The deviled eggs were pretty heavy on the onion. Not a hint of sweetness in them, no paprika. Baked beans were okay but very saucy, if that makes sense. Overall, the place is certainly worth a stop. Atmosphere is bad ass. Food is better than average. Prices are good. Service isn't the swiftest. Stick with the BBQ sandwiches and fries and you should be good. Pork was the best. Beef was good. Chicken was our least favorite. Didn't try the turkey. Soft drink prices, at almost $3 a pop, is ridiculous. BBQ sauce was excellent. read more

I just stopped here to eat a late lunch. We were super hungry, and the reviews looked good. We were kind of disappointed. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon, and waited around for a few minutes, but nobody showed up. We could hear people in the kitchen. Finally I called the restaurant, and a server came out to answer the phone. I discretely hung up. So, first impressions aside, we were still in the mood for some BBQ, so we each ordered the meat plate (9.95 choice of meat, 2sides, corn bread). I had brisket, Mac n cheese & baked beans. My husband had pulled pork, slaw & baked apples. Honestly, the BBQ was ok. I'm used to southern. BBQ, and this was not exactly that. The meat was dry but had decent flavor. The sauces were more thick, Kansas City style, and the corn bread was more like cake. I enjoyed my sides. My husband's meal was about the same. The pulled pork was the better of the two meats, but he didn't like either of his sides: apples were too sweet and the slaw just wasn't his favorite. Personally, I wouldn't eat here again. I read all the reviews of this place before we went and I was expecting to be bowled over. Nothing was what I expected, though. We ate outside at the roadside stand, so maybe things would be better if we ate inside. (I don't think it was open though). My brisket was dry (although it was tender). There wasn't enough sauce for any but the top layer of meat. The bun was stale and broke apart in my hands. I am giving this two stars only - one for the potato salad that was better than good, but not great. The other star is for the BBQ sauce, which was delicious. There just wasn't enough of it. I'm pretty sure we won't be back, even though we spend alot of time in the Irish Hills in the summer. read more

For years now, I've been stopping by Randy's Barbecue on my way to visit friends at the Irish Hills Antique Shop. I usually get the pulled pork sandwich. Being a foodie, I give this item an A+ rating...Excellent! From time to time, I have tried their barbecue ribs. First of all, it's irritating that the ribs are not always available. In fact, they're rarely available! When I have indulged in them, here is what I've ascertained--Sometimes they're great (A+)...Sometimes they're not (D-) It must be the quality of the meat...The ribs are either "meaty" or "fatty." If you stop by and are thinking ribs, I suggest that you ask for a sample before ordering. All in all, I love Randy's. I just wish the ribs were more consistent...I would say about 50% of the time, they are great!!! Because of their ribs, I'm giving them only a 2 star rating. read more

Yes I went to Randy's BBQ today and was very surprised to se teenagers running it I of course was instantly skeptical on the type of food I would receive the kids were laughing and singing and cursing like they were at home not running a business but I chose to eat here anyway because in the past the food was great so when I got my food this kid says to me our mac a cheese is a little runny I gave you extra when I opened the container the mac and cheese was like mac and soup the worst part was it had ran all over my pulled pork sandwich so I take it back and ask for beans instead they were bush bake beans nothing special at all and I also got the potato Salad it was also runny and not the same as I previously had in the past I'm very disappointed and won't be returning until they fix the problem KIDS CANT RUN A RESTAURANT they will ruin you randy read more

I always like to check out new whole in the wall BBQ spots and this one seemed to fit the bill. Prices were fairly comparable to Ann Arbor, which would be fine if the food was good. I asked directionally about the Mac n cheese-the woman went on about how great it was. It WASN'T! It was store bought frozen gfs Mac. Baked beans out of a can. She gave me a sample of the pork to try, it was completely unseasoned. Save your money! So not impressed!! read more
